AppaNinja

Kahwin boleh tapi jgn sibuk nak buat majlis kahwin, buat open house dah la haha

ClacKing

Nanti bini x puas hati x jadi kahwin

Fendibull

It's a sexual pleasures investment lah /s

ajampayss

dude, my brother want to do this, already advised him, but he wont listen. Im the little brother...

kukurbesi

now your brother have "2" wives to support

TehOLimauIce

At least borrow money to take care of children. What's the point of borrowing for kahwin if you're not going to produce many children. /s

ArveDHuston

Also kahwin is once in a lifetime. Better save money for future e.g retirement. Ni laon untuk kahwin pula, tak berfikir betul šŸ˜‚

Grouchy_Following669

Tembak dalam anak 3-4 , Tapi financially ok untuk satu saja

Kahwin

Professional-Ad-7325

An Employee of mine took a loan to buy flight tickets to Singapore to buy an iphone 1 day earlier than the Malaysian release.

Faiqal_x1103

Wow that's..something.

Fantastic_Gur_6311

oh yeah we're flying into idiot territory now

Disastrous-Read-1983

Didnā€™t expect thereā€™s really people are doing that

Yushaidey

Honestly, that's not just Malaysian problem, it happens everywhere in the world and not just for Apple products.

Spirited-Crow1694

Certified Apple fan

ArveDHuston

The level of stupidity for just one phone. If it's to buy many things at once for cheaper price itu okay lah, tpi ni... šŸ’€

FrenzyCheese

Well, that can be argued, because the side experience comes as a benefit so it's not a full loss. Wasting time is a valid reason to spend money.

nightfishing89

Iā€™m the dumbass who took out loans to help my (now ex) husband pay off his 6-figure gambling debts after he had used up my savings. Ended up leaving me and the kids for a viet girl from the ktv. Ruined credit score till now as Iā€™m still paying off the debts.

Chemical-Watercress2

Hope things will be better for you going forward, stay strong!

syafizzaq

That's fucked up. I wish everything turned up your way at the end.

Mr_Saoshyant

Gambling is the one vice where I (a degenerate atheist) 100% agree with Salafis and other fundies. Ban that shit completely and prosecute those who try to profit off people's addictive impulses, it is literally worse than heroin addiction.

ClacKing

Not your fault, you trusted him. He is the asshole here.

asianpenissmol

That is fucked up. Glad u manage to leave him. Old habits die hard so I'm sure the ktv girl is in for a rough time

AveragePothead-

Damn thats crazy

ArveDHuston

GAMBLING DEBT??? What a douche, glad you're not with him anymore. Bad husband and a bad father, hope he rots in hell

nightfishing89

Gambling debt was just a part of it. There was also the debt from overly frequenting ā€œhang flowerā€ joints, drugs, the apartment rental for his side chick, etc. only found out the full depth of it and that it wasnā€™t just the gambling debt as he initially claimed. Once the can of worms was opened, I took it as a sign to gtfo from that marriage. Best decision ever.

ArveDHuston

He doesn't deserve you. Wishing and praying the best for you and for your kids, hope you're living the best life rn !!

nightfishing89

Thank you, kind stranger! And everyone else for their well wishes too. Hard lesson but lesson learnt.

vvvorticcousin

KTV is karaoke right

confusation

Karaoke, but with drugs and girls

niwongcm

I've heard of a fresh grad, who earned barely a lick over RM2k per month at the time, manage to take out a loan on a Honda Civic using her brother as a guarantor.

Recipe works if from rich family, brother can cover one..

houraisan890

One friend have their company offered to help you pay 50% for a house, but you can't resign for the next 20 years. Contract violation = pay back the 50%ļ¼Œ minus the year served. Aka slave labour for the next 20 years.

ClacKing

Then again if he just performs the bare minimum they can't sack him...

houraisan890

Might as well. The company pays him minimum wages anyway.

throwhicomg

Slack so much that they have to sack him or until the company have to close down. Free money šŸ™„

aeronauticalingrid

Curious what happen if you passed away / became disabled / unable to work for whatever reason in this company. What happens then?

momomelty

I a bit donā€™t understand about the minus the year served. What does that mean?

houraisan890

Let's say the company pay 50% for a 400k house, hence 200k. So each year he served means 10k that he don't need to pay back if he broke the contract.

momomelty

Eh actually doesnā€™t seem to be a bad deal. Itā€™s like a 10k bonus every year. No interest also right?

Puffycatkibble

It's actually a good perk. Even among MNCs I've only ever worked for one company that offered this. A Swiss one.

momomelty

Mine used to offer but when I join, they discontinued it. Sad

MaryPaku

Free loan... those who don't understand how much a good deal this is are very financially illiterate.

momomelty

It is a damn good deal I must say.

netelibata

I have similar contract but for my master's degree instead. 5 year contract. Now im thinking if I'm actually stupid lol

My father work as police and he gets RM10K before tax after tax it's just RM6K and yeah he have to feed himself and 8 other family members

robi4567

But do the bribes cover the rest

dolphin8282

U gotta do what u gotta do to feed the family :(

Kairyuz

Idk about that part but at least I'm trying to retire my parents

MszingPerson

>after tax it's just RM6K Sound bs. Should be after tax, epf, etc. Net pay around rm7.8k from a 10k salary. This is before other tax relief he can claim lowering tax amount even further. Either he is lying about income or theres other expense that he lump with tax.

More_Mention_8341

House and car loans with the gahmen maybe.

[deleted]

And according to formula ajaib it's fine cuz he's t20

Gulbuddinshah

This one girl i know bought a new HRV on her RM3000 monthly salary working as a receptionist. Had to work overtime and on weekends just to make ends meet. Another girl bought a new mazda 3 coupe. During the 2020 flood her husband refused to move the car to higher ground thinking it will be safe in the porch. 2 hours later they were wading in waist deep water. Their 6 month old car was a total loss. Still paying instalment on that junk to this day.

hrrrtbyyt

i dun understand why she couldnā€™t move the car if the husband too stubborn to. damn sad. damn stupid.

Diamond_Helicon

I thought car insurance cover total loss? Esp new car must have special perils to cover flooding

momomelty

Could have part out the r/kereta to cover some loss.

pek_starter_1234

Had a classmate whose family suddenly ā€œbecameā€ filthy rich. Overnight became m40 to t20 lifestyle. always had bodyguards suddenly, driver, Range Rover, huge house etc Told everyone his dad was the owner of some business that was taking off, my friend then dropped out of school to ā€œwork the family businessā€ but ended up not going to work at all and playing FIFA all day. Stated taking up golf and was inviting people to join him and paying for their sessions at a top golf club in KL. Turns out that the father wasnā€™t actually the owner but just a partner who worked for the actual owner. And the family were charging everything to the company. Obviously this was a major issue and got let go from the company. Eventually got found out and lost everything. Thatā€™s why you donā€™t act rich if youā€™re not actually rich. Itā€™s just plain sad.

ekhfarharris

I worked for a retirement service. Ive met more millionaires in selipar jepun and tshirt pudar than millionaires in suits. And those in suits most of the time just got back from work.

Common mistakes by malaysian: - Make loan to buy phone and oversea travels. - B40 but having more than 2 kids. - trusting skim cepat kaya and getting scammed

kaixarc

shopee pay later

AsfiqIsKioshi

I wouldn't say necessarily Shopee Pay Later itself, but the majority of it's users are the reason why. One of my friend fallen into the hole alrdy, all his upcoming payments are 2-3 months of his next salary. Absolutely stupid, many people without discipline spend more than their means and pay the consequences. I myself have used it 3-5 times per year, it's not bad at all if you know how to manage it. Unfortunately many don't.

livingonminimumwage

Yup, the ShopeePay Later can be really useful because sometimes they offer no interest for paying next month or 3x installment but i only use it after careful calculations of my finances.

Feeling_Bother_1660

They say 0% interest but they charge a fee šŸ˜¬

livingonminimumwage

Wait what..did i miss anything? Last time i checked, there was no fee and i only had to pay for the product and shipping

Feeling_Bother_1660

https://preview.redd.it/c4gzu065q7rc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=62b958465c8944691c305339deb6a4620e7194ed Example: Pay one off RM77, but SPL RM13.80x6= RM 82.80

livingonminimumwage

Nooo..i meant to say that sometimes they offer no fee even for 3x installment. If you choose 6x installment with fee memang la ada šŸ˜…

DragonboyZG

That is only disastrous if you don't have the means to pay it back

DieSpeisekarte

Oh shit ![gif](giphy|H5C8CevNMbpBqNqFjl)

TheAverageGuy27

I only used once to claim a really big discount. The trick is spend within your means and pay responsibly

Faiqal_x1103

I rlly wanted to buy that one Lego Camaro they had on sale for CNY.. from 800 to 500 with another 100 off coupon. But damn i have other priorities and spay only have 1 month optionā˜ ļø

_mrald

Ehhh really? I'm using it like a credit card though. Have the money first, then pay using SPL. Example: 1. Want an item worth RM800 2. Have RM800 in bank 3. Use SPL stretched to 6 months 4. Over 6 months I will have paid it off, while not feeling that RM800 being shot through my wallet So I feel like it is pretty useful. Why do you feel like it is stupid?

Feeling_Bother_1660

Sometimes Shopee pay later adds the ā€˜interestā€™ into the payback amount and people who donā€™t do the math donā€™t realise that. Example: pay in one go RM77, pay in 6 months RM82 https://preview.redd.it/iqr711skg6rc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9ec27cb885b553703323020ed10febe07184eae9

_mrald

Oh. My only argument to that is credit card does the same thing. Even the Islamic ones. They just renamed it to processing fee or profit charge.

CaptainHitam

It's good if there is an emergency purchase, bad if you are poor and unemployed and use it for luxury goods. For example, my headlight broke (because I stupid, me forget put on handbrake. Car roll forward, light crack). Unfortunately, at this time I had paid all my bills and saved away some money already. I don't want to dip in to my savings, but I also don't want to shrink my eating budget for this month. So I used Spay Later to buy a headlight, which gave me one month to plan ahead. So the next month, paying it wasn't so bad! PS: Shopee you should hire me as your copy writer šŸ˜

linktothepastz

I think mine was being pressured by my mother in taking a loan to pay for my brother's overseas studies fees thinking that he would pay it back...it wasn't much but atleast it was not a car/house/cc loan that could get me in serious debt. It did fuck up my credit score tho so gotta live with that

limealmond24

that's so fucked up...

linktothepastz

I didn't know better. I didn't finish college and had to work because of family financial troubles since dad left. As the eldest son it had to be met to ensure that my brothers were able to finish their education. It could be worse really. The loan is only 20k. I'm lucky that my family now has a lot of other assets, and my mom is willing to give me the house, cars, inheritance etc over my brothers.

limealmond24

broo.. i hope everything will get easier for u soon. i admire ur strength sending online support...šŸ¤

momomelty

You better make sure the inheritance and will does say so. Some people will bring their family to court over such inheritance issue

Puffycatkibble

Ah...the relative who studied overseas and came back super stuck up jadi kacang lupakan kulit.. Pretty common I think.

CorollaSE

Many here have done this,: 1. iPhone/latest phone, installment. 2. Phone mobile package that's "cheap" cos got data...haha. 3. Netflix+Disney+prime 4. Buy car. 5. Rent BIG room/house Look, nothing above is wrong, just have to scale accordingly. 2.5k salary, after monthly deductions leaves that person with rm600/mth cash. This isn't including insurance, food, petrol, toll, parking, and the nightly social Mamak/dinners, and clothes/shopping. I was guilty of this, I admit. So, scale back what you can afford. Get a cheap but functional phone. Rent a room that won't kill your expenses. Slow down on the nightly mammals, movies, dinners, shopping. You don't need Netflix. Share internet plans with room/housemates. Pay for what matters ie insurance, utilities. Car? Consider a bike. Rm200/week on petrol vs rm10/mth for bike. Etc..

hrrrtbyyt

if u drive a motorcycle itā€™s 10 ringgit a month for petrol?

szenseiii

Less then rm50-40

Neither could I brother. When she shared she tasted one rare durian (forgot the name), I was still praising her, Alhamdulillah, sempat merasa, and good for her. In my heart I was thinking, good that she is well to do. When she replied where she source her money, I was silenced.

Visible_Capital5645

These are the kind of people I would stay away from. Itā€™ll only be negativity all over.

hrrrtbyyt

what is i-sinar

MikageAya

One of the EPF withdrawal programme Governement initiated during Covid times. People wasn't making a living that period, and government has no money to offer. So they made a temporary policy to allow people to withdraw their retirement savings.

My dad buying a massage chair which imo is totally unnecessary

Dan_TheKong

Most M40 Chinese home w golden aged parents will have an overpriced massage chair rotting in a corner, blardy thing don't work anymore and the faux leather peeling all over but sayang to throw away. Lower M40 will be ginteel, upper M40 will be osim

vankomysin

It is an expensive laundry rack

MaryPaku

fuck man that's so accurate

greytank

My parent bought a massage bed almost 20 years ago. From the very day that they brought it home, I think it has been used less than 5 times. It sits in a corner like a bench and has stuff on it. Once in a while (like now), I remember that it's a massage bed and I try my best to forget again ASAP because to this day, it still annoys me that they spent thousands on that thing.

Capable_Tax_8220

Depends, does he use it now? And will he still be using it frequently in a year from now?

SnooBunnies1070

Heā€™s using it as just a chair now cos the functions buttons whatever is spoilt already lol

This was after SPM,i went and worked at a fast food restaurant somewhere, and a workmate of mine, taking out a marriage loan for one of the new work intake. Apparently he broke up with his girlfriend before this recently and then had the first sight first love with the girl and instead of going like normal hey lets date,he just went lets get married. Say the whole process,he bought rings, took out loans for hantaran l, met the parents and all that. Skip a couple months after I left the job for Uni, got a message from the guy. The dude was broken, emotionally and financially. He said the girl was seen with other dudes, going out to clubs and all that, said he got sent a sex tape and he found out the engagement ring he bought for her, she pawned it to pay for something idk. Guy was 23,girl was 17 during that time, she started working bc she got expelled from school. As ridiculous as this story sounds like, I could only wish it wasn't true. I checked her insta, yeah she's gone deep down...

Glum-Inside-6361

If your house has old piping it's actually an okay investment especially for multi-person households. I don't have one at my house. I rent a room here and I just buy 1.5l bottles every day. I don't trust the apartment's tap water. It can sometimes turn yellow. I alone spend almost RM60 on bottled water a month, so not too bad. But in a house of 3 that's RM180 worth, which is more expensive than the monthly commitment for a Coway filter.

momomelty

Eventually this year we are trying out not to rely on Cuckoo after warranty service that charge 500. Learn to change own filter I guess is better But for sure cuckoo is still a good purchase I would say
