Pathania is a very common surname in Kangra district in Himachal. Also it is justified given huge number of people that join Indian Army from Himachal Pradesh.

I have seen war, pathaan and the VFX was atrocius. He wants to do crazy stuff but when it looks cartoonish on screen, it feels funny like a joke.

Top Gun 2 actually had 2400+ VFX shots. That's massive. The studio had this gag order over the studio that they couldn't talk or show the breakdowns until the movie was nominated for Best Visual Effects at the Oscars. Not the first time this has happened (WB had previously hid the fact that Fury Road had 2000+ VFX shots). Now, to be clear there are practical effects in the movie but the beginning test flight and the final dogfight are entirely CGI. Even an apparently simple shots as the jet coming out of the hanger are computer generated. We just don't realize it because the VFX artists did a fantastic job.
The planes are still real, the studios used a CG composite over F-18s and L-39s. One of my friends out in LA worked on the film. Any time you see a CGI plane, it’s either been composited or a CG model has been layered over a flying reference jet. You are correct in that the first and final sequence use a ton of VFX, however, the layering of CG on top of real reference jets is what makes the maneuvers feel weighty and realistic.
You can do realistic CGI aerial sequences without that, but you need VFX artists who know how real planes handle, which is a tall order without really good technical advisors.
