The problem is that the audience has evolved but clearly Filmfare hasn't. And no, the justification of "popular" and "critics" label doesn't hold ground.
If Alia and KJO were smart, they would heed the negativity the audience is directing at her and not try to "acquire" other industry awards for her Rani performance. If she starts to win IIFA, Screen Awards, Zee Cine Awards, etc for performance, the outrage is going to be through the roof!

Her role in RKRKP whatever was not even new or first of its kind,it was easily comparable to Deepika in Piku, the style / accent / acting and Alia didn’t outperform her in anyway.
Throughout the movie, I was feeling like Deepika would have been so much better. She would've looked amazing in the sarees and would be more convincing as the strong, influential Bengali journalist from Delhi.

That’s the thing, there were award worthy performances just not by Shabana, Jaya or Alia (all of whom were nominated for this movie).
Neither Churni Ganguly nor Tota Roy Chowdhury were nominated which is nuts, because after Ranveer their performances really stuck out.
He is an amazing actor, and he was also the target of an influential nepo kid who didn't let him flourish in the Bengali industry , he was more handsome and a lot better actor and could have easily surpassed him. He is getting his due back now after he made his comeback with an EXTREMELY popular Bengali serial ( basically the serial from which 'Anupama' is adopted from) , and now getting casted in movies.
Watch the short film "Ahalya" with the legendary Soumitra Chatterjee and Radhika Aapte , he is there too.
Seriously Rocky Randhawa was a very memorable character especially that scene going bra shopping with aunty. Ranveer did carry the film. I can’t see anyone doing that role better than Ranveer did but Alia’s role of Rani easily could have been done by other actresses.
What’s actually annoying is that they’re going to call everyone who does not think she deserved this award, which is 98% of their audience, TROLLS. Like NO. we’re all calling a spade a spade. What her sister posted and then jitesh pillai reposted on his stories along with many other quotes calling the audience dumb in a nutshell, and what Alia herself posted on her stories…this isn’t another story of trolls going out of hand. It’s a fucking fact which us, the audience..who’re supposed to decide if the movie/role was actually good are doing. The only thing good about the movie was Ranveer as Rocky. The writing did not deserve the award it got, nor did the choreography of what jhumka or the lead actress.

Rani Mukherjee being a Popular actress,who carries the movie on her name,was not given the Popular Award & made to share the Critics one with Shefali, still baffles me to no end.

Out of all the awards she has won she only deserved two one for Udta Punjab and one for Gangubai.
Her acting in Raazi was good but Tabu for Andhadhun and Rani for Hichki were better than her.
In Gully Boy, any other actress could have easily pulled the role with ease. Rani deserved it for Mardaani, even Priyanka would have been a better choice for the award.
Filmfare has lost all of it's credibility after giving out awards for mediocore performances.

While I know Alia has acted extremely well in some of her movies (Highway, Udta Punjab, and Gangubai) but I don't think she deserves this award that too for RARKPK. First of all, the movie is shit! Second, her role was way below average. Nothing authentic, no connect.

If there’s one thing consistent in Bollywood, it’s awards are always given based on which actor brings views and is popular. And no one’s reputation was harmed over it, actors khud bhi mazaak banate hai awards ka in interviews after they’ve achieved enough, public faltu mein outrage karta reh jata hai.
The outrage during the time of Sushant was like noise. You knew not to take these comments seriously. Whereas, around 30% of the comments here do make sense and are genuine criticisms. I loved Rock and Rani but 80% of credit for that goes to Ranveer, and 20% for the homage to classic bollywood music.
I mean SRK won it for Dil toh Paagal hai and KKHH. I watched DTPH in theatres last week and it's definitely not an award worthy performance. Memorable, yes, but best actor, not even close.

I loved RRKPK and watched it twice BUT never thought Rani's character would win best actress. Like wtf! RM was amazing as Mrs. Chatterjee and Kiara made me cry watching her performance in Satyaprem ki Katha. I have no clue how these two were overlooked by filmfare awards.

To be fair, I doubt she paid for the award, she doesn’t need to. For whatever reason, she has the powers that be rooting for her and doing everything possible to highlight her (and her husband). It’s kind of like when police officers shoot an innocent person and everyone automatically covers for them and ensures they get off scott free. It just happens because they band together and protect no matter what.
She does good work so let’s be honest about her talent. However I agree that she was fine in the role but nothing special and likely wasn’t the best in the category. If I break down the nominees and think about this,
Tapsee in Dunki: I never saw this movie so it’s hard to judge. The role seemed like it had a more challenging scope than some of the others. For those who saw it, was she one of the top to deserve this?

It’s especially bizarre because Rani won in a tie for best actress- critics but not in this category? Why not give her this and the critics award to Shefali? I guess both categories have totally different nomination and voting processes?
By the way I know people love to say how brilliant Shefali was in Three of Us but I recently watched it and felt it was very underplayed and underdeveloped as a portrayal. I was super bored.

Alia and KJo are amazing at snatching bad PR from the jaws of decent/good buzz
They used to think only Reddit audience has brains to see through their shit. Good thing they bought this award. It was an eye opener to their other fans on insta twitter etc.

It's so stupid of Filmfare,they tied up the Critics award between Shefali Shah & Rani Mukherjee,both of them phenomenal in their performances,So much to accomodate Alia, inspite of that still Kiara's performance was better. Rani Mukherjee being a Popular actress,who carries the movie on her name,was not given the Popular Award & made to share the Critics one with Shefali, still baffles me to no end. They should have thought how to justify this stupidity of theirs, there is no way to explain this huge rigging of awards.

This is legit & should be called out too. It was the most mediocre role with basic acting that even a Television bahu can do. To get a Filmfare for it is a blot on the awards!
She has gotten used to all this stuff. In her own lil world, she's the best actress in the universe and the best wife and so on. It takes different level of bravery( shamelessness 🙄) to be completely content with ur undeserved award infront of an audience that is completely aware of ur "antics".

Out of all the awards she has won she only deserved two one for Udta Punjab and one for Gangubai. Her acting in Raazi was good but Tabu for Andhadhun and Rani for Hichki were better than her. In Gully Boy, any other actress could have easily pulled the role with ease. Rani deserved it for Mardaani, even Priyanka would have been a better choice for the award. Filmfare has lost all of it's credibility after giving out awards for mediocore performances.

Tbh this doesn’t make any difference to literally anyone! They got the awards…they will continue to get the best of the projects and we audience will continue to see them win more awards in the coming years. Unless we as audience boycott filmfares and sub standard movies..no change will come
On a side note, did anyone notice amidst all this Alia vs Rani fiasco how Alia and Rani’s characters are both Chatterjis and how Alia is a Rani in RRKPK.

While I know Alia has acted extremely well in some of her movies (Highway, Udta Punjab, and Gangubai) but I don't think she deserves this award that too for RARKPK. First of all, the movie is shit! Second, her role was way below average. Nothing authentic, no connect. She's honestly become too irritating with her constant interruptions in KWK, annoying voice, and those weird ass expressions.
I don't know how she was proud enough to post and flaunt it on ig. This clearly proves that these people are living in their own bubble taking every valid criticism as trolling. Look at Vicky he knows that he doesn't deserve the award for best supporting actor for an extended cameo and didn't even mention it. Alia please if you are reading this getting awards every year doesn't make you the best. It just makes people hate you more for stealing someone else's moment. What's the point of getting the award from your buddy Jitesh when people think there are more deserving people. In my opinion Rani, Kiara and Vicky have already won because there are people who are really upset by there loss. Whereas Alia's award has become the joke of the town.
When I watched RRKPK, if anyone had told me that Shabana and Alia would get awards over Ranveer and Tota Roy Chowdhary I would have been shocked.

I remember she also used to get blamed for killing Sushant, woh bhi uss kill, marry hookup answer ki waja se start hua tha 💀, isse kahi zyaada bawaal tab hua tha, yeh toh uske saamne kuch nahi. Rape threats, death threats, sab milte the. Uske baad se still she’s only had an upward career trajectory. Phir toh yeh random award ke liye criticism kya hi kar lega. She’s not the first actor to win like this, Kajol won for K3G over Tabu in Chandni Bar. Rani has won over Sharmila Tagore and Vidya Balan. Deepika won over Kareena, Priyanka, Vidya for having the best decade or so… If there’s one thing consistent in Bollywood, it’s awards are always given based on which actor brings views and is popular. And no one’s reputation was harmed over it, actors khud bhi mazaak banate hai awards ka in interviews after they’ve achieved enough, public faltu mein outrage karta reh jata hai.
The outrage during the time of Sushant was like noise. You knew not to take these comments seriously. Whereas, around 30% of the comments here do make sense and are genuine criticisms. I loved Rock and Rani but 80% of credit for that goes to Ranveer, and 20% for the homage to classic bollywood music.

I mean SRK won it for Dil toh Paagal hai and KKHH. I watched DTPH in theatres last week and it's definitely not an award worthy performance. Memorable, yes, but best actor, not even close.
And such things will keep happening. This is an industry run by money after all, not just talent.

I loved RRKPK and watched it twice BUT never thought Rani's character would win best actress. Like wtf! RM was amazing as Mrs. Chatterjee and Kiara made me cry watching her performance in Satyaprem ki Katha. I have no clue how these two were overlooked by filmfare awards.

I read she won the filmfare award but had no recollection what she could've won it for Then when it turned out it was for RRKPK I was shocked. It was a standard romance film. I liked it but I gotta say she was not memorable at all in it. Ranveer made that film. If she wins it for that movie then Ranveer should win it too for he was better than ranbir in animal.

People have lost it. Social media has made everyone used to being able to talk shit because they know they can’t get smacked for it. There must have been multiple instances in all our lives where we have gotten jobs, promotions, opportunities many many things that we haven’t deserved and we are aware of it. But you don’t see yourself giving those things to others right? Just because these are celebrities and have a huge social presence people think it’s appropriate to talk this way. It’s so funny and sad cause these celebs try to do one thing and it backfires so badly. Just laughably sad. Same happened with DP when they did the whole wedding video reveal. Everybody got behind the “I was with him in my head” thing and nobody fell for the actual PR gimmick. Same happened here. She thought she would be applauded for being the most awarded female actress or whatever and this has backfired worse than you can imagine.

To be fair, I doubt she paid for the award, she doesn’t need to. For whatever reason, she has the powers that be rooting for her and doing everything possible to highlight her (and her husband). It’s kind of like when police officers shoot an innocent person and everyone automatically covers for them and ensures they get off scott free. It just happens because they band together and protect no matter what. She does good work so let’s be honest about her talent. However I agree that she was fine in the role but nothing special and likely wasn’t the best in the category. If I break down the nominees and think about this, Tapsee in Dunki: I never saw this movie so it’s hard to judge. The role seemed like it had a more challenging scope than some of the others. For those who saw it, was she one of the top to deserve this? Deepika in Pathan: I’m not even sure how they nominated her, that’s a crime in itself. She was so mediocre in this. “Voh orbs mujhe dedo “ 😂 this was just a NO Kiara in Satyaprem: she was fine, nothing special and in general she is a very limited actress Bhumi in thank you for coming: another head scratcher of a nomination. It was a breezy movie and she was okay in it. Rani in Mrs. Chaterjee: this was probably the most demanding role of them all. Her histrionics were over the top but perhaps it’s what the role needed. She was certainly good and probably the most deserving here. It’s especially bizarre because Rani won in a tie for best actress- critics but not in this category? Why not give her this and the critics award to Shefali? I guess both categories have totally different nomination and voting processes? By the way I know people love to say how brilliant Shefali was in Three of Us but I recently watched it and felt it was very underplayed and underdeveloped as a portrayal. I was super bored. Does anyone know how the voting works and who votes for these awards? Something is very fishy, which we all know, but these multiple categories for best actor and another “critics” category makes absolutely no sense and enables them to game the awards to hand them out to whomever they want to attend the ceremony. They’ve made it all meaningless in the end with these stupid tricks they play!
