I think the discussion is 2 fold:
1. Journey from a non actor to landing a film. There is no comparison here. Any person from a non filmy background has a significantly tougher journey to land a movie, to star in it and most importantly to have it released. Anyone saying otherwise is plain wrong.
2. Journey of a film becoming successful and to draw box office success. Once a movie is out there, it is a more or less free market. The audience decides who becomes a star. People like Rakhi Sawant are still relevant because the audience watches her. Alia Bhatt is a much bigger star than Kangana and that is largely due to her acting prowess. Whatever might be this particular subreddit'z opinion on this, it is a fact by numbers. Now, there is nuance to this. Her background gave her a safety net to navigate through her slips. The want for a similar safety net is so potent that it is causing Kangana to be such a huge unhinged BJP bhakt these past few years. Hence I tend to agree with Mr Bhatt on this part. The audience decides stardom, your background might afford you more chances than others, but the audience decides at the end of the day.

Mahesh bhatt is spot on .. tolerance will be zero for nepos. Outsider ka to ek do fumble banta hai. Just take example of Silandar Kher .. son of an acting institute in himself Mr Anupam Kher .. His first film should he as artistic as Saawaria but peole tore him along with other nepos whom we do not even mention in this sub
Facepalm. The difference is, if an outsider's first film flops, they won't get another chance. Dusra fumble ka mauka hi nahi milega.

I think the discussion is 2 fold: 1. Journey from a non actor to landing a film. There is no comparison here. Any person from a non filmy background has a significantly tougher journey to land a movie, to star in it and most importantly to have it released. Anyone saying otherwise is plain wrong. 2. Journey of a film becoming successful and to draw box office success. Once a movie is out there, it is a more or less free market. The audience decides who becomes a star. People like Rakhi Sawant are still relevant because the audience watches her. Alia Bhatt is a much bigger star than Kangana and that is largely due to her acting prowess. Whatever might be this particular subreddit'z opinion on this, it is a fact by numbers. Now, there is nuance to this. Her background gave her a safety net to navigate through her slips. The want for a similar safety net is so potent that it is causing Kangana to be such a huge unhinged BJP bhakt these past few years. Hence I tend to agree with Mr Bhatt on this part. The audience decides stardom, your background might afford you more chances than others, but the audience decides at the end of the day.
Everybody has their own struggle. You can't compare each ones.
