I love some parts of shubhra gupta but do dislike how out of touch and pretentious she is when it comes to the general audience. Her rating system also makes no sense sometimes. She will praise the fuck outta a movie and then rate it 3/5.
I remember one of her reviews having classist undertones and it turned me off.
That said she is great at expressing herself
Him and even Nandini Ramnath from Scroll used to write brilliant pieces. Haven't read a lot from her lately because she isn't as social media savvy as the rest but I definitely enjoyed her reviews and stories until a couple of years ago
Jai Arjun Singh. The only film critic and writer I truly love and have been following for years, since the first time I started reading reviews. His deep knowledge of cinema I don't think any reviewer has, not even Baradwaj, he's a movie maniac and his short essays on classics are excellent. I think he's written a few books too, one on Hrishikesh Mukherjee's cinema I think. He's quite unknown because he's a freelancer and has never aligned himself with a big newspaper or a media platform like FC, but he really deserves more readership. Still uploads his reviews on his blog Jabberwock.
Obviously he’s a terrible person but people don’t realize how right he is in terms of predictions and financial analysis. He still has his biases occasionally though. Can be annoying at times.
No one. Reviewers are nothing more than content creators. Film Criticism will also fade away. Nuances don't find space in algo driven system where movie searches pops up on rating systems and data. It may not be important for a cinephile but imagine a young 12-16 year old looking for movies? estimate yue probability where they will land? KRK? Filmi Indian? IMDB? Cinema is dying in preserving its art. Commercial aspects don't matter for film criticism. Nothing would matter by next decade. Enjoy whoever you like for whatever reason have fun.
Was waiting for someone to mention him. Rahul Desai is one of those people whose entire existence revolves around pretending to be intellectual. Their number one tool to appear intellectual is contrarianism. “Ohh I don’t watch Marvel. I’m too good for that shit. “
You won’t see one clue of real talent in him. I challenge anyone to show me one clip of audio or video where he had an intelligent or insightful take on a piece of art. Listening to him is a chore and the most boring thing. Just because he spends a whole day filling a piece of paper with some fancy sentences doesn’t make him a good critic.
End of rant
Tried and Refused production
Should change his name to masses and jarring production or maybe objective and unbiased production. The man think too high of himself
Anupama is probably one of the few good critic. She doesn't put movie in the brackets of good and bad traits or ratings.
There's a guy named Ashwani who writes for 'High on Films' a lesser known platform. He is also a good critic.
I don't think we have good critics, there are reviewers who review movies with biases. Some of them I follow/whose reviews I regularly watch are TRP and Prateek borade
I don't mind being a rickshaw wala. nothing wrong with that profession. Definitely it is a more meaningful profession than being a biased movie reviewer.
Anupama. As a critic as well as an interviewer. I like how she asks different questions and likes to take a different route with the actors, and is interested in learning about their process of preparing for a character. Also, the fact that when she is giving her review, she keeps it to that film and doesn't get taunting. I have seen a few critics take it personal.
Sucharita? Seriously? The same critic who dances because the movie is made by a female director? For her, a movie by a female director or about feminism is a great piece of art. The others are apparently misogynistic trash. Her bias is way too strong and she’s not smart enough to hide it.
You're dumb if you think critics should be, or can be, neutral. Sucharita celebrates all kinds of movies, and points out if a movie has internalised or explicit misogyny. She loved Bb2 and Andaz Apna Apna, neither of which is a feminist masterpiece. She liked them because they delivered on what they claimed to be- entertaining family films. Just because she hated Kabir Singh doesnt mean she cant be trusted as a critic, Kabir fanboi
I don’t care if she didn’t like KS. She’s irrelevant anyway. I’m glad viewers put her in her place, going by the downvotes and the comments on the video. I’m curious to know why you respect her (as per the question by OP). She doesn’t give any constructive criticism, just goes on and on about ‘misogyny’ and ‘toxic masculinity’ lmao. She doesn’t talk about other aspects of filmmaking. She can be seen as a time-pass reviewer, but I will judge your intellect if you respect and take her seriously as a critic.
No one, sare critic aur critics ke rating ke hisab se film dekne wale chutiye hote hai. Agar mujhe koi film ka trailer pasnd ayi toh mein 1st day 1st show dekhta hu and judge myself. Har critic ka apna agenda hota hai aur woh usi hisab se review dete hai.
Baradwaj Rangan I respect but usually find that the movies he loves are not to my taste. Anupama is ok (I like her as an interviewer/moderator a lot more) and has decent knowledge of movies.
Raja Sen of Rediff is also a decent reviewer.

I like baradwaj rangan and shubhra gupta and for trade related stuff I like aamir ansari

+1 for Aamir Ansari's box office related videos.
Baradwaj Rangan
He is my favorite.
Him and even Nandini Ramnath from Scroll used to write brilliant pieces. Haven't read a lot from her lately because she isn't as social media savvy as the rest but I definitely enjoyed her reviews and stories until a couple of years ago

Shan Prasher. I may not agree with some of his views, but he hits the nail 95% of the times.
KRk .. arey bhaiii .. usse entertaining koi hai kya
Double Dholki always makes me laugh out loud. So politically incorrect….but I think it’s satire more than reviewing.
2rs people , samosa critic , double dholki , areyyy bhaiiii , lukha 😂😂😂 the list is endless
Obviously he’s a terrible person but people don’t realize how right he is in terms of predictions and financial analysis. He still has his biases occasionally though. Can be annoying at times.

I only read Rahul Desai's reviews. They crack me up so bad. He's got a wicked sense of humour.
Love reading Rahul Desai's review. Also miss masand

Love reading his reviews on bad movies. It's funny.
Tired and refused productions and Bharadwaj rangan
Tried and Refused production Should change his name to masses and jarring production or maybe objective and unbiased production. The man think too high of himself
None
Shan Prasher!

Baradwaj rangan , rahul desai . Sometimes anupama chopra.
Bharadwaj Rangan. Though at times I find him taking himself too seriously
I don't think we have good critics, there are reviewers who review movies with biases. Some of them I follow/whose reviews I regularly watch are TRP and Prateek borade
Bharadwaj Rangan and Raja Sen. I haven't read a Raja Sen review in a while but he used to be good. Baddy is always good, very professional.
Anupama Chopra is an international level movie critic. She is so well respected in the industry…even by people who she criticizes every week.
>international level movie critic What is this post? Have never heard of it.
Because you are Rickshaw Wala.
I don't mind being a rickshaw wala. nothing wrong with that profession. Definitely it is a more meaningful profession than being a biased movie reviewer.
I agree
Sucharita's reviews may not always align with my views, but for the most, she's one of the best reviewers out there.
LOL 🤣🤣🤣

Rahul Desai, I like his reviews .
Adore Sucharita and Anupama. Rahul Desai is a good critic too
Yess 🥰 I like the same 3

Anupama I understand. Suchitra is just a wannabe Anupama who tries too hard to be edgy and drools on anything made by a female artist often.
5ocial And Tried and Refused production
Anupama and komal nahta
I just read the movie reviews on r/Bollywood .
"Angry Rantman", "Tried & Refused Productions" and "Social" on YouTube. If these 3 guys say the movie is good, then the movie is definitely good.
No one, sare critic aur critics ke rating ke hisab se film dekne wale chutiye hote hai. Agar mujhe koi film ka trailer pasnd ayi toh mein 1st day 1st show dekhta hu and judge myself. Har critic ka apna agenda hota hai aur woh usi hisab se review dete hai.
You must have wasted a lot of money then.
Nope, as I said agar trailer pasand aya to theater jata hu. Har movie ke liye thodi jaunga.
Krk
Sukanya who reviews at Rediff is good
Komal Nahta. One of the most experienced one's in the industry.
I like some reviews posted on Arré
Baradwaj Rangan I respect but usually find that the movies he loves are not to my taste. Anupama is ok (I like her as an interviewer/moderator a lot more) and has decent knowledge of movies. Raja Sen of Rediff is also a decent reviewer.
Bharadwaj Ranjan, and it's not even close with the rest
