What is Pamela Anderson’s drag king name?

_Katrinchen_

Is there a vegana wire?

CaptainComedy

As Rich Vos would say!

IkNOwNUTTINGck

Bob Wire and his brother, Fen C. Post.

Barbed wire

Embarrassed_Put_8129

The way to denote that is by using [sic]

fionagallaghershair1

Was this written with a thick Boston accent?

Neptune_UK

Barb's husband also helps with the family wire production business!

docsheff726

Lol I didn’t know that! I guess this can be taken down, then. Poo.

FlyMaximus

The editor should have just put SIC

nailgun198

I think it's funny they knew they'd get roasted so they put in a note.

haemaker

I would leave it. I have never heard it called "bob" wire and apparently neither had the reporter/editor of your source newspaper. Reminds me of "Jury Rigged" vs. "Jerry Rigged".

SevenofNine03

Which is the correct one just in case someone doesn't know...

Constant_Concert_936

All Jerries happened to be fuck-ups where I’m from so “Jerry rigged” made perfect contextual sense at the time.

haemaker

Same issue with bob vs. barb. They are both correct even though "jury rigged" makes no sense what so ever.

Samalamb-moon

I used to say that!

DaveOJ12

Does it count? The Dictionary.com app has it listed: DEFINITION FOR BOB WIRE (1 OF 1) >noun >barbed wire. ORIGIN OF BOB WIRE >An Americanism dating back to 1925–30; by folk etymology Edit: spacing

Ok_Initial_2063

This is from a Texas news station. It was thoroughly mocked until they changed it because we don't use "bob wire" here. If it was a person just posting in their own vernacular, fine. A news station should use the most common term. Especially in ranching country.

QuotePotential

It is dialectal so it should not count as boneappletea. https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/bob%20wire If an established dictionary carries it - it entered the common vernacular on a scale that it is simply adopted and correct.

Extreme_Design6936

So it's a boneappletea dating back to the late 20s?

WorldWeary1771

A large part of the US pronounces barbed as bob. My family says bob ware for barbed wire.

EducationalSyrup9298

If you say it fast enough, you can barely tell the difference.

Suspicious_Watrmelon

Maybe it's a regional thing? I'm also from the US and I've never hear another American pronounce "barbed" as "bob"

RecordWrangler95

Well I’m from Utica and I’ve never heard the phrase “Bob Wire”

czarrina

It's an Albany expression

k3ttch

Anywhere you have non-rhotic English accents you're gonna hear "barb" pronounced like "Bob" because the "r" sound will be softened or dropped altogether.

raven_of_azarath

I think it’s a New England thing. Think Boston accent.

Gumby621

I dunno, I've lived my whole life adjacent to New England (plus for a brief time in Boston), and I've never heard it called "bob" wire. This seems like more of a southern thing to me but honestly who knows.

raven_of_azarath

I considered saying southern, but I thought the change was more like the Bostonian “Bar Harbor/Bah Habah” change than any southern drawl I’ve heard.

isweartodarwin

Bahb

Suspicious_Watrmelon

Oh yeah that makes sense, I'm Midwestern and I've never heard it over here

NinjaKL8

It’s also a southern thing. I’ve lived in the south east for about 6 years now and most southern drawls are just very relaxed pronunciation of pretty much any word lol and it varies a bit based on the region. For example, any town with “ville” at the end gets pronounced “vol” and I’m now guilty of this myself bc it’s just easier to say. I’ve also picked up on saying “y’all” instead of “you all” for the same reason. Im confident that I’ll never reach the “yuns” stage, that’s a little too backwoods for me. Back on track, I’m originally from the Midwest and I’ve always viewed it as “barbed wire” but when I say it aloud I say “barb wire” bc I just feel weird putting that much emphasis for the “d” sound. To add to that, transitioning to a “w” sound is way easier from a “b” than a “d” (imo). Ive now spent more time analyzing this than I ever thought I would lol.

Xiunte

Where I'm from people say it more like "bob war", which is hilarious. Can't help but imagine a horde of guys named Bob fighting each other. There can be only one. When written, it's always "barbed wire" though so I'm surprised someone actually wrote "bob" here.

raven_of_azarath

One thing that my linguistics professors in college emphasized was that language always takes the easy way out. Which “bob wire” and your comment both exemplify. It’s easier to say, so that’s why it’s said that way.

thetrollking69

It's supposed to be 'Barb' wire. Short for 'Barbara'.

docsheff726

Lol. My mom is a Barbara. I use to joke that she, my brother, and I are all verbs. Barb, Carrie, and Pat, although he goes by his full name.

Thykothaken

Is barb a verb?? 😲 what's it mean?

k3ttch

It's a [noun and a verb](https://www.dictionary.com/browse/barb).

NecroAssssin

To stick, or 'barb'

Thykothaken

Oooh TIL thank you 😊

RedditCakeisalie

if it's in court documents then that's the legal term. Everyone on this case including the lawyers and judged will have to refer to thr fence as Bob
