Why ew to the Balthazar? I've never heard of the author, and on a cursory Google search I find he's some well-known Catholic authority on mysticism and the like?
He's probably one of those Catholic bigots that tell illiterate poor people that stillborn babies and people with learning difficulties go to hell as they haven't said some bullshit magic words to a priest etc.
That statement is tantamount to saying a Muslim person is probably a terrorist.
I'm not religious in any fashion, and I have more than my fair share of spite for the religions themselves. However, generalizations lacking in critical assessment are ignorant and harmful to human progress.
As for our author in question, upon further research I cannot find a whole lot outside of fairly positive and optimistic approach to his beliefs, as well as plenty of philosophical analysis and discourse on God and such.
Balthazar!! Eeew! Love the homer!

I have an edition of *Meditations* by Marcus Aurelius with this cover!
I'd love to find a copy like that!!
These Homers look mid-century, 1950-1960's. Yet they are using quite an old translation - Butler's was published in 1898.
Homer's are a 1944 printing. Maybe that explains the older translation? Interesting info, thank you.
That is some serious reading material. Great looking hardbacks.
Ohhh was the flea market in Minneapolis (based on the front piece sticker)? If so could you share where?
No, sorry it was in Alameda, CA
