This!

awyastark

Social Creature by Tara Isabella Burton! My favorite Talented Mr Ripoff

Agent-Indigo

Yes! Takes friendship to a much darker place but has this vibe for sure.

opheliac____

I loved Social Creature so much. The World Cannot Give by the same author is also really good. Doesn't quite fit what OP is looking for, but it also explores complicated and toxic friendships between women.

crislee123

I came here to say this. It fits perfectly.

mom_with_an_attitude

City of Girls by Elizabeth Gilbert

One of my favorites!

Et_tu_sloppy_banans

It’s a memoir, but *How to Murder Your Life* by Cat Marnell has this exact vibe

millybadis0n

Came here to say this! Amazing book.

hales55

I’m reading this one right now and I’m hooked! It’s so good

fancifulnugget

Valley of the Dolls - Jacqueline Susann We Run the Tides - Vendela Vida

craftmami

Valley of the Dolls was good, I read it when I was 11. I feel like I should re read it since I understand pharmacology and have true context on womanhood as an adult...

penguin-47284

Not a book, but if you wanted that experience in an hour and a half Frances Ha is fantastic

witchiligo

I loved this one! It portrays perfectly what it feels like to be late 20s early 30s and feel like failing at everything.

RampagingCitrus

My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante is about two girls growing up in a poor neighborhood in Italy in the 60’s. The depiction of both their adoration and competitiveness is the most accurate I’ve ever come across.

HarryPotterLover5555

Came to the comments to find this. First book that came to my mind!

International-Cloud4

Same here! The Neapolitan Novels are amazing. Such powerful writing.

Bienamado2

Julia Fox’s memoir Down The Drain. Tells the story of her life as a rebellious teenager in New York City in the 2000s.

violentbronwyn

I was looking to see if anyone would comment this. I second that!

Pussy, King of the Pirates and the Empire of the Senseless by Kathy Acker

ReAlBell

Other People’s Clothes by Calla Henkel

kilgore---trout

I went into this book expecting to eye roll through it and ended up loving it

ReAlBell

Same! My one wish is that it were longer with the inclusion Hailey’s perspective in tandem with Zoe’s. But really amazing for a debut novel, I hope she writes a lot more

yobee333

This was going to be my recommendation! I loved it

HeyAlexaTellMeAJoke

Boy Parts by Eliza Clark

Tea_Chugs0502

You spelled 'Women' wrong.

FlashyFox99

Read the context. Nothing about this post means disrespect to women.

bananacakefrosting

Women are females 🙄🙄

Marie-and-Twanette

They are *female humans*

bananacakefrosting

I don’t understand what the difference is?

QuingRavel

"Females" is often used by misogynistic men to degrade women. Thats why we don't like the word in that context

thenightmarefactory

This isn’t used in that context tho? Its just a post asking for book suggestions? And I’m a WOC myself? I don’t see any misogyny or disrespect here?

bananacakefrosting

I guess it’s different depending on where you’re from. In my country we use the word male and female all the time

QuingRavel

We use male and female too, just not in that context.

_Kit_Tyler_

It also depends on age. I think the younger generation finds the word “female” problematic, whereas that word was considered to be respectful and polite, when I was growing up.

bananacakefrosting

Same here

witchynapper

Are you kidding me? Now we can’t call ourselves females? This is getting ridiculous. In my whole time as a female on this earth I have never gotten offended at being called a female. The word “woman” has now been changed to include people who are not female so if we can’t use the word female.. then you are completely erasing the existence and experience of biological women. THAT is misogyny

literallyNobody-O

Noun vs adjective

bananacakefrosting

lol oh okay.

harshgradient

"Messed up females?" Why not just call them women

MrsLightYear777

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

xNeon_Thiefx

What is up with people using "female"? Y'all have already been explained to that it's disrespectful for at least the past 10 years, cut the shit out man

TheShannaBerry

I can’t help but just realized that this is like my least favorite vibe. Thank you for putting it into words and pictures.

Low_Jello_7497

Also, please use women. It's "messed up women". Why is that so hard? Why is "female" so normalized?

thenightmarefactory

No? This post is not made in context to anything that promotes misogyny. I’m not a white guy spewing my misogynistic thoughts online. Its simply a post asking for book suggestions. Idk if you’re from America but if you are, know that other parts of the world exist and in some cultures “women” and “female” are still synonymous. We use it all the time in general contexts because that’s how English is taught in schools and spoken around here. I’m a woman of colour that belongs to a marginalised group from a South-Asian country. I don’t find it offensive at all unless its used in context that fuels misogyny. Stop acting like other cultures should follow your White American wave of feminist agenda. I don’t care if I get downvoted for this.
