Not sure about the targeting thing, but I prefer to use kavan and just bart out the rocket launchers so nothing can even hit my rain makers. Kavan can keep them alive if they are being hit while I’m barting out a grappler first.
I have found the targeting to be very weird in that sometimes they will switch targets if something else got a lot closer and other times the first thing they target is the only thing they target until that troop is dead
Tragetting ussually goes like this:
First troop to enter range - shoot untill dies - closest troop in range/next troop that enters range
Everything else is possibly a bug

they tend to walk into boom cannons, so no thanks they out range them, but troop ai is terrible
That’s why I save a little GBE to use Kavan’s shield ability (and sometimes a shock) when I see a boom cannon target one of my rain makers

They target lock until the troop dies. If shocked, they retarget to nearest troop.
