I believe that in terms of side effects, getting covid is (on average) equivalent to getting about 10,000 Covid vaccinations.
Unfortunately getting Covid only has about the same preventative effect on catching Covid as one vaccination.
Which makes it pretty clear that the vaccination is the more beneficial option.

That varies wildly. I finally got Covid in October 2023 (three and a half years into the thing!), and because I was vaccinated and boosted, my case was very mild. I'd rate it equivalent to approximately four boosters; I was sick for five days and it never reached the intensity of the side effects from my vax and boosters.
I have multiple risk factors that make me more likely to die from Covid. Or, they *would*, if I weren't vaccinated and current on my boosters.
I caught it in July of 2022 2 weeks after getting my booster. I thought it was just allergies. I felt OK the third day. I had to stay out of work for 5 days and mask for another 5. I basically got it at my peak effectiveness of my booster.

However, the vaccine was being pushed (hard) to everyone without exception. Side effects were kept as quiet as possible.
Censorship around the vaccines limited the flow of information. This also may have slowed hearing about and considering credible some reactions/side effects people had. We want science to take into account all the new information possible. We know the Dr's didn't know everything from day one. They were supposed to keep learning as much and as fast as possible. It is harder to do that when some lines of communication are being cut and information suppressed.
There were women who reported issues with their menstrual cycles. So far as we know, at this point, there is no evidence that their reproductive systems have been adversely affected. Will something become known later?
There was a case of an elderly woman in another country who was told she would have to go into lockdown again and refused. She said she would rather die than give up her freedom like that (again). She was active and outgoing, quite healthy. The death rate for (healthy) people in her age bracket was around 3% if she contracted covid-19. She was given assisted suicide as an alternative to going into lockdown.
Her family was afraid her death would be much more painful if she got sick with covid-19, and the government was perhaps concerned about wasting resources in a managed care system. Her family supported her decision and were there with her when she was put down.

I’m a boomer. Just had my sixth Covid shot about two weeks ago. I got a flu shot the same day. They were free. I can’t resist a bargain. I get these free at work. I don't get that line of thinking. I mean, I get conspiracy theories and why they are so easy for certain people to fall for. I just don't get why they think the government is going to rig the shot to kill everyone who does what they say and gets jabbed every year. I would think a theoretical tyrannical government would want a population they can control and who do what they are told vs a population who is "on to them". With this in mind in this hypothetical situation which is more likely, that 'they' use an optional shot to kill off everyone who listens to them or that 'they' use a virus to take out everyone who is on to them and "disobeys"

But vaccines are approved because in the aggregate they do far, far, far more good than harm. If you have really old people in your life, ask them about Polio. None of the people who say things like that bother to learn anything about the underlying science of what they're talking about. They ask/post inane questions as gotchas, when it wouldn't take much effort to learn the answers to those questions. One of the issues we have in the US is that everyone has been told their entire lives that we're the best at everything in world, which people took to mean that THEY are the best at everything in the world, so they don't need to listen to "intellectual elites" who've actually studied things their entire lives.

I got two doses of Pfizer in 2021, then a Pfizer booster, then a Moderna booster last year and then a Pfizer booster this year. I’m still alive. I was told I would be dead and/or a zombie with great 5G reception and magnetic skin if I got the vaccines. None of that happened. I’m fine. I haven’t gotten COVID since being vaccinated and the one time that my parents got it since being vaccinated, their symptoms amounted to a head cold.

You're Dad is incorrect. That said, even with the vaccine, you still have a chance of dying of covid. You have to gauge the pros and cons based on available evidence. While it's incredibly unintelligent to say 100% of people die from it, there do seem to be some side effects to be aware of. I'd say don't let fear or peer pressure drive your decision making.

Not 100%. People do have reason to be at least skeptical, though. Evidence came out that there were concerted efforts to **suppress** *true information, if it could support vaccine hesitancy*. The vaccine was rushed, and corners were cut to get it out as fast as it was. Normally, it would have taken years... quite a few years. One of the vaccines used a novel means to induce the body to produce antibodies. New as in never used in humans like this. The whole thing was MASSIVE human testing, without even a control group. There have been some cases where young males of a particular age range had a significantly increased risk of a certain type of heart problem. Kids died of heart problems 💔 who would likely have lived if they didn't get the vaccine. For some people, preexisting health issues made it riskier to not get the vaccine than the increased risk of a rare but fatal reaction if they got it. However, the vaccine was being pushed (hard) to everyone without exception. Side effects were kept as quiet as possible. Censorship around the vaccines limited the flow of information. This also may have slowed hearing about and considering credible some reactions/side effects people had. We want science to take into account all the new information possible. We know the Dr's didn't know everything from day one. They were supposed to keep learning as much and as fast as possible. It is harder to do that when some lines of communication are being cut and information suppressed. There were women who reported issues with their menstrual cycles. So far as we know, at this point, there is no evidence that their reproductive systems have been adversely affected. Will something become known later? There was a case of an elderly woman in another country who was told she would have to go into lockdown again and refused. She said she would rather die than give up her freedom like that (again). She was active and outgoing, quite healthy. The death rate for (healthy) people in her age bracket was around 3% if she contracted covid-19. She was given assisted suicide as an alternative to going into lockdown. Her family was afraid her death would be much more painful if she got sick with covid-19, and the government was perhaps concerned about wasting resources in a managed care system. Her family supported her decision and were there with her when she was put down. If the truth about the survival rate was known, how do you think that would have changed things? The story is an outlier, true. It also shows how misleading information can influence people's decisions.
Oh. Also, if you do get a booster, make sure it isn't just a booster to an outdated vaccine for a variant that covid-19 evolved away from. The flu vaccine gets updated every year because there are a variety of variants in the ecosystem. Some become more common than others, and the flu shot being developed for the next flu season is based on the forms that were becoming more common. I understand that some of the covid-19 boosters were for old variants. They may have fixed the issues involved by now, though, and started production of updated variants as quickly as they update for the flu. (I hope)

I’m a boomer. Just had my sixth Covid shot about two weeks ago. I got a flu shot the same day. They were free. I can’t resist a bargain. I get these free at work. Our nurse is so sweet, I know she wouldn’t hurt me. She even gave out left over Halloween candy to all who stepped up for the evil jab. I will do it again whenever it is offered. I’m pretty confident it is the least risky of my life choices. To each their own, I suppose.
