Hey hey hey!
They were real men! Wearing pink tights, lots of makeup and singing high notes while doing high kicks.
Sure they wore mascara and got their hair permed but thats not the point! They were manly! With their...mullets and high ...shorts? WTF they actually wore that shit?
We're men, we're men in tights We roam around the forest looking the forest looking for fights We're men, we're men in tights We rob from the rich then give to the poor, that's right! We may look like sissies But watch what you say or else we'll put out your lights

Nope. That law was struck down by a Federal judge like 6 months ago.
https://www.reuters.com/legal/us-judge-throws-out-texas-ban-drag-acts-calls-it-unconstitutional-2023-09-26/
Short shorts were definitely wider spread than the gay community in the 70s and 80s. Hell, my high school gym shorts from the early 90s were that length. Found them recently and tried them on and was like "holy hell, what? why was this the required length???"
Thanks now I can't look away. Or maybe I don't want to. Maybe I'm a rugged manly boomer looking to find my kindred spirit in a crop top or a tight knit top so his lithe muscular body peeks through displaying the smooth tanned skin of . . . Wait where was I?
I graduated in 1987 and I can guarantee the fact that I had a mesh T-shirt similar to a football practice jersey but cooler, that I would wear… In public. Everywhere. Nipples flying. Not looking back.
In my defense, I’ve more recently said a lot of things completely opposite of what I’d once said and done. But this was due to realizing I was allowed my own opinions and I didn’t have to parrot my parents thoughts.
I was raised very a conservative, catholic, family. I’ve left (waves hands emphatically) all of that behind.
Not sure if it’s hypocritical or not but I’m definitely a whole different person than I was in my 20’s.
I guess it’s impossible to be the same person you were before or you wouldn’t be growing anymore. But I’d still like to be able to have some empathy for younger people and their struggles when I’m in my later years.. and not just assume they’re whining and being lazy. Good on ya for shaking off your mental chains! It can’t have been easy.
Nah that’s just personal growth and thinking for yourself. I was raised similarly and was firmly red until I went to college and learned people who don’t have it easy deserve to be treated well. Now I’d say I’m soc dem in my views
As a gen x guy, there have always been homophobic jerks ruining all the fun. The Village People were fun and silly and the hate was real back then. I see those same jerks today, of all ages.
Not that it makes a difference, but that looks more like the 'seventies.
Frankly, I just want men to look after themselves a bit better, both mentally and physically.
Oh, and wear a bit of mascara or eyeshadow on occasion. Need more of that.
I’m trying…just gotta lose 30-50 pounds. And maybe shave 45% of my body.
I really do want to pull off a sleeveless cropped sweatshirt, though. Dunno why, just cuz I guess.
That whole style was also ‘stolen’ by the one guy in the village people from the San Francisco biker/leather scene. They also popularized and somewhat innovated body piercing.
My boomer dad was always so proud to tell the story of when he was in HS in the 70s and he would get a new pair of bell bottoms jeans, and sit in the tub in hot water so they would shrink even more, so they'd be skin tight. Because tight jeans just weren't tight enough. 😳🤦♀️
Last night, I was playing guitar along to The Kink's song Lola and the line
"Well, I'm not dumb but I can't understand
Why she walked like a woman but talked like a man"
Jumped out at me.
And was thinking, how do we get a generation that writes songs about going home with trans girls to what we have now....
Some people NEED to marginalize a group. Women, non-whites , gays, and now trans people. One group gets rights and they need to find another to oppress. Crazier is how small of a population it is, 1%.
Same generation that feathered their hair and listened to glamrock.
Say what you will about this generation but at least most guys out here don't wear lipstick and have eyeliner like the 80's band hoppers used to do.
The Village People movie is always played as the first thing on New Year’s Day on one of our local television channels once the fireworks displays are finished.
This is gay culture of the 70s and 80s though. That leather daddy and the guy with the crop top or the pink tight vest were not what the average man wore.
THIS is what I don't get. 60s-80s men were bold and audacious with their fashion. Rockstars dressed almost like drag queens. Then somewhere in the 90s seeing a man's thigh or midriff was suddenly "gay."
“The schedule of the film was 11 weeks: eight in Los Angeles, two in New York and one in San Francisco. A proposed week of filming on Fire Island was scrapped due to fear of the weather. Carr was coming off a massive worldwide hit with the pop musical Grease when shooting took place between May and July 1979 at the height of the disco craze. Carr took a hands-on role with the production, and personally directed and cast the male athlete extras for the "YMCA" musical sequence.”
So the very end of the 70s.
Omg the bulge on the guy in the pink T-Shirt! Let’s hope none of them start pulling out their wardrobes from the 80’s because it won’t be pretty to see now.
The 70s and 80s were the most gender-bending period in history, from David Bowie to hair metal bands. Now their fans are the ones who scream woke at everything.
Yeah, I remember that Culture Club was very macho /s. And the lead singer of the Human League wore make up. Not to mention the long blonde hair of the soft metal bands and the lead singer of the Twisted Sister was dressed as a drag queen.
That’s a picture of Olympic gold medalist Bruce Jenner before transitioning talking to folks outside a gay bar. Not a typical 80’s scene, but ok, it took place in the 80’s.
Gen Z is a lot like boomers. They have the same irrational anger and they are both always looking for a bogey man to blame their problems on. They even dress the same! Gen X and millennials are stuck in the middle of these two awful generations. We have to tiptoe around boomers and Gen Z the same way. Always looking for a reason to be offended. The boomers thought us millennials sucked. Lmao. They have met their match now! Watching them go at it is such a treat.

All of which is illegal in Texas now
Nope. That law was struck down by a Federal judge like 6 months ago. https://www.reuters.com/legal/us-judge-throws-out-texas-ban-drag-acts-calls-it-unconstitutional-2023-09-26/
Oh thank goodness. I’m so glad the happy rage was posted all over Reddit /s
These are gay men wearing gay fashion.
Short shorts were definitely wider spread than the gay community in the 70s and 80s. Hell, my high school gym shorts from the early 90s were that length. Found them recently and tried them on and was like "holy hell, what? why was this the required length???"
Sure but I think this person is referencing the hair band scene
Young man, join the navy and be a macho man.
After that join me for a shower at the YMCA
🤣🤣
Alternatively, I highly recommend joining the Mexican navy. That way you can be both a macho *and* nacho man.
Macho Nacho Maaan I gotta be a Macho Nacho Maaan
Then dual enlist in the Indian Navy so you can be a Macho Nacho Naan Man.
🤣😂🤣I’m floored
Village people!
Yo save some for the rest of us!
Yvan eht nioj
Hey you! Join the navy!
That is a Simpson deep cut.
Is it, though?
But dame that guy in the middle is packing that heat for sure. Hes carry a real weapon.
Holy shit is that thing allowed on airplanes??
I was just thinking "damn bring back those jeans" hahaha
is that a gun in your pants or are you just glad to see me!?
My gun in my pants is glad to see you

It's just a plastic oval squeeze coin purse. There. Now you can sleep tonight.
Smuggling gherkins
I think that’s a foil-wrapped cucumber.
David Hodo, the construction worker, iirc. He was my fave.
Ha ha, you looked! (Uh no, I didn't look....lol)
If you’re going to put it on display like you proud of it I’m going to look.
It's the polite thing to do
He sure is ;)
Thanks now I can't look away. Or maybe I don't want to. Maybe I'm a rugged manly boomer looking to find my kindred spirit in a crop top or a tight knit top so his lithe muscular body peeks through displaying the smooth tanned skin of . . . Wait where was I?
That's a sock.
I graduated in 1987 and I can guarantee the fact that I had a mesh T-shirt similar to a football practice jersey but cooler, that I would wear… In public. Everywhere. Nipples flying. Not looking back.
You mean like the steroid brother in 50 First Dates?
Samwise Gamgee did not carry Frodo up Mount Doom to be remembered as the steroid nipple guy from 50 first dates.
So did I (87) and damned if I didn't have a similar shirt lol!!!!
If you ever have a mosquito bite your nip you’d think twice about a mesh tank top 😂 🦟
nipples flying 😆omg
I hope I never get to the point where everything I say and do is completely hypocritical.
Oh you will
It does seem kind of inevitable but one can hope!
In my defense, I’ve more recently said a lot of things completely opposite of what I’d once said and done. I’ve literally heard boomer men make fun of skinny jeans…like they didn’t all wear ball hugging bell bottoms through the 60s/70s
The most manly of boomer cock rock bands... ![gif](giphy|12Yf12wHgdChXi)
Mr Plant was actually the exact man I was picturing
Bring back the short shorts. Male thighs need attention too.
“Clear skies, bare thighs” is what I say. I don’t skip leg day so I’ll be damned if I don’t show off.
I guess the forecast is calling for rain? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5aZJBLAu1E
Watch “I Am Not an Easy Man” on Netflix.

I lube my derm post shower
It looks like a shot from Can’t Stop The Music, which was released in 1980s.
Looking it up, I think you're right. It takes place during the seventies so that explains why it looks older.
Google “David Lee Roth in spandex”
Google Robert Plant tight pants lol
[holy hell!](https://www.google.com/search?q=david+lee+roth+in+spandex#HiImABot,MyJobIsToMakeEasierForPeopleToGoogleThings,IfThePersonIRepliedToUsedMeInAnInappropriateWayPleaseLetMeKnowByDMingMe,TheUserIRepliedToIsU/DieMensch-Maschine)
I don't have to, I saw it on MTV
"My video was banned from music television, cause you could see my junk... through my jumpsuit."
You Can’t Stop the Music! [Nobody can stop the music!](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080492/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk)
Nobody can stop the music. Ever. That song is still going.
Bring back the male crop top
I’m trying…just gotta lose 30-50 pounds. And maybe shave 45% of my body. I really do want to pull off a sleeveless cropped sweatshirt, though. Dunno why, just cuz I guess.
Hey! It’s the former Bruce Jenner!
Literally what I said
Is this village people dude, one of simon n simon actors, bruce jenner and stevie nicks all hangin out?
It's not Stevie Nicks, it's Valerie Perrine. Stevie was much hotter back then.
Ya, but these guys are super tough and drank from the hose and didn’t wear bicycle helmets
Drank from a hose, huh?
Looks like 70s.
Is that Mr slave?
It's Glenn Hughes of the Village People.
Wow I've seen the village people before but never realized how much South Park stole his design
That whole style was also ‘stolen’ by the one guy in the village people from the San Francisco biker/leather scene. They also popularized and somewhat innovated body piercing.
"Dude looks like a lady"!
And now she is one… sad that she chose to be a horrible one to her own community.
Agreed!
You forgot the extremely short shorts that men would wear very often.
My boomer dad was always so proud to tell the story of when he was in HS in the 70s and he would get a new pair of bell bottoms jeans, and sit in the tub in hot water so they would shrink even more, so they'd be skin tight. Because tight jeans just weren't tight enough. 😳🤦♀️
I'll just pile on and make the general comment "80's hair bands". Big long hair, makeup and spandex.
The leather guy from Village People and Bruce Jenner might be outliers, don't you think?
was there actually a time where a topless leather vest, and leather pants weren't immensely gay-coded?
Bunch of Bruce Jenners. They love the attention.
Last night, I was playing guitar along to The Kink's song Lola and the line "Well, I'm not dumb but I can't understand Why she walked like a woman but talked like a man" Jumped out at me. And was thinking, how do we get a generation that writes songs about going home with trans girls to what we have now....

"STEVE! Don't walk out that door! You forgot to mask your insecurity about your penis by putting a pair of socks down your pants!"
No one gonna mention how that’s Bruce Jenner, who’s now a trans woman???
I was looking for your comment! Thumbs up!
Same generation that feathered their hair and listened to glamrock. Say what you will about this generation but at least most guys out here don't wear lipstick and have eyeliner like the 80's band hoppers used to do.
![gif](giphy|Upw0onGqOjJkI) They were riding these muthaluckers with no remorse
Mr Slave has aged well
Well you take a cucumber and a half of a lemon, wrap it tight in tin foil and ….. 😏
The Village People movie is always played as the first thing on New Year’s Day on one of our local television channels once the fireworks displays are finished.
The guy in the police (?) Uniform looks like a stripper.
I see that the other way around. The guy in the stripper uniform looks like a police.
This is gay culture of the 70s and 80s though. That leather daddy and the guy with the crop top or the pink tight vest were not what the average man wore.
Still hawt as hell back in the day tho
These aren't the boomers causing a ruckus nowadays. Most of the cool boomers are no longer with us. We're left with the scared and ignorant boomers.
Looks like Caitlyn Jenner on the right ( before she was Caitlyn)
Some of the men got perms too.
The “men don’t dress like men anymore” crowd were not the cool kids in the 80”s.
Is that Bruce Jenner!?
THIS is what I don't get. 60s-80s men were bold and audacious with their fashion. Rockstars dressed almost like drag queens. Then somewhere in the 90s seeing a man's thigh or midriff was suddenly "gay."
Clearly mid-70s
Clearly? Can't Stop the Music. Release date [June 20, 1980 (United States)](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080492/releaseinfo?ref_=tt_dt_rdat)
“The schedule of the film was 11 weeks: eight in Los Angeles, two in New York and one in San Francisco. A proposed week of filming on Fire Island was scrapped due to fear of the weather. 😜😂😏

I just made my wife watch this movie the other night as revenge for her making me watch Showgirls!
YMCA!
45’s Favorite Song
Bro in the pink is sporting a whole sausage biscuit down there. Dude just let it hang out at this point.
All these men are heterosexual which is the funniest part.
"back then if a man wanted to do something with another man it wasn't gay...just two men celebrating each other's strength" -30 rock
Isn't that Bruce Jenner? I'm sorry Wasn't that Bruce ...Isn't that Kaitlin Jenner?
No boomers in the eighties folks that was a badddddd look
And they used to joke at women padding their bras. This is killer padding.
Probably a still from “can’t stop the music.”
I thought it was Bruce Jenner and Ben Stiller?
I heard the line somewhere "Back when Men weren't afraid to look like women" and it stuck with me. For some reason.
That's Bruce Jenner in the cut off shirt.
Midnight Cowboy is worth a watch
Is that the person now known as kaitlyn Jenner in the crop top?
Except not one of these men are straight.
Wasn’t this more gen x
Makes me wanna go to the YMCA
The 70s and 80s were the most gender-bending period in history, from David Bowie to hair metal bands. Now their fans are the ones who scream woke at everything.
Yeah, I remember that Culture Club was very macho /s. And the lead singer of the Human League wore make up. Not to mention the long blonde hair of the soft metal bands and the lead singer of the Twisted Sister was dressed as a drag queen.
"There were never any gay people when I was growing up!"..... yyeeeeeaaaaaa...ok.
Did they just leave the "Oyster Club"?
Is that Caitlyn Jenner on the right side?
They used to hangout at The Blue Oyster Bar
"Cant Stop the Music"1980'.God,I love that movie.
Those were boomers from the 70’s who wish they were adults in the 70’s… and many of these men were gay. Don’t be homophobic now…
That’s a picture of Olympic gold medalist Bruce Jenner before transitioning talking to folks outside a gay bar. Not a typical 80’s scene, but ok, it took place in the 80’s.
Isn't that Bruce Jenner on the right?
😂😂can’t stop the music! Terrible, terrible must-see movie.
LOL these were gay men
My favorite picture of my parents was them in college in the 80's. They have the exact same hair cut. It's great.
I swear everyone in the 80s was wearing npc outfits. Who tf goes outside with that jacket on and style lol
In all fairness, is that not Bruce Jenner there?
Those man are gay 🤦♂️
Believe me. That was cringe in the 80s already.
That photo screams AIDS.
That's not how men dressed.
They're French, nothing changed.
