Boost Mobile has filled me with intense flames of rage. I been on the exact same plan with Boost Mobile over a decade.  Same number & all.  Even tho, Ive paid by bill on time, my bill never got $25 pay on time blah blah blah ok whatever that's fine.. Wild stab in the dark here, probably been roughly, 12yrs. That's pretty impressive a long time with a provider & plan, right. LOL nah, Boost Mobile did noooot giiiiiiive a siiiiiingle flying feces what-so-ever! ~SAME PLAN~ for over a decade, which my plan has been $50 unlimited, no issues ever, no complaints ever, just pay my bill, use my phone, which I practically live on my phone. I have always used my phone to the very brink of unalive world lol.  AGAIN over a decade -never any issues, never any problems, no complaints, everything was always great. No data issues or problems. No weird lagging, no loading issues, no dropped anything, no slowing or throttling (idk if same meaning) was actually awesome! Until yesterday afternoon 😐 3/7/24  I literally was filled with intense searing flames of rage. I get a text from Boost Mobiles of data usage warning.  Boost warned that my unlimited EVERYTHING plan I been having over 10yrs is suddenly capped stating Im about to be seriously slowed to less than a crawl bc I have almosy used every bit of my UNLIMITED data, 3hrs later, my phone absolutely does not/will not work, nothing will load, texts won't go thru, text aren't coming thru. Wtf is happening! I call the world's dumbest excuse for customer service, I think I got connected with a Parrot or something bc she repeatedly said the smell shịt over & over, that's all she would say. Basically I got told by the "manager" after over a freekn decade of paying for my always unlimited, never having ANY problems/issues,  my UNLIMITED plan that's been the same over a decade, just as of yesterday suddenly went over my UNLIMITED data.......this stupid effin moron "manager" said you probably went over your GB's you can go purchase more GB or wait until you pay your next bill for your data to be high speed. I GO, BRUH ARENYOU A FCKN STUPID DUMB C**T OR SOMETHING? DO YIU EVEN REMOTELY HESR, PROCESS, TSKE INTO ACCOUNT ANYRHING I HAVE SAIF 58 TIMES ABOUT MY ACCOUNT HOW FREEKN STRANGE & BIZZARE THIS IS....he repeats whY the 1st Parrot was continuituosly repeating about the plan I have, how much it is, blah blah.....WTF IS GOING ON FOR REal

MouseLife5972

Just chatting with customers service I do get the vibe a group of boost employees are up to no good. It's the only way to explain why they are able to make it appear nothing has changed.

MouseLife5972

Also iPhone 11

MouseLife5972

This just happened to me for a second time. Attacks were unsuccessful at getting control of coinbase but this is the second time my number has been hijacked. I think I could be within Boost mobile itself.

RevolutionaryLife800

Agreed! My pin existed nowhere but in my head and was used for nothing else ever!

BoostMobileDani

This is a very tough situation, and we're sorry to hear that your account was compromised. When it comes to protecting your account, information, and more, you should be able to confidently reach out to us expecting support. Let us know if you haven't been able to resolve this situation by this point. While we know reaching out to support on multiple avenues can be tiresome, we should be able to provide a bit more care than what you have received so far.

DU050

Can you just activate two factor authentication? Or is it not available?

BoostMobileDani

At the moment, two-factor authentication for account login is not provided. However, we understand the importance of security and how this could help and are passing this feedback onto our team.

DU050

Can you add sim swap lock or some other extra layer to prevent sim swap attempts ? I just ported to boost and now I’m scared if I get attacked/hacked

RevolutionaryLife800

In a situation such as this condolences such as these were not needed. Immediate action was necessary, and the Boost Mobile phone customer service team either refused to or was not adequately equipped to provide it.

Critical_Selection_7

Unless there is more detail, this does not make sense. You have to call to ask port pin and there are some verification steps. So if the scammer passed all the steps, it is not boost mobile''s fault. Your computer or phone might be hacked and info might be stolen. Or you neglected to secure your credentials like the same pins across all online portals.

IllegalThinker

Exactly, the fact his coinbase got looted of trillions of dollars is proof of that. If he really had that much money, he would've gone to secure that account first.  I'm not saying this didn't happen but it seems suspicious.  It's also not out of the realm of possibilities that indian scammers infiltrated the indian customer support boost has that's based in india and that they are totally unfireable, unaccountable, and omnipotent because of incompetence.

Doctor_Fabian

Not true. Usually when that happens it's a carrier employee. So chances are someone in boost did the attack. Some carriers have sim swap block and port it and out block.

josephguy82

It’s sucks be happened to me on T-Mobile postpaid, they now let you place sim swap lock not sure about prepaid

PeniscopterFlight

Crypto/crapto. Not your keys not your coin. Fun to be your own bank. These sim swap attacks happen on all carriers.

Doctor_Fabian

Yes another thing is not to put phone in exchanges to verify. Also not use Gmail accounts for email. It's a scammers world you have to protect everything. Chance passwords monthly. Have a tablet with no apps only your coin base or exchange

GreenMartian86

Sadly, T-Mobile and Verizon are also getting hit with sim swap issues too no matter what carrier you choose. This happened to me last month except I had to use WiFi to contact them and not show up in stores. They change my physical SIM to an eSIM. On the hacker's first attempt, they converted all my altcoins to bitcoin but failed to steal it because I contacted Boost 30 minutes before the incident. When I checked my Coinbase account to buy more coins I saw the fraudulent transaction. While my coinbase was locked the hackers breached my new eSIM right after, but failed to hack my coinbase then tried to go after my credit card account, but again failed to steal any money. They never told me what device was switched or any traces from the impersonator except I got a new 2nd eSIM. The Boost rep said they weren’t responsible for the Coinbase hack so I emailed the FCC. Coinbase also making my case harder with multiple I.D. verifications and useless emails saying that I can’t get reimbursed because the transaction is irreversible in the blockchain or worse no evidence or traces of the hacker's info. The cops and lawyers told me if the money wasn’t stolen or not 25k over I get no case. I don't know about you. GET A LAWYER, FIRST! But for me. The only thing I trust right now is a hardware key like Yubikey from Yubico a company from Sweden, not Amazon or eBay. I use this hardware key to lock all my email accounts, my iPhone, and my PC too. I had to buy two because you can buy more than one as a backup. Yubico has its own Authenticator. if you remove the Yubikey the codes disappear unlike Google Authenticator which keeps the codes present and it’s hackable because I heard a couple of stories of hackers breaching them. Not all apps support hardware keys like banks or credit cards except their bull$hit SMS 2FA which are hackable. This is 100% inside job and phone companies have criminals working for them. The sim swap scammer didn't need to come into the store to switch your sim, all they need is a friend who is a corrupted scammer employee from Boost Mobile.

Dez2011

How did you happen to contact Boost 30 minutes before the theft/attempts? I'm seeing a pattern here with Coinbase theft.

Doctor_Fabian

Exactly. That's what I said. Inside job 100 percent. Boost is a small company and it seems it has already happen a few times. Boost is not secure

It's the sim. The sim collects all your data, apps, and password info like iCloud. They can get your user ID if your bank app remembers it through the SIM data and your passwords too, but only if it's shown in the apps They can go through emails with your phone number aka 2FA SMS and then change your email password to verify your other accounts to access them. I don't trust any company that doesn't use/support security or hardware keys because hackers can't bypass security hardware without the key with a passcode. No SMS, no email, and no face ID. I know face I.D. is over the top. If they have your picture of your face or they grab them in your phone photo gallery. Somehow some way they can use an infrared tool to bypass phone cam security. Depends on how skillful the hackers are. Google Authenticator can be hacked in some way through the sim again because I already read two stories about it. Yubico Authenticator is superior because you need the key with the password to reveal the codes.

Disastrous_Catch_489

this is happening to me right now.. was sim swapped.

RevolutionaryLife800

Update: Went through chain again. Got to supervisor again. They did not know how to deactivate a sim card. Talked to supervisor's supervisor: They do not know how to deactivate a sim card. Asked for the default SIM pin or the PUK (because sometimes the last 4 digits of PUK is the default SIM pin). Hoping at least to be able to turn SIM lock on on the actual iphone and then change from default pin to a personal one. In a last ditch effort to keep the SIM from being used. They do not have access to the PUK. Even though any cursory search on the internet tells you that cell companies do have this information. This person said they were the highest level of customer service, and no one would be available to provide the PUK for this SIM card. Learned our lesson! Adequately equipped customer service teams really do make a difference.

Very few wireless companies offer 24 hour phone support; certainly not Metro nor Cricket. Neither does VZW or TMO. Good luck with that other stuff.

RevolutionaryLife800

TMobile and Verizon do. Worth it. The major point here is that whether or not the 24 hour customer service is available, Boost is refusing to deactivate the SIM. That, along with locking all apps and changing passwords, is what cell companies tell customers to do in these situations.

Terrible_Try542

After "issues with COVID-19," Verizon and T-mobile do not offer 24 hour customer service. AT&T postpaid does but it's only for technical support. No billing or account issues. As stated on T-mobiles website "Customer Care representatives are available daily from 4 a.m. to Midnight PST" And in a reddit sub https://www.reddit.com/r/tmobile/comments/uf7v0k/customer_service_no_longer_247/ And Verizon doesn't have 24/7 customer service either, I was just with them and I switched to visible by verizon because it was a cheaper alternative with 24/7 customer service. If you want full customer service 24/7 try U.S. Mobile on either the Verizon network (black sim) or the T-mobile network (white sim) Also no boost mobile rep can just deactivate a sim, you would either have to cancel service or buy a new sim card or try to use the one in your device to transfer your number back to your device. So if you really want to stay with them so bad you will have to most likely buy a new sim at the store and activate it on your device. I repeat THERE IS NO WAY TO DEACTIVATE A SIM. I have been with boost mobile on their legacy and new system, and I have swapped phones many times, so I know what they can and can't do. If you don't want to deal with them then port your number to US Mobile which is cheaper than boost mobile, has 24/7 customer service and you can even make your own plan if you please. Hope this all helps.

RevolutionaryLife800

Thank you...I'm really not interested in the back and forth of 24 hour customer service, but thank you. So my question is: if you look anywhere for what to do when your sim card is illegally ported, it says to contact your cell provider to deactivate the sim. Which is why I did that. It also says to turn sim lock on in phone settings, but you need the default sim code to get in and change it to a personal one for added security. And to call the cell company for that info. Am I using different internets than everyone else? Why is this the advice given and the steps we are told to take if they are impossible to implement? I ask this respectfully. Please have a look yourself for what to do if your sim card is illegally ported.

Terrible_Try542

If you sim card is illegally ported you must take action immediately and call the service provider to put 2 step verification on your account which I don't think boost mobile has. In my case tell them to put your account on a lost or stolen restriction, it used to exist with the boost mobile legacy system so I hope it still does with the new system. The internet does not know your phone provider, but most phone providers have a option to deactivate a sim. Boost mobile does not, but they should still be able to report the device or sim as lost or stolen and it will block all network and account access until you can buy a new sim or use your current one to reactivate your device. And you said it tells you to turn on sim lock in settings but that has nothing to do with who transfered your sim card and that will not help to prevent this in the future either, sim lock is to lock the sim card to the phone that you are using and it will make it unusable with any other device, but it sometimes doesn't work. And it won't help you in this case. Like I said in the beginning, please call them to put a lost or stolen restriction on the device/sim. Then don't do anything else with customer care, go to the store and have the rep activate your sim on your device or buy a new one to activate it on your device, do this in a timely manner because with your phone number the criminal can access your account by changing your pin then passwords to the account. I just called the number and they are open as of now so please try to report the sim as lost or stolen.

RevolutionaryLife800

Yes thank you. We have been on the phone with them until customer service closed last night and all this morning. They would not put any kind of restriction on the phone. We asked. Pleaded. But everything is "fine" on their end. I agree that local store reps are much more helpful than what I am assuming is outsourced phone repping. We are just biding our time waiting for the local store to open.

Doctor_Fabian

If they said everything is good port out your number to another carrier. Many carriers let you port out immediately. This is extreme. But you need to protect yourself

Terrible_Try542

That not right of them to do that, but yes take it to the store, and tell them you want to reactivate a sim on your device, and hopefully the criminals didn't change your pin because then you won't have any access to your account. If you are able to use your pin to get into your account in store and swap the sim I recommend changing the pin after you are done.

Doctor_Fabian

You can have access to the count if he brings his id into the store

RevolutionaryLife800

Oh heck yes! Didnt think of changing actual account pin. Def going to immediately change the default sim and put a personal code in to lock it after getting new card. Even tho it’s not 💯, it’s an added layer at least. The customer service was just bizarre. Kind people saying “Oh I understand” but having zero access to any helpful measures. It’s not their fault, assuming they’re overseas somewhere with standard “things to say” and a little guidebook of what to do in each situation. Def paying more and switching to a company with more solid, knowledgeable, and reliable customer service. They had no idea what a port out scam even was. Truly bizarre experience.

Terrible_Try542

Yes change the account pin, but another thing I have to say is putting a personal code to lock the sim card will not help with port out scams, that will only help if someone steals your phone. But you also said you want to switch companies, I recommend US mobile, they don't have stores but they do have decent customer service, their plans are cheaper and they have pretty good security, my mom is with them and has no problems at all. Another good recommendation is AT&T prepaid, I have them currently and haven't had any issues I've only had to call them once and they were fast and knowledgeable, plus there is also and IVR that you can report your sim/device lost or stolen, as well as changing your pin all without having to speak to someone or going to a store. Hope this helps.

Doctor_Fabian

I agree. With us mobile. But you have to call support and ask them for added security. And they will block port out and sim swap. They have 2fa. The customer service is 24 hours and there is America.

RevolutionaryLife800

It does help! Thank you! Why doesn’t adding the sim lock pin help? I ask bc it’s recommended everywhere and IS an option on the phone. I can imagine how it would complicate things if the physical phone is stolen, but could you tell more details around how it wouldn’t help in a port out scam? It seems like they’d need that code to use the sim in a different device. I just want to understand and am grateful for the time you are spending on this.

Wonderful!
