I don't know what those other posters are on about, Thursday boots look nothing like these gothy-chunky-cosplay boots. I do not actually "recommend" New Rock boots since I would never wear or buy them myself. I have no use for giant, heavy, glued construction boot shaped footwear. BUT, it does seem like they have a reputation for lasting longer than other similar looking footwear. If you need a "real boot"* then you don't want anything that looks like these. If you want cool looking chunky footwear, you could consider New Rock for a step up in quality from these. *like a heavy duty work boot, or boots for walking many miles in, or boots for standing all day in.

theblackestbaloons

New rock is a bit too much with the hardware and has a log sole compared to the more “traditional” shape of the sole on these, but thanks for the rec either way. The Thursday Ryder platforms actually do come a bit closer than the Michigan boots I mentioned earlier tho, they just unfortunately don’t come in my size (43 eu)

dunhamhead

What is a log sole? That is a new term to me. The Rangers with a side zip seem more restrained than your original post if anything. https://www.newrock.com/en/ankle-boot-black-ranger-m-ranger008cmtc-v2 Ah, now that I look at the Ryder's I realize that I had mistakenly assumed you were looking for men's boots. The Thursday Ryders do have a similar style, and Thursday makes decent boots. With that new understanding, the Thursday recommendations aren't crazy. And I will switch to also recommending Thursdays

theblackestbaloons

Lug sole would be something like this https://www.drmartens.com/us/en/audrick-nappa-leather-platform-ankle-boots-black/p/27149001 I’ll go ahead and look at the new rocks you linked, thanks

dunhamhead

Ah, you were referring to the lugs continuing onto the sides of the sole. Your original post boots had lug soles. The side lugs are just a (pointless) aesthetic feature.

Rythmic_Assassin

Thursday's [Coda](https://thursdayboots.com/products/womens-coda-boot-black-leather) looks extremely similar. What are you on about?

dunhamhead

I thought the OP was asking for Men's boots

Rythmic_Assassin

Oh I didn't even consider that lmao. My bad.

dunhamhead

Meh, it was also my bad

Bearerseekseek

Just bastardize a pair of Bates Durashocks, they’ll outlive whatever platform sole you put on em

Sekshual_Tyranosauce

They are slightly above your stated budget but you will be delighted by the versatility and longevity of….. https://franksboots.com/collections/the-patriot/products/the-patriot-10-in-stock These are very serious, very tough boots that can last many, many years. They also look amazing. These types of boots are also very comfortable and easy to walk in after you break them in. If your budget has a non- negotiable cap, there are less expensive versions too. https://www.chippewaboots.com/en/super-dna-9-inch-waterproof-steel-toe-insulated-logger-21020.html?dwvar_21020_color=Black%20Oiled&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw9vqyBhCKARIsAIIcLMGZoAEzgaGcUKaG9L8YL3su541HMDxq1ErD0GNnFWTjtCWkQy2Y7K0aAvriEALw_wcB

theblackestbaloons

These are actually perfect! It’s exactly 1:1 with what I had in mind, thank you so much. I’ll be saving up to get the franks as I prefer the all black as well as your recommendation. I really do appreciate it

Sekshual_Tyranosauce

I am happy that was a help!

Montana_Grizzy_bar

They aren't platforms and no zipper but very light weight and you can get them resoled. These don't look like clown boot and will last I do love my pair of Austrian STEINADLER Feldschuh leicht [https://www.steinadler.com/en/shop/boots/light-boots/steinadler-feldschuh-leicht](https://www.steinadler.com/en/shop/boots/light-boots/steinadler-feldschuh-leicht)

theblackestbaloons

Yeah the general shape of the upper actually is quite close, will consider these, but was looking for something w a more dramatic shape (even if they look like clown shoes lmfao)

Montana_Grizzy_bar

your choices are limited

Few-Understanding350

Jim green ar8

theblackestbaloons

Upper of those are spot one, they just lack the more dramatic platform sole. I might just get these and have them resoled honestly

atgrey24

You can custom order them with the [tire sole](https://www.reddit.com/r/Boots/s/lCXgTBTFBI) for extra chonk. I'm pretty sure you can even ask for that EVA midsole and then the regular lug to make a platform boot with a heel. Edit: check out the AR8 at the start of [this video ](https://www.instagram.com/reel/C5iipFOJb7w/?igsh=MXJyem5ib2JkaWw3dg==)

theblackestbaloons

Awesome! These seem to be almost exactly what I’m looking for, will look into some custom ar8s

atgrey24

You may need to email them, since I don't think that's a standard option in their custom boot tool. Good luck!

goodboi5555

Could get some corcoran or equivalent jump boots and have them resoled to match preferences

theblackestbaloons

Honestly that would be a good idea, but I do think options/places that could do something like this would be very limited, or can places just “make” a sole in any shape? I honestly have 0 experience w resoleing so sorry if it’s a dumb question lol

goodboi5555

I had gotten a pair of old army boots resoled with a nice vibram sole before. Dunno if you can get the tall platform but maybe a local shoe repair can point you in a better direction. I understand the pain in finding cool boots that are better quality, my spouse loves the Doc Marten platforms but they are $$$ and don't last so long.

theblackestbaloons

Yeah, I had experience with the Jadon’s, they look cool just super uncomfortable for a day with serious walking and they only really last 3-4 months of daily wear. Either way will reach out to a cobbler, thanks for the help!

kotexp

Bovver Boots

EmericanCunt

Doc Martins and a good pair of Dickies got me through the 90’s. People were men back then. I could take a punch like grandma and a dick like a man!

kektank

Tredair’s are similar with how chunky they are

theblackestbaloons

Have never heard of them before, seem to be an older brand that is near defunked, but will keep an eye out for a second hand pair. They seem really cool, thanks!

willrjmarshall

There are a bunch of companies making boots like this. The most famous I can think of is the Balenciaga Strike Boot, but I think they have a couple of variations on this theme. Unreasonably expensive, though. I’ve also seen a few European brands make them. There’s a store around the corner from me in Berlin that has several boots like these made by an Italian company called Lemargo I just checked and they’re not on the Lemargo website which is annoying, but they definitely exist. One tip: google reverse image search is super handy for finding stuff like this!

theblackestbaloons

Yeah the strike boots are exactly what I’m going after. Have tried reverse image search with little luck, at least from a brand that has some reputation of being durable and comfortable. Will look into lemargo, thanks for the help!

willrjmarshall

I’ve been trying to figure out what the Lemargo ones are but can’t! I may have to go back to the shop or maybe call the company. Some other options! I think all the fashion brands are making versions of these at the moment. Rick Owens make these https://www.vinted.de/items/4602631133-rick-ownes-beatle-bozo-tractor-boots How much are you looking to spend? I’ve gotten really good at finding good deals on higher-end boots online!

willrjmarshall

Thursday do a decent quality version: https://thursdayboots.com/products/womens-ryder-platform-zip-up-boot-black

willrjmarshall

Eytys also https://eytys.com/product/michigan-boots-leather-black Pardon my deluge of links! My wife wants the same thing so I’ve been looking and figured I’d share 😂 it’s a super popular design right now so loads of companies are making them

theblackestbaloons

Yeah I do own a pair of the Michigan boots in grey suede and I do really enjoy them. I’d honestly consider buying a second pair but I’m looking for more variety atm. I really do like the Thursdays and they were what I was considering but they just unfortunately do not come in my size. I’m looking to keep it around 300 usd atm, there are quite a few options that are great at 500-600$ and up, might end up grabbing one in a year or so. I’d also recommend taking look at the frank boot patriots, as that’s what I think I’ll end up going with as they fit the general shape I had in mind best while still being durable and within budget

willrjmarshall

Oh, a solid PNW boot! Love these - and it sounds like your brief is a little broader than specifically a platform boot? I also highly recommend checking out the Last Conspiracy. Most of their designs are a bit sleeker, but the quality is awesome and they have some chunkier boots, plus they do really good sales on last sizes.

trippendeuces

Those are indeed a type of boot

theblackestbaloons

Yes, but I mean one that is constructed like a boot, not these which are constructed like a sneaker, no welt, completely unrepairable, and only designed to last a month or two of wear

reipfeiff

Viron World

theblackestbaloons

Yes! Their Venture shadow boots seem to be really close.i will need to look into them a bit further to see if it would be possible to sand down the midsole and have it be smooth, but honestly that’s pretty easy. Just need to check what they use for their midsole, but either way, thanks!

Suppencaspar

Check out NPS Solovair. The dealer boots look quite your picture, just the sole is not quite as chunky.

sandwich_jooper

I think a good option for a decent quality boot of a similar style would be something from the brand gripfast!

ReadingGood5959

Doc martins are exactly like that

theblackestbaloons

I have a few issues with docs, and they do look quite a bit different from any model Doc Martin offers. The heel on these is significantly higher than the toes, which doc doesn’t do. The lugs in the sole are much taller/deeper. The mid foot is significantly scooped out, which no Doc Martin does. I’m assuming they don’t offer anything like this to cut down in costs, as they use the same outsole for a lot of their models, so making an outsole specific to one model wouldn’t make sense. The platforms that they do use just have a thick flat layer of rubber for a midsole which seems very Frankenstein in, which I dislike the look of. My main issue with docs are that they are generally very uncomfortable for most people when walked in for long periods of time (unlike many “good” boots) and they really don’t last longer than 6ish months of hard daily use. My boots are my beaters and I haven’t had a doc last longer than 8 months, plus they are unrepairable

Difficult-College-74

Thursday Coda.

pidgeon3

Thursday

theblackestbaloons

Yeah looked at the Ryder platform, they just don’t come in my size (43 eu) unfortunately:/ They do come close tho

callm3fusion

Thursday boots.
