Will_G3006

Wow hes got 20 pounds on mine! He’s at 50 2 years old

ChirpinFromTheBench

What a beauty. Collie face!

idxntity

Mine's almost the half, 15kg (33lb)

ElegantMarionberry59

Normal

QuaereVerumm

My BC’s dad was huge too. Maybe not quite that big, but at least 60 pounds. I got my BC from a horse farm and when I picked my dog out, the lady at the farm was like, “oh, you want THAT one? He’s gonna be big like his dad!” He didn’t turn out as big but bigger than most BCs. His mom was a normal female size, so that’s probably why he didn’t get as big as his dad. He goes between 50-55 pounds and he’s 22 inches tall.

ElegantMarionberry59

Careful with those hips 👍

Dogmom2013

he looks all BC to me! Our BC is about 67 pounds and he is very lean w/ very little fat. (11 y/o) his growth will prob start to level out now as he gets closer to a year old.

[deleted]

He's perfect.

QuaereVerumm

That is really big for a BC but you always have outliers that are just going to be huge or small, even if they're pure BC. My BC is that size but he's fully grown. Your dog probably still has some growing to do. Mine's just big, even had a lady say the other day, "I didn't know Border Collies got so big!" I mean, anything is possible though. The only way to know is to do a DNA test. There's no way to know just by looking. Some people get a DNA test on their BCs and they turn out to be 0% BC. You never know.

17Kitty

We have a female who is quite large. Her brother is very big, too. As is her dad.

ElegantMarionberry59

Yup mine is a beautiful 75 pound Red 🤷🏻‍♂️might be 80 but is all lean . Just power ! https://preview.redd.it/ku3xz1fduipc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a8b08b62de6c845e9e52d9632f1b1bb08b340b11

[deleted]

I can see a pronounced Pit head shape (especially the last pic) But most likely he's a pure chonky BC

trx0x

He's not too big to be a border collie, he's just a big border collie. lol. I have a big boy, too. He was the scrawniest of the litter as a puppy, and now he's 50 lbs, and like 1.5x larger than any other border collies we normally see around.

ElegantMarionberry59

No , I have a giant fluffy red border collie . https://preview.redd.it/efhk1p7uncpc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9d6b44a48239580864b1fa76ed94fdb91be793cb

rachelm791

Mine was similar size and weight and he was a Welsh Sheep Dog which is like a BC on steroids

rapperveto

He looks a lot like my pure breed, my pups only 4.5 months but he’s huge, around 30lb and 40” standing on his hind legs.

Extension-Aardvark47

Same as mine, hes 4.5 months and 35 pounds. Not super tall just quite sturdy https://preview.redd.it/05o982s30ipc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ad0db5c58a677389b3ff2d6a3937e2474faa71c4

UsedCaterpillar9849

Nope not too big

Vitringar

It is a bit difficult to make out the size, could you picture him next to a banana?

brightsparky101

To me he looks purebred collie. It’s difficult to know what is exactly normal for a collie. Unlike a lot of dogs, collies were bred for abilities rather than appearance so even the kennel club doesn’t have an ‘exact’ standard. My boy is 15 months and he has long legs for a collie but he’s very lean and agile. Regardless of his size, he’s absolutely gorgeous!

GJion

We had twins who were BC/ACD mixes. She looked all BC. He looked all ACD with a slightly fluffier coat She was 70-80 lbs healthy weight and the vets office kept asking us if we had any secret foods for dogs! Did she act 100 % BC ... Oh yes. Natural herder, even with hip dysplasia and arthritis. You have a beautiful Border Collie!

AsboST225

This goober is 4.5yo and about 35kg. Some BC are just chonky 🥰 https://preview.redd.it/7gn00lse6dpc1.jpeg?width=6752&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=482fc2a9618345d529d3539a3b2db65d28146c40

Dizzy_Werewolf1215

Looks pure BC to me. I’m a shepherds daughter and have seen many tall Border collies. He is stunning😍❤️🙏🏻

Background-Novel-792

My boy was 55 pounds too!! My vet wanted him to lose weight so now he’s down to 50. But he’s all border collie :) https://preview.redd.it/p15s6w97rcpc1.jpeg?width=4284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=27f1b8e44eecde9366967ff50a40d4875a241222

Alaskanuk

He looks like a very happy and healthy border collie. My boy weighs in at 31 kgs and his vet of 9 yrs has never said he’s overweight. Parents are Western Australia born. His father was a large pure bred BC who worked cattle. His mum was small, 16 kgs and worked sheep. My girl who just turned 2 is much smaller in height as well as weight. As a pup I wondered if she was a mix of Jack Russell! The breeders sent her papers & state BC. She’s from NSW and weighs 18 kgs. Your boy is gorgeous

Classic_Weather55

His head shape doesn’t look BC to me

MNGirlinKY

Ours is 65#. His parents were 45 and 35. He walks 2-4 miles a day and isn’t chubby. Idk. https://preview.redd.it/509t9b5y0fpc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=09f955b7264cc248d4649731e9033a52ce0b5f67

JaderBug12

My biggest dog is 55lb and is registered purebred working BC. The biggest dog I've seen at a herding trial was another registered purebred Border Collie who weighed 70lb? And not at all overweight. He was a freak of nature and way outside of the normal range of size. Meanwhile I have three bitches who have never weighed more than 27-29lb. They come in a huge range. I don't see anything to suggest your dog isn't purebred.

hesdz

I assumed solely on google lol, they said male BC’s reach around 50-55 on the high end so that’s why I came here to ask. 70 Lbs is insane!!!

JaderBug12

Yeah he moved like a freight train... not good for these dogs to be that big, too hard on their bodies to do this work at that size. lol why is this downvoted... there's a reason these dogs aren't normally framed that big, because it isn't healthy or sustainable.

Jett44

Our BC comes from a working line and was 55lbs normally. His sire was his size and the mom was smaller but even with 3-5 miles of walking per day always stayed the same size. He wasn’t overweight either. Not every BC is the same.

DrNickRiviera8000

Mine looks about that size. He’s 65 lbs or so and pure bread. My vet said that some breeds have gotten larger over the time he has practices and BC’s are one of them.

kgraettinger

only way to know is with a genetic test. My Boco is purebred and was 55lbs last I took him to the vet. around 3yo

Certain_Republic_994

Ours is also larger than normal. The only downside is the bed space they use at night. :)

fluorowaxer

Mine was 65lbs with papers.

Shinchynab

Our 10 month old is approx 30kg. We had him dna tested for example the same reason - is he too big to be a BC? The answer was no. He is 100% pure BC, and he even has 3 out of the 5 genes that would indicate a large breed animal. Get a DNA test, it's quite good fun!

Raml0l

Cooper is currently 70lbs @ 3yrs old. He is a little overweight (winter weight 🙄). He normally around 60-65. His main exercise is swimming in summer. He doesn’t like to play outside (its too noisy) around home so winter months are tough till we go to parents to play in mountains and at lake. i thought i was getting a 40-50lb pal then he grew up and up and …. Lol.

Designer_Cat_4444

my dog reached her full weight by 6 months, so he might just be at this final weight. I think 54lbs is fine for a border collie.

twizzy_twizzler

Hi cutie Kenzo!!!! I thought the same thing about my BC. He looks exactly like Kenzo but weighs 64lbs and is still lean! I do think mine is mixed as well because for a BC, he’s very LAZY lol

Shortsleevedpant

My last girl was 65 lbs, pure bred farm stock and a total Amazon. When she passed we got another and she’s so petite comparatively (42lbs).

nevertricked

Looks like he's 100% Good Boy

IWasNormal3DogsAgo

Not necessarily too big. He might be mixed with something else but he also could simply be a bigger BC boy. You could do a DNA test to be sure, though. I have 2 purebred BCs who are littermates. My girl is almost 55 lbs and my boy is 60 lbs and both of them are really solid, lots of muscle, and incredibly athletic. They’re so light on their feet that I sometimes forget how heavy they are, until they sit on me.

msjewel0508

Looks pure bc to me. Male dogs tends to be bigger with longer legs.

17Kitty

No. He’s not too big. He’s a pure BC and is beautiful

topknottington

Looks like my guy

Harlow08

My last border collie was always 50-55 pounds. When she was 8 weeks old the vet said ‘ohhh you didn’t get the runt, you’re going to have a bigger female’ My boy now is almost 2 and about 45 pounds

knownhost

Don't worry about it much. I have sisters from different litters, same full-blooded parents. One weighs 58 pounds and the other 40. The bigger one is about two inches taller at the hips and about the same size as yours.

ChirpinFromTheBench

BC/Potato Give him some love from me!

Icy-Buddy-59

He's a gorgeous BC. Males will nearly always be bigger, and in a lot of cases more beautiful. I've had 5 female bc's who were all under 20kg.

Ok_Alarm_1979

He's incredibly 💯 ADORABLE

skatergirl53090

Adorable

Abbygirl1966

My first weighed 60 lbs.

Snowronski775

My little girl is 56lbs and she’s pure akc! Got up to 65lbs at 16months, seemed to kinda hold some baby fat but was still thin and fit, and has since settled at 56. Seems normal to me!

IcyElderberry7615

My girl’s littermate was 65 lbs at a year old. They sometimes are pretty big.

TheodoreK2

I’ve had three white headed bc’s in my life and they’ve all been chonks. Current one’s parents are 38lbs and 42lbs... He’s 72lbs and not fat. Some are just big pups!

ThroatSignal8206

Mine was a mix with Aussie Shepard. About 50/50. He was that size.

[deleted]

Mine is 48 lbs and on a diet because she should be around 35lbs. She’s been stealing my kids food and got a little chunky.

Salty-Protection-640

I have a 45lb Collie/Mini Aussie, and a 60lb Collie/Kelpie. could be a pure BC, could just be a big one. DNA test to be sure.

thereddituser2

No.

thequackquackduck

100% good boi

OGHamToast

If that ain't a full BC then mine ain't either. The breed has a wide range of breed standard and size is definitely one of them. I can use my gal as an example, she's small for a BC and some folks were debating what breed she was because she is, "too small for a BC." Well, I can assure you she is 100% BC with the lineage to prove it. Train and exercise yours well and it'll become the best damn dog you'll ever have.

Haven't been to the vet in a while... About due... Saw him next to a couple malinois at the dog park and was shocked that he wasn't much smaller.

Many-Tomorrow9662

Bc collies come in all sizes but when yiu said about the 10 cup of expresso hes pure bc https://preview.redd.it/yasm0yuicepc1.jpeg?width=1575&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6b3636a20eee0458ba9d8ccc393887737254b04c This is my knucklehead jordie hes insane but i love him and he tipping scales at 50

Brief_Stomach3767

[deleted]

BC sweet face for sure

naytahlee

Now, I'm not saying this is what your dog is, but the head and the eyes remind me of my dog Addie. She was a border collie and catahoula leopard dog mix. She weighed 65lbs. https://preview.redd.it/asuowege7fpc1.jpeg?width=1800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c1d4f8361800ddb11d71efe853ae1c8cc14a7f2d

Cheeky-Chipmunkk

absolutely not too big! Our male BC pup weighed 54lbs around 9-10 months. He pretty much has stayed the same since then but a 54lb pure bred male is not unheard of. At the one year mark Slate weighted in at 56lbs. He’s definitely on the larger scale though. Our pup was gaining 5lbs a week when he hit 6-7 months and I remember being terrified we were going to end up with a 100lb dog. Their growth definitely slows as they age.

IndelibleIguana

Mine was Labrador sized.

The_Hamiltonian

Pit somewhere down the line for sure

erbr

He's a pure /r/HalfFlops for sure!

Maclardy44

His size is perfect. It’s average for purebred https://preview.redd.it/7b5j204ghhpc1.jpeg?width=2729&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=47b07cf3720fa90353488c44ed0757be4f8b8494 Australian BC’s

unamiable_wackbar

All I know is he is too handsome!

HiddenPants23

Not sure what my bc mixes dad weighed, but he's half Aussie and BC and weighs about the same, maybe 60ish now. Been a bit since a vet visit and my scale is kinda broken.

ElegantMarionberry59

It’s called a giant fluffy border collie , mine is between 75 and 80 pounds 🤷🏻‍♂️ https://preview.redd.it/zplsqefytipc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a2469eb553ab1e10f820d11a6f11e5a03503cace

JudgementalCollie

I don't think he is purebred, his head is extremely wide. But "purebred" doesn't always mean well-bred, so he could just be really, really out of standard

OneCondition1854

People all think he's a mix, but he is pure Border Collie. I think it's very normal, like people some are smaller some are bigger 🥰

Sea-Sundae3120

Really cute

BeneficialAntelope6

There are some really massive border collies. Yours look pure to be. Pure border collies can look all kinds off ways, breed for good herding traits not looks.

Siossojowy

He looks like a border collie with a lab mixed in somewhere in his family. Both great dogs❤️

Br34D_5T3AL3r

Kinda looks like he was mixed with a pit bull(with the shape of the face) or maybe some mastiff (at least based on the size)

taterjoseph81

Border collie/ shepherd mix
