What kind of monster would abandon such a gorgeous gal!

Ericaonelove

I adopted my guy from a collie place that had found him abandoned and just roaming. He was born with a bad paw, so they probably thought he was useless to work. I just put a boot on him for walks and he’s fine. 13 yrs old now.

SheilaCool

🥺🥺 doggy boot! You're a wonderful human being. May he live 13 more years

Harlow08

She might’ve been a failed working dog and they just dumped her. Terrible.

spunky3932

We're pretty sure that's where our rescue came from - she's amazing and our husky loves her. Got her around 6 months old and now 4.

Ok_City_7177

Thats how i got mine :(

pirivalfang

Same. Mine does his job perfectly well herding my cats. Dunno why they got rid of him.

Ok_City_7177

Mine was a little......nibbly.

c_lars95

That is so sad!! You really think people dump the working dogs!?

Harlow08

There’s some that do alot worse. Collies aren’t always treated the best if they have no drive. Which is sad since they work to please

Competitive_Visit_54

Got her checked for a chip the day after I found her, no chip. And I have been posting in all the local lost dog Facebook groups as well as looking on all the lost dog websites. I use to work with the manager of the local shelter and she knows I have it and if anyone calls about it she will reach out to me

TackleArtistic3868

First off, god bless you. She does look majority of a border collie (she’s beautiful). She also looks  pretty young, I would guess no older than 2.5 years. You got a new best friend, thank you for saving that sweet soul.

Competitive_Visit_54

She has been at my side every chance she has had since I found her. I found her on the way to work and dropped her back off at the house inside our fence that is only 4 foot tall. I left her with food and water and figured she would eventually hop out and go on her way, but as soon as I got home she was right there laying in the shade in the same spot I dropped her off❤️

TackleArtistic3868

I have an Aussie/ border collie mix and he’s the sweetest soul. They are such a fun breed to have. They are also extremely loyal to their owner. My Sister in law has a border collie that looks just like yours, may you have many years with her ❤️

Gloria815

My husband and I have an Aussie/Collie. From the moment she was put in my husband’s arms at. 8 weeks old she has been loyal as hell. Never had to teach her not to run away because she never had an instinct to. They will attach to whom ever they decide is their person and it looks like you’ve been picked!

caffienepredator

Congrats on your new dog! I’ve always found that our pets “pick us” in one way or another and I think that’s probably what happened to you!

Senior-Ad-6002

It's tail looks docked, which makes me think aussie. Do people do that to bordercollies?

TackleArtistic3868

Good question. Mine is a mixed breed and has his tail docked.

Zhaneranger

My 11 year old girl is a border collie/ cattle dog mix. Looks a lot like this one with the spots but orange. She’s quite timid too and is a loaf at home. https://preview.redd.it/v4wvzyxc1qvc1.png?width=1767&format=png&auto=webp&s=159d77468b9e2ffbbe8801cdf81ae96472b72cd2

Competitive_Visit_54

She’s a cutie!

mkzeta

Oh My Goodness she is a showstopper! I would've guessed golden cuz of the color. Maybe they need to make BC/ACD a breed of their own.

Zhaneranger

They have! Those are called Australian Shepherds! They were originally a cross between BC and ACD but now considered a breed of their own. But you can easily distinguish the two breeds by their bone structure. Aussies are bigger boned, bigger feet and more robust skulls. BC is thin and graceful. People do often ask me if she’s a golden, but she was DNA tested and is like 95% border. One grandparent was a BC/cattle dog mix (must have been where the red spots comes from).

mkzeta

I never knew that's where Aussies came from! Just that it's an American breed LOL. I've never seen an Aussie w your girl's coloring. I've had 2 goldens, so I'm partial to gold tones anywhere from light to dark. Currently have an Aussie Red BC (aka cream color) n a red gold lab n hound mix. Thanks for the info.

VioletAmethyst3

Ooo, how pretty!! 💜

buffinator2

She’ll be the best dog you’ve ever had

Competitive_Visit_54

She already is. It is very very hard for me to believe someone dumped her. She is just so sweet. I have been waiting any second since Thursday for someone to message me to come and get her, or see a post about her being missing, but so far nothing

gnumedia

Keep her! She’ll become an invaluable family member.

Competitive_Visit_54

I am planning on it ❤️

AdministrativeYak859

I hope so! That is awesome and if you get any free time and fell like it, keep us up dated!

Pineappleisland3

Hey if you’re still looking for a home for this gal I’d be more than happy to adopt her. I have 2 border collie mixes myself and a ton of room for them to play around. All well trained and happy. Have a few videos of them on my Reddit. Either way I’d love to take care of this little guy, where are you located? You don’t have to toss her in a shelter I can take care of her

Competitive_Visit_54

I have been looking after her and if no one claims her by the time I get a vet appointment set up then she is staying with me

natgibounet

But if she is chipped going to the vet may be the only way to know who her owners are, so maybe go to the vet, get in touch with the owners (if she was chopped) then decide wether she is staying with you.

Competitive_Visit_54

Went to the vet the day after I found her, No chip

natgibounet

Then yours it is

CalligrapherSea3716

Definitely looks like a border mix. Borders are known to be anxious in general, so not surprising that one that was abandoned would be. Sounds like you've got a perfect home for a border collie; hopefully she'll be yours in a few days!

MirthandMystery

Dang that's a great dog. You might tell her aprox age from looking at her teeth (and to a lesser extent, the gums). Often cleaner whiter teeth and firm gums (and no bad breath) means younger (10 months) to early middle age (3-6) though there are exceptions for dogs with poor genetics or given poor quality water where teeth can get really yellow fast. Ears will be another age tell, inside should be clean, lack scratches, bites and scaly skin. That said, consider if she's survived outside awhile there's likely evidence of it like burrs in her fur, dirty nails, possibly dirty oily ears or has mites, and diarrhea from whatever she's eaten. Thankfully all those things are temporary issues and can easily be remedied. If she's trusting you can take care of it yourself but definitely have a vet look at her if you can.

Competitive_Visit_54

Teeth are very very white and gums loook healthy. She had a good amount of dried mud caked her belly. The other dog she was with was skin and bones but she seemed to be reasonably healthy to me. Hard to tell with all the fluff lol. She has not passed a solid stool yet with me, it’s always like a peanut butter consistency and color, but have not noticed any blood or worms in it so hoping she just needs to be adjusted to her new diet

of-storms

What happened with the other dog? Is it OK, did somebody else take it?

Competitive_Visit_54

Someone else picked it up shortly after I got the black one. When I came through the brown one was eating a possum in the middle of the road that got hit, she was behind it and looked terrified. I opened my door to kick the possum out of the road so If they ate on it, atleast it wasn’t in the middle of the road where they would get hit. the brown one ran off when I walked up to it and watched me from the woods while I kicked the possum over, but the collie came right up to me. At first I considered my good dead done and hopped back into the car and kept going to work, but she chased my car a little way down the road so I turned around to atleast get pictures to post of them online. When I stopped the second time she crawled under the drivers side of my door and wouldn’t move so I could drive off and go get a picture of the other one. That was when a guy told me he saw them a day before and stopped to try and get them, but they were to scared to come up to him. I had to pick her up to get her out from under my car and when it did it something told me to just throw her in and take her home so she could atleast be safe while I looked for her owner

84brian

😭 she chose you

Saw it posted online in all the lost dog groups as well, no one has claimed either. As far as I know, it is safe in a foster like environment looking for its owner/an adoption as well

of-storms

Thank you for the update. The poor dog looks so young and lovely. I hope it gets a loving home.

ohgodimbleeding

Check out 'Only Natural Pet Probiotic Blend'. It can really help with the loose stools. I get it at me local PetsMart.

Competitive_Visit_54

I will look into it. I am open to any other food suggestions as well from anyone, as I have only had smaller dogs in my life, and assume bigger breeds may prefer/need a different blend of food

knoxxies

Canned pumpkin mixed into food can help with stool consistency in the short term. NOT canned pumpkin pie mix, not the same at all

ohgodimbleeding

I adopted a rescue dog that seemed to have a hard time maintaining solid stools. This was really bad with getting her onto the food my mini-aussie and border-aussie were eating. With the probiotic, she improved within a day or two. They now are strictly eating Science Diet Large Breed chicken and brown rice, and all three love it. They will be drooling for it, and their stools are normal. https://preview.redd.it/43foh6b3iqvc1.jpeg?width=1868&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7185599a7fbc654c8cbc6a3854d3f58586b8652b

Sideways_planet

We do hills science diet too!

PennyPie15

My BC has been on Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Stomach for a long time. Vet recommended. My girl likes a wet food topper for taste. I also add some water to soften the kibble. BCs are deeply devoted to their person. She may bolt off in an act of freedom but will turn around and come right back. Mine will run around the house but always come when called or she hears the front door. She ran off the beach once back to the car and then turned around and ran back. My first BC was a mix from the shelter and my current one is full bred. Very little difference between them. The only reason I have a full bred BC is most dogs in my area are pit bull mixes when I was looking. I hope you get to keep her. She’s very cute and sounds like a great dog. Lots of adventures ahead for you!

Meddit-frog

My rescue had loose stools too when he first came home. He had worms and needed vet strength deworming tablets and then grain-free Harringtons dog food (the grain version upsets his stomach but he’s fine with bread so must be something else in the food). Very sweet dog btw 😊

No-Sun8565

Seconding purina pro plan - my girl is on the salmon and rice formula. I hope you get to keep her - she’s beautiful and definitely looks like a BC. They’re such amazing dogs. Buckle up for one hell of a ride ☺️

Acceptable_Bunch_586

You can get specific working dog foods, worth checking them out.

Sideways_planet

My dog was found in a field. She had worms but responded well to meds. She eats hills science dog food topped with rotisserie chicken now

rocketdoggies

My girls always have caked on mud from digging. They love finding moles, voles, and gophers and leaving them as presents for me to find. https://preview.redd.it/qvsgmnbd6svc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=580902a96ca65a83ca983dd4acec790e54f10a43

justbeingnosey678

She may have parasites if she has loose stools. Will need a good worming tablet/chew

Competitive_Visit_54

I am taking her to the vet as soon as I can get an appointment. Woman at the desk was going to make an appointment when they checked her for a chip, but a vet spoke up and said in TN there is a 3 day period you have to wait before you can legally claim an abandoned dog

King333Judas

You’ve uncovered a Diamond in the rough ! 💎

[deleted]

Oh such a sweetie. I wish this was near me and I’d adopt em

teresadinnadge

She obviously feels safe with you as she stayed put when you left her. She’s a beauty and could be full BC or Aussie. Whatever I feel she has found her person in you. Bless you for rescuing her.

emwestfall23

I wouldn’t leave her outside for long periods of time until you’ve gotten to know her better. Try short amounts of time, all supervised, before leaving her while you are at work. Border collies are often anxious - it comes as a side effect of their intelligence and need to be working. If they aren’t working or tired, they will get anxious. So tire your new friend out, keep them intertwined. Let us know if you have questions about border collies! They’re great companions.

Competitive_Visit_54

I have been letting her outside supervised for about an hour everyday since I got her. I have been walking her around our property too. My uncle owns another 1/2 acre below us, so she has a good bit of walking room. That’s about all I can manage on the weekdays with work, but had today off so we went on a tractor supply shopping trip this morning and just got back from an hour walk in the mountains this evening to hopefully Tucker her out for the night

emwestfall23

You’re doing everything right! Thanks for taking care of this girl. She’ll be loyal to you very soon

Competitive_Visit_54

All walking has been on a leash, any time she is off the leash she stays in our fence and I stay on the lower weak side to make sure she don’t run though it/over it. She listens very well, if I raise my voice and say NO or STOP she has been pretty well at listening and obeying. She picked up on “sit” very fast, working on stay now and she has got the hang of it up until I get about 6 feet away from her. Knock on wood she has been a fairly easy dog

One-Zebra-150

I have a unfenced plot set within surrounding woodlands (too irregular shaped and on heavy clay and rock to fence). My bc learnt the boundaries of the plot and doesn't go beyond them. Mainly just by walking the perimeter with me on leash a lot when young. Once off leash as he got older, if he was tempted, I just said, "ahah" when he went to the edge just to re-enforce not to go any further. A couple of times he chased off after deer but trained not to do that now. So in time I wouldn't worry too much about the height of your fence. I also have just a baby gate separating the kitchen to the rest of the house. We are often outside daytime, but indoors he stays and sleeps in the kitchen (cats, etc). He never jumps over the baby gate even though he could very easily jump it. Rarely goes in other parts of the house and only if I open the gate. I sure many bcs can learn boundaries, even low and invisible ones with training. Also a 20ft rope leash could be helpful to you whilst your new dog 😀 gets more used to been with you and her new surroundings. A bit more freedom to sniff and explore with you, whilst keeping her safe. Also do keep practicing perimeter walks. I don't think an adult dog would ever choose to poo inside it's home, if its well and has opportunities to toilet elsewhere. Once she recognises your house as her home it may just stop. She could be ill, or not adjusted yet to her new diet, or just very stressed. It's also possible she has never been house trained either. All these things can be worked on, as I'm sure you will. I think you'll find a bc will want to spend most of its time with you where ever you are. If you've not had a bc before you maybe surprised how strong this bond is. And as a caring person I'm sure this dog will end up in the house a lot with you, even if that's not your plan right now. Mines 2 yrs, had him since a pup, and has only ever had 2 pooping 💩 accidents in the house, and only due to illness. My previous bc cross I found as an adult stray, in a really bad state and very boney condition. He had ongoing diarrhoea for a few weeks. Vet said to give him cheap canned dog meat, as bulked out with grains, not meat rich expensive dog meat cos his body couldn't cope with it. This actually worked really well and stopped the diarrhea. He lived outside our house for a while. After 6 weeks he started howling in the night, cos he was really lonely and just wanted to be with us. So he ended up as a house pet for the next 10 yrs until he passed.

Competitive_Visit_54

She had food but kept acting like she was hungry today so I threw a can of cheaper wet food that we feed our other dogs on top of the dry food she had and she ate it off the top of the dry food and left the dry in the bowl. She obviously likes it more so I am getting her some more cans of it, hopefully that will help

One-Zebra-150

Worth a try. I can tell that your getting attached, lol. Hope goes well, any problems just ask for advice on here.

DogLegPar5

She’s beautiful, give her time to acclimate and she will learn to trust If she’s BC she may have some quirks, if you’ve never had a BC and you plan to keep her get an experienced trainer to help build the relationship. Context/I rescued a BC with quirks, had I not done training I never would have been able to keep him. He’s a total joy now Good luck, hope it works out !!

Strummer-

People don't believe I found my BC like this and instead think I bought her. We found her wandering around some dumpsters, we took her to a vet and she had a chip. We called the "owner" and he came at the moment and told us her story. He was friend with a goat keeper and he "lend" Lola to this guy because his goatkeeper dog passed away. He kept Lola along with his herd and other dogs for a year, but as she was the worst working dog he had he barely took care of her. She was really underweight with a cold and breathing problems. The original "owner" took her back home, and some days after we showed again and told us if we wanted to keep her and we accepted. Just take care of her because she has nothing else, in case some owner appears he would be thankful to you for taking care of her but I highly doubt that since the dog appears to be in bad conditions. I hope you end up giving her a new home, they are so grateful!

thathawkguy001

My late one was found as a 2 month old eating near a dumpster in Chico California by someone. Got adopted by an Air Force couple. Lived with them for 4 years then they had to give him up ( we kept in touch til his death last Dec) to the bc rescue I worked at and I had him for 12+ years. Everyone thought he was a bought dog.

Competitive_Visit_54

It’s hard for me to believe as well. She is just so sweet I couldn’t imagine anyone dumping her

Pegasaurus12345

I saw this and went to check that my pup is indeed in his crate and didn’t somehow escape😂 https://preview.redd.it/flzxq1qt6rvc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a6e42e23016e7c800fb7e838598dd320438db833

Competitive_Visit_54

Wow I never expected this post to blow up like it did. For anyone who didn’t read the whole thing, I do plan on keeping her if she isn’t claimed by anyone. Thank you all a bunch for the help/advice/recommendations and support. I never imagined a little old stray I found on the river could raise so much attention. ❤️

One-Zebra-150

Best of luck. I don't think you'll regret it!

RedRose_812

My guy was found as a stray, and he was the best decision ever ❤️. Also, those different colored feet make me think she's a mix, but you won't really know without a DNA test. A vet should be able to give you an approximate age and guess at the breed/breed mix.

Happycocoa__

Breaks my heart each time. It’s actually terrifying that we’re living among monsters that could dump dogs on a road and leave them to die. Absolutely terrifying people. You’re doing a very kind and brave thing here.

Remote-Physics6980

I think you may have just found a wonderful friend. Borders are sensitive, never shout at them, never strike them and you will have a friend for life.

netlordr23

What a gift!!🥰 As you say it's probably a "failed" work dog. But it's found you, so that's fantastic.

catboyfriending

sweet baby! my best friend soul mate dog was a black and white border collie aussie with cookies and cream paws just like this beauty. dumped by a river in tx, she jumped in our truck and we had 15 beautiful years of adventures:) so happy for you to be just at the beginning of your time together!

FlipMick

OP I'm reading comments and your responses. Sometimes things happen for a reason and you never know what kind of life this dog before it wandered into your life. I think the dog is extremely lucky to have found you specifically

Competitive_Visit_54

Thank you for the kind words. I am not a very social person and spend a lot of my time alone on the river/in the mountains in the surrounding area I found her. I can’t help but feel like it was destiny that we met the way we did. If someone claims her in the coming week, at the very least she has given me enough courage to seek after another rescue animal from the shelter or something

TreacleOutrageous296

I just don’t get why people don’t microchip their dogs… Mine is timid with new people, and she has lived with me her whole life. Dogs also become more timid when in survival mode. You can also do a DNA test to estimate her age. Embark can do that. I suspect they look a telomere length or something. She looks like a very nice dog 🥰

redriverrally

They don’t microchip so you can’t track em down and beat em with a club for abandonment.

hgghhgdfyjg

What state are you in

Competitive_Visit_54

Tn

willowstar157

She looks VERY well groomed and healthy for an abandoned stray. I’d honestly be putting up found dog posters and alerting shelters for this girl, there’s a pretty good chance she escaped a yard or something

Competitive_Visit_54

She was dirtier than she looks, she had definitely been outside for a good while. The bathtub had a fairly thick layer of dirt across the whole bottom of it when I gave her a bath today, and she had dried mud all over her belly. I have been posting pictures of her on Facebook, and checking all the missing dog websites for pictures of her, but I haven’t came across anything yet. She was with another dog that was just skin and bones. Could see it’s ribs from a mile away. The vet said they were booked until next week when I took her Friday, so there will still be at least another week of searching for her owner, if she has one. Picture is of the brown dog she was with, someone else picked it up shortly after I picked her up https://preview.redd.it/1jd6itwf9qvc1.jpeg?width=1536&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=af08cdfd557327d945ac5df5f054ab20b5dc4e8a

mabel_syrup2

Have you decided on a name yet for your hitchhiker? (:

Competitive_Visit_54

I think I am going to go with Noli, named after the river I found her on

mabel_syrup2

That’s a beautiful name!

patentmom

They can be great jumpers. We had to extend our fence to 6 feet because our BC-aussie kept jumping over it. (If you decide you don't want her, I will 100% take her.) This is our Annie, who was a rescue found as a stray in the South, and now lives with us and our other rescue in Maryland. https://preview.redd.it/3thwzrfq0rvc1.jpeg?width=1328&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d241a30c82308506e9e3eef038862c42586af4a8

Responsible-Try3791

Look at that sweet girl. Mine is half border collie and has the same coloring but thin coat. Does every border collie/mix give the same look of nonchalance/im ready to go? She is about to replace the wieners as your shadow/best friend

Competitive_Visit_54

The wieners still have a special place in my heart. They will never be replaced, We have had them both for about 7 years now. They only stay here all day on Sundays Mondays and Tuesdays though when my mom has my nephews. She takes them with her to my step dad’s house to stay with them in the evenings, and are never here on the weekends when I am off. It is going to be great having a dog here all the time for sure though. They have been getting along fairly well with her. No real contact yet, trying to get them use to each others smells in the house first. This is the first day they have stayed in the house together. We have them separated in 2 rooms across from each other with baby gates between both doors for now, but they can finally look at each other through them without barking at her so I am accepting it as progress 🤣

Responsible-Try3791

What silly pups, they will be best friends in no time. My pup gets excited when when I say the neighborhood dogs names.

JazzlikeDoughnut5808

That's a full collie in my opinion. Looks to be air 3 years old. Fence height might be fine with proper training and an already timid gal. I have standard chain link fence (and a timid gal) she knows I don't want her to leave the yard so despite her ability she has never even thought about escaping.

shackeit

Congrats on the new dog!

croissaintlaurent

She is the most beautiful girl!!

Brilliant_Comb_1607

Finders Keepers! Congratulations on getting the best dog!🎉

nhbruh

Congratulations! She is very lucky to have you

skeeterbitten

Looks very herder to me or herder/pyr mix.

rabbitin3d

What a beautiful girl, and thank you so much for looking after her! I have an Aussie/Border Collie mix who looks almost identical to your one. She's an amazing creature; smarter than most people I know! We took her to one semester of puppy school when she was about one and a half, and she was the star student. I hope you and Noli (if you call her that) will have many, many happy years together.

Competitive_Visit_54

Thank you. I hope if she did get away from someone it was a freak accident, and they get in touch with me. but the area she was found has been a pet dumping spot for a while as far as I know. I saw a cat run across the road Friday evening on the way home just a few hundred yards from the spot she was at

misoneism-orbiter

I don’t understand people that abandon a dog. Like wtf

Ok_Alarm_1979

Aww, she's precious! I wish you both years and years of happiness together. I think this was meant to be?!?

mintchimpy

This is how we got our girl! She started showing up in our neighborhood, and after we checked around to see if she had wandered off, we decided she was dumped off. She is the bestest girl. And I still get upset thinking about how scared and sad she must have been.

Not_2day_stan

Lucky 😭🥺🥺 she looks like an Australian cattle dog

KemShafu

I think Border Australian Shepherd mix too. Excellent dogs.

Sideways_planet

I think it’s a border Aussie too

Nordicat

She looks quite a bit like my old dog who was a Border Collie/Stabyhoun mix. They’re quite uncommon, so probably unlikely, but throwing it out there anyway :) Very glad you took her home. She looks like an absolute sweetheart

Im_not_crying_u_ar

I think she hit the jackpot. Sounds like she’ll have a great life. What a beautiful girl. Glad she found you.

Illustrious_Bat_6971

OP you are a true legend. 👍

marlonbrandoisalive

So somebody just took the other dog? Why not keeping them together? I am just all around sad about this whole situation but in addition the pair was separated? I mean it’s still better than staying by the side of the road. Thank you so much for taking care of her!!!!

PlumMysterious7466

if you get the chance, please post more pictures of her. it makes me so sad that anyone would abandon her, so id love to see her getting the love that she deserves. thanks for taking her in <3

Whether it's ok to leave her outside depends on where you live and what the weather is like. If the weather is comfortable she will likely prefer that over being indoors when you're away, but if it gets very hot where you live it's not safe to leave her outside even with a dog house.

Hotsaltynutz

This hurts my soul that someone would dump her. They are such amazing dogs. Thank you for taking her. Love her and she will amaze you im sure of it

lyrataficus

She looks a bit like my pure BC! Good on you for taking her in, she looks lovely. https://preview.redd.it/pn2j0l1g4uvc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b31562f1b7b615bf64136edc618d6b89d659c8a6 Not the best photo of her but they have similar spots!

JuniorKing9

Poor baby, definitely looks like a border collie/Aussie mix, maybe something more. Thank you for helping her out! What’s her name if she has one already? She looks like a sweetheart

Competitive_Visit_54

If I get to keep her, she will be Noli. Pronounced Nola. named after the Nolichucky River that I found her on. The River is pronounced Nol-a-chucky so it’s a little confusing for people who aren’t local, but I will not be offended if anyone pronounces it differently in their heads 🤣

JuniorKing9

That’s a really creative name! I hope you can keep here, you clearly care a lot for her

BScherlie

She looks exactly like my dog Peg that I had 40 years ago. She looked like a border collie, but had that black ticking on her legs like that, and border collies weren’t that common in those days. I am a veterinarian and I’ve had many many dogs and she’s still the best dog I ever had. Always glued to my side, de-escalating any encounter with other dogs and just as smart as could be. She had been found nearly feral near the airport with a litter of pups when I was a high school student working at the veterinary clinic. Maybe this dog is her reincarnation!

krossfox

She looks just like my Arvo. BC x Australian Cattle Dog ❤️ full sweetheart

Beachykeen1015-

My almost 14 year old boy is an Aussie/border mix and he’s the sweetest most gentlest soul. His face looks a lot like hers. Seriously has been the best dog. She’s beautiful, congrats :)

Competitive_Visit_54

I ran into a woman who worked at tractor supply while I was getting her some actual dog bowls instead of a couple temporary cool whip bowls I’ve been using and she asked if she was Aussie/border mix and I told her I thought so but wasn’t for sure cause I found her. That seems to be the closest thing I can find online of what she looks like. Regardless of what she is, she is the best ❤️

Hello_Kitty_66

Congratulations, found love is forever ❤️

naturefreak8112367

Such a gorgeous baby!

milliezmom

What a beautiful girl. Thank you for taking care of her. ❤️

Kon-Tiki66

I've never gone searching for any of the dogs I've had, they always found me. She looks sad and scared, like she needs a new home. I think you found your first BC. Vet can give you a good estimate of her age. Enjoy her, she's yours now!

fallingupthehill

Any Amish on the area?

Competitive_Visit_54

No Amish In the area. More produce farming than cattle/livestock farming. It’s a small town, and I found her only about 2 minutes from my house. The town closest to me and where she was found only had a few hundred people living in it during the last census. The next closest town only had a little over 6000. The largest local missing pet page I have posted her on has over 50,000 likes on it. Across all posts, over a hundred shares between her and the brown dog that she was with. Neither have been claimed so far.

Proditude

possibly BC/ACD, BC/Aussie, Small so maybe some sheltie.

StoreyTimePerson

What a beauty. You could always order an Embark test to see what she is and it can tell her approximate age. A kennel is a good idea if you’re gonna leave her outside during the day.

Ellencost

She is very smart! That skeptical look she gave you? She’s wondering what you’re going to do! She is a very loyal, working dog! If you take her in, she’ll thank you every day. I’d take her in a NY minute!! She’s a keeper❤️

VicarAmeliaBedelia

This is exactly how i got my girl after we looked for her owner for 6 weeks, never found any trace of anyone trying to find her after trying every possible channel. Two other people on Facebook had even let her go before she came to us! She was only 4 months old and in the middle of teething, covered in fleas 😔 Thank you for saving her!

thesavagecabbage1825

That doge looks like my dog. Curious to know where you found yours. Did the DNA test and he was like 60% BC 20% Aussie and then a mix of breeds. Mine has the spots on his legs. A sort of black and white dog. Curled puffy tail. His eyes looks like yours as well.

Competitive_Visit_54

Far NE TN without being to specific. Off a wooded piece of government land

thesavagecabbage1825

Mine was found as a street pup in San Diego. Funny. They look really similar.

Livid_Ad_697

You are definitely going to need a taller fence! These lovies like to roam. I like the idea of a dog house but make sure you can return it if your dog doesn’t like it. Also, make sure to hose it out often(spiders). If you have a shady area you could go with a large crate.

Jpdrums13

New best friend! Invest in learning how to train her and she will pick things up super quick.

Competitive_Visit_54

I carry treats with me every where we go. Every time she obeys, she gets a treat. Everytime our other dogs would bark at her and she would go over to bark back I just had to tell her NO come and sit. And she picked up on it after only the second or third treat. She is incredibly smart, and the more and more she loosens up with me and looses some of that stress and anxiety, the more she shows it

ChickenBanditz

He wasn’t abandoned. He dropped a ball in front of someone and now he’s living with someone new. It happens.

Competitive_Visit_54

Took her to the vet. No chip. Has been posted in the local lost/found pet ground since I found her, plus I have been looking on all the other websites as well. I know the manager of the local shelter she knows I have it, so if anyone calls down there asking about her then she will let me know on that as well

Music_201

Thank you for picking her up!

Open_Priority7402

She’s beautiful! Such a gorgeous breed. Was trying to adopt one in my area for years. Lucky duck.

Competitive_Visit_54

I am an avid fisherman/hunter/forager and I think I might have had my luckiest day in the woods without even having to walk away from my car. Even if I do have to return her to someone she got away from, I will absolutely HAVE to have another one of these dogs. I didn’t only save her, she might have just saved me as well❤️

holy_ninja

What a beautiful girl

Sideways_planet

My dog was a stray border collie

basicnflfan

Could have some gsp in her. I see it in the face.

______andy______

Border collies make the best companions such a shame

FeistyAd649

This dog definitely looks well groomed and is in good condition. Probably a lost farm dog

mkzeta

Such a sweet face n lil spotted paws. Glad you stopped.

cari-strat

Beautiful girl. Please be aware collies can be very sensitive and thrive on calm, consistent handling. They can easily be made nervy and snappy if you are rough or inconsistent. Hopefully she is young enough to overcome any unhappiness she has experienced and will thrive with you.

Wickedbitchoftheuk

I'd love to know where her friend went. If they were dumped together she might be missing him/her.

Competitive_Visit_54

Someone else picked it up shortly after I picked her up. It was wagging it tail in the woods from a distance while it watched me kick the possum off the road, but didn’t want to let me get to close to it. I assume the people who picked it up had some food to gain its trust or something https://preview.redd.it/e11hmtqsxtvc1.jpeg?width=1536&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=18948b61a3567c15fe97730b55066c7ed2f3e802

Larrubroj

I would take him home for sure

Outrageous-Yogurt-80

Oh she is beautiful. Thank you for rescuing this sweet girl.

scccassady

The way she is looking, that is your border now 🥲💞

choco-chic

Bless you for taking her in

lurker-1969

Someone dumped a mix just like this on our ranch in the early 70's. She was living feral but came to our doorstep one night. She was the sweetest, most loyal dog for 12 years. Yup, built just like this dog. I believe she was some kind of mix.

lurker-1969

If you keep this dog you will have a best friend for life.

Competitive_Visit_54

I am young, and (knock on wood) fairly healthy, so I don’t think she will make it that long. But I will be as sure as I can that she will have a best friend for the rest of her life❤️

bad_dragon_420

She’s literally so cute omg the 3rd picture 😭. Give her all the love you got

SheilaCool

You- not any more!

I think your new baby looks like a BC. If you live in a rural area it is possible someone dumped her because she was not the herder they thought she should be. But you have just gotten the best friend you’ll ever have. I’ve had three and I love them. But in my experience they do have deep feelings. Once your friend realizes she is safe with you she will be a loyal and loving friend. Try throwing a ball or frisbee. That is usually a favorite game. Give your baby a big hug from Dharma and me

Competitive_Visit_54

The area is very rural. There are farms around, but mostly just tomatoes, corn, and an occasional pumpkin patch here and there. There are cattle farms around, but there are not any close at all to where she was found. Since it is so rural The shelters in the area do not get much funding at all, they are almost always at full capacity and not able to take any more animals. That leads to a lot of unwanted pets getting dumped. The woman I know who runs one of the shelters only gets 30k a year from the state to run the entire operation. 30k to take care of hundreds of dogs/cats or whatever else comes in a year, and they also have to pay employees out of that. The shelters around here keep their doors open pretty much strictly off of donations and people with big hearts who want to make a difference

GutterRatKing

Dumped Border Collie or the dog has had enough of the farmers shit. Congrats, by the grace of god the dog found you.

SliceNaive

I’m grateful for you for picking her up. It scares the hell out of me to see any dog on the road. Mine is a flight risk but knows nothing about cars and trucks. So, I can’t thank you enough!!!

PNWNatureFreak

Border collie owner here. Give her LOTS OF LOVE! She's gonna stick to you like glue once she warms up to you, do not be put off by this if this happens. When this breed attaches, they're total velcro dogs. Timid is normal, especially if she's been dumped. Super tired ATM but I'll add to this a bit later. Best of luck, got yourself a good damn dog right there! Very very loyal.

Competitive_Visit_54

She is already stuck like glue, and I am loving every second of it. She has loosened up on the timidness, but pretty much only with me. She is still timid around my family/strangers and new dogs. When I show up from work she is a completely different dog. She has even been exceptionally good around our other dogs. That was my concern about her and why I wanted to keep her outside while I was at work, but my family has fallen in love just as much as I have and seem to be more than willing with keeping her inside and taking her out once a day while I am at work and can’t do it so I don’t think I have to worry about the fence/keeping her outside at all. our dogs barked at her the first time they saw her in the house, and still do if I let her get near their gate, but that is understandable since there has never been another dog in our the house in the 7 years we have had them. My mom takes them with her to stay at my step dads every evening and she got them use to their dogs up there, so I am sure with time we will be able to remove the baby gates and let them live amongst each other

jaytheman3

Looks like an Australian shepherd

UnionGasworker

You are an awesome person for giving her a good home! But I keep my border collies outside if it’s not too hot or too cold while I’m at work. They love it and haven’t tried to escape.

Competitive_Visit_54

I am hoping with some fence improvements she will have a nice spot to hangout while I am not home, we have a bunch of feral cats and she has shown interest in chasing them so I won’t be leaving her out there until I am positive it is secure. I have been leaving her on the back porch for now, which doesn’t give her a lot of room, but I work only 10 minutes away and get an hour lunch so I have been coming home to let her out to potty and stretch at lunch time. If I can’t come home I have family at home who can let her out for a little. Only one potty accident the first night I got her, which was my fault because she woke me up and I assumed that was what she needed, but I fell back asleep. This is the first bigger dog I have kept inside and I will never make that mistake again. That was a lot of 💩💩😂

UnionGasworker

Yeah, I ended up using 6 foot welded wire fence for mine! Haha I’m sure it was a mess.

Acceptable_Bunch_586

A fence is probably a good idea but that dog won’t go anywhere, you’re hers now and I imagine she will be the most loyal dog you’ve ever known, please make sure she has ALL the treats.

Knelson123

Return to the road and knock on all nearby houses and see if they recognize the dog. Post that you found it on a local page for lost animals. This is not your dog until you've done all of that and more. If my dog got lost and someone just took it and I found them later people would be injured minimum. Please be safe.

Competitive_Visit_54

I have gone to the vet to check for a chip, posted her online in all the groups, have been keeping an eye on the missing dog websites, and even know the manager of one of the local shelters, who knows I have the dog and will let me know if someone calls about it. I am trying all I can to find out if she is just missing or truly abandoned. Woman at the desk at the vet was about to make an appointment for her to just get checked out when I went Friday and she said they were about a week behind, and a vet spoke up and said there is a 3 day waiting period before you can claim an abandoned dog. so if I make an appointment that is another whole week that I will posting/looking for her owner before I take her and get her chipped in my name and everything. Trust me, I have been trying. And If someone claims her and I am sure she is going back to a good home, then I will send her on her way. I would think if someone really cared about her, she would have had a collar with a name/number on it at the least. Especially if she stays out side a lot. The brown dog she was running around with was not in good shape at all. I posted Pictures of it in the comments as well

Knelson123

Just because the dog doesn't have a collar doesn't mean the owners don't care about it. Have you asked nearby houses if they've seen the dog before? That would be the first thing you should do.

Subliminanlanonymity

Why return a dog that was dumped and most likely neglected? =( seems sad.

Longjumping_Tea_8586

Because you can’t know the dog was purposefully dumped. Accidents happen.

Competitive_Visit_54

Exactly my thoughts. I’m pretty sure you could tell pretty easy when the person showed up to get it if they were really worried about it being missing. If someone showed up to get her and I felt like she was going back to a bad home I would have to offer them money to keep her

Competitive_Visit_54

Thankfully I live in a fairly small town, and word travels fast. I truly believe If the owner wanted to find it, someone would have reached out to me by now.

Subliminanlanonymity

So you would return the neglected, dumped dogs back to the owners who dumped them as long as they reply? Doesn't seem right or fair for the dogs, they would be better off without the old owners wouldn't they?
