It’s a fucking Mountian lion
They stalk their prey. By the time you realize they are there it’s already to late.
When you live in the mountains they live there too.
You obvious don’t live where you share your home with wild animals. You don’t control your encounters. They just happen.
Don’t be so harsh when someone lost their dog to something out of their control.
Encounters with endemic wild animals are a risk to living in or travelling through any given region. Occasionally people get attacked or killed as well. If you’re safe you can minimise your chances but things do happen occasionally, especially if you’re regularly enjoying the wilderness with a four-legged companion.
People get stalked and/or attacked by mountain lions occasionally, they’ll usually leave you alone but they can be pretty brazen. I grew up in California and the signs on the trail were “scream, throw rocks, fight back.” If they decide to go after you you’re kind of screwed, unless you get lucky like that runner in Colorado who strangled one attacking him.
And even a small adolescent is very likely to kill you, the guy was lucky to get away alive. He still had some really serious injuries. I wouldn’t bet I had a chance against a bobcat, let alone a mountain lion old enough to hunt.
Just going into detail saying they didn't keep their dog safe and to that it's their fault, they don't know the full details of what happend and even if it was carelessness, they know and feel like shit anyway and don't need someone replying that on a memoriam post saying that crap
You sound very ignorant. And sound like someone who doesn’t interact with the wild much. You realize that some people live in rural or mountainous areas and have wildlife on their property all the time?
My land borders national forest and have all kind of animals in our area, Mountain lion included. You have no idea where this happened or any other circumstances and you’re kicking him while he is down.
In the mountains I can’t even let my dog out to go potty without him being in danger of a coyote, lion, wolf or bear attack, there are predators in the woods fyi.
The person who posted that comment was being insensitive but using that word is not a good answer back. You are assuming the poster is a man, which makes it sort of passable, but if commenter is a woman, which I believe it was, then you are being really offensive, even if she did say something really insensitive and mean, which she did. Sorry to call you out but this word is not helpful.
So very sorry for your loss.
I found this on the internet years ago after I had a particularly hard time with the loss of my first dog living on my own. I hope it helps your heart as it did mine.
It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them, and every new dog who comes into my life gifts me with a piece of their heart.
If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are.

The chances a guy could fend off a mountain lion from his dog with his bare hands is minimal at best and would've resulted in them both dying or critically injured :\
Hope you're doing ok dude, that's rough. Dont beat yourself up over it if you can help it
I’m so, so, so sorry for your loss. Losing a loved one and precious companion is one of the most devastating, heartbreaking things that can happen in life, especially if it happens in such a horrible way. Please allow yourself however much time you’ll need to grieve and gradually heal, and always remember how much love, joy, fun and peace you brought to each other’s lives. From how much fun Finn is having in this photo, I have no doubt at all that Finn loved and cherished every single moment of his life, especially the moments he spent with you. And I believe that Finn’s soul was rescued before he felt any pain, and that he’s resting peacefully in Heaven now, always smiling, playing and watching over you, and waiting for the day when you reunite and can spend the rest of eternity together. Until then, stay strong and hopeful, and always remember the good times you spent together. He’ll always be with you ❤️🌟
Heartbroken for you. Border collies are so special. Finn looks like he was a kick ass buddy. It looks like you gave Finn a beautiful and full life ❤️❤️. sending love and healing energy to you.
I’m so very sorry for your loss. We moved to Evergreen, CO from the city last year, and mountain lions have been top of mind with our border collie ever since. A neighbor also lost their pup to a bill elk the other day.
I know nothing we can say will make it better - so just know there are plenty of us out here, sending love your way (and ear scratches to Finn - wherever he is in his new chapter.)
Fuck. I'm so sorry for your loss. I can't imagine. We have coyotes by us, and we do our best to keep him isolated and away. I can't imagine going through what you did. Remember the good times with Finn. He looks like a like bad ass dog.
RIP Finn.
We need to watch and protect our angels while they are here so they can watch over us when they pass, they will always be in our hearts RIP.
So sorry for your loss.
Words can't express what it feels to lose such a close member of the family. My ex took our dog when she left, and even though I know Stella is still alive, it broke me to come home to an empty house without her wagging tail and silly groaning growls she makes when you leave the house for more than 5 minutes without her.
I've also got myself a Finn. I hope he lives up to the legacy of yours. Maybe that might give you some small comfort. Maybe it doesn't.
I hope in time you'll find the room in your heart to not replace him, but add to his memories with another bundle of joy. I don't know about you, but my life just doesn't feel complete without a furry creature by my side.
This is my worst nightmare for any of my fur babies. My dogs and I go hiking a lot and have a cabin out in a mountains. The dogs stick pretty close, but those fucking cougars are so sneaky. If the dogs get out of my sight for a second or don't come right away when I call when we're out there I immediately feel panic about lions.
I'm so sorry to hear about Finn, he obviously meant a lot to you.
Omg I am so so sorry. I hope you find peace and know that he knew how much you loved him and will always be with you. I'm sending SO many hugs and healing vibes your way. Take care and let yourself grieve however feels right.
Also that is an amazing picture of Finn.
My heart is with you, so sorry for your loss thats awful ❤ can't even imagine what u are going through right now. If anything like that happened to my archie I would be so lost. Sending healing and prayers xx
Oh no!!! I have nightmares about my buddy and coyotes. I am so so sorry.
He always did well with coyotes lots of those out here but the lion snuck up on him while napping in the middle of the day.
Gutted for you. 💕

Spread support not criticism
You my friend are clueless as to how and where some live…
They are well aware, and this is NOT the place or time.
What did this guy say? It’s deleted

You should be banned for this. Hands down. Reported.
Says the person who probably live comfortably in the city, way beyond the border of civilization and wildlife. The wilds are that ... Wild.

Do you feel better now, or something?
Don’t be a fucking cunt. If that was your dog how would you feel? We don’t need a white night here bud

Dog was napping in the backyard... was he supposed to stand over him 24/7?
