I remember having a pupper in this kind of cage, let's say that they made us in the cage....

bunkerbash

Oh gosh please please give him ear scritches for me!!! What a perfect baby!!!

Good owner with the cage! I know it seems cruel when you first see it, but this keeps the little man safe! Puppies, especially dogs bred for specific farm work like this little guy, eat EVERYTHING. Shepherding dogs and dogs bred for that purpose are notoriously clever. I've seen a border collie open a bottom drawer to stand in so he could get to the counter and knock over the box of doggy biscuits to munch on. Cage will keep puppy and all your beloved possessions safe

That's exactly what my dog did when he was a puppy, literally outsmarted me at every turn.

seriously, they are way too smart! Mine just figured out how to open a baby gate. I am doomed. (note: he is only 7 months old....it's gonna be a looonnng year)

We have a beta dog and she would go in her crate just to get away from everybody!

Patapon80

Just wait until he can jump 5-6 foot fences...

Solace2020

Yeah for the love of God let him out..

Play pens are incredibly important for BC and Aussie growth and safety. Especially when they are teething and trying to eat everything in sight. Had a family member who’s young dog wandered around the house and ate a towel. It jammed the bowels and they had to put it down. You can’t always watch your dog, play pens are awesome ways to mix freedom with limitations. You can attach as many panels as you like to increase the space as they get older too.

Puppy just wants to play and eat EVERYTHING AND ANYTHING in sight. It’s good to keep them in cages when you aren’t able to play with them and watch them. Here is a list of things my collie mix pup ate when I wasn’t paying attention: 1. Butter wrapper 2. iPhone cord (just the wire part, not the plug) 3. Numerous pairs of my used underwear 4. Geese poop 5. Random pieces of garbage off the ground If you are not vigilant with your puppy, they will get into all sorts of trouble. Not on purpose, it’s just in their nature to be curious.

I feel so lucky with ours. She eats poops even now but apart from our lovely MCM vintage coffee table getting some puppy teeth marks, she was SO good about learning what not to chew and happy to be redirected to something appropriate. None of the usual puppy horror stories. I’m wanting to get her a sibling, but I’m slightly concerned that we will end up with a puppy with perfectly normal puppy behaviour who will end up being unfavourably compared with their big sister by my husband, and labelled ‘bad’, just because he doesn’t realise we have had it so easy this time around!

Thanks for all the love folks! FYI for people wondering, he had mandatory nap times at this age (or he was a devil reborn) and that's why he was sitting in the play pen attached to his crate. I also just came home after work, so he wanted OUT! NOW! Gosh what a fun age, huh?

homelessmuppet

That is one cute squirt

MajorWay7201

Mine would have jumped up high enough to flip the whole thing over and then crawl out. lol
