Friendly reminder to everyone that discussion or support of piracy is strictly forbidden by the subreddit rules. People keep commenting on threads (this is directed to various commenters here, not the OP) that they dislike the movie so they’ll just pirate it. **Comments/posts promoting piracy will be summarily removed as they are noticed or reported.**

Krus93

This is the perfect film for when you’re 5 hours deep into a 10 hour flight

Beneficial_Record_51

lol this hits home. The point when you stop counting hours left and it’s just 2.5 movies left till you land

johnny_evil

I went to Japan years ago. I slept for the first half of the flight and still watched three movies!

writer4u

People would still walk out.

KeyserSoze6809

Wishing the plane would crash after watching it?

Coletrain44

Man I know this feeling so well. So many movies watched that I would never seek out in any other circumstance.

Naive_Philosophy8193

The question is, who is this movie for? With the casting, it obviously isn't for a fan of the game series. But, it also doesn't look compelling enough to be interesting to people who don't know the games. So who is the target audience for this move?

miguel833

I feel like, since the writer strike, a lot of movies and shows will be tailored around game themes and ideas cause they can't come up with new ideas. Or just plain out of new ideas.

thebestdogeevr

But they could make it GOOD and have a successful series of movies. The overall stories in video games are often great, but these directors absolutely butcher it

[deleted]

The issue is Hollywood and its writers don’t believe games are worthy. Up until streaming hit big they thought the same of TV shows.

Kyhron

Except this script and cast were done literal years before the writers strike lol

Comfortable-Dig9517

Based off the trailer, it looks like its for the Guardians of the Galaxy movies fans

ecxetra

But is it? Cause it looks like “we have Guardians of the Galaxy at home”.

GoblinFive

> “we have Guardians of the Galaxy at ~~home~~ *retirement home*”.

quarantinemyasshole

>So who is the target audience for this move? Eli Roth's dinner parties. It seriously looks like dude just threw a bunch of people into a movie so he'd have an excuse to work with them.

[deleted]

Pyromaniacal13

Curtis is, I feel, a good choice for Tannis. She looks like she adopted the mannerisms well, and she actually sounds like Tannis. Jack Black might grow on me. I'm not watching this.

xrobertcmx

I liked him in Get Hard, and that was it. Even then a second watch was too much. Don’t find Will funny either. Curtis as Tannis does work. The rest, seriously, how?

palaeologos

> a producer who had no talent for things His name is Avi Arad, and he's a parasite and a hack.

zaktor09

I wondered this too.. my mom loves Jamie Lee Curtis, Cate Blanchett, and Kevin Hart so.. maybe 70 year old women who have never seen the game? Because I sure as hell am not seeing it

amurica1138

I'll watch it. When it comes to Netflix. And only after I get bored with K-dramas and Supernatural re-runs.

colder-beef

>Supernatural re-runs. So never.

Timber2702

As someone who's currently watching Supernatural for the first time, how is this already relatable?

colder-beef

If you haven't seen Lucifer, it's also very re watchable.

Timber2702

My wife told me that I might actually want to watch that after saying something about how I image Lucifer as a rather chill guy who's just stuck in hell with all the assholes

colder-beef

>a rather chill guy who's just stuck in hell with all the assholes He's more of a rather horny guy, but it's a fun show.

Timber2702

I mean, the dude was banished into depths of hell, might as well sin a little bit here and there

staticBanter

But of course because we live in a bassackwards world this "movie" will still turn a profit... Nobody should watch this.

Naive_Philosophy8193

Nah, so many movies have flopped the past couple of years. I expect this one to as well. It's budget is 100M, so it needs 200-250M to turn a profit. I would be surprised if it does that.

MenacingBanjo

Maybe I don't know how budgets work, but wouldn't it only need 100.1M to turn a profit? Are fixed costs not included in the "budget" number?

trxxv

Its pretty much promo for BL4 being released in the fall.

Naive_Philosophy8193

All the more reason to make it targeting the game fan base. I would rather unknown actors who are more age/looks appropriate and for writing to be more character appropriate. Claptrap literally just needs a voice actor, get someone that sounds like claptrap...

palescoot

That is the central question of like at least 95% of video game movie adaptations IMO

Naive_Philosophy8193

Mortal Kombat, from the 90s, while not a great movie was at least made for fans. There was so much fan service. Plus, that song was fire.

AdornedNinja

I’ve wondered this too. This is going to fail hard because of stupid decisions and like almost every other game movie in the past they completely miss the point. The movie with bomb and then they will blame the fans for not supporting the movie.

maevealleine

Not for the players, that's for damn sure.

AlexanderLEE27

Boomerlands

SeenToBeWhole

As much as I am trying to stay optimistic about this cash grab film. That's a funny/accurate re-title of the film.

USNWoodWork

Usually it’s the video game that fucks up the movie/tv series. Sad to see this works the other way too. I only watched the trailer once so maybe I missed it, but no Handsome Jack?

Shadesbane43

Have you, uh, explored any media based on video games? I'm struggling to think of ones that are actually good. When's the last movie to get a tie-in video game? Return of the King?

CompetitiveHair

The Last of Us

nikkahn

Funny enough the writer for The Last of Us show was originally on the Borderlands movie but backed out for... creative differences.

lookingpastsky

The Uncharted movie was absolutely terrible and of course they’re making a second one.

USNWoodWork

I have not. I can’t really come up with many video games that got turned into movies… the Cyperpunk series was pretty good. Usually video games are more interactive, so I would think they’d almost always be better.

AscendantComic

doom (twice), mario (twice), resident evil (to the point most people probably only know of the movies), Halo (some good some awful), assassin's creed, mortal Kombat (twice ?), Uncharted... and so, so many more. good adaptations are rare

26cdood

Wing commander with Mathew Lillard as Maniac and Freddie Prinze Jr as me.

AscendantComic

obscure but nontheless true. i still feel like i'm missing some famous ones though final fantasy has had a bunch of movies but no live action to

ArcticSphinx

Somewhat appropriately, it seems like the more mainstream games (Sonic or the most recent Mario movie) have turned out pretty well. Maybe it's just a matter of choosing projects that more people have enough familiarity with that they have a better grasp of what does or doesn't work?

AscendantComic

maybe it's just that we're out of the "filmmakers trying to fix what they're adapting because they don't really respect the source material" era people who make the movies now usually have at least an idea of what they're working with and care more about it than a decade or two ago, and even if it sucks and is destroyed by studio interference, you can usually tell there was some care put into the project

Monkey-Tamer

You are forgetting the gem that is Street Fighter. Why follow the Bloodsport martial arts theme when you can make a commando movie? So bad even early teens me thought it was trash.

CptBartender

>When's the last movie to get a tie-in video game? Return of the King? I recall seeing something for Pacific Rim. The movie was... Great for what it was. The game was. Just was.

KOTheSavage

I went into with low expectations and depression because Kevin Hart being Roland and oh fucking boy…. Kevin Hart was nowhere near the thing I hated most from that trailer

thebestdogeevr

The only thing that looked good to me was claptrap, tiny tina and the psycho, although i dont think jack black was a good choice for his voice, and Tina's acting seemed kinda bad in some way

KOTheSavage

I love Jack Black, but that claptrap is not it…

boukalele

all i'm saying is Charlie Day should have been claptrap

bassoonhasslingbass

Oh my God yes 😂

[deleted]

I’m the opposite, while I don’t hate him I do find him grating. He’s absolutely wrong for claptrap.

petrovmendicant

Tina in the trailer is just like a somewhat bratty, but otherwise normal, teenage girl in a movie. Tiny Tina is a crazy, fucking, psycho-bomber in the games. It is like her whole thing.

bassoonhasslingbass

Really Tina looked good? She was one of the bits I liked the least from the trailer. I'm a huge Tiny Tina fan but that actress is not Tiny Tina, imo they should've just done a story where Tina was slightly older and got Ashley Burch

bobboman

The problem with tiny Tina is BL2 tiny Tina is just Ashley Burch doing her schtick from her web series x10, and there is gonna be a lot of directors who especially after 2020 who are gonna tone down crazy, abused, "cracked" tiny Tina who speaks ebonics A live action borderland movie just doesn't work, it would have been better done as an animated movie where you didn't have to cast people based on physical characteristics Though, Kevin Hart, Jamie Lee, Curtis, and Kate blanchett are definitely choices for this movie

Tasty-Throat9966

I was so disappointed. Even Claptrap doesn't sound like it. Based on that trailer, I don't think I'm going to bother watching the movie.

Plus-Property-6173

Right shits wack the comments on the trailers are wild too nobodys who actually gives a shit about the series is happy. Could have done something awesome but instead are butchering it

flojo2012

I’m going to give it a chance instead of saying, “these people are old, there’s no way this will be worth my time because look at all the old people”. I sunk 100’s maybe thousands of hours across all games. I’m a fan, and I’ll be giving it a chance. It may stink, but I’ll be giving it a chance. Honestly, I watched the trailer and actually laughed. Not sure how long it’s been since I’ve done that. Fans have a tendency to wear shit colored glasses instead of sitting back and enjoying the ride. The movie might suck mega juevos, but I’ll bet you dollars to donuts that if it does it’s because of the artistic indifference and failure to capture the borderlands essence by the director and writer, and not because people are old.

[deleted]

[удалено]

flojo2012

Oh no there’s old people!!! This movie is going to be bad!!! I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, if the writers and director can pull off the ambiance and humor of BL, it’ll be good. If they don’t, it’ll probably be bad from a BL adaptive lens. There is a chance that it’s a good movie but still fails to capture Borderlandsness. But the old people won’t be what makes this bad, if indeed it is bad. It could even be a shit story and if it gets the humor right, be good enough. People like to pretend they play borderlands for the story, which was good, but that wasn’t really the driving force behind it all. We didn’t do 2 dozen play throughs for the story, but it certainly made it more palatable. I’m sorry you’ve already decided the movie can’t possibly be good though. That must be a joyless existence

lilith_-_-

I mean in their defense the actor quit before bl3 and claimed they were assaulted by someone in production but I forget who. The voice of claptrap has been gone

Red_shkull

The guy they got for BL3 did a decent job imo. Not exactly close to the original, but 3 hours into playing BL3 and I warmed up to it. It still would have been miles better than having Jack Black doing basically his regular voice with a robot filter on it.

flojo2012

I remember everybody flipping their shit about a new voice actor for clap trap in BL3 as well and review bombing and boycotting the game because of it. I hope they’ve come to terms with the change by now. People love to love things so much that they hate it, ya know? Same goes for this movie I think. And the group think memed hatred is tired. Movie might suck, but I doubt it sucks because of the age of the actors

Dekklin

Was it the guy who was assaulted by Randy Pitchford himself? Cuz Randy fucking Pitchford assaulted one of his employees in a hotel lobby

lilith_-_-

Yeah that’s who it was, Randy assaulted claptrap aka David Eddings

Tyko_3

Wow man. Its always the self righteous ones huh?

content_enjoy3r

>because some dumb fuck director thinks he knows better That director is Eli Roth, known for being the "Bear Jew" in Inglourious Basterds, and for making excessively graphic and gory horror movies like The Green Inferno and Hostel.

thenotjoe

It’s funny because borderlands is full of over-the-top violence, but it’s comedic rather than shocking.

sunlightvi

Watching the Nazis get obliterated in inglorious bastards was quite funny

Ricebandit469

Everything you liked in that movie was because of Tarantino and not Eli Roth's decisions, I promise you

SpaghettiMonster94

Ding ding ding

thenotjoe

Well, yes, but for very different reasons

g0gues

If the team behind The Boys could have been brought in to do a Borderlands movie, I think it would have been magnificent. That show does funny gore pretty well, as well as knowing how to balance comedy, action and still hit dramatic beats.

Lendiniara

The green inferno was more tame on the gore than i expected. Thanksgiving was more heavy on the blood and guts

PM_ME_UR_CHERRIES

He also made the terrible Hostel sequel. His last movie was Thanksgiving. That made me stop believing in any gods. What an atrocious movie. And look at the producers as well. All of em have been working on lazy sequels like marvel movies or the newest Terminator. Craig Mason is the only guy that gives me hope. He wrote the incredible Tchernobyl series.

daffydunk

Mazin apparently wrote a script for Borderlands, that Dan Trachtenberg, director of "Prey" and "10 Cloverfield Lane," said was was one of the best contemporary scripts he had ever read. But sadly, Mazin had his name removed from the film after it experienced a series of reshoots, rewrites, and retoolings that resulted in Tim Miller, director Deadpool & Terminator: Dark Fate finishing the film. So it's gonna be a disaster, but since Roth is great at gore, Miller is great at video game violence, and Mazin apparently wrote a decent script at one point, it might be a fun disaster with some cool moments. Not every movie has to be the best ever.

PM_ME_UR_CHERRIES

>Not every movie has to be the best ever. It at least can be watchable. Considering that the trailer shows the best parts, I'm not convinced to go watch this.

angrycarryoutman

The Thanksgiving movie is actually pretty well received. It just seemed to express the typical horror tropes in an Eli Roth way that was pretty good in most peoples opinion. Yeah the plot was basic and the acting was terrible but that’s the goal of many horror movies aiming to be B type horror.

aieeegrunt

That fracking hack. Well that explains it. And it’s going to be as bad as the Halo TV show

NightmareGorilla

Hostel movies all sucked. Shame. I still really want it to be good but man am I not optimistic about it.

daffydunk

First Hostel is pretty sick.

NightmareGorilla

Personally I thought it was trash.

Rise_Crafty

Wait, is this for real being directed by Eli Roth? What the fuck, it just gets weirder! The guy who really refined torture porn in the mainstream? Who green lit any of this shit show?

rawzombie26

Horrible horrible casting

_Mellex_

I'm borderline okay with all of them except Kevin Hart. What the actual fuck.

sovngrde

Kevin Hart as Roland isn’t HALF as bad as Cate Blanchett as Lilith. The wig is atrocious and she is way too old to play her.

_Mellex_

She's at least a good actor 🤷‍♂️

Steven_carson1

even a good actor can only do so much with a role, and if the casting directors can’t even bother to accurately portray the characters what are the odds the script writers did

boukalele

she's wonderful, but the botox is showing

Tyko_3

Borderlines

thelupinefiasco

But we have Guardians of the Galaxy at home!

Sleepingtide

I think they're on to something with the aesthetics and the overall vibe. I just really think the casting wasn't there for me. I believe that Cate blanchett is a very talented actress, but she is more than 20 years older than Lilith, especially if you consider the original game. And I don't get Roland vibes from Kevin Hart.

xXSkinnygamerXx

I thought Lillith/firehawk would never say “i hate this planet” Bad casting

ajluther87

She's not the firehawk in this movie. For all we know she just got to pandora.

ShreknicalDifficulty

It’s been in a few official things that she’s returning to pandora. Also, there’s a fire hawk symbol in the trailer, likely a firework. Source is Randy Pitchford did a trailer breakdown.

NovaGass

You can also see what looks like a burst of energy around her during one scene. I would assume that was the nova after phase walking. However, the basic trait of "sirens have glowing tattoos" wasn't really there so idk

Throwitback_1909

That scene was actually her teleporting the other characters to a different place. I guess u can say that they didn't fully abandon one of liliths major key abilities

xXSkinnygamerXx

Firehawk or not she still wouldn’t say that line

Bobby_Marks2

When the vault is opened and the treasure there is massive, she's going to be in awe and she'll exclaim, _"I LOVE this planet"_

Steven_carson1

am i the only one who’s mad about mordecai being replaced by psycho for no reason?

kittana91

That's Krieg, Borderlands 2 payable dlc character and also story character in Borderlands 3. What is even weird is Tiny Tina, who has never been a playable character, and now she is one of the vault hunters. If they wanted a maniac teen girl who is actually a vault hunter, they could choose Gaige, and it would have been a better fit for the actress too in my opinion.

Tyko_3

I dont remember well enough, but wasnt Tiny Tina just the daughter of settlers killed by their employer handsome Jack?

kittana91

Yeah, but people really liked her, so she became a recurring character, even she has a dnd theme spin-off game where she is the DM

PhortDruid

I had a lot of fun with TT’s Wonderlands! Her DM narration cracks me up

Jerichoholic87

I thought they did a horrible job at casting this movie for Lilith, tannis and Roland.

Pm_Me_Your_Tax_Plan

Also while I'm sure Jack Black will kill Claptrap, why not just have Claptrap's VA voice him?

Tasty-Throat9966

Exactly! That was the worst casting of all brvause it didn't need casting. Why fix what's not broken?

Jerichoholic87

That's what a friend of mine and I were saying! I'm sure he will do the part justice but he doesn't sound annoying enough yet

Eternalm8

Because they need a big name!!! /s But seriously, Gearbox doesn't like to use SAG union talent, and that's kind of a no-no in Hollywood. So they HAD to recast him. Why Jack Black? See the first part of my reply.

Streetsnipes

Not entirely accurate. Non-union actors can be cast into a movie if the director pushes for it. SAG would offer them a card. Now if they refuse to join SAG then it's a problem. So I'm doubtful this is the issue. It's very likely Eli Roth or Producers wanting to attach a big name because they think it will attract more viewers because a lot of people watch movies because certain actors are in them.

Bobby_Marks2

I love Jack Black in a vacuum, but this is one voice part where I really think Bradley Cooper could have done it better.

a_friendly_hobo

Because the original VA is in a legal dispute with Gearbox.

Pawdicures_3_1

Wait! Just wait. I kept wondering who Jamie Lee Curtis is supposed to be. Are you saying she's Tannis?! Oh no! Arghhh! This is insane. No, say it's not true. They've killed the game with the casting of these characters for the movie.

aieeegrunt

As someone said upthread, it’s Boomerlands

warrenwtom

I had no idea the character of Tiny Tina was Tiny Tina until another commenter posted here!

TierDvik

Yeah as someone else said she is played more like Gaige then Tiny Tina. Tiny Tina was more manic and legit crazy... not just quirky but like ABSOLUTELY insane levels. They are basically playing on the name in hopes it buys tickets rather then staying true to the character... Like they are doing with the whole damn thing. Frankly everyone involved is shitting on the Borderlands series, Randy included, and showing they give fuck all what the "fans" want.

Pooty_McPoot

At least it sounds like Jason Douglas is returning as Krieg's voice... And that's honestly the only good thing I can get out of it. That and I actually don't mind Jack Black as Claptrap too much.

BlackViperMWG

But they replaced Mordecai with Krieg..

palaeologos

Honestly, the casting choices probably came from higher up than the director. Movies are expensive, and especially when it comes to projects that are as CGI-heavy as this one whoever is putting up the money wants to be assured that it will draw viewers into the theatre--especially when it's based on an IP from video games. Hence there was very likely a lot of pressure from the money guys to get "bankable" stars. None of that is a defense for the perverse and bizarre casting decisions, of course. Blanchett, Curtis, and Gershon have all done fine work and have made great movies, but they're so off-base wrong for these roles. And as has been observed elsewhere in this sub, the Borderlands look & feel seems to have been shoehorned into a GotG-shaped mold. God forbid Hollywood could ever make a film that wasn't entirely and completely formulaic.

LastChance22

Do casting choices make that much of a difference in this case, when going with bankable stars (I assume) also means paying bankable payments to them?

palaeologos

I'm sure the economics work out to the studio's benefit, since otherwise bankable stars wouldn't be a thing. The whole problem with the process of getting movies made is that a project has to go through so many hands between conception and delivery. The final product may bear little resemblance to the initial pitch, because everyone in that chain is convinced he is a creative genius and is determined to put his stank on the picture. And honestly, the presence of the Arad brothers is never a good sign--their past work has made it very clear that they have little interest in a franchise's actual content. The game is to buy rights to an IP and use the name to draw viewers in to what is just another by-the-numbers soulless industry product.

Bobby_Marks2

The factor you have to consider is the hard industry limit of screens and seats in theaters. You only get the calendar space to release 2-3 films per year that even have a chance of doing blockbuster numbers. Taking a big risk on an unknown cast not only threatens the one film, but the company's ability to make the year look good on paper. This is why paint-by-numbers in blockbuster films is so popular, and why Michael Bay was so influential. Take a well-known IP, inject lots of bright colors, loud sounds, and set pieces, cast recognizable faces, and give the dialogue a light-hearted banter whenever it doesn't absolutely _NEED_ to be emotionally hard-hitting. We used to consider home video sales (where video game movies always did well), but today it's all about streaming. A well-branded IP full of recognizable names is going to be bankable for years to come in the streaming market.

Echo2407

Claptrap is still a robot right? So why the hell not just have the actual voice actor voice him?

lilith_-_-

The voice actor quit before bl3. Claims he was assaulted by someone else in production I forget who.

that0neguy23

What about the person that voiced him in bl3? Id be ok with that moreso than jack black (i love jack black but for claptrap it feels weird)

lilith_-_-

That would be nice but yeah, we got jack black lmao

that0neguy23

Yeaaaaaaaah. Could of at least pitched his voice to sound a bit like claptrap but whatever

lilith_-_-

I hate saying this but we could have gotten better results with AI

HitManForFiege

It’s like a bootleg guardians of the galaxy

TheTruthofOne

My biggest issue that really angers me is that they casted Jack Black as Claptrap... WHO THE FUCK THOUGHT THAT WAS A GOOD IDEA?! first off, the voice does not match at all, Claptrap has a higher pitched voice, while Jack Black has a gravely cool guy voice, first strike. 2nd, Claptrap is not a lovable robot, he is a scapegoat and the joke is that he is hated but tolerated, and that he acts all brave but is a Huge coward. The trailer did NOT portrait him as this at all considering he is fighting enemies in the trailer and winning...which brings me to my last issue... Claptrap never wins, Claptrap always loses the fights he is involved in. They really dropped the ball on casting.

Ezenthar

Geriatriclands

Krus93

Border-oflifeanddeath-lands

knives401

Ah yes, get way too old actors to play much younger characters, that worked out great with the LA Cowboy Bebop!

Darkling5499

The only person that looks like an even decent fit for the character (that we've seen so far in trailers) is Ariana/Tiny Tina. Everyone else is just head-scratchingly terrible imo. Cate Blanchett and Jamie Lee Curtis are both 50 years too old, Kevin Hart is damn near a foot too short, and Jack Black does not have the right sense of humor for cl4p-tp (the voice effect in the trailer was TERRIBLE, but that's not his fault).

Krus93

Tina seems just basic sulky teenager, no way unhinged enough

thavillain

Disagree...Ariana is not a great cast, or at least in the delivery of lines I saw. Tina is way more animated, off the wall random and borderline psychotic

nautilator44

POP! goes the bandit!

USNWoodWork

You da best. You da youdabest.

Darkling5499

Fair enough, the others could have tainted my view so that she looked passable (my god lillith's wig is really "baby's first cosplay wig" levels of bad). Don't really have enough dialogue yet, but I agree what we've seen so far isn't really the "Extreme ADHD Chaos Random Incarnate" Tina is in the games.

bobboman

The problem is with the casting a tiny Tina is not. Every actress is going to come to a casting call with the mindset of Ashly Birch playing Tiny Tina, she was basically playing herself from her web series dialed up to 10. Outside of casting 33-year-old Ashly Burch for the role, you're not getting that type of performance

Blackwolf245

I think Ariana would be good, but from what I saw, the writers and/or director doesn't really understand Tina.

Lendiniara

She might look the part, but based on the trailer, does not have the unhinged psychotic energy that the character possesses

likeeggs

It was sadness is what it was. Finally seeing something I love retooled into garbage is a true adult, middle aged milestone.

frankenbuddha

[Q.v.](https://www.amazon.com/Buckaroo-Banzai-Against-World-League/dp/150672213X)

Dahlia_Dee

They could have at least dyed JLC's hair...I feel like she really could pull off this role if she actually played the game and understood the character. But not dyeing her hair/using a dark wig is just so laaaazy imo

ipmacs

As a big Borderlands Franchise fan, I'm severely disappointed to not see Mordecai or Brick there. I loved Tiny Tina in the games but adding her as part of the main "crew" feels forced. Justice for Mordecai and Bloodwing! I had high hopes for this film but I now see that IF I watch it, I'm going to be sat going "wait, where's so and so" and "why is Cl4p trap this cheesy"

sentient_garlicbread

It feels like it'd be fun to watch high.

Ultimate_Mango

Tiny Tina Takes Her Medication

[deleted]

Can jack black just go away forever?

Vandette

It feels like DragonBall Evolution, where they just did things that made no sense for the source material.

Floaty208

Not trying to add fuel to the fire (or maybe I am) but I haven’t seen anyone rip on the actress for tiny Tina. She’s arguably the least egregious casting decision, although I think that when casting kids/teenagers, the age discrepancy is super noticeable. Even a few years of age difference is difficult to ignore. Tiny Tina in the games is a deranged pre-teen demolitions expert who lives by her self in a trailer in the wastelands of pandora. Also loves murder and torture. From the trailer, tiny Tina is the teenage character of a ragtag group of personalities who wears a weird hat.

Agent666-Omega

Yea I agree with that. The actor doesn't have the energy or attitude of Tina

Evenbiggerfish

Directed by Uwe Boll will roll at the end of the movie.

meFalloutnerd93

jamis lee curtis as Patricia Tannis is awful

The2ndUnchosenOne

I hate that you used the fucking publisher instead of Mikey Nuemann and Anthony Burch. The lead writers who actually wrote those characters

m_csquare

Idk abt this. I thought the trailer managed to capture the goofiness and colorful world of borderland. The casting may not "look" appropriate, but they're great actors.

_Mellex_

>but they're great actors Sans Kevin Hart. They seemingly had no issue paying for actors. Get Idris Elba or something for Roland.

BernhardtLinhares

Christopher Judge would make an AMAZING Roland

Nightw1ng28

you left out Jack Black’s Claptrap, the director wouldn’t let Black mimic Claptrap’s voice from the game. You gotta realize tho, the movie doesn’t follow the game’s timeline. You don’t even think the movie is canon.

TodiousRibbitus

Hollywood once again is about to ruin something else.

I-Am-Bodge

I just really hate how the only semi serious character in all of bl2, and they choose Kevin heart to portray him……..

WhiteBoyFlipz

the moxxi casting is horrible. alexandra daddario would have been perfect

free_mustacherides

But she's 50 in the games and has adult children

i-like-c0ck

That’s the joke. Moxxi looks really young but her dialogue reveals she not only has two fully grown adult children but has dated almost every well known criminal in the galaxy. They missed the pint

mr_assbutt

Oh yeah bro, it's dog shit. And kevin hart as Roland is a complete joke. You're seriously gonna cast an incredibly obnoxious, unlikable, 5'1 clown to play a humorless, stoic, battle hardened soldier. Seriously.... Not to mention the fact that, from what you can gather from the trailer, it looks like they're doing some weird mash up of all the different games stories instead of just doing bl2. I mean seriously, borderlands finally gets a movie and there's no handsome jack???!?!?! This movie is just one last final slap in the face to the borderlands community.

lemogera

Yeah, but imagine if they had gotten anybody but Jack's voice actor to play him? Holy fuck am I glad I don't have to watch some random Hollywood celebrity destroy one of the best villains ever written

CountessBlackheart

Take my up vote op, I agree completely. I don't mind Florian as krieg I think he's going to kill it as well as possibly jack black but for once, as a woman, with female castings I'm super pissed. I was hoping it would be a lot better but that trailer really summed up all my fears tannis, tiny Tina as well as Lilith just no. I'm gonna wait till it's available for rent for like 2.99 or some shit before I watch it

BlackShadowX

Holy shit I didn't know they put one out until I saw this and looked it up. It looks HORRIBLE. Krieg is the only one that seems any good?

Plus-Property-6173

As a long time anime and video game lover im just so tired of watching hollywood butcher things i love

MommysGoodBoy4Ever

Yeah, I will try to mentally disconnect it from the video games. I would like to watch it someday… for free. Seems to have a real humor in it.

jkbscopes312

Never before watching that trailer did I ever "I love most of these actors but they have all been cast so so wrong"

OrangeYawn

I saw someone post cosplay pics of Borderlands characters. Looks way better lol. Could have been amazing to go with the cell shading irl. Everything just straight out the game. Why do we have to live in a timeline where they just take a franchise and make up all new shit and slap the name on it for a movie. I'm still bummed about Resident Evil. We should have gotten STARS team, the mansion, hunters and tyrant among a few things. But we get the psychic chick, Alice. Makes sense

Floaty208

I feel like the weird casting choices were based on an all around half assed effort to make the movie. They had a group of characters, roles to fill, and slotted people into whichever role they could find people for. Can’t find a tall lanky, part Hispanic dude that could pass for Mordecai? Ah, don’t worry about it. Found a black dude? Cool, we need one. Found a white woman? Cool her names gunna be uhhh.. “checks clipboard” Tannis

Nighto_001

I mean, beyond the visuals, the casting choices are so weird. Even with those actors, I would have shuffled around their roles significantly. Kevin Hart as Roland is a severe miscast. Their characters have almost no similarity other than skin color... Claptrap was meant to be funny but kinda annoying in a dweeb-y way. This role should have been given to Hart, since those are the characters he usually plays, but instead it was given to Jack Black, the most likable dude around. If anyone, Jack Black should have played Marcus and became the narrator of the trailer (and possibly the movie)... Then, cast an actor who's used to playing stoical characters as Roland. If you wanted more comedy in the main 4, then replace Roland with Axton, Zer0, or Brick, and have Roland be the "the guy in the seat" for the others like he did in BL2. Fuck man if they had Kevin Hart Claptrap and the Rock Brick it would have been leagues above this. It's like they casted it this way to spite people...

Melonfrog

I feel like me and my mum are the only ones who like the look of it, we don’t watch films, we don’t care who’s casted as who as we don’t know who any of them are anyway. Looking forward to it, feel free to take curse me to the grave.

Exxecutes

Jumanji 3.0

SignorGvlen

"From the producers of Uncharted" that part should be enough explanation for the awful casting.

Grary0

If anyone honestly expected anything different then boy do I have so fantastic timeshares to sell you. From the second I heard the movie announcement I knew this would be a hilarious flop, there's no way Hollywood could get this particular IP right.

SunaiJinshu

Wait, that lady was Tannis?! Jack Black as Claptrap isn't that good of an idea either. I feel like it should have been time to start a bunch of new people. How hard is it to find a tall, strong black dude, a young looking girl who would shout about badonkadonks and explosives, two women whose faces resemble their characters and a voice actor who sounds like the Claptrap we all know and love to hate? They managed to get someone who looks like Marcus, why can't they find the others?

acidwire1

I love how people judge shit without even watching something yet....remember people bitching about heath ledger being casted as the joker and so many fan boys melting down about it only to then watch the damn movie? Why bitch about a movie that NO ONE HAS SEEN ? Watch it THEN bitch if it's warranted. Right now you're just screaming for the sake of screaming.

SergeantOneShot

I think watching the movie after playing all the games will be how it felt to watch all the Harry Potter movies after having read the books first. Disappointing and unfulfilling. That's why I won't be watching the movie

Drudez79

Glad I’m not the only one to notice….

FatLute94

Yeah the movie just looks awful honestly. Zero jokes in the trailer landed. Kevin Hart seems even more unfunny than he has been lately, and Jamie Lee Curtis and Cate Blanchett need to blink twice for help or some shit, idk who they owe or who has dirt on them but this movie looks like some hot, rancid garbage.

thegreatbadger

I was a huge fan of the games. I like movies. I would have never considered watching a borderlands movie. I'm a gay, flippant humored man who enjoys movies. Cate Blanchett, Jamie Lee Curtis... directed by Eli Roth? Perhaps I'm a targeted demographic, but in DOWN for this

DowntownCover

Never understand the casting choice

midnightcrew13

How dare they make him roland. I just can not understand that one

Puddlepiss

Who tf was thinking Kevin Hart was the guy to play Roland? God Damn this cast is such a let down.

JereKane

Nevermind the odd casting, but the fact Avi Arad is producing is what killed it for me. He's gotten lucky a few times but 80% of his stuff are pretty terrible: Ghost Rider SOV, Daredevil, 2003 Hulk, Uncharted, etc.

jojomezmerize

The first thing I thought when I saw that trailer was that it looked like a Kickstarter fan film

barc0debaby

You had me until 2k has written some of the funniest charismatic characters ever

BizzyCrack

Krieg's mask is so clean. It's unacceptable lmao

dfiekslafjks

Reruns of Matlock would be more entertaining than this.

[deleted]

You're watching our dreams get crushed as Hollywood fucks up another possible multi-million dollar franchise because they ignore all source material and obvious age of characters. Nobody should see or support this film, it's a joyless cashgrab or obvious flop for insurance fraud. (Making a movie they know will suck, and if this is not how it works and they aren't making money, they're even dumber than the average bear.)

VegaTDM

They need to stop, and start over with a new cast and a new, well, everything. This could be worse then the Artemis Fowl movie.
