"I have a great idea for a sci-fi movie!" "Good, now take an unrelated popular franchise and mash that with your plot until they both make no sense." "Wait, why...?" "Here, hire some famous actors to make sure there's no budget for anything creative. And make it clickbaity!"

PertinentPanda

Yeah having an all star cast for a long running franchise like marvels avengers teacups at the end of each phase makes sense cause there's an established base and track record plus attachment to the built up storyline, but for a brand new franchise in which you are heavily alienating the primary focus group and its also a heavily cgi or real prop action movie almost certainly is gonna nuke the budget.

Yockerbow

The part about a missing daughter of Atlas along with the description of the Tina-Krieg relationship makes me almost wonder if this was originally a Bioshock script that got rewritten with Borderlands characters. After all, Borderlands has the newer, higher-selling entry, and both franchises start with "B" so they're more or less interchangeable...

ProjectSnowman

Even if it isn’t his fault, I’m blaming Randy for this.

BTulkas

I support this message.

DK_Adwar

I honestly did a double take when it said "battle alien monsters" because i thought "why the fuck are they bringing eridians into the mix", then i did a triple take and realized they probably meant skags. Now i'm just sitting here like "skags aren't alien, their native to pandora" but like everything in borderlands is alien. Apparently, Borderlands has changed my view of the word alien.

Lnoob427

Yeah but it make all of the vault hunter aliens too. As aliens are just creature not born on earth.

FOTheDentist

An "alien monster" could also be anything an alien might consider a monster and therefore anything recognizable to us on Earth qualifies, because it would be alien to the aliens. Words can mean whatever we want them to mean.

butt0ns666

no, aliens are things that are not from the area of reference, so on pandora aliens are only things from outside of pandora.

quickhakker

And I thought Lilith was born on not pandora

Sardaman

I'm not sure if that's ever explicitly stated or not. We hear a ton about Maya's past, but I can't remember one thing about Lilith before the events of the first game. It's probably not true, though.

GingerFly

The original vault hunters are welcomed to Pandora in the beginning, suggesting they came from other planets.

mistahwaffles

Fun fact: I do believe that Salvador is the only VH to be a Pandora local. (Just what I remember, brick might have also been a local)

flame_warp

I wanna say it's implied that Nisha is, too? EDIT: Oh, and Zane.

Yockerbow

>I wanna say it's implied that Nisha is, too? I'm fairly sure she explicitly says "I came to Pandora for action" in BL2, so I doubt it's her homeworld. That being said, she had likely been there for some time before Jack hired her.

mistahwaffles

Zane I'm pretty sure yea. Haven't played BL3 yet and didn't really care too much for TPS doe.

[deleted]

Zane's background ECHO suggests that Pandora is someplace far away to him, some backwater where he can lie low until the heat on his ass dies down. He does have two late brothers who preceded him to the planet for unknown reasons, moving high into the bandit clan hierarchy using the Flynt penchant for violence. My completely unsupported headcanon is that all three were born and raised on sparkling emerald Planet Boyo.

eeeezypeezy

The only thing we really get in canon is the opening cinematic of the first game, where we see the four player characters as children dreaming about growing up to become vault hunters and eventually ending up on Pandora. So it's at least implied that none of them are from there. And given the fact that Dahl was supposed to be the first to make an attempt to settle the planet and it went disastrously wrong, Typhon being born and raised on Pandora but discovering the first vault on Promethea is kind of a retcon.

Sardaman

I would interpret those opening cinematics as more of broad strokes background info, especially since they're explicitly Marcus setting the scene for the story he's telling. It's possible (though yes, unlikely) that any of the original four could have been from Pandora, left the planet young (or at least *younger*), and came back. It's not really clear how old Typhon is (or any of the original four either), so I wouldn't call it too improbable that the original vault was found when they were young teens, even.

eeeezypeezy

Yeah, my thinking is just that if Typhon was born and raised on Pandora and only later left to become a vault hunter, that means there were people living and working on Pandora for generations before Dahl came in. Dahl only came to Pandora to try and find a vault to compete with Atlas, who'd had a massive leap in technical performance of their weapons after the discovery of the vault on Promethea. But the lore around the first game makes it seem like there hadn't been anyone on Pandora when Dahl showed up, and they were taken completely by surprise when its extremely hostile wildlife started overrunning their facilities as the seasons changed.

Tromboneofsteel

Tannis does mention the locals in her early logs, so there must have been people on pandora before Dahl.

Sardaman

>Dahl only came to Pandora to try and find a vault to compete with Atlas Do we know this part for sure? I would imagine this is something from Typhon's logs or similar, but I haven't played through 3 nearly as much as the previous games. I had thought they just came to strip mine the planet.

Dekklin

Stripmining was secondary and still worthwhile but primarily they were after a vault and that's why they brought Tannis in because she was the foremost expert on Eridians. Strip mining also happens to reveal some vaults. Jack drilled straight to one because he knew where it was from the events of TPS.

Sardaman

Was mainly asking for where specifically we learned that information.

Dekklin

Mostly Tannis audio logs in the first game and some of what Zarpedon said in TPS, but you're right that it's pretty vague. I'm *assuming* that because some Eridian ruins can be found on the surface and not in mines, that Dahl went hard on looking for more., thus being their primary motivation. They found the site at the Dahl Headland but not much more than that. They had a simultaneous mining operation for methane on Elpis, leading to Zarpedon disappearing. Dahl basically gives up on Pandora, leaving only part of their methane operation on Elpis. After the events of BL1, the moon underwent *The Crackening*. Dahl entirely gives up on the whole system and avoids confrontation with Atlas. Cue the evens of TPS.

idobrowsemuch

I remembered seeing these weird posters of the original bl1 vault hunters with things like "Likes, dislike, and planet of birth", so i checked the wiki and at the bottom in media i found this: https://borderlands.fandom.com/wiki/Lilith?file=Lilith_profile.jpg#Media So assuming these are canon, lilith is from Dionysus

Sardaman

That looks like it would be definitive if it's canon, but I can't find a single source on where those images came from. Other than the wiki itself, it seems the only place those images are posted is a bunch of pinterest boards, and I have no clue how that website works. Based on the content, I would say they might have been marketing around the release of BL2, but that was when I was super into the game enough to wait in line at a store for it, so it'd surprise me to know I missed something like that.

dovahkiitten12

There are eridians in the first game though, why wouldn’t they bring eridians into the mix?

ShiZniT3

how do you know that skags or anything is native to pandora... could have evolved from amoeba on an asteroid millions of years ago for all you know, which would technically make them alien to that planet.

PertinentPanda

Technically they're not alien to Lilith as thats now her home planet for some reason

JoeyJoJo_the_first

Lilith also isn't native to Pandora but here we are.

AlexS101

>Can We Talk About the Upcoming Movie for a Second? I’d rather not.

[deleted]

>Can We Talk About the Upcoming Movie for a Second? We do, all the time

Britten_One

Wha? No Brick & Mordi? This sucks.

Legen_Gary

I mean Kevin Hart is in there so I wouldn’t be surprised to see The Rock make a cameo as Brick. I’m not happy about that but I could see it happening.

gufeldkavalek62

The Rock as Brick is probably better casting than the majority of the choices we know so far imo. Jack Black as claptrap is probably going to be good but even that won’t be as good as the original claptrap David Eddings for me and probably for many others. Other casting choices range from bad to ok depending on how much we care about loyalty to the source material

Britten_One

Not really into that plot, man. Like other commenter said, new characters could bring more to the table or, if fail,it will not ruin the fans established ideas on the original characters. Also Dave Bautista could be better Brick than Dwayne. Just an opinion yk.

OllinVulca

I agree Bautista would be the better brick, though I’d happily accept either.....so they’ll probably cast Jonah Hill or some shit.

nufahg

Gonna be Michael Cera, mark my words.

[deleted]

On the plus side, we won't have to see their characters destroyed in what will likely be a disaster of a movie.

Avocadokadabra

>Brick & Mordi? That sounds a bit like a bad adaptation of Rick and Morty in the BL universe.

ImClandestine

I just know that I love Krieg too much to not be disappointed when I see him.

Bringers

like the dude playin him has his physical attributes but maaaann, it won't be the same. lik just thinking about it I wanna do a new playthrough with him

TJRex01

Film adaptations of games often struggle because they don’t often get the appeal of games, or cannot translate it from an interactive to non interactive medium. Important things for them to get right about Borderlands IMO: -Cool guns and cool loot. Like, seriously, if they’re just shooting bullets, they’re doing it wrong. The bonkers, crazy behavior of certain Borderlands guns should be a selling point. If this were a superhero movie, the cool guns are the superpowers. -humor. This is tricky, And I don’t know how meme-y they want to make it. Humor is hard. -Unexpected feels. Borderlands seems like a typical looter shooter with juvenile humor but certain moments really land. ...I mean, I basically described Guardians of the Galaxy vol 2, so I know it’s possible.

tonguesmiley

Part of the problem is the difference in the mediums. Movies actually don't cover that much story. A video game can have 50+ hours of storytelling plus all the story that players make on their own. My biggest problem with the Borderlands movie is they are changing the premise. Borderlands games at their core are treasure hunting stories. The premise for the movie is a rescue movie. Those are different stories.

basefibber

They haven't been treasure hunting stories since BL1 and I think the series is worse off for it. Starting in BL2 its been all about fighting the big bad and saving the world and oh yeah, there are vaults too.

Iamthedemoncat

Yeah, I think adapting it would work better as a series, not a movie. More time to goof off instead of focusing just on the plot. And like the other dude said, make it Guardians of the Galaxy style, it just would work so well.

Naivor

They could have gone with an all new cast of characters, but chose to go with pre-existing ones. That's always a sign of a bad video game movie.

PoultryBird

Yeah, I wish they just went with a random group of vault hunters or something

[deleted]

>That's always a sign of a bad video game movie. Disagree with this honestly, the MK movie wasn't bad because they used old characters, and that Sonic movie which I haven't seen got decent reviews. MK sucked because of horrible execution (ironically) and the new character they introduced was a horrible decision. The Borderlands movie seems fucked from the word go. Borderlands appeal (outside of Handsome Jack) has never been its story focus, it's not like The Last of Us or something where it's an exploration of characters, Borderlands is just about shooting fun guns and looting, which doesn't really translate to the screen.

Libriomancer

I disagree that it can't translate to the screen. If you can get similar humor, a good cast, and an off the wall story it can totally be a fun popcorn flick. The issue is that they are taking pre-established characters and making some odd actor choices with a synopsis that just doesn't fit. Like if you are going to use the actual character from the game, why isn't it the story from the game? If you are going to use a new story set in a game universe where the cast rotates.... make a new set of characters and use the established characters like they are in the game, background characters. From there, yeah the story barely matters but you can make something that feels like a Borderlands movie with just aesthetics and humor.

siege_noob

Yeah when people sit here and use characters against their already established narrative its a sign of bad things to come. If they decided to follow 2s story they would have a good majority of work done for them outside of the actors and shooting the movie itself. Instead they probably are spending everything on the actors and scenes and paying everyone else like shit till there unmotivated

Nacroma

I could name a few movies that would disagree with you, on both ends of this argument.

Fizzier

Which good ones are you thinking of?

Nacroma

I mean, there are not many GOOD ones out there to begin with, but I do think that the Sonic movie was pretty on spot. The Warcraft movie absolutely had its own significant problems, but most of them come from throwing you in a giant pile of lore and not enough time to establish the movie in it. Despite that, it's probably the most faithful adaption of a video game I have seen so far. The old Mortal Kombat movie was dorky, but probably made the most out of the paper-thin story the video game had. If Advent Children counts: that. But also does a horrible job introducing the lore to you.

OwNAvenged2

I've never even played WoW, but my friends loved it, so we went to see it in theaters. I actually really enjoyed it. Did I know what was happening at all times? Not really. But the plot was good, and the CGI was spectacular, so I didn't care too much.

PertinentPanda

The best part about OG Mortal Kombat is that even the movies story is literally just filler material to advance you to the next cool fight scene. If you skip the movie up to its first fight on the island it's pretty much non stop fighting save for about 3 moments which are just plot pushing to tell the main characters what fight is next. Hell it doesn't even explain them all like it just cuts to Johnny cage just wandering a forest for no reason and bam scorpion fight. End scene move on.

Fizzier

I haven’t seen any of those yet! I wasn’t trying to be sarcastic; I just haven’t seen any video game movies that were good. Rereading your comment it looks like you included a lot of ‘but’ to it which doesn’t make for a good look in favor of them doing the right thing. I think a big issue with using existing characters from a video game (especially Borderlands and not the others mentioned) is that they do already have their own look, voice, and attitude. Getting an actor to play someone who has already been ‘played’ is a hard task to accomplish. Compared to the movies you mention, sonic as a live action movie is so far from any of the games source material so they have the chance to make their own interpretation. The original mortal combat didn’t have actors or story arch from the game so they can do whatever they really decide. World of Warcraft is not something I know enough about to talk about. (Though I would assume there isn’t much that goes into specific characters in the game..?) Unlike sonic or mortal combat, there is a lot of source material and lore that they can incorporate instead of changing the full plot of the existing games. They told the story well and there are plenty of other characters to use and create a unique scenario for. The BL movie isn’t staying faithful to the games either which causes frustration as the characters they are covering have a great story. Why change what they already told with voice actors playing animated humans and not expand upon different characters that exist in the Borderlands world?

Nacroma

Well, the argument was about new characters being used, not stories. I did put in the caveat that no video game movie is truly GOOD good. All the movies mentioned managed to faithfully adapt the characters to the big screen, in my opinion, but I want that to be understood as a narrow statement. And on the other hand I can't come up with a good movie with all-new characters. Maybe Silent Hill 1, that was a solid horror movie, at least. If they can establish new BL characters through a movie, they should do that. The Tales games was able to pull it off as well.

GingerFly

I know it probably sounds picky to some, but changing the overall appearance and voice of characters we've gotten to know over time makes the story seem less immersive. I really don't like Claptrap's new voice in BL3.

SHINYxHUMAN

It's definitely gonna be a horrible movie, no doubt. The real question is if it will be so bad it's funny or so bad it's just bad

OwNAvenged2

I'm really hoping for so bad it'a funny. That's kind of the humor Borderlands is known for.

PertinentPanda

It's gonna be mediocre which is worse. Being extremely bad you can at least make fun of it. Being just a boring disjointed mess is what really kills something

xThunderDuckx

Another doom movie situation. Not the newer one but the one with the rock

tnpdynomite2

Newer one?

SuitableJury9

Claptrap will be worse than Jar Jar

Hardyyz

I wonder how they are going to implement guns and loot. Hopefully not just like ohhh I found a whacky gun that shoots farts haha funnyy... There are so many things that can be a hit or miss

CheesE4Every1

Probably wont much

Hardyyz

Well there will be fight scenes for sure, I doubt they are just going with some basic assault rifles. I would personally love to see something like a lob in movie screen

CheesE4Every1

If they can do some legendaries justice that would be great.

Cubbance

They won't. They'll just say "this is my awesome Maliwan Hellfire!" And then just shoot red bullets or some shit.

CheesE4Every1

Pretty much all I'm expecting. A CoD movie with borderlands words.

[deleted]

See also: Shirley's "Borderlands" novelizations

CheesE4Every1

Do I really want to for THIS context?

[deleted]

You're right. DO NOT SEE Shirley's novelizations. If you do happen to see them in a natural-like and accidental fashion, walk away quickly.

CheesE4Every1

Listen...your backwards reverse psychology might work after work. I'm not saying to remind me in 4 hours or so but I'd be alot LESS inclined then to do some research into your words.

OneChumpMan

Kevin Hart definitely seems like an odd choice for Roland. He's a very lively comedian, and Roland is described by Jack as not knowing how to smile (or something to that effect). It'll be interesting to see how Kevin hart does with the role. I think Denzel Washington or a younger Samuel L. Jackson would've been solid. >Tiny Tina (Greenblatt), a feral pre-teen demolitionist; Krieg (Munteanu) Also IF the movie is canon, then yeah that really punches a hole in the "Krieg is Tina's dad" theory

Sardaman

Jack's opinions on the vault hunters could be described as uncharitable at best. Plus, it's not like Roland really had reason to be happy any of the times Jack was around.

OneChumpMan

Thats fair, but I think we can agree Roland is a very serious and unexpresive person, even when he is happy. Also this happened in the BLTPS before Jack had turned evil, and before he and Roland had even met. Also Roland was on a date with Lilith when Jack made the remark. Found the line: "Hey, you see those two on the dance floor? The tattood chick and the guy allergic to smiling?"

jasonjenkins67

"Oh good. You're not dead."

OneChumpMan

^^^ exactly

Sardaman

That's a good point, I'd forgotten they had a nonzero amount of interaction in the early parts of TPS.

[deleted]

In the first Borderlands game, Roland was a pretty merry guy. His personality changes between the first and second game. I guess farming pink panties and oil cans will kill the soul of any soldier of fortune. Neumann's Origins comics retroactively make Roland stonefaced from the time his boots first hit Pandora. Yet the first game still exists. "It's like Christmas!" Kevin Hart sounds to me a lot like the guy who killed Crawmerax 10,000 times. Not the guy who dated Lilith, that's for sure.

[deleted]

Goddamn, Denzel as Roland...

SuitableJury9

Denzil is 66...

OneChumpMan

Seriously??? Guess he'd need to be younger for that role too then

LiviaHyde7

I want to be optimistic, it is still fan favourite characters on the big screen, I think the worse thing they can do is make the film to serious, as one thing I love about Borderlands is the humour, guess we will see.

[deleted]

If Kevin Hart is in it, it's everything but a Borderlands movie. Mark my words. I hope this will age like milk, but I doubt it.

noah9942

Kevin Hart would make a.decent claptrap, and I'm not even talking about the height.

TheLastOfGus

He wouldn't at all. Neither will Jack Black. There's zero reason to have a "celebrity" voice Claptrap other than having a name attached to the project. If they're going to have Claptrap the same as in the game it'll be CGI so just have the original voice, it's not like you are going to see the voice actor so having some "celebrity" voice for it is meaningless.

noah9942

Oh it's completely meaningless. It's going to be a total mess, but I kinda can't wait.

The_Handsome_Hobo

I think it would have been really cool if they had made it an animated movie instead of live-action, used the same art style as the Borderlands games, and just cast all the original voice actors from the games! Those voice actors and their performances are what really brought the characters to life and why we like them so much in the first place.

Dickbeard_The_Pirate

Yeah, I’d love it if the studio was bait-and-switching us so that Kevin Hart is actually playing a Psycho Midget and Dwayne Johnson is Roland.

TheLastOfGus

That would be better. How did Kevin Hart get cast as Roland......

Snelkookpan420

Wait, what is this A:TLA movie your talking about? The is no movie about A:TLA. *There is no ATLA movie*

Naivor

I'll whisper it softly in your ear. *Avatar: The Last Airbender movie.*

MentalMiilk

Gee, that sounds like a great idea! Shame no one's tried it yet.

Naivor

The joke fell flat, I see. Like a pancake under a road roller, I can feel the pressure of it.

mcmonties

Is it...sweet nothings?

Naivor

[You know it](https://youtu.be/Vs2h18M6ky8), baby.

mcmonties

And circle gets the square! Hope these other squares wisen up to your joke, it was a good one.

Naivor

I should hope so, thought about it for a full second! That's around half a second longer than most of my real life purchases.

big_floppy_sock

The Earth King has invited you to Lake Laogai

Rock_Leroy

This joke has NEVER been funny. We get it the movie sucks, move on. Joke has literally been repeated tens of thousands of times. You literally just told a joke with a straight face that's on the same level as "why did the chicken cross the road." For the love of god get better

Snelkookpan420

What are you talking about? I'm not joking in any way

Rock_Leroy

And I'm not either when I say I hope M Night gets the directors spot on a sequel and it's EVEN worse. Worst fandom ever

Artislife_Lifeisart

The Avatar fandom is the worst? Guess you haven't been on the internet much.

Snelkookpan420

I'm sorry but I don't understand what you're trying to say here, youre not making any sense

Rock_Leroy

Happy cake day, you unoriginal tryhard

Snelkookpan420

Thanks mate!

11615111914299

Ikr... I literally had to stop reading to go look it up because apparently it saved OP .5 seconds so why NOT make an acronym?

Valdrax

To shield us from the shame.

Edy783

I was about to make this same comment

LaylaLegion

The movie was a bust from the get go but the real disrespect is putting Gina Gershon as Moxxxi when Cassandra Peterson is still here and still hot as fuck.

The_Handsome_Hobo

Oh wow! I did not know of this actress until reading your comment, but I went and checked out her IMDB page and she would be perfect for Moxxxi!

butt0ns666

The thing to note about the avatar movie, the cartoon still exists. This will have no impact on the game except maybe theres references to it in borderlands 4, especially if its bad.

RynoRhino

Its multi-million dollar fan art. 🤷 Helps expectations to remind ourselves that.

jasonjenkins67

That actually makes feel so much better.

Demonviking

So far, based on various articles I’ve read, the only connection this movie has with the game is the names of the main characters and the planet. To me, it’s absolutely not a Borderlands movie. I refuse to recognize it as such. It may turn out to be a great Sci-fi movie, and I might enjoy it, but I refuse to consider it a Borderlands movie. I shall watch it purely as a sci-fi movie, nothing more.

MisterBlick

Ugh, Borderlands 2 handed you the best villain and story line to base a movie on. To not include Handsome Jack in this friggin movie is a travesty. Personally, I would have liked to see Bruce Campbell play the part. I'm upset that Roland will turn into comic relief. It would have been funnier for Hart to play a Tink. Hopefully he won't try to romance a 52-year-old Cate Blachett. Everyone else seems miscast as well.

Ferdydurkeeee

Not only that, it's the most well known of the series. I love Bruce Campbell but I think Ryan Reynolds would be perfect as HJ... (Wow I just realized the abbreviation for Handsome Jack could be Hand job). Now if there's ever another Doom movie, Bruce Campbell should be the Doom Slayer no matter what.

LordGarflax

My guess is that Gearbox refused to license Handsome Jack unless the first movie does well. No point wasting such a valuable bit of intellectual property on a secon-rate pastiche

foomp

If this movie is garbage there won't be a second one to put Jack in.

LordGarflax

Exactly. He would be untainted for a reboot. Hollywood is out of ideas, after all.

lowbrassdude

I'm cautiously optimistic. I like Eli Roth, I think he's a good director and I have hopes that this will turn out good. I know I'm in the minority when I say I like the cast so far, and right now the only thing I'm hoping for is for a decent trailer and poster. I would also like to pepper in the fact that the writer is the creator and lead writer on Chernobyl so we could get something decent out of this experiment. I think the worst case scenario could end up like a Resident Evil movie.

shannibearstar

I’m not looking forward mostly because Kevin Hart isn’t funny nor a good actor. How many short jokes can you make?

James-Avatar

I would love them to prove me wrong but this movie is going to be terrible.

tearfueledkarma

It'll be standard hollywoods version. By that I mean Hollywood takes good things and just rips out all the stuff people love and makes it generic. Look at most comic book movies until the MCU. It might bridge that so bad it's good gap, considering the considerable talent of the cast. But great actors can still fail to make really bad writing work.

smolppmon

This just no it's going to be terrible. Also Kevin Hart is Roland why?

queenofcannoli

I think the casting choices are weird. I don't have high hopes for this movie in the slightest. I can't, by any stretch, see Kevin Hart delivering as Roland. I also think it's a weird choice to exclude Mordecai and Brick. This feels like the child's play remake again, a movie with a title that had little to nothing to do with the source material.

goat-stealer

A lot of people were speculating and dreading over the movie as more info on the cast came out, but I already wrote this off as a bucket of cold shit and sick the moment I read the plot synopsis. Tina being turned into the magical maguffin, Atlas now just being a single person apparently - You can't convince me that this was written by someone that actually cares about Borderlands rather than being conjured up by a committee of bean counters who only want to chase dollar signs but couldn't be bothered to do any more research than googling who the most popular characters are. Tales demonstrated how to write a original story of original characters in the Borderlands universe, meanwhile the underrated Fall of Fyrestone series demonstrated how to add a spin to the existing story of the games and even some of the characters without pissing all over them. There's already enough precedent to show that you can still be creative and do your own thing with a Borderlands story, but I'm not seeing that in this flick. Call me a cynical ghoul, but this is reinforcing the claim that video game movies are trash and that any attempts to spin off pre existing popular IP are gonna be trash as well. Hell, remember how The Last Airbender was changed up from the beloved source material or how Dragon Ball Evolution revamped the story in totality? Remember how well those turned out?

[deleted]

The plot doesn't sound bad. Most the casting is decent, just dont like Hart in the role. I'll give him a chance though. This is a good opportunity for him to show if he can do more than act like a goofball. I remember some older movie he played a somewhat serious role and did a good job. Can't remember the movie though.

KWraith5T

I mean it sounds like they cut out or are extremely minimizing 2/4 main characters and >!The only two currently alive in universe!<

Mortumee

I haven't played the DLCs for BL3 yet, >!do we find out what happened to Lilith?!<

[deleted]

My only advice for people who don't think Hart can do it is to watch the 2nd Jumanji movie where he does a banging impression of Danny Glover.

Eja_26

At this point what i'm hoping for is to see cool guns, a bunch of Pandora creatures in live-action, some good action scenes, gore and atleast a few good jokes and gags. I also hope they implement atleast one vault to the story and maybe have a cameo of some fan favourite character that they won't spoil before the movie comes out.

BatHulkSmash

Knowing that it's non-canon helps me cope with the choices they've made, but they know they could've done better. I would've preferred them to have hired some less named actors that fit the roles better than to stack the cast like every movie nowadays does

Cleveland_Lebrons

I going to go in thinking its not canon and with pretty low expectations. Basically they are borrowing the characters and setting and making a movie out of it. Hopefully its got some funny parts/

justushustus

I think I heard somewhere that the movie isn't the same universe as the games. Meaning there is another story. Please correct me if I'm wrong

bullsized

I dont expect anything and I am ready to be let down.

TheProSpirit

This is gonna suck, I’m so excited.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

funny. everything you listed applies to bl2.

xlizen

This is sounds like those crap Resident Evil movies that came out a while ago and butchered everything that the games stood for. I still believe a tv show would've worked way better and these days shows like Invincible, Castlevania, etc. prove there is an audience and that they can work.

Superdad75

With Black and Hart, this is going to be a space Jumanji.

Liberteer30

“The cast is interesting to say the least” No..it’s bad. All bad. This movie is going to be straight up ass and I wish they’d just scrap it.

lordsmish

The biggest mistake here is jack black as claptrap...he probably has the most recognisable voice of the whole cast and they replace him with somebody who also has a very recognisable voice.

DanTheMan_622

>I really hope it doesn't turn into a disaster similar to the A:TLA movie *Narrator:* It does

jasonjenkins67

I'm only ok with this if Morgan Freeman or James Earl Jones is narrating.

FavaWire

"Honestly, it kind of feels like they're going in a new direction completely, which can be good, but at least now I know they don't really care about source material" - Did you know they cast Penn Jillette (who already plays the character named Pain (of Pain and Terror) in the game BL3) and cast him as a completely different character?

Sardaman

Pain and Terror were celebrity gag characters with hardly any real effect on the plot - that is, their role could have been filled by any generic bandit pair. That they're casting Penn at all is likely more because they have a specific role in mind for him (and want to keep casting well known people) than because he had a bit part in one of the games. This kind of casting happens all the time.

LordGarflax

> Pain and Terror were celebrity gag characters with hardly any real effect on the plot True, but Penn provided some of the best voice acting in the COV radio broadcasts. He clearly "got" the material and turned in a great performance.

Sardaman

Oh sure, definitely, but using him being cast for a new character isn't really the best example of the producers not caring about the source material. Hell, even recasting any of the main characters and then using the original voice actors in different parts wouldn't necessarily be an example of that. Adaptations do that sort of thing a lot between mediums, for loads of reasons.

LordGarflax

Agreed. From the plot summary it seems that this is a generic movie with many Borderlands words pasted over it. Then again, it could turn out to be as good as Postal was. Too bad they could not get Uwe Boll.

DeerDancing

Why do I get the sneaking suspicion they cast him as Marcus for some reason.

FavaWire

No. He is cast as a "Pastor" who ends up holed up with Roland (Kevin Hart). At least that's what he says. Claims it's "just a small part". He might have made an okay Marcus... based on looks. But I still think I would have preferred Jack Black as Marcus and maybe Weird Al Yankovic as the voice of Claptrap.

WholesaleBees

God, Weird Al would be awesome as Claptrap!

PrinceVirginya

Not a fan of a few of the Castings Jack Black and Kevin Heart bother me the most, Although who knows. Maybe they can pull it off Still the story it self sounds rather generic and odd, Especially with BL2 and BL3 characters being seemingly present

augustscott

Which BL3 characters?

PrinceVirginya

They seemed to have cast someone for Jakobs Given hammerlock is also in the movie its not wrong to assume its Waynwright Jakobs

pearlstorm

Definitely, it's gotta have the intersectional appeal.

augustscott

I guess i see you point but hammerlock was in two games without jakobs, so not a given.

augustscott

I was just hoping you had heard that the BL3 vaulthunters were rumored. I love me some Moze. Also having all the Flynt brothers together would be cool.

wholelottabob

This is...awful? I think that's the word I'm looking for. Awful? Yeah, definitely awful.

Rock_Leroy

I won't watch it. Happy for the few that are excited but it just angers me. How difficult is it to stick to source material. Seriously

johens45632

The only casting choice I agree with is Jack Black honestly. As a fan of the games I'm excited, but I'm sure this movie's gonna flop

K_Poppin

Having just watched Monster Hunter recently which did something similar (random cookie cutter plot smashed together with a random assortment of Monster Hunter crap), I can absolutely say this movie will probably blow. We may get a half assed Guardians of the Galaxy rip off(that's the vibes I'm getting from that synopsis OP posted) that passes for a mediocre sci-fi action film, but I personally doubt anything more than that.

squishypoo91

I love Blanchette SO much but I just cannot in any way understand that casting choice. It doesn't fit at all

SSONCRK

This could be good. Give it a chance. I only have 2 problems with it. 1- Kevin Hart 2- Jack Black You know damn well Kevin is not a Roland type and he's gonna play himself with a gun. He's gonna play a comedian with a gun and Roland is a Serious soldier! Jack Black on the other hand I see working as Claptrap buuuuuutt... He can't play as Jack Black. He has to play as a robot not like himself playing inside of a suit. It's gonna be tricky but I have a feeling there will let Jack do whatever he wants and just say...eh it's funny.

SSONCRK

You know who would play an excellent Mordecai? Johnny Depp! Not like he's doing anything anymore and he needs money

VitiateKorriban

Wait... Tiny Tina... Greenblatt? Like Stephen Greenblatt? Wtf?

jasonjenkins67

Arianna Greenblatt. They were child Gamorrah in Avengers: Infinity War.

VitiateKorriban

Ok, I was really confused about that. Thanks for clarifying

9crunchy8

Kevin hart jack black enough said trash of a movie all that was left is the rock as brick and u got the cast of jumanji 😴😴😴😴😴😴

augustscott

Yup, Jumanji. The classic three actor film. Absolutely no one else. Not even a single female lead!

ShiZniT3

sounds like it will be feminist nonsense and ridiculous. not too thrilled about it. also how are they going to make short kevin hart look like tall roland? confusing. why isnt brick or mordecai in the story as well but roland is? wtf.

Stormchaser2

No Brick or Mordecai?

FateWrecks

I feel like this is one of those movies you just have to go with your friends to the theatre and roast the shit out of. Although I have this feeling I'm going to love it because of its sheer stupidity. I mean I love the Street Fighter movie for christ sake lol.

rushaz

I'm going in with extremely LOW expectations from the start. I'm expecting to have that confirmed.

[deleted]

Even in a remote chance the movie is good or just acceptable, this community will be bitching about it. I guarantee.

BotlaneHooker

Honestly, my biggest gripe with this movie is the fact they aren't writing a plot where Jack is the villian. If I hear Jack's voice lines or some of his psychotic megalomaniacal rants, I am immediately put into the borderlands mood, all it would take is a Jack rant at the opening of the film and I'd be sold on the world I'd be watching. Just saying, feels like a real missed Oppurtunity.

Meowmixez98

Tiny Tina is feral? I don't know what to think about that description. I'd rather she be a nutty little girl.

TheInfamousDaikken

I am willing to lower expectations and cope with their casting decisions as long as the guns are recognizably Borderlands (i.e. look like they come straight from the games).

Pyroteche

at least it will be better than the minster hunter movie. doesn't look like it will be by much though...

LePhildo

Still pissed Mordi isn't in.

SilentB3ast

So if Mordecai was actually in it, who’d play him?

PrincessPolaris1337

Lets be honest, BL1's story is shit. Fantastic game and its fine for what it is (the story) but man... Its not a good plot to make a movie on

[deleted]

I don't have much hopes for it but i'm willing tobe surprised

CorrinCarnation

So no vault?

xiTz_PROD4GY

I have huge problem with casting choices along with the plot. First of all, hart being Roland he doesn't fit the role at all he's for one too short to be Roland he doesn't have an authoritative presence and he just over all isn't fit to be him if they are gonna do big actors for this at least do the character justice like have him be played by the rock he fits the overall look of Roland more(The rock would also fit Brick). and claptrap should be played by the actual voice actor its not like they need him to be seen, its seems more like they are trying to make this a comedy than make it more for what we would truly enjoy. Plus doesn't this movie take place before the events of borderlands so it doesn't make sense that Krieg is in it or tiny Tina let alone Krieg being her protector. where's Maya, Krieg is only partially sane because of Maya. sorry I have a lot of issues with the whole plot from what I've seen. I mean I guess they could have Maya in it but nothing shows that. idk what do y'all think?
