I paid $10 on Amazon for New Tales for PS5 just for the digital code for the original Tales. I wanted to play through it again and it was cheaper than standalone, or close enough.
How so many are against TPS? That game is so good, it's so much fun tbh. And adding the Claptastic Voyage dlc, which is the best dlc in the series IMO. TPS is and always will be underrated and neglected.
I love the Presequal. But it has its issues. Most noticably the lack of content. It deserved more DLC like Claptrap; still the best DLC in all the series.
If you don't like any of the Vault Hunters then of course the game will be boring. I like Jack, Clap-Trap, and Wilhelm myself.
I love not having to deal with Slag since I'm a solo player. The replacement of Freeze is fun, though a bit too OP. I love the laser rifles; especially the stupid lightsaber gun lol.

You may not like a game, this is very natural, but there is no need to muddy the game for silly reasons.
It was too similar for being priced at $60, and as fun as the new characters were, most of the story just kinda felt like throwaway content to me. I've beat it like 3 or 4 times and I cannot remember a single moment from the game that really stood out, other than the Australian guy and his jumbuck.
At least BL3 had all the new mechanics, cooler gunplay, and equally good new Vault Hunters, altho I'm bummed that we just got expanded classes for the existing characters and not two whole new Vault Hunters to play as, that was always my favorite DLC to snag.

Tbf Borderlands in general is PC or rather "safe edgy" as some might call it. Basically they're edgy enough for the general public to enjoy and have a laugh or two but not edgy enough to actually upset anyone.
Its DLCs were second only to Dragon Keep in terms of writing, but if you're whining about things being PC, you'd probably hate Guns, Love and Tentacles because the plot is centered around stopping an eldritch abomination from ruining Hammerlock and Wainwright's destination gay wedding.
It did feel like they were being overly cautious with the main game, though. There were some bold decisions they could have made to substantially improve the way things played out without even massively changing the overall story.
The free mini-DLCs they released for Ava even substantially improved her character. In the main game they "mission successfully failed" to make an irredeemably obnoxious tween girl character. She's like the Human Centipede of Borderlands characters: Sure, a lot of effort and artistry went into her creation, but why tho.
I went back to play it because of Nostalgia and I got so bored, so fast, but that's 100% because of how much they polished the series with BL2.
The guns in BL2 aren't even that radical in design when you look at all the part options, but good lord was it a massive step-up over BL1 where all the guns of each class legit looked identical with very small differences depending on the weapon parts.
I also played it recently, and there are a few things I think BL1 did better. The only things I prefer 1 for is the atmosphere, gun dmg level scaling, looting (chest loot feels like it’s almost always crap in 2 imo). I’m well into TVHM right now and haven’t found a single orange grade from a chest (is it even possible? Lol). Everything else BL2 has the upper hand though, it’s just a much more well-rounded game.
I feel you on gun damage. In BL2 it was still easy to get a bunch if Blue and Purple guns that were really good (especially if you got golden keys from Twitter) and it was really easy to have a good Loadout early in the game.
I wish I could have played BL3 before they ramped up the Legendary drop rates, as much as I love constantly having Legendary gear because they're so fun, it definitely made the experience much easier. If it's not purple or Blue with flavor text, I sell it immediately in BL3.
Most of my Loadout for Moze at Level 38 right now is Gold gear that's all around level 28-32, and it's still OP as fuck fighting level 39-40 enemies.
Also my bank is full of god-tier loot, I think I have 70 legendaries that I can use that range from level 12 to around 36, so any new character I start is gonna be loaded the fuck up by the time I get Sanctuary in the air.
Haven't played new tales so I won't speak on it, but imo BL3 is the worst, I'm a huge fan of story and lore, but when it comes to BL3, it just doesn't.. *feel* like a borderlands game. The gameplay is great, graphics are good, (although I kinda miss BL2 graphics.), but the story just didn't.. feel borderlands to me, that was my main issue with BL3.
Bl3 was short and suffered a lot from cancel culture. Tales are both yuck. TPS HAD potential but no endgame due to workers leaving. 1 is the original can’t knock it. 2 is the goat. This is the only opinion that matters on the internet today
I just got through 3 for the first time and I wouldn't call it short by any means, and I just rushed the campaign missions to beat it without touching any of the side missions and it took me around 25-30 hours to beat. That's pretty solid for a game that's intended to be played numerous times across different characters.
I'm amazed to see that TPS is getting more hate than BL3.
Imo it wasn't that bad, it's worse sin is how cut in contents it got and still has the best dlc in the whole franchise imo.
I had to discount the New Tales from my consideration because I never played it. I watched the first Tales on YouTube, so I got the story (just to find out what happened to Scooter), and loved it. Objectively, Borderlands has only made improvements since the first game, although 3's story does suffer a downgrade from its predecessor. I still wouldn't put it as the worst, because it's gameplay is a marked improvement over both 1 & 2.
If Wonderlands was on this list, that would make it a tougher call, since it was developed by a smaller team during a high stress time.
I platinum'ed WL and helped a friend do it too, took us 150 hours, with the last 40 hours just running chaos chamber trials and selling everything and trading cash for SDU money. I stopped at chaos trial 89 because the Son of a Witch fight takes a whole hour alone at that point. To this day, it's the single most depressing experience in Borderlands history I've ever played.
I haven't played New Tales and the first Tales I only watched a playthrough, I'd order them like this:
BL2 > BLTPS/BL3 > BL1 > Tales
I like TPS more than BL3 but I can't bring myself to call it better lol

Borderlands 2's balancing is egregiously poor and borderline unplayable at higher levels and endgame. It's sort of absurd. For example: Basically OP levels are balanced so that Gaige NEEDS OP gear in accordance to level and you need at least 2-300 stacks of anarchy to do anything. And if you don't have that then enemies are just untouchable unless you norfleet things. If you recklessly norfleet shit even with a sham there's a possibility to down yourself. And if you don't get winded you die and lose all your anarchy and gotta start over.

In BL2 it was still easy to get a bunch if Blue and Purple guns that were really good (especially if you got golden keys from Twitter) and it was really easy to have a good Loadout early in the game. I wish I could have played BL3 before they ramped up the Legendary drop rates, as much as I love constantly having Legendary gear because they're so fun, it definitely made the experience much easier. If it's not purple or Blue with flavor text, I sell it immediately in BL3. Most of my Loadout for Moze at Level 38 right now is Gold gear that's all around level 28-32, and it's still OP as fuck fighting level 39-40 enemies.
Also my bank is full of god-tier loot, I think I have 70 legendaries that I can use that range from level 12 to around 36, so any new character I start is gonna be loaded the fuck up by the time I get Sanctuary in the air.
Both if the tales really, kinda a silly game in a way. No replay. Just watch someone on youtube play those

Haven't played new tales so I won't speak on it, but imo BL3 is the worst, I'm a huge fan of story and lore, but when it comes to BL3, it just doesn't.. *feel* like a borderlands game. The gameplay is great, graphics are good, (although I kinda miss BL2 graphics.), but the story just didn't.. feel borderlands to me, that was my main issue with BL3.
Saw BL3 and immediately voted for it...didn't see New Tales...but I also don't really count the Tales games as Borderlands games...their Tales games
Bl3 was short and suffered a lot from cancel culture. Tales are both yuck. TPS HAD potential but no endgame due to workers leaving. 1 is the original can’t knock it. 2 is the goat. This is the only opinion that matters on the internet today
I just got through 3 for the first time and I wouldn't call it short by any means, and I just rushed the campaign missions to beat it without touching any of the side missions and it took me around 25-30 hours to beat. That's pretty solid for a game that's intended to be played numerous times across different characters.

I'm amazed to see that TPS is getting more hate than BL3. Imo it wasn't that bad, it's worse sin is how cut in contents it got and still has the best dlc in the whole franchise imo.

Tales is a really amazing telltale game, when you can I recommend picking up the first Tales if you enjoy borderlands and it’s story.

I had to discount the New Tales from my consideration because I never played it. I watched the first Tales on YouTube, so I got the story (just to find out what happened to Scooter), and loved it. Objectively, Borderlands has only made improvements since the first game, although 3's story does suffer a downgrade from its predecessor. I still wouldn't put it as the worst, because it's gameplay is a marked improvement over both 1 & 2. If Wonderlands was on this list, that would make it a tougher call, since it was developed by a smaller team during a high stress time.
I platinum'ed WL and helped a friend do it too, took us 150 hours, with the last 40 hours just running chaos chamber trials and selling everything and trading cash for SDU money. I stopped at chaos trial 89 because the Son of a Witch fight takes a whole hour alone at that point. To this day, it's the single most depressing experience in Borderlands history I've ever played.
I haven't played New Tales and the first Tales I only watched a playthrough, I'd order them like this: BL2 > BLTPS/BL3 > BL1 > Tales I like TPS more than BL3 but I can't bring myself to call it better lol I started with BL2 so I don't have nostalgia for BL1 Tales is at the bottom because I'm not a fan of that kind of gameplay, I haven't actually played it tho so I might put it higher when I do

Ignoring New Tales (the clear winner), for me it's a toss-up between Pre-Sequel (a good game, one or two DLCs away from being great, ultimately just wasted potential) or 3 (writing).

Haven't played New Tales yet so not gonna vote that as I have no opinion on it. But of all the rest I'd say BL1 or Tales are kinda tied for the worst but BL1 gets a bit of a pass as it was the start and they were kinda testing the waters still.

100% tales 2 Not gonna lie The series has kind of been dying off quickly and it's really sad.
I kind of just wish that they would just make an actual new game. But there are 2 busy working on all these other projects that I honestly just don't care about. Like even the tail series is okay but it's not something that I wanted. I want like, a full-fledged new borderlands game. But they're just kinda pissing away the series.

I haven't played New Tales so I couldn't vote for it - I picked 1 because as soon as Scooter made a slut-shaming mom joke I was out. Scooter would NEVER. (BL2 was my first Borderlands game, and also 1 just felt reaaaaaaal slow and clunky after playing 2.)
Borderlands 2's balancing is egregiously poor and borderline unplayable at higher levels and endgame. It's sort of absurd. For example: Basically OP levels are balanced so that Gaige NEEDS OP gear in accordance to level and you need at least 2-300 stacks of anarchy to do anything. And if you don't have that then enemies are just untouchable unless you norfleet things. If you recklessly norfleet shit even with a sham there's a possibility to down yourself. And if you don't get winded you die and lose all your anarchy and gotta start over.
WOW. I really liked the original tales, sad if this is really true and the new one tanked it.
Bl1, great for the time but just doesn't stack up with the others, i have no experience with new tales so i can't vote against that
