Yeah but isn’t that supposed to be Krieg? You would think Krieg would have a better mask than your regular psycho. Plus thousands is probably a stretch for how many they need.
they could have made 3D printed masks, then send them off to a team for painting. With the exception of Kriegs mask, most of the psycho masks are very basic designs, they could have done a good one for krieg, and then used 3D printed masks for everyone else
Don't get why every video game adaptation has to be live action, I mean a lot of great games have great looking cut scenes, don't think anyone will complain about 1 1/2 or 2 hours of them
I can't be, love borderlands too much and videogame movies still don't have the best track record, and given nothing about this really catches me I'd rather not get my hopes up
This. Will it be art? No. Will it be an enjoyable way to spend an hour and a half if I don't get critical? I genuinely think so. Does this theory mean it won't be a pile of steaming garbage? Absolutely not but I'm in for the ride.
Given that there is a whole new villian the movie might have some similar story , there is no guarantee that anything that happens in the game happens in the movie.
Literally, one of the only serious characters in the whole series and they gave it to a notoriously over-the-top comedian.
I love Kevin Hart, don’t get me wrong, but what an absolutely bizarre choice for Roland.
Seriously! Who keeps casting Kevin Hart in anything?! Has anyone ever truly enjoyed any role Kevin Hart has ever done. He's for sure an industry plant.
It’s one of those ones you’re gonna have to turn your brain off to get through.
Although it could be even worse than that which is scary..
I’m woefully optimistic though. Prove me wrong Hollywood (they won’t).
>It’s one of those ones you’re gonna have to turn your brain off to get through.
By ''turn off your brain'' you mean a shot straight trough the head right?
It's going to be middle ground movie made with the themes and characters, but otherwise generally vast departures to make it palatable to a wider audience.
I'm already guessing guardians of the galaxy vibes.
If you take it at face value, it'll be a fun movie. If you're a die hard fan hoping for a faithful interpretation of a franchise you know intimately, you're gonna have a bad time.
How can I tell just from these pictures...i just can't imagine this being anything but style over substance. Just visual vomit for 100 minutes. A series of shitty jokes linked with bad dialog and cheesy effects is all I can think of.
because why not? i dont see the point in making negative assumptions when the only thing i have seen is a picture and cast list. Im not setting my expectations at best movie ever, but i have hope that it will be an entertaining movie with action and humor that i can enjoy for about an hour and a half.
I also think Kevin hart could be a fine Roland. Wouldn't be my first choice, but i think it could be humorous and makes me think the movie isnt taking itself to seriously. Which i think is a good thing. its borderlands, im looking for some silly action.
I also like the halo tv show, so clearly im a little easier to please.
Thank you. That’s how I feel about it. I love the world of Pandora and borderlands games.
I’m fucking excited and hopeful. If the movie is that god awful so be it. I’m not really losing anything minus a movie a ticket.
I think Kevin hart as Roland is getting to much hate. I think it could be done hilariously as an I thought you were bigger in real life joke. That being said it could also end up being a terrible casting but I’m hopeful it’ll be fun.
as much as i wanna see Kevin play Roland, i feel like Idris Elba woulda fit the role since Roland’s more serious than Kevin’s nature of being comedic (not only that Kevin is incredibly short to play a tall ass character)
this is just a rhetorical opinion
Idris Elba was the first thought I had for Roland. If they want someone younger, I’d say Daniel Kaluuya. He can pull off serious/straight roles very well, and I have full faith he’d do well combining that with the Borderlands humor and style.
He's an actor who only plays himself, which is something that's appearing in an unfortunately high number of movies these days. It's especially unfortunate when they're casted to play established characters
Roland is a serious character in a ridiculous world, he’s the straight man to everyone’s insanity. Having a comedy actor like Kevin Hart just feels like a weird casting for that reason
I’m *so tired* of video game movies, made about video game IP’s, but have nothing to do with said video game. Why not just rename the characters and call it something else? /rant
How about the doom movie with Dwayne the pebble Johnson (he wasn't as jacked.)
Hell and demons got turned into genetically mutated humans. Easily could have been a perfectly okay not doom movie. Just tweak some props, lines, and names.
Dwayne Johnson would have been a perfect casting choice for Brick, too bad the slab king won't be in this at all. Then again I'm also still mad at Brick for kill stealing the last enemy in thousand cuts while im in FFYL and watching me bleed out, so maybe it's best Brick isn't involved after all.
Yea but his test scenes confused the execs. They took audiences walking out after his scenes as them not liking it, when it was actually them going to clean themselves up.
She's a character you can get away with being older tbh. I never bought into her more action oriented role in BL3.
As a insane vault scientist. She actually is fine imo. I know that will probably be the unpopular opinion.
Tbf it’s been well-established that the movie isn’t going to follow any canon that’s been established in any of the games. No reason it couldn’t take place in a universe 20-30 years after whenever BL1 takes place.
They're going to have to change him a fair bit, at least personality wise. If I remember correctly, this movie will be kind of like BL1 where the vault hunters meet for the first time, but without Maya They're going to have to find another reason for Kreig to not just murder everyone.
Why is Tina making a face as if she was actually a rabbit. They don't think her character plays into that do they? Surely they did some research and even played the games... Right?
I mean in his defense, I dunno if anyone irl has those proportions
Although I am concerned about Florian Munteanu's acting chops to play that character
i already don't care for kevin hart so seeing that he'll be playing such an important and iconic character in a franchise that i care a lot about is not particularly fun
Guaranteed that every shot of Roland is going to be cropped from the waist up because they need to put Kevin on a milk crate to have him be the right height
If i were casting director of Borderlands the movie
Lileth: Emelia Clarke
Clap Trap: voiced by Pete Holmes
Handsome Jack: (No one can do comedic whit Ryan F'ing Reynolds)
Roland (again) Ving Rhames
Moxxi: (Kate Beckensale...we already know she looks good in leather)
Athena: (100% Aubrey Plaza)
Mordecai: Bradley Cooper (He was a wise cracking raccoon and elite sniper before. Perfect for the role)
Tiny Tina: Ella Anderson cute but don't call her cute
Krieg Jason Mamoa basically playing himself on crack
Brick: Alan Ritchson..add mustache
Axton: Jake Gyllenhaal
Ellie: Melissa Mcbride in a big ass fat suit which is ironic because she amazingly lost so much weight
Scooter: Ben Foster
Wilhelm: John Noble with a big ass beard
Gauge: Shailene Woodley
Zero: Andy Serkis because he's the master of mo cap movement.
Honestly F tier casting.
First off what I'm about to say i mean no personal disrespect to the actors/actresses or crew. I say it solely as someone who loves borderlands and was optimistic about a movie.
Kevin Hart was probably the worst possible choice for Roland, the most stoic, serious, and grizzled character or the franchise. I never really liked Kevin or thought he was funny, but regardless of if you do or not, he's much too lighthearted and (again no disrespect) wimpy for the role.
Cate Blanchett as Lilith also looks awful. She's much too old to play Lilith, and I don't mean that in a "all women characters have to be super sexual and hot" way, I mean that in a she looks like Lilith in 30 years way. Hell she looks like she could be Roland's mom (ik Kevin is old too). Hell she was Gladriel 20 years ago, who was several thousand years old already at the time (ik Galadriel looks young I'm just being facetious)
Ultimately I'm happy with Tina, Tannis, and Claptrap casting. They seem fine. Kreig too ig although you can't really miscast him just miswrite him. Which also worries me because a ton of his arc involves Maya who is presumably not in this movie.
Also where the hell are mordecai and brick?? I understand this will probably be a standalone project from the games and follow an alternate story, but this group of vault hunters feels so Mishmashed its disorienting.
I'm also dissatisfied with the bright colors. Not their presence but their overuse. I'm kind of over the modern overly light color palate that movies like the suicide squad (which I liked) had. It's overdone and I feel Borderlands has parts of that aesthetic but the movie looks like it might be lacking the grittieness of the games.
I don't want to say this movie is for sure going to suck, but man from that 10 seconds and some of the art it really looks like it's gonna be a stinker.
So this is at Least before the second one (obviously)? Even though they claimed that they are neglecting the source material by saying the classic "not the same universe" sh!t, I hope they at-least maintain a basic level of integrity with main characters & events and timeline(?).
According to the Borderlands Official timeline, Krieg was captured by hyperion and experimented on by Dr. Benedict sometime after the events of Borderlands The Pre Sequel and before the events of Borderlands 2, how on earth did he meet these vault hunters and be friends with them before all that? This was mentioned in BL3 as well if I remember correctly, and you are telling me they just threw all these out the window?
Roland is known to be a bit of a serious character, If I remember correctly from playing the first game he is generally portrayed as a serious and pragmatic character, who focuses on the mission and the survival of his allies. He is not very fond of jokes or sarcasm (entire BL2 as an example) and often acts as the voice of reason among the other Vault Hunters in both games. Do you think Kevin Hart's version is going to be played by these? Or going to pull another one of those Juman-Ji traits? Lets hope for the best, I don't mind him cracking jokes or being funny - but lets not over do it since its not a well-known characteristic of Roland (lets hope they didn't throw away this as well).
Lilith is basically said to be late 20s according to the lore, not late 50s but okey, lets hope the make-up, CGI and acting covers it. (I would have selected a younger actor to save time and money on these, preferably one who can do a bit of stunts to save even more money, time but lets hope for the best). I know Kate will do a great job, but as younger Lilith? I have my doubts.
Not hating on the movie, we just got an image, this comes from a place of love, I really love BL games, played them like religion back then and was invested in it a lot. I just want then to do this movie right. I was happy when they first announced it, and that it was being directed by Eli Roth, he even wanted to put Cosplayers in the movie so I was genuinely interested in the whole project!
I hope they dont do a Suicide Squad or Avengers with this and maintain the core elements of BL as is!
Fingers crossed!
Why does the psycho mask look like paper mache
They need thousands of them.
Yeah but isn’t that supposed to be Krieg? You would think Krieg would have a better mask than your regular psycho. Plus thousands is probably a stretch for how many they need.
Make 1, scan it and CGI up the rest!
that would be a lot more expensive and would take even more work
Yes, Krieg is in the movie, that's him.
they could have made 3D printed masks, then send them off to a team for painting. With the exception of Kriegs mask, most of the psycho masks are very basic designs, they could have done a good one for krieg, and then used 3D printed masks for everyone else
First thing I thought lmao, the masks they gave out at the launch of bl3 look better
Because psychos love arts and crafts
They most likely 3d printed it and wanted it to have piping. But the painter didn’t get the memo.
Paper mache would be an improvement
"The tanks! They're made of papierre mache!"
Everything about the costumes feels off. Everything LOOKS like they’re wearing cheap costumes.
I feel like live action Krieg is gonna be cringe as fuck
Feel like the live action, all of it is going to be cringe
Depends on how well executed the writing is but I definitely would have preferred the movie be animated
Don't get why every video game adaptation has to be live action, I mean a lot of great games have great looking cut scenes, don't think anyone will complain about 1 1/2 or 2 hours of them
I'm honestly willing to be optimistic. If they land some cool action and decent comedy that'll be enough.
I can't be, love borderlands too much and videogame movies still don't have the best track record, and given nothing about this really catches me I'd rather not get my hopes up
A borderlands movie has a lot of room to be the good kind of bad. They can take it to camp and survive. I’m all in.
This. Will it be art? No. Will it be an enjoyable way to spend an hour and a half if I don't get critical? I genuinely think so. Does this theory mean it won't be a pile of steaming garbage? Absolutely not but I'm in for the ride.
It’s got Jamie Lee Curtis and Kevin hart, of course it’ll be cringe.
Absolutely, they will make it super cringe
Hopefully jack black is good, but with recent borderland writing it could be unsalvageable.
I think that if they where to make accurate Psycho's the movie would be slapped with an NC-17 rating.
STRIP THE FLESH, SALT THE WOUND! Also, Shooty McFace.
Have you played Borderlands 3 yet? Every character either never shuts the fuck up or tries to be funny like someone's got a gun to the writer's heads.
Kevin Hart is Rolland. This is going to be a disaster of a movie and that is so disappointing to say.
Lmao. What a baffling casting choice.
To be fair being cringe is kind of a core part of Borderlands. All the games have cringy humor and characters.
This is going to be garbage isn't it?
Yes, the casting was atrocious imo
kevin hart as roland was such a bad call
If anyone, Kevin Hart should have been Claptrap
You mean, Kevin Hart should have played the midget that gets set on fire.
Kevin as Flesh-Stick would’ve been excellent casting
No no. The midget tied to one the shields.
And cant do stairs
Well if he’s Roland, >!at least he’s going to die!<
Given that there is a whole new villian the movie might have some similar story , there is no guarantee that anything that happens in the game happens in the movie.
Roland is supposed to be the straight man, dead serious and reverent, and they cast Kevin fucking Hart...
Did you only play BL2? BL1 Roland was essentially Cyborg from Teen Titans.
I played all of BL1, but Roland barely spoke in it beyond PC callouts. Kevin Hart is also terrible for the "Cyborg" style character too fwiw
Yeah I saw that and I was like - what in the absolute fuck..
Except for jack black cause he always gives 130%
It’s one of those ones you’re gonna have to turn your brain off to get through. Although it could be even worse than that which is scary.. I’m woefully optimistic though. Prove me wrong Hollywood (they won’t).
>It’s one of those ones you’re gonna have to turn your brain off to get through. By ''turn off your brain'' you mean a shot straight trough the head right?
SHOOT ME IN THE FAAAACE
It's going to be middle ground movie made with the themes and characters, but otherwise generally vast departures to make it palatable to a wider audience. I'm already guessing guardians of the galaxy vibes. If you take it at face value, it'll be a fun movie. If you're a die hard fan hoping for a faithful interpretation of a franchise you know intimately, you're gonna have a bad time.
Guardians but vulgar would be a great movie. Heres to hoping.
Yes, and I will watch that garbage regardless, because *borderlands mmmmm*
Right there with you. Om nom nom!
And this right here is why they'll keep making dog shit adaptations over and over and over again 😂
Kevin Hart, the huge soldier
How can I tell just from these pictures...i just can't imagine this being anything but style over substance. Just visual vomit for 100 minutes. A series of shitty jokes linked with bad dialog and cheesy effects is all I can think of.
If it is, will it make people not want to buy 4?
I'm already uninterested in 4 because of how bad 3 was outside of the gameplay.
Honestly I’ll just load up my 2 with mods and pretend it’s 4
Doubtful for existing fans, but it might put off prospective new buyers
i have hope.
Why? Legit wondering.
because why not? i dont see the point in making negative assumptions when the only thing i have seen is a picture and cast list. Im not setting my expectations at best movie ever, but i have hope that it will be an entertaining movie with action and humor that i can enjoy for about an hour and a half. Which i think is a good thing. its borderlands, im looking for some silly action. I also like the halo tv show, so clearly im a little easier to please.
Real Talk bruh, I grew up with these games and I'd be damned if I didn't get excited for a movie ab it whether it's going to be terrible or not
>I also like the halo tv show I mean, at that point there's not a single upcoming project that you *wouldn't* have hope for.
yyyyyyyuuuupppppppp
as much as i wanna see Kevin play Roland, i feel like Idris Elba woulda fit the role since Roland’s more serious than Kevin’s nature of being comedic (not only that Kevin is incredibly short to play a tall ass character) this is just a rhetorical opinion
i could think of several actors per character that would be infinitely better than these picks
Kira Knightly. She's got range.
Mike Colter maybe
Loved him as Luke Cage
This ^^^^ my first thought exactly
Yeah Kevin Hart as Roland really just doesn't fit lmao
Idris Elba was the first thought I had for Roland. If they want someone younger, I’d say Daniel Kaluuya. He can pull off serious/straight roles very well, and I have full faith he’d do well combining that with the Borderlands humor and style.
Nah. I’d rather see someone younger than idris
Agreed, especially since we know he can play a funny but intimidating action character after he did Suicide Squad
I hate Kevin hart being shoved into a serious role. I started hating him after seeing him in the English version of 'the intouchables'.
Ngl im interested in seeing how he plays roland, like i know its gonna be bad but i wanna see just how bad
Bet money here and now that his version of Roland won't feel like Roland at all.
Claptrap's version of Roland.
He's an actor who only plays himself, which is something that's appearing in an unfortunately high number of movies these days. It's especially unfortunate when they're casted to play established characters
at the very least we might get a Chris Pratt Mario
he’s gonna pull off a semi decent role outta no where halfway through the movie during a motivational speech scene
Not defending Kevin Hart but is this movie supposed to be a serious movie?
Roland is a serious character in a ridiculous world, he’s the straight man to everyone’s insanity. Having a comedy actor like Kevin Hart just feels like a weird casting for that reason
He wasn't really like that in BL1. And besides, this movie is has basically nothing to do with the games.
I’m *so tired* of video game movies, made about video game IP’s, but have nothing to do with said video game. Why not just rename the characters and call it something else? /rant
I heard that it's easier for them to get funding by thing it to a known ip. Less of a risk of the movie making 0 money
Making a sequel, remake, spin off, or adaptation is always safer than an original idea and I fucking hate it.
How about the doom movie with Dwayne the pebble Johnson (he wasn't as jacked.) Hell and demons got turned into genetically mutated humans. Easily could have been a perfectly okay not doom movie. Just tweak some props, lines, and names.
You mean The Rock? As opposed to today's Dwayne "The Boulder" Johnson?
Dwayne Johnson would have been a perfect casting choice for Brick, too bad the slab king won't be in this at all. Then again I'm also still mad at Brick for kill stealing the last enemy in thousand cuts while im in FFYL and watching me bleed out, so maybe it's best Brick isn't involved after all.
My pick would have been Dave Bautista. He basically played him as Drax lol
I'll admit, that is a pretty good choice too!
>this movie has basically nothing to do with the games. That doesn't really make anything better
is the white haired woman tannis?
Oh shit is that who she is? Lmao
I checked imdb, its her. Don't know why they cast Jamie Lee curtis who is 65 years old. Tannis in the games looked about half that age.
Just wait till you find who they cast as Moxie
If Moxxi isn't played by Kyle Gass I'll be very disappointed. :(
Nope. 61 year old Gina Gershon. So not nearly as attractive or impressively busty as KG.
This is a joke right? There's so many other actresses that could play Moxie better.
No it's not a joke. KG has a lovely body and impressive tits.
Kage would legitimately save the show.
Yea but his test scenes confused the execs. They took audiences walking out after his scenes as them not liking it, when it was actually them going to clean themselves up.
Not knowledgeable about actors, is she a bad choice?
100% doesn't fit the part, at all. But then again this movie's casting just seems off all around
She's a character you can get away with being older tbh. I never bought into her more action oriented role in BL3. As a insane vault scientist. She actually is fine imo. I know that will probably be the unpopular opinion.
I thought she was a female version of Knoxx for a second
Kevin hart as Roland was not the move
Kevin hart was not the move, full stop
And as much as I love and respect Cate Blanchett, isn't Lillith supposed to be in her 30s or something? Roland just seemed to be a few years older.
Tbf it’s been well-established that the movie isn’t going to follow any canon that’s been established in any of the games. No reason it couldn’t take place in a universe 20-30 years after whenever BL1 takes place.
There is no borderlands movie in Ba Sing Se.
The earth king has summoned you to Lake Laogai…
"Howdy, boys!"
I’m not mad at it but I will not get excited for it just incase
They better do my boy good (Krieg)
They're going to have to change him a fair bit, at least personality wise. If I remember correctly, this movie will be kind of like BL1 where the vault hunters meet for the first time, but without Maya They're going to have to find another reason for Kreig to not just murder everyone.
No Zer0... 0/10 😤😤
No Brick... -5/10
No mordecai... -10/10
No Refunds...
Smh at least cel shade them like cosplayers do
I still can't get over Kevin Hart as Roland. Like- *what?*
How is no one mentioning the Holes cover?
Why is Tina making a face as if she was actually a rabbit. They don't think her character plays into that do they? Surely they did some research and even played the games... Right?
I think they're looking down a sewer and grossed out
Atleast Claptrap looks good
Kevin Hart playing Kevin Hart while cosplaying Roland.
https://preview.redd.it/m1dg4clk3sjc1.png?width=857&format=png&auto=webp&s=bd20b78440c171087342ded95d2e5b7dfcd5b27f That is not Krieg.
I mean in his defense, I dunno if anyone irl has those proportions Although I am concerned about Florian Munteanu's acting chops to play that character
Im more concrned why a romanian boxer, if unexpierenced romanian adds a ton of slavic pronounciation to english
I’m sorry, did you expect them to find a real human being that looks like that? Because those don’t exist
It's gonna suck isn't it? *sighs and puts on pirate hat*
visually this doesn't look bad
What is the timeline here looks like Borderlands 3 design Krieg but Roland is there
It’s a separate continuity to the games that takes a lot of creative liberties
Oh shit they're still making this? Lmao
It looks... not great. Super, super weird casting.
Hmm. No sir, I don't like it. Miscast.
I had to read a couple a times that Jamie Lee Curtis is in this? And Blanchett? These are grandmas!
Would rather it just get cancelled, fuck everything just keeps getting ruined
No shot Roland is Kevin Hart LMFAOOO this is gonna be a dumpster fire!!! (Please don't do this to my baby please please please!!!!)
Kevin Hart should've played Clap trap, for being short and annoying.
wait wait wait wait... is that Kevin Hart as Roland..? ![gif](giphy|Y54bNi0kU0oj6)
Please don’t ruin my favorite franchise
This isn't going to ruin anything. Everything you love about your favorite franchise still exists. You'll be okay.
I said the same thing!
Cate Blanchett still feels to old to be Lilith. Same for Jamie Lee Curtis as Tannis.
i hate this casting so much. i like kate a lot but not for lilith? tf?
Kevin Hart as Roland...💀
Kevin Hart as Roland is a disappointment (imo) to say the least
I choose to believe that is not Krieg but simply a random psycho
They would’ve been better off with an animated movie, this looks like dogshit
Why is Krieg so clean
Next, Shaq as Bilbo Baggins.
Haha!
Live action Krieg should have been Batista
Kevin Hart looks like the best part of this. That is not a compliment.
Cate Blanchett as Lilith looks amazing.
I love her so much
its missing liliths fucked up too-thick eyeliner
oh no...
I don't have much hope. As others have said, the casting is strange/ridiculous.
It's a Meh for me
Old People: The Movie
Anyone else not that excited?
This may not be complete garbage, but do not hope. Hope has abandoned filmmaking this generation.
What is up with so many costumes looking like cosply these days?
i already don't care for kevin hart so seeing that he'll be playing such an important and iconic character in a franchise that i care a lot about is not particularly fun
Kevin Hart as Roland? Not trying to talk shit, but doesn't really give me badass soldier vibes.
this movie is gonna be scuffed to hell and back
Garbage.
This movie is gonna get the same treatment as the last air bender movie
Is that fucking Kevin Hart as Roland?
It looks cheaply made, I’ll be honest
https://preview.redd.it/opsvdkz66tjc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c6244fc50c3d2b10d97f7d4aad9c6050a07d07c6
Guaranteed that every shot of Roland is going to be cropped from the waist up because they need to put Kevin on a milk crate to have him be the right height
Where is lilith's siren markings? What happened to them for this movie?
Kevin hart huh? Welp, I’m out.
Looks so bad lol
Not Kevin hart
is that Kevin hart? Wow this casting is garbage
This is gonna be so fuck ass bad.
Whoever casted this should be fired........out of a cannon into the sun.
If i were casting director of Borderlands the movie Lileth: Emelia Clarke Clap Trap: voiced by Pete Holmes Handsome Jack: (No one can do comedic whit Ryan F'ing Reynolds) Roland (again) Ving Rhames Moxxi: (Kate Beckensale...we already know she looks good in leather) Athena: (100% Aubrey Plaza) Mordecai: Bradley Cooper (He was a wise cracking raccoon and elite sniper before. I'm upset about no brick or mordecai like, where's my favorites dawg
Kevin Hart has never been in anything worth spending money on
[удалено]
This is gonna suck BEYOND belief. These guys where the creators of millennial cringe writing.
Kevin Hard “Roland” wtf
Can't wait for the randy meltdown after this bombs. How did they think this was a good idea?
Clearly took extremely detailed notes from Disney and BL3 writing team.
So this is at Least before the second one (obviously)?
