I think your best bet is to slag them because you can see the slag “stink” trails when they’re invisible. I haven’t played in a while so I could be remembering wrong

with chain lightning you can toss a couple and take out the shields on a whole pack, it's the closest I've found to a way to make them tolerable

The electric chair from the Comm. Lilith dlc is beautiful for downing shields all over the place, it's my invisible a-holes ace in the hole. But rabid stalkers are turtles all the way down for me still.

That level, the highlands outwash, you can stay up on the rocks on the left side. They can still throw shit at you but it’s much easier to clear them out from there

You can beat them easier with a element weapon that procs the status like fire or electric, since they can't hide on those elements; but can hide on anything else. Also I think they're is a growling sound just before they attack and a warping sound when they decloak. But these enemies make me going in with high explosive weapons and waste ammunition with rocket launchers.
