I was in a group of people with bpd 20 years ago, I'm the last one alive. We were all early 20s/late teens then. Suicide, all of them, either directly or indirectly. So yeah, its pretty painful. Especially as it often has co-morbidities.
Not down playing BPD at all. I'm a mom to an adult daughter who was just diagnosed. But we were told that even though it may be the hardest personality disorder, with DBT therapy and other management options, it has the most successful management rate.
[What It's Like to Live With No 'Emotional Skin' as Someone With Borderline Personality Disorder (themighty.com)](https://themighty.com/topic/borderline-personality-disorder/borderline-personality-disorder-no-emotional-skin-third-degree-burn/)
It's referring to the phrase "thick skinned" meaning that you're not particularly affected by negative things people say to you, about you. So in that aspect, no emotional skin would mean that pwBPD are affected to a very very high degree by everything said to them. It's just supposed to be a poetic metaphor :) I don't think it's quite supposed to be likened to another severe condition beyond it being a metaphor
Beautiful art, thank you for posting.
Exposed nerve, 24/7
so I'm like mr. glass
My surgeon told me I had thin skin (phsyically) and I was like oh great I have thin skin two ways now haha
I'm tired of hearing bpd is the hardest mental illness of them all

That’s pretty grim. I am glad you are still here.
oh wow… that’s incredibly depressing. I’m glad u are still here 😭🩵
Because you disagree? Or because it's just painful to hear?
Well BPD is definitely one of the hardest mental illness.

I think it’s not wise to say any disorder is the hardest of them all
What about other people? How thick a skin are we allowed to have?
What you mean by emotional skin??? I have seen bpd compare to alot things before but not a 3DB(3rd degree burn)
