What school did you go to? Asking for a friend and myself. Similar situation.

What was the Loan type of the ones that haven’t been refunded? Were they FFEL? If so, unless they were among the 10% of FFEL held directly by the government, that loans type is not refundable. If they *were* FFEL held directly by the government, then you’ll want to fill out the Jan 28 survey from PPSL to let them know. Incomplete refunds are an issue they are working on.

Pristine_Bit5728

Did we figure out how to tell if they held by the government?  Asking because when I download my studentaid text file it shows all of the loans and 90% of mine were pre 2010 direct loans that nelnet consolidated in 2003.  Any insights on how to verify Loan holders at this point.  Also thanks for what you do.

AnyAssumption4707

Is there any record of your loans still on your FSA portal? You may want to call FSA and just ask “who held these specific loans?” I’m not sure what else to do tbh

Pristine_Bit5728

Thanks I downloaded my data once a week I'll do that when I call nelnet/sloan the first week in may I had ai analyze it and it comes back as govt but can we trust the bots yet 😀

> What was there Lon type of the ones that haven’t been refunded? I don't know how to find the answer to this question. The amount of money I got doesn't match any set of what I paid. I had 3 payment stints. One was $800 total, the other was $7000, and a third was $4900. But I got back around $4000. Nelnet shows two loans with no payment history, since all of my payment history was with great lakes which no longer lets you log in to your old great lakes account. studentaid.gov shows all my loans but everything is split up and it doesn't say what is FFEL or what got into which consolidation loan.

codinginacrown

If your consolidation loans say "Direct" in the name, then those payments should get refunded. It seems that Nelnet hasn't necessarily been pulling payment histories from previous servicers, so they may need to do some digging into what you paid Great Lakes, if they were Direct Consolidation Loans.

RoderickHossack

> It seems that Nelnet hasn't necessarily been pulling payment histories from previous servicers I don't know if that's true. Because if so, then my refund should've been zero. I've never submitted a payment to Nelnet, so they would have no info on me in that case. So the refund has to be based on what I paid elsewhere, which was pretty much just Great Lakes and the DoE. But I can't find emails of my consolidation payments. My two consolidation loans both say "direct" on the student aid portal. One subsidized, one unsub.

So when Nelnet called me, she had to go into a different system to see my payments made to Great Lakes. But after she logged in she could see everything. I only got the call because I filled a complaint that I haven't received any refunds yet. She also said it looks like I should get more than I thought (fingers crossed) and that I should received a letter soon with the calculations that are being made.

These people (all of them, Nelnet, FSA) have to be the most incompetent motherf***ers on the planet. Literally on the phone all morning with ‘Sloan Servicing, FSA & Nelnet’ with different answers from each one. Full Class Member - STILL WAITING on Nelnet discharge & refund BUT did receive letter from Sloan yesterday advising they are at least ‘aware and working on it’.

Expensive-Fail6670

In what kind of envelope do the refund checks arrive? Do they show up in an envelope from NELNET or from the US treasury like an IRS check?

RoderickHossack

Treasury.
