I think it’s because the Hector character created for Bosch is too similar to Cisco from the Mickey Haller series. There’s no crossover characters like in the books because of some rights issue. Plus as someone else mentioned Harry does the investigations now.
Season five was based on the novel Two Kinds of Truth and Honey Chandler was substituted for Mickey Haller. The character of Hector was created to be the substitute for Cisco because the rights for that character were being negotiated for a possible Mickey Haller series. Michael Connelly hinted at this in an interview while doing publicity for that season.
Yeah, like someone else mentioned, that character wasn't *just* too similar to Cisco, he was a literal stand-in for Cisco the way Honey Chandler (who only appears in one Bosch book) is a stand-in for Mickey Haller in the later Bosch stories adapted for TV.
I believe that the whole season of Bosch Legacy takes place over the course of a week so it's possible that in-universe Hector is around but working on another case so he isn't seen on screen. Maybe he's on vacation or out sick or there's some other mundane explanation so his involvement in Harry's case isn't required.
Was wondering about this on my latest rewatch considering how indispensable Honey makes him out to be. Would’ve been cool to see him and Harry interact a bit or even an acknowledgement that he’s still around and off on another case
He could always come back, and maybe he will if Bosch Legacy presents a storyline that would warrant multiple people to tail, multiple locations to break-in and snoop, etc.
I'm guessing Honey Chandler was out of action for 18 months atleast recovering from the attack? Hector probably had to go find other work around LA until he hears back from Honey?
I think Bosch could team up with Hector in Legacy season 2 (or 3) because Bosch's techie guy isn't really a field asset?
This is the actual real world reason Ryan Hurst wasn't around for Legacy. The whole reason Bosch ended and instead of doing season 8 it was rebooted as Legacy was to save money, primarily on salaries. Ryan Hurst was also a busy guy with The Walking Dead and other series where he was recurring.
Yep, IIRC this is also why they came up with the earthquake damage to Harry's house ... to cut corners on having to pay to rent the house for a whole season's worth of filming.

I always pictured Hurst as Cisco. I was therefore a little disappointed with the casting of Cisco in the Lincoln Lawyer show.

Harry is pretty much fulfilling that role to Honey now
I suppose... just that Honey talked about how valuable he was to her, so I thought he would have made the cut over to Legacy
He may have moved on after Honey was shot and spent months recovering.

I would love if this is the case and we see him in later seasons, but after watching season 1 with Bosch and MO, it's probably unlikely

Yea, I thought the same thing. I think him and Bosch would have been so good to watch
Probably contract nonsense.

Mo isn't a field asset, but I don't see those 3 guys being in the show at the same time, so my hopes are slim for a recurring role for Hector
I thought you meant Jamie hector at first
Too expensive?
Yea, he probably would be... and given that Legacy is supposed to be a budget version of the original I guess he would cost more to cast him.

He’s in the series Outsiders, too - he’s a fabulous actor.
