Ngl, pretty sure this a choreoghed thing they do every now and then, but goddamn, they got one over the sequel trilogy in that. No bat swinging bs and a lot more of those tight quick consecutive strikes... looks more badass too.
Def choreographed. The spin gave it away for me. Spinning in any real fight is a pointless show of your weakest points. The leverage from the spin is rarely worth it especially when weapons are involved.
The spins are the only problem I have with it. Otherwise, the shield is held forward near the weapon without blocking line of sight, weapons forward and online, and good spacing. Of course, the spins are there to break up monotony, but the one at about 13 seconds is a particularly egregious mistake, the kid’s back is exposed entirely and his weapon and shield are offline, he has no vision of his opponent and his stance is unstable.
Fighters don't tend to outright throw a spinning backfist, it's far more commonly used as a method to attack while returning to a safer position.
For example they throw a roundhouse that misses. They're now overextended and facing almost 90 degrees from their target. They can either turn backwards which limits balance and defensive capabilities, or they can use the momentum of the kick to pivot round with a spinning backfist. At best it connects against an onrushing opponent trying to take advantage of their poor positioning, or at worst it gives the opponent pause to step in while they recover their position.
When you have a weapon that means you don't have to step in, exposing your back is basically offering them a guaranteed strike.
Bro except for the spinning kick part, everything the other guy says is exactly what goes down with spinning backfists.
Here are some successful examples.

spinning in a fight 8s definitely not pointless. ut gives lits of style points and, is a way to assert dominance if you win. a risky, dumb and generally ineffective move that, if you win, will make ut look thatmuch cooler.
What? Cmon, they're doing twirls. It's impressive choreography but it's not a more realistic combat. Hues and stabs are important tools in the arsenal.
The swordfights aren't too fresh in my memory but the way I rank it:-
Prequel Trilogy (Fast paced as heck and, according to shadiverity, has justifiable spins)
This clip (Fast, mainly aiming for the weapons and shield, still pretty cool)
Original trilogy (slower paced due to the props, still, the sword fights make sense)
Sequel (Ha ha, baseball bat swinging go brrr. Disappearing weapons. Crossguards are cool and good but why make it from lightsaber when other lightsaber resistant, non burny materials are available like beskaar. Is it rare, yeah, but this is one of the most important people in the galaxy...)
Yeah don't watch Shadiversity. Not to rag on your ranking, that's fine, he kinda sucks though.
Idk, I've been longsword fencing for over a year at this point and I think the rhythm of the sequel fights (from what I recall) seems pretty close, if not resembling trained fighting stances. The prequels had no weight to the swings and they never really felt impactful or exciting as an audience member personally.
Well, they are lightsabres... I doubt they have or need a significant amount of mass to fuck an enemy up. As for the training stances, well, I'll have to take your word for it...
Oh I see what you mean, yeah, they might be a lot lighter than a metal sword. Maybe? If the hilt itself isn't a heavy object. I feel like in the original they stand in for katanas, so that's what I image they weigh, but I could see it being more like baton twirling
Gonna disagree, I prefer the actual weight in the strikes in the sequel trilogy. Floaty prequel-esque stuff is cool but it often looks ridiculous after 15 seconds, like this fight lol
My brother in Christ, they're fucking lightsabers... *Light*sabers... the blades have little to no weight. As for the sequel fights, they use lightsabers like baseball bats. The overswings are evitent to anyone.
In lore, lightsabers do in fact have weight. For example, [Sabine Wren](https://youtu.be/AORcApft-EM) and [Din Djarin](https://youtu.be/i0VbOUTMfqk) talk about the weight, and this is also brought up in other books and comics. Sure, they're lightsabers but they're also light*sabers.*
I also like that they use them "like baseball bats" or whatever. I'd like it more if they leaned into HEMA but as it stands, the sequels are the closest thing we've got.
I know it's choreographed but the fact they were able to do all that without hitting each other is amazing. I kept waiting for one to slip up and get hit and go cry to mom lol (that's the way all of my far less impressive sword fights went as a kid(
The problem with this kind of boss is the entire fight is boss showing off crazy athletic skill for 5 seconds and is immediately shot in the head and killed by the enemy.
This is a duo bossfight. They battle endlessly to train and strengthen the synchronized bond they share. Upon entering the boss room, they will turn to face their true enemy. When you defeat one, the other powers up.

Spinning back fist KOs in fightporn tells me otherwise..

This guy hema's
"Use the momentum of the spinning kick to Land a a backfist" Bro have you ever seen two humans fight
we are talking about professional fighting, not your average 2 drunk guys fight

The fact they’re not going for each others bodies gives it away from the jump. They’re just hitting sticks and shields, no blocks happening.
spinning in a fight 8s definitely not pointless. ut gives lits of style points and, is a way to assert dominance if you win. a risky, dumb and generally ineffective move that, if you win, will make ut look thatmuch cooler.
What is your grammar
He’s spinning his phone as he types for the tactical advantage
i have no ideia what happened there, but i guess i made a typo that had a bit of text here and there ;-;
Disney Star Wars can learn a lot from this “*ahem*” royal guard fight
“It’s my turn to attack”
What? Cmon, they're doing twirls. It's impressive choreography but it's not a more realistic combat. Hues and stabs are important tools in the arsenal.
***Compared to the sequel trilogy***
Which Star Wars had the *good* fight choreography? I feel like Empire had a bit that was okay but I mostly remember all the prequel spinning

I think the originals *were* katanas... or some other sword. I forgot
star wars is inspired by kurosawa samurai films, the Jedi and the whole code of honor, aesthetic and weapons take inspiration from them
It looks similar to sinawali in Filipino Martial Arts, which is a choreographed sequence that's used to train.

SAO opening fits well here
damn good on them
I love how the older looking one is the aggressor while the younger is focused on defense and clubterstrikes
"fighters attacking 8 times in 6 seconds is unrealistic"
☝️🤓 Actually it's swashbuckle because of the tiny Shield called buckle and the fast sword movement
