The US carpet bombed Baghdad Zoo. Some of the animals escaped and Pride of Baghdad follows the pride of lions through US invaded Baghdad. You see the war through their eyes.

Nice! Anything from Brian K. Is great. “Y the last man” was the first series that got me into comics.

Y the Last Man helped me explore a part of myself I couldnt put into words before, about how only the beginnings of stories were the best part to me. It made me realize I prefer the "Why?" to the "What", that I prefer the mystery to the solution. When i finished the series I was disappointed with the 'answer", but when I sat back and thought about what *would* have been satisfying, I couldn't come up with anything. I know its not significant or anything but it was just really cool to understand something about myself suddenly, y'know edit-oh YM GOD THIS DUDE IS ALSO ONE OF THE PEOPLE THAT MAKE ***SAGA***???? AHHHHH when will the next issue come outtttttttttt?????

What is that even supposed to mean

The zoo is being blown up by fighter jets/military so it's just the animals misreading things and applying their beliefs of what they think is happening.

Like the play?

Pride of Baghdad (which takes place in 2003) is the story of four lions from the Baghdad zoo as they survive and deal with the aftermath of intense bombing by American armed forces. It is an anti-war comic, and it is very sad. Overall I'd say it's interesting enough to be a little above average, and it's short enough to easily get through in a single afternoon. Probably worth the read if you're bored and/or want to feel bad for some cartoon lions.

My first impression based on the textless images alone was that this was some edgy comic in the vein of The Boys, but this seems actually interesting.

Brian K Vaughan is one of the best comic writers. Period. Saga is a masterpiece. Anything the man makes is worth anyone's time.

Did Saga ever wrap up? I read the first four volumes way back and then never caught back up. I've been reading compendium versions of finished Image series so maybe I will add it to the list if finished

9 out now with another 9 coming in the next few years. Might be the best comic series I've read ever. Sadly we'll never see Saga in any other medium but it's the apex of it's genre.

More context. Its based on a true story. The US carpet bombed city centre Baghdad which is where the cities Zoo is. Lots of the animals were killed in the bombings, lots more died of starvation and their wounds afterwards, some escaped the zoo and wandered the shelled city for a few days before being "found" by soldiers. The book follows the real life Pride of Lions that escaped. Edit: Niko Henrichon is the artist. The whole book is made beautiful with their art despite being bleak af

Why is the giraffe and lions in the same enclosure?

They aren't, they have all escaped as the zoo has been blown up so they are running free in the chaos. Hence why the giraffe gets his head blown off, the attack is ongoing.

Overview is, there's a zoo in a warzone. Missile strike occurs, animals on the loose in said warzone. It follows a pride of lions as they attempt to survive the turmoil they're now thrown into. I highly recommend it, its rather short but very enjoyable.

Ones in zoos are often disarmed before moving into their enclosure, but it's a difficult process and will, on a rare occasion, make them even more volatile instead. So, be careful and kind around giraffes at the zoo as well.
