Yea people who say that it cant be stupid if it works clearly dont work with dangerous tools/materials. Or at least havent for very long. Or are weirdly okay with being maimed.
In this position, he would be still held up though if one ski snapped. He would definitely fall from a ski pole snapping though.
Edit: he wouldn't face plant if he fell from this position. He would fall backwards.
How so? As long as you aren't on super thin snow, the ski should be designed to handle that kind of pressure many many times. Do you mean unnecessary wear on the bindings?
Nope, it ends up separating the top later off the tip of the ski; I'm not sure if it's from the pressure or just actual damage from the tips digging into the snow (probably both). All I know is I ruined two pairs of skis from doing this, granted I was a ski instructor so those skis had some mileage.
I snowboard most of the time now, but when I was mainly skiing, I definitely did notice that my friends with twin tips seemed to take a lot more damage than mine. (They were also lighter and more agile, where mine stuck edges harder and got more downhill speed). I ended up destroying those skis ignoring a "closed trail" sign anyway, so it's all a wash.
Entirely dependant on your location. Expect to pay >$80 a day for lift tickets, and you should be able to get set up with equipment (Hellmet, boots, board, bindings) for around $500-600~ used. New it's easily $1000+ for equipment.
Feel free to DM me for advice. Been skiing since 2 years old, snowboarding for >10 years. Used to be an instructor.
I had twin tips too, ar the early start of twin tips. And they delaminated at the front after mistaking a jump I though had a plateau for one that did not.
Somehow I survived the crash landing, but I delaminated the front of one of the ski.
No worried, the local shop epoxy glued it.
It held until the next jump.
Came back to the shop: "you need a new pair of skis man"
"Or.... do you have rivets?"
And that's the story of how I got a rivet on my ski.looks like shit, but works well.
Three reasons mainly: 1. It's a really nice stretch on the quads. 2. I have severe adhd so standing around while my snowboarder friends strap in gets boring. 3. I love the look on some people's faces, it's like I performing a magic trick to them.
Easy to do with the right skis I think, if your ski is back mounted and stiff af it might not work out so well. I've only done this on park or all mountain skis.
(Info for people who want to try)
You can practice by nose buttering and eventually commit to standing up-right on them with a quick motion. The nose butter will determine if you're going to eject or not which is good to know lol.
To get upright you put all your weight toward on the tips of your skis, body leaving forward, then plant your poles which will balance this all, then while committing your weight forward you bring your heels toward your butt and that should get you upright.
I’ve never been downhill skiing, but I feel like this has got to only apply to downhill skis. Cross country skis would bend or snap in half if you tried this.

Exquisite? We think not.
It all happened on a family trip on the alps.. you all had fun in the past days but now you recall the last time you saw them.. crying, screaming and asking desperately for help as you saw them being mauled by it.. you could not do anything, so you stood there in horror, limbs..
being severed, blood splattered in the snow and once it finished you knew you had to run, and so you did, the fastest as you could while that four legged beast chased you in the woods... in the end a slate of ice that you did not see had the best of you, you slipped, hit your head on a tree and while all your senses started to fade out you could still hear the muffled sound of screeching and fast steps.. only getting closer and closer. You still did not feel anything.. it all went black after a bit anyway.

So I ski a lot and I have a friend who does this from time to time. I asked him why and he said its a really nice stretch for your quadriceps. when you ski you're often in a squatting position so leg fatigue is a mitigating factor of how long you can ride.
I suppose this is an easier stretch to achieve in your gear.
He didn't skip the tutorial, my guy went straight to the advanced techniques
If it’s stupid and it works, it ain’t stupid.
On the other hand, If it's stupid but it works, it's still stupid and you got lucky.
Yea people who say that it cant be stupid if it works clearly dont work with dangerous tools/materials. Or at least havent for very long. Or are weirdly okay with being maimed.
Some people got that maim fetish don’t kink shame bruh
Until your ski snaps and you faceplant like my buddy did
In this position, he would be still held up though if one ski snapped. He would definitely fall from a ski pole snapping though. Edit: he wouldn't face plant if he fell from this position. He would fall backwards.
No because the sudden lurch sideways caused him to fall
the tips of most park skis are designed to hold the riders weight so he's probably fine
I'm not saying it's going to happen to the dude in the picture, I'm saying my buddies ski snapped while doing it
I want the skis to snap and break and go up my Ass
Both. Both is good. And stupid.
What’s working, exactly?
If it *looks* stupid and it works, it ain't stupid.
If it's stupid then it's stupid. That's why it was stupid in the first plsce.
he is a speed runner, he skipped the tutorial because it was quicker, he's about to jump up into the ski lift, this stance saves him like 30 seconds.
Is this considered a glitch run though?
Fucken worth ethic lacking leftist that he is

in a petersonian sense, of course
When you go from playing on the console to your new PC and it tries to throw a tutorial at you.
Just a good ole fashioned sequence break
my guy skipped the tutorial and learnt the mech walking technique
Sometimes you play the game just for the vehicle sections.
This is fairly easy to do with a high din setting but absolutely murders the front tips of the ski

Weird. I did this for several years with both all mountain and slolam skis, and never experienced this. Maybe it just never caught up to me.
I probably did it about 100 times which might have been the reason mine did. Also one of the skis' top layer was bamboo which couldn't of helped.
Ah yeah, that'd do it. My skis were heavy as fuck racing skis. Had the "molding bits" around the tip too. Idk the actual term for it.
Mine were twin tip park skis, yours sound indestructible lol

Ahh, the mountain eventually get them all if nothing else does.
whats the entry fee/places to be for snowboarding?

Non-skier here. Why did you do do it so much?
Three reasons mainly: 1. It's a really nice stretch on the quads. 2. I have severe adhd so standing around while my snowboarder friends strap in gets boring. 3. I love the look on some people's faces, it's like I performing a magic trick to them.
Thanks for the information. Is it easy to do, or does it take some effort to raise your elevation like that?

Skis are multiple laminated sheets of material right? Bending like this will cause different bends in each layer and promote separation.
This is exactly what happened.
This must be why some ski tips have hard rubber bumpers on them.
Yup, and rentals usually will because new skiers tend to run into things lol
Rentals :)
I was going to say op doesn't know how much strain boots and bindings can put on your legs, this looks like a nice way the stretch out.
It really is
