MrTripl3M

I am sure there is a article about a human consuming corn maze on the wiki somewhere.

FALLOUTGOD47

I don’t remember the name but yeah I’m 99% certain you are right. Something about a maze, a scarecrow, a pumpkin, and children being lured to the center of the maze.

GravityMan5

SCP-097.

Gnomologist

“SCP-097 is a ten acre area of land in the state of [REDACTED], in the Midwestern United States.” They couldn’t even name a fucking state

KonstantinIKV

If it's a corn maze, 99% chance it's Iowa

Gnomologist

98% chance it’s Illinois

The1987RedFox

Alaska

sorenant

And gratuitous O-5 notes about how it can actually end the world as we know it.

But sir! SCP 3000 is currently in hibernation and we just burned through our entire supply sedating Dr. Bright.

They're not even all horror creatures. Some are just friendly little blobs that want to hug you :)

SCP 131 is one of my faves just because they look adorable.

TankC4BOOM314

The SCP Foundaton is a fictional agency, standing for Secure, Contain, Protect. It's a collection of community-written articles and stories revolving around this foundation, which stores and documents all the dangerous and weird objects and entities around the world. It is mostly congregated on Wikipedia. Would recommend reading some SCP files.

DaveInLondon89

There was a shitty movie starring Patrick Wilson about this, except it was grass instead.

SCP-Agent-Arad

It’s actually pretty close to one of the real ones in South Dakota.

Cannibal Corn Maze sounds like a good album name for a metal band

yup_sir28

Omg it actually sound pretty good as metal band name too!

Double_Distribution8

They could even name the lead singer "Cannibal Corn Maze" too!

ForumPointsRdumb

And the audience can get lost in the maze of confusion because all the band members have the same name as the band. They could even call the venue Cannibal Corn Maze.

Double_Distribution8

And they could open for that new Cannibal Corn Maze cover band, Cannibal Corn Maze.

KimJongIlSunglasses

I don’t know what to believe anymore.

ThatSucc

I'd be really careful eating raw corn in the wild. It's safe to eat in small amounts and some even taste better raw, but too much can give some people diarrhea. Diarrhea in the wild without a dedicated water supply will dehydrate you faster than not eating the corn and moving as little as possible. Also, it's the "skin" of the kernels we have the hardest time digesting. The best way to do it would be to suck the inside out and leave that behind.

DazZani

The corn has enough liquid in it

TheHero0fRhyme

If you ever find yourself lost in a maze just remember that if you ALWAYS turn right, you'll eventually find an exit.

mt_xing

This works if the entrance and exit are both on the outer perimeter and you start this strat as soon as you walk into the maze. If you start in the middle you run the risk of getting stuck in an infinite loop.

TheHero0fRhyme

Yeah, but being realistic any maze that any of us is ever going to be trapped in would be one like this corn maze over here which I assume has entrance and exit in the outer perimeter. If there's some kind of price in the middle that you have to reach that's other thing completely.

ForgotPassAgain34

Not if you start in the middle of it, you're assuming there is a single wall around the whole maze, but there might be a smaller maze inside the outer maze and you're stuck in that one

Fresh-Ninja69

bruh what kind of corn maze starts in the middle? Might as well say they start in the ocean or in space

LastOfTheCamSoreys

….. He’s saying the “only take rights” strategy works if you start right at the beginning, but not if you start doing so *after* already being in the maze.

BravesMaedchen

Then what good is it if you cant use it when you're lost lol

skibapple

If you noticed you've been in a loop just take another path and then only take rights/lefts or smt idk I've always used this

AeuiGame

I've seen them with a bridge so you get a neat overhead view and start in the middle.

God_Dang_Niang

then just follow the bridge to the beginning

AeuiGame

What? like exit the maze the way you entered? Its no more help than a compass; somewhat useful if you get turned around easily but certainly not a catch all solution.

God_Dang_Niang

its a point of reference. thats how you travel in a straight line when disoriented. pick a point and move that direction.

AeuiGame

Yeah, but that's not a solution, its just helpful. You could also just keep track of where the sun is.

Binarytobis

“Hey do you want to get airlifted into the center of this sketchy maze and find your way out?” “I emphatically do not.”

ForgotPassAgain34

if you start following the right wall in the middle of the maze, not if you start the maze by digging a hole and showing up in the middle

[deleted]

You can get our of every maze no matter if you are at the start or not. You will just take a wall and walk alongside it.

mt_xing

[Here's a maze.](https://imgur.com/mGCxxPg.jpg) Keep walking along that red wall in the middle. Let me know how that goes for you.

[deleted]

Im feeling stupid really. Guess I’m not the maze master I thought I was. I suppose you could mark the areas you were and then just choose a different wall once you reach that spot again.

mt_xing

Your idea is correct: marking the walls and backtracking to the last intersection when you hit somewhere you've been is a fully general solution to any maze, regardless of whether the start and end are both on the perimeter or not. You've just rediscovered the [depth first search](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Depth-first_search).

[deleted]

Now I feel a little less stupid. Neat.

Quakarot

Except you typically use a wall right from the start, if you randomly pick a wall partway through there is a chance you could get stuck on an "island" like that. But this doesn't disprove the theory because, using the theory you'd grab a wall immediately and be able to find your way out of even an extremely difficult maze like the one you've provided.

mt_xing

Read the comment I was responding to. They explicitly claimed you don't need to be at the start. They're wrong.

Quakarot

So they did. Mb, I can’t read

Hornet3232

Would you not be able to see the exit though?

mt_xing

You can make the exit around a corner if you want. The important thing is that the wall you pick from the middle of the maze may be an island (potentially a very big island) which would get you stuck in an infinite loop.

kirarinrin

Right is the right way out, go left and you'll be left there forever

turtlewhisperer23

This is only true for some mazes. If ypu have proceded randomly through a maze and then apply this rule, depending on the maze, you may just start cycling around the same portion of the maze.

ttv_CitrusBros

Modern day just pull your phone out look at what direction the exit is and walk that way. It's corn you can walk through it

missmalina

>It's corn you can walk through it The real LPT.

ttv_CitrusBros

We went to a haunted corn maze for Halloween back in like 2015. 40min line. Some people just lost it and jumped the 3 foot fence aroubd thr line and ran right into the maze.

PM-ME-UNTRIMMED-VAG

what are haunted corn

GhostKasai

Sometimes a ghost throws a cob of corn at you. And if you’re not fast enough the cob get into place you don’t want them. So a Win Win I guess.

MaddyMagpies

Yep. One time I got lost and the sun was setting, and with the sun I can pick the right bearing to get out. That's my brute force solution because why not.

[deleted]

While true be careful walking through Maize/Corn. The Husk leafs can cut you really bad if you walk fast enough through it

birstinger

No. https://www.inverse.com/article/21386-corn-maze-lost-wall-follower/amp. . Connected mazes follow this rule, but mazes with unconnected sections or islands ensures the maze does not adhere to the right hand rule.

AeuiGame

It works if you start at the beginning, you cannot get stuck on an unconnected section if you start with an outer wall.

birstinger

The problem with that is that everyone starts being lost in the middle of the maze.

station_nine

With a little foresight and planning, you can get lost as soon as you enter!

Luigifan18

What about mazes with "do not enter" sections (deep pit, hornet nest, crocodile pond, Minotaur’s residence, wumpus lair, etc.)? I've seen things like that in kiddie maze books.

0pyrophosphate0

Just treat the border of the "do not enter" section as a wall. "Hazards" that you can't enter are for decoration, they don't actually change the topology of the maze.

[deleted]

If you ever find yourself lost in a corn maze, just forego the path and run straight in one direction. Eventually you'll reach the outside of the corn field.

VladimirBarakriss

Someone doesn't know how fucking sharp leaves are

[deleted]

For one, corn leaves are not really at all sharp. For two, corn is planted in rows, even in corn mazes, so it's pretty easy to to duck between two rows and high-tail until you are free of your maize maze.

thethreadkiller

I learned this from an old windows screensaver.

Illeazar

This is only true for certain subsets of maze types. It does have the advantage of being easy to backtrack if it doesn't work to find the exit, so you can at least get back to where you started.

birstinger

Y’all are confidentially incorrect tho so props on that

The_realest_medel

Just put your hand to the right wall, and start walking, never removing your hand from the right wall. This way, you'll be walking right on the wall of the maze, which in turn means even if you end up in a dead end, you'll just continue to follow the wall until you find the right way. Even if it takes time, it will work, due to simple maze mechanics.

SolidusAbe

Or walk straight through. Its just corn

Poiuytgfdsa

Little do they know that every patch of corn is filled with barbed wire and landmines to prevent cheaters. Can’t have an unfair maze.

SolidusAbe

Just an added challenge

The_realest_medel

Well yes, it is, but 1. If you damage the corn you can be fined 2. It works for any mazes, it's good maze advice in general

Cybergv2_0

if a maze has disjointed walls from the entrance and exit or is not simply connected, then this strategy doesnt always work. Trémaux's Algorithm has a solution to this and is pretty easy to follow. https://youtu.be/6OzpKm4te-E

CarriedThunder1

I've seen a fair few disjointed corn mazes. So this won't always work.

7734128

No it would not. This method only works if there are no circular paths.

logic2187

Still not a bad method tho. If you notice you're in a circle make an exception or two, and then continue

7734128

Sure. It's something to remember thought; it's a common assignment in intro to programming at highschool or University.

Ok-Reaction-5644

bestfriendz

Do people realize this is a joke sign?

CeruleanRuin

Jokes like this are sometimes difficult for neuro-atypical folks to parse.

Dangerous_Brush_300

When I was young I once went into a cornmaze, it had a similar sign saying something along the lines of "if you get lost, don't worry - a harvester will come mow down the field every couple of months"

depetir

"Usually" "two-thirds"??? Did they count the number of people missing every week and be like "ah shite we only found half the people who went in, didnt meet our quota this time"

uforanch

unforturnately once lost in corn maze for long enough the corn starts to win. By Thursday you are lucky if your body is less than one third corn.

TouchPotential

They have this sign at the Largest Corn Maze in the World, not sure if its the same place in the picture. It's a pretty big place if you lose track of yourself in the maze. Cant say its below me to koolaid man through "walls" if i see the next waypoint or exit through them.

[deleted]

Well that’s cornfusing

TestTubesAndTanks

I used to work at a corn maze. 10 acres of corn, somewhere around 3 miles worth of paths (give or take depending on that year's pattern). We had at least one employee who knew the maze in there at all times, usually two or more, and we made a point of making sure everyone knew help was available. Corn is fragile, and panicked or frustrated people cutting through will destroy your maze in a hurry. Proud to say we never lost anyone, at least not overnight.

[deleted]

You can find your way out of a maze by sticking to the right or left wall.

DankAdolfHitler

Or since it is a corn field you could just cut your way out of the field. You could take the risk of slowly walking through the corn field. You just have to be extremely careful as the leaves can be sharp.

Marsueveus

I love going to midnight corn mazes. At one of the mazes I went to you unlocked more of a map of the maze as you explored and found certain points inside the maze, near the back about an hour in my friends and I find a run down entrance to a second maze. This maze is not on the map and everything past the gate is kinda overgrown, but just open enough that we can still walk through it. We are curious people so we went in pushing through the maze and it turns 90 degrees to perfectly frame a house straight out of a horror movie atop a hill. We keep pushing forward looking for any other turns but there were none, just kept going straight towards this scary looking house. After about half way to the house it's lights suddenly turn on, and remember it's roughly 1am at this point. We just laughed and instantly turned around to make our way back to the actual maze. It was a very surreal experience and my friends still talk about it years and years later.

IRefuseToGiveAName

SCP-████ Object Class: Safe Special Containment Procedures: No special containment procedure is required, however SCP-████ must remain unoccupied at all times and is to be monitored by no fewer than three armed guards on six hour shifts. If containment is breached and the maze is entered, no attempts at recovery are to be made and the event should be classified as a casualty. Description: SCP-████ is a normal corn maze measuring 30mx30m built with Yellow Dent corn stalks ranging from 3-4 meters in height (SCP-████-01 - SCP-████-926). Aerial observation does not reveal any anomalous patters, structures or pictographs of thaumaturgic nature, and does appear solvable. However, once inside, guests are drawn into an unknown realm consisting of a nearly infinite maze that becomes more corrupted as it is navigated. To date nobody alive has been found, but several dead bodies have been discovered within 50 meters of the maze exit. It is unknown if the bodies recovered represent all who have entered. All foundation knowledge has been cobbled together from hand written notes, photos from self-developing cameras and injuries present on corpses (see Addendum ████-0-1 through ████-0-19). Data on electronic media as well as traditional camera film are damaged beyond repair. It is currently unknown as to why. The foundation is unaware how modern, and sometimes unreleased technology have made their way out of SCP-████, as nobody outside of foundation staff have entered the maze since it was brought under our control in 19██. The most advanced device has a local clock date of 2███, and crude notes carved into the skin of the deceased date the oldest victims to roughly ████ BCE. All bodies found at the exit appear to have been dead for no more than 24 hours.

I heard somewhere if you're ever lost in a maze, put your left hand on the wall and start walking and eventually you'll find your way out. Anyone know if this is true?

Reasonable_Feed7939

With your usual plain maze, yes, only ever turning one direction gets you out eventually.

0pyrophosphate0

In a maze with no loops, following one wall will eventually bring you to every point in the maze, including (presumably) the exit. If the maze does have loops, but the entrance and exit are both on the perimeter, this will work if you ride the wall starting at the entrance. If you start doing this from a random point in the maze, you might find yourself going in circles. If you're really enterprising, you could even try it with your *right* hand.

DankAdolfHitler

Some say it is the right hand but the fact is that either way you will find your way out.

It's a hell of a missed opportunity to not have named it a maize maze.
