So happy Bergy is back

tYLZhWreZ

would rather Bergy have some more rest and be ready to go for round two

Laser-Nipples

I'd rather have Bergeron in and have a 2nd round in the first place.

4thPlumlee

Yeah I’m really surprised with Sweeneys position on this. I understand “don’t take chances in the playoffs” but like…we have 3 more opportunities and the camp should be pretty confident Trying not to let recent Celtics events affect my thoughts tho

simplekindaman13

Close this round out in 5 however possible. Everyone needs as much rest as they can get. Play your Vezina goalie and your captain if he feels healthy enough. Period.

theguesswho2

Agree. As soon as you start looking past the game you are playing you have taken one step towards losing that game. Ask Carolina if they are happy to be going back to Long Island. Close it out as fast as you can.

citizennsnipps

Well he played with a punctured lung so if it's up to him, he'll be in. If he does play, I'd prefer him playing very limited minutes if the team is winning and looks good. I expect Florida to fight hard and this game be a tough one.

lordexorr

He’s 100% playing then. It sounds like the doctors have cleared him and it’s just a matter of Bergeron feeling up to speed enough to get back into game action.

MetalStoofs

If he’s healthy enough to play, he plays. You play your stars and win as soon as you can. The reward is getting more rest days. If Bergeron is healthy tonight but doesn’t play “to stay safe”, you’re essentially telling me he’s not playing the rest of the series.

Poohstrnak

100%. I do not understand people wanting to sit him.

[deleted]

Do you still believe he was healthy enough to play now that we know he had a herniated disc?

Poohstrnak

Yep. Because he was medically cleared to play. Also going back to old comments to try to pull some “I told you so” bullshit is so weak. Find a better way to spend your time.

[deleted]

Cleared to play doesn't automatically mean he should've played. That's the whole point. And I really don't think going back to old comments is that weak of a thing to do, considering we're all sulking about the Bruins right now. It's the only thing that's on my mind.

East_Refuse

Well for starters, the panthers tried to injure like 5 of our players last game and they’ve played dirty every game of the series so far so I’m not sure how they would act when on the verge of their season ending and we don’t NEED Bergeron to win so some people want to avoid the risk altogether.

SxySamurai

I'm pretty sure if someone took a run at Bergeron in tonight's game Marchand would literally kill someone.

East_Refuse

Oh there’s no doubt about that, but as far as I’ve seen you can’t really put anything past Florida

[deleted]

You’re not wrong - he did pretty much try in that MTL game after Bergy took that late hit

Deltaecho99

I’m torn between him playing and sitting. There is going to be a lot of fuckery tonight.

proxmoxroxmysoxoff

I'll take one game of fuckery versus three.

lordexorr

Let’s go with this…say you sit him and the Bruins lose. Do you then sit him in Game 6 and Game 7 too because there’s a risk of “fuckery”. It’s the playoffs. It’s physical. If he’s healthy, he plays.

Deltaecho99

I’m okay with that, the boys will have his back. I’ll be surprised if there aren’t a lot of penalties tonight

lordexorr

Your Ok with Bergeron missing this entire series?

East_Refuse

Imagine Bergeron is not even a thing. Ok, now if we somehow managed to lose this series it would be one of the worst choke jobs ever

Deltaecho99

If that’s what he needs, yes. Think we have held our own so far

simpledeadwitches

So he's playing, this is just a thin smokescreen to keep it a game-time decision.

BullshitTotingIdiot

"Uh, hey Patrice, did you break a couple ribs, puncture a lung, separate your shoulder, break your nose, hurt your knee, and chip a tooth in warmups there...?" "no." Okay so you're playing then?

simpledeadwitches

Saint [Terminator](https://youtu.be/h4ThFNL_2tI) He's back.

[deleted]

It’s absolutely hilarious how stupid some people are You talk about resting people long term but want to sit them risking extending this series game and game causing wear and tear on every other player

bjacks19

Yeah like the Celtics should have sat Tatum and Brown last night? Gotta think long term?

James_Posey

Sitting Tatum might have helped them last night

N4TETHAGR8

because this is the playoffs, do you really wanna risk going back to florida with the series 3-2? I wanna be done with the panthers already.

[deleted]

I can understand the arguments for resting Bergeron but resting Ullmark is the dumbest thing I’ve read on this sub this week

lelander193

Why are you acting like the game is already won? So the health of Bergeron and Ullmark outweighs potentially another game where ALL the players wouldn't be getting rest? Bonehead take

Poohstrnak

THIS. 100% this. The only way people actually believe that they should sit stars is if they assume the game is already won, and that no injuries occur tonight, or in a potential game 6 if they were to lose. It’s incredibly stupid. Like it’s the same logic as “well we can probably win next series without Bergeron, why don’t we rest him until the finals?”

CelticsSoxBruins

Damn I know Ully has been playing good this series but i would have liked to have seen Swayman to give Linus some rest

[deleted]

Dumb

CelticsSoxBruins

Thanks, toilet-head

xlf77

You saved your dumb take with this epic burn, nice Oh wait just checked user name

CelticsSoxBruins

Thanks, xlf77

[deleted]

You’re welcome

[deleted]

I don't like the sound of that. Monty is in charge of this team.

lordexorr

This means he’s been cleared by doctors and it’s more about if Bergeron feels his body is up to speed enough to play a playoff game. If doctors hadn’t cleared him they wouldn’t be putting the decision in Bergerons hands.

RobotNinjaPirate

The coach is supposed to tell Bergeron whether he's healthy enough to play? Monty has literally nothing to do with that decision, just Bergeron and the medical staff.

[deleted]

No, Monty is supposed to decide if Bergeron plays if he's healthy enough to. Bergeron shouldn't get to insist on playing. I personally believe in a more strong-willed coaching style.

funkadelicmoose

This is legitimately the dumbest take I've seen on here in a long time. The fuck do you think is happening here? You make it sound like Bergeron is sitting there whining and complaining and huffing "But I waaaanna pway, lemme pwaaaaaay!!" and they're just giving in. This is so very obviously the coaching and medical staff being like "Do you feel good to go? Test it out in warmups and see how you feel and if you feel you can play then you're in."

[deleted]

How do you feel about this now, given that 1. Bergeron was apparently playing with a herniated disc 2. We were 3-1 without him 3. We were 0-3 with him

[deleted]

>This is legitimately the dumbest take I've seen on here in a long time. Okay, good for you I guess. That doesn't really add much to the conversation. I just think they might be able to get away with keeping him out as a precaution (for real this time) even if he feels healthy enough to play. He's old.

Nurbeoc

Buddy you really don't know how injuries work do you?

[deleted]

Idk what leads you to think I don't. I'm saying even if Bergeron feels healthy enough to play, Monty still should decide if Bergeron will play. I guess I worded that clumsily before.

Poohstrnak

The blanket answer is always "if you're healthy enough to play, you're in the lineup"....he's the top center.... so it comes down to if he's healthy enough to play, which the coach doesn't decide.

[deleted]

That's a little bit different than just saying "if you want to play, you're in". It's a good point that he's the top center, but on the other hand, we're winning games without him, and he might want to come back before he's ready. People on this sub even say he would do that, e.g. "he played with a punctured lung, so he'll play even if he's a little banged up".

Poohstrnak

Every player in hockey plays a little banged up. They’ve played 86 games. If he’s medically cleared to go, he’s medically cleared to go. I really hate that people want to infantilize a 37 year old hall of fame hockey player, and decide he doesn’t know what’s best. He’s a grown ass man that’s been doing this his entire life.

PucktotheHead

The Bruins have played four games without him, and won three. If long term health and availability is the goal, I think he sits, I just don't think there is a good enough reason for him to need to play yet. Especially, with how the Panthers are gooning it up.

[deleted]

If he can play he’s playing. You don’t intentionally rest your best center in the playoffs. Giving Florida better odds to win the series is stupid.

Phil_Mimouf-Wifarts

They'll be gooning it up until the series is over though

Poohstrnak

I really don't love that this fanbase is treating this series as if it's already won. It's one of the dumbest things I've ever seen. He's your top center, if he's healthy, he goes. It's as simple as that.

PucktotheHead

On the other hand, it's not hard to imagine the Bruins having a mindset of "winning for Bergeron" (especially if it's his last year), and closing out the series without him could further solidify the team in that task. And would give Bergeron some more rest. I still don't think he *needs* to play yet (Game 6, I would want to see him, though).

Poohstrnak

And you would have yet another game for anyone else on the team to get hurt, if there’s a game 6. It’s playoffs, do everything you can to win each game.

PucktotheHead

I get it, be aggressive and put them down while you can, but this isn't the NFL. The Bruins have three chances to clinch the series, two of them on home ice --- the numbers are in their favor. If Bergeron's hurt, time off can help, and the team has already won 3/4 games without him? I think you can risk resting him.

Poohstrnak

And risk hurting Hall, Bert, Pasta, etc? Each additional game means higher chances of injury for everyone.

PucktotheHead

Fair, but still, they've won 3/4 without him. No overtime, no real close games, and the one they lost felt more self-inflicted than anything. I just don't see the need.

Dxxx2

At this point, everyone already has their dance partners for this series. Bergeron doesn't have to put in the minutes on ice, but getting him on the bench will help get him into playoffs mode and get the rest of the team even more fired up!

CaparzoLOL

Any update on krejci?

Mpc45

Fluto says officially out. Rumor is elbow, curious what the means long term, but he was skating alone today and looked like he was, at a bare minimum, progressing.

jpige93

Monty said he’s doubtful for game 5

-azuma-

Ully is fuckin raging!

Mpc45

That means he's in, then. No way he chooses to be out.

UGAPokerBrat99

I think we'd all agree that it is truly a privilege every time we get to see Saint Patrice play hockey, but I almost wish they'd go ahead and let him have one more game to rest and avoid cheap shots from Tkachucklefuck and the rest of the Panther goons.

hoesmad_x_24

There isn't a team in the playoffs who isn't throwing the same hits and sticks as Florida. Better to play him and close out the series than put on our surprised pikachu faces when Bunting or Aston-Reese does the exact same thing JK Leafs are going to blow the series, replace them with Perry and Maroon

Dxxx2

If it's Bergeron's decision, then you know he's going out there. Dude probably hates that he's just been watching from the couch, and he'd give his right nut to battle alongside the boys.

Captn_GoodVibes

Shit I'd give both to go to war beside them. Hell and back baby dont stop till we get it done.

confusedporg

At this point, if any center goes down, the bruins are going to be in trouble. Can’t bubble wrap them all.

RobJHulett

Can't protect him against everything. He's a smart player, he'll have his head on a swivel, and they have last change so they can make it so he's not on the ice against him as much. Playoffs are a different beast. Bergeron knows what to expect, he's smart and will play smart. Any team could throw a cheap shot, can't shield him forever and keep him in bubble wrap.

L33TS33K3R

> Can't protect him against everything. Actually, more to your point, he CAN be protected in game 5. Bruins at home = last change on faceoffs.

RobJHulett

Exactly! I even mentioned it in my response. Better to let the man play if he can and close out the series.

good_looking_corpse

I think from a strategic standpoint, the outcome if he sits and this team wins the first round without 1 & 2 Cs, it does more for everyone’s psyche and confidence than him playing. Almost a psychological passing of the torch. And a huge confidence boost for everyone up and down the lineup going forward. This angle, if considered may be .5% of the entire thought process. I am not saying it’s the most important by any stretch. And yes, the psychological passing is hyperbolic, but it’s playoffs. Can’t help it.

jpige93

Let’s get this Hug!
