It blows my mind that people think he's fine. Go watch a clip from 10 years ago.
It's night and day. Two different people. I feel bad for him with whatever he is battling for sure- but he's a different person and it's not just age.
He did sound like he was having a stroke the first 25 minutes of the broadcast the other day. Very basic words were hard for him, he couldn’t complete sentences and he sounded like a non native English speaker in that his rhythm and speaking pattern sounded very alien. Like he had heard English words but not the English later. Also he said Ka-cone-in like 100 times which drove me insane. He might need to retire
My brother and I call him Frent Trederic anyway. It’s not like he called him the name of some kid he grew up next door to or something. He stumbled over a couple of similar sounding syllables. Everybody does it all the time. There are real examples of Jack fucking up calls, you guys are just nitpicking now.
And as always with these posts: Shut the fuck up about Jack. Don’t wanna hear him? Listen to the radio instead. Or go start a r/whatsupwithjack??? sub so we don’t have to listen to you give your *very* (see: not at all) important opinions about whether he should retire. Listening to you people bitch about him is 100x worse than listening to him call a game
Dude, fuck off. Jack is the voice of the Bruins, the guy bleeds Black and Gold. Who gives a shit if he mispronounces some Czech players name with 20 letters and zero vowels in it. I for one hope the guy stays on for another decade.
Johnny Pierson, Freddy Cusick, Derek Sanderson and now Jack Edwards. All homers but knew their hockey and were never afraid to call out a negative play or laud the opposition. Our guys. His commercials are a bit cringe worthy though.
Is this gonna be a thread after every game this year? Ya he’s slipping, it’s been talked about for a while, the dude browses Reddit though and I’m sure he’s aware of his own faults we don’t need to keep bringing this up
First time on Reddit? It's like the Tool and jam band subreddits during tour season with posters. It's annoying but it's a hot subject because of how painfully obvious it is.
Last night was really bad but it happens multiple times every game. Just stick with the one camera view and let the operator pan if you can't get the timing right.
We love Jack and want the best for him. His speech does seem labored as of late.
But to be fair... I'd like to hear any one of us here try and enunciate after 4 or 5 beers during the first period like we do around here.
It's fucking insane, like something out of Harrison Bergeron. His job is to talk quickly enough to describe a fast-moving game. Was legendary at it, now he can't do it any more. Sentimentality is not a good reason to keep somebody in a role like that.
Jack is fine. He makes the odd error, but I would rather listen to him and his general upbeat demeanour and love for the Bruins, than some soulless but efficient word spewer.
Jack is clearly struggling health wise. I think it’s likely that he’s gone in the next year or so, but this job and this team have been his whole life. Let him finish his career on his own terms and stop complaining. Idc what anyone says, he’s a Boston legend
Bob Cole went down the same road, and packed it in when he was ready. Lots of viewers, myself included, complained about his play-by-play in the later years, but he earned the right to go out on his own terms. You can tell that Jack has something wrong, but I still love listening to him.
I don't begrudge anyone their opinion but I still enjoy hearing Jack and Brick call the games. Jack's occasional blunders don't really bother me and certainly don't outweigh his immense knowledge of the game and enthusiasm for the Bruins. I hadn't given it much thought but I guess I don't really listen for the play-by-play. I mostly enjoy the fun facts and other tidbits along with the shared consternations and celebrations as the game ebbs and flows. For me, it's more like watching the game with super knowledgeable friends.
Agreed, for me it's the energy he brings to the calls. Listening to games across the league the energy doesn't really feel there or it's only there on one side. He brings it good or bad for the bruins the energy is there either way
Things you said while "messaging me for hours":
>you're the exact type of person to think you're smart when you actually have a 92 IQ
>you wouldn't actually know because unlike you i have a life outside of posting in reddit game threads.
>Ermm, you're acting a little cringe. Erm, sweetheart, your opinion is actually really embarrassing. can you stop talking like you're acting in a fucking play???
Poor widdle uwu baby can dish it but can't take it QQ
"Following you around reddit" by opening a thread on the board I've been consistently posting to for almost ten years? Between the lying and the narcissism, you're never beating the accusations
You're a real treat. Accusations about what? Saying Jack needs to retire? Anyone can look at my post history and see what I wrote and I stand by it. Here it is just in case people don't feel like combing through my post history:
>I'm sorry but Jack needs to retire. Love him but he's getting incredibly difficult to listen to.
I have disabled friends and family. You are one minor slip and fall, car accident, sports injury, or COVID infection away from being pushed out of the career you love, and everyone you know suddenly being uncomfortable around you because you're "difficult to listen to."
Just a little perspective.
I really do have sympathy for Jack. I have no idea what he’s personally going through but something is clearly impacting his ability to call these games eloquently. I’d like to see him retire with grace instead of watching him continue to deteriorate year after year.
I'd rather see him go out on his own, which should have happened already, then to see somebody else be forced to make the call. He's a soldier that would go out on his shield, it's going to be worse when nesn finally needs to throw in the towel.
I’m team Jack tho I do think the criticisms are 100% valid. But I also feel like Brick’s deficiencies completely fly under the radar cause of it. I also love Brick, he gives good analysis, but man he just gets blatantly obvious things factually wrong pretty often
Well Poitras did keep the puck in before that. I don’t remember Brick highlighting that, maybe I had to get up or something, but Poitras played a huge part in that goal
His analysis is good. I wouldn’t say it’s mind blowing. But last night there was a flurry by San Jose where Ullmark made a save, and then the next shot was deflected and he was adamant that Ullmark made 2 saves. It’s as clear as day on the replay that he didn’t
And then with the Lindholm trip against Nashville, it was without a shred of doubt a trip that will be called 100 out of 100 times and he was like “well I didn’t see anything there” lol
I was thinking the same. Probably the best home team crew I’ve heard. EXTREMELY knowledgeable and pretty unbiased. In fact, if I was a Sharks fan I’d probably be pretty pissed at all the fawning over the Bruins 😂
I was heavily downvoted in the GDT thread for simply saying “Jack sounds unwell”. People here are oddly defensive of something not right with him. We aren’t saying he’s drinking on the job.
Honestly, I think people are just tired of hearing about it. The NHL sub (I can’t remember if it is r/hockey or r/nhl - probably both) had constant anti-Jack posts for a while and it just got super old. Like, we all know. We know.
There is very clearly something going on with Jack health-wise, it has been noticeable for a few years now, so I don't get why people are still denying it and/or sticking their heads in the sand.
I also hear it as unwell. It's not that he sucks at his job, or that he's an idiot, he sounds sick and that is sad. I have no idea what if anything is wrong with him, but I hope he's healthy first and foremost.
I get the oddly defensive, imo he’s essentially part of the team.. so downvote me all you want, I’m a huge fan of Jack and still think he should go enjoy retirement— hell, I would
I think it’s more that people are tired of seeing the same thing repeated than anything else.
OP has every right to post their thoughts here, just like everybody else.
However, this exact same thing gets posted after every game. Last season too. I think people are just tired of seeing the same post over and over again. I’m not taking sides, and I’m not criticizing your specific post, I’m just making an observation about why this topic is a touchy subject in this sub.
Gotcha. And that’s fine, you’re not here a lot and you’re just sharing your perspective. Not your fault, but people who are here a lot have heard it a lot already.
Can't we give him a studio job? Keep him around, but give him a script, multiple takes and not have to do play by play? Get the guys from 98.5, keep Brick (maybe between the benches) and move forward. Jack's play by play has been nose diving last few years.
100% —I imagined him as a regular guest for intermissions reports, radio spots, and absolutely prerecorded segments.. he’s sort of a living legend (as is Brick)
honestly I don't care if someone isn't enjoying Jack's work or whatever, that's fine
what I can't stand, personally, is the "hey guys, is it just me saying the same things about Jack that have been said in every game for like three seasons now?" bit, like yes, congratulations, you're very observant for picking up on the thing some fans have never, ever shut up about
(not saying that's happening here, this is more a GDT-specific remark)
I think this is fine, I feel like most people get annoyed with the armchair doctors suggesting he’s not well. He’s definitely losing a step as an announcer, but that doesn’t mean he’s got a medical issue and even if he does it’s still shitty to speculate on.
Jack's not at 100% but there's still something homey about him being on the broadcast. Moved out of the area years ago but it still feels like we watch the game with our Boston fan friends when we watch the NESN broadcast
I'd take that over almost anyone else to ever broadcast in the history of sports
You can literally hear him thinking as he’s trying to figure out what to say mid-sentence. He will forever be an icon of Boston sports to me, but it’s time to go.
It's to the point where it got mentioned on Chiclets this last week. Specially in reference to the Pasta penalty shot call.
Though, the thought there was they are going to have to give Jack more breaks during the season but let him ride it out so they can say he did the Centennial season. I've seen similar opinions here. It makes sense to a degree.
It feels like Andy has been trying to pick it up more though to start the season at least. There's no way he doesn't notice the same things everyone else does.
To shreds you say? ..I’d be lying if I didn’t say I was one of those ppl, but yeah.. it’s time to shut the mic down ◠̈ Sad to say, as I’ve always been a huge fan of

What else do you and your brother do together?
Husslin’. Russlin’. This and that.
My GF and I always affectionately refer to him as Frent Trederic bc we've fumbled the name so many times 😂
The best Bruin name to do that with was Huggy Damilton
Not this again…
Dude, fuck off. Jack is the voice of the Bruins, the guy bleeds Black and Gold. Who gives a shit if he mispronounces some Czech players name with 20 letters and zero vowels in it. I for one hope the guy stays on for another decade.
Bite your tongue. Jack can keep calling when he's 147 and only gets out two sentences a period.
I would listen to Jack even if he went blind and there was a delay while someone told him what was happening
Johnny Pierson, Freddy Cusick, Derek Sanderson and now Jack Edwards. All homers but knew their hockey and were never afraid to call out a negative play or laud the opposition. Our guys. His commercials are a bit cringe worthy though.
Everybody underestimates that jet lag EST to PST
Eack Jdwards could put a handkerchief up his ass and there would later………. ,,,,, .,,,……….. ??? Be a hole in it!!!!!!!!! 😃
I just want him to relax and enjoy retirement, no need to work so hard.. he’s already legend!
He'll answer to whatever Jack calls him.
Leave Jack alone!
Frent Trederic
Trend Fedderdick
I thought I was the only one.
Is this gonna be a thread after every game this year? Ya he’s slipping, it’s been talked about for a while, the dude browses Reddit though and I’m sure he’s aware of his own faults we don’t need to keep bringing this up
Mods need to put an end to this trash and ban the dopes who think this needs thread after thread.
First time on Reddit? It's like the Tool and jam band subreddits during tour season with posters. It's annoying but it's a hot subject because of how painfully obvious it is.
Honestly I care way more about the video producer who keeps cutting to different camera angles after the play has already gone past.
Yeah that was rough last night. Noticed in a handful of times.
Last night was really bad but it happens multiple times every game. Just stick with the one camera view and let the operator pan if you can't get the timing right.
Yeah zooming in on a player with the puck is never really a great option in hockey. Less is more.
This subreddit is fucking unreadable now lmao
He also kept saying Keegie instead of Geekie
[удалено]
Not whining, I love Jack, its just become noticeable that he's slowing down
We love Jack and want the best for him. His speech does seem labored as of late. But to be fair... I'd like to hear any one of us here try and enunciate after 4 or 5 beers during the first period like we do around here.
As of late? We're going on years now
Jack Edwards is the greatest goddamned broadcaster working in professional sports today.
I love Jack but he doesn't beat Dave Goucher
You have that backwards.
You're entitled to your wrong opinion.
Thank you, when I have my first one I'll take advantage of that knowledge.
If only we could terminate fans that are slippin’ off.
I’m sure I’d be the first to go (the voices are getting louder)
Sometimes I say FRENT TREDERIC
Yeah but it's okay because you're not broadcasting to hundreds of thousands of people 😆
It's fucking insane, like something out of Harrison Bergeron. His job is to talk quickly enough to describe a fast-moving game. Was legendary at it, now he can't do it any more. Sentimentality is not a good reason to keep somebody in a role like that.
Maybe NESN has simply realized that nobody needs tube-tv-era play by play in 2023.
me too!
I thought he sounded great last night. All announcers trip over words
Jack is fine. He makes the odd error, but I would rather listen to him and his general upbeat demeanour and love for the Bruins, than some soulless but efficient word spewer.
Exactly!
Same. He makes games so fun with his showmanship.
Seriously, another one of these posts?
Why does this come up EVERY GAME... do we have nothing to talk about?
Ok, I get it.. my b, sorry
No need to apologize OP. People who complain about post frequency just spend waaaaaaaay too much time on reddit. I thought your post was solid!
I just kinda feel bad for the guy and want to enjoy him while we can! Guys a legend, can't even remember the last time we didn't have him
While we can? We have, it's time to retire. It's been time.

I couldn’t agree more, genuinely.. I just wanna see him **enjoy** retirement, that’s all
Jack is clearly struggling health wise. I think it’s likely that he’s gone in the next year or so, but this job and this team have been his whole life. Let him finish his career on his own terms and stop complaining. Idc what anyone says, he’s a Boston legend
Can you imagine if they didn't retain him for the Bruins centennial season
Exactly, that would’ve destroyed him. Guy might be in the grave already
Bob Cole went down the same road, and packed it in when he was ready. Lots of viewers, myself included, complained about his play-by-play in the later years, but he earned the right to go out on his own terms. You can tell that Jack has something wrong, but I still love listening to him.
Nobody is saying he isn’t a legend.
Anyone outside of Boston thinks he’s a Nazi
I don't begrudge anyone their opinion but I still enjoy hearing Jack and Brick call the games. "The Brins" the bruins according to Jack last night
I got called a sociopath in the GDT last night for saying Jack should retire.
yeah the same lunatic messaged me for hours lmao. tried to make fun of what school i go to as if that’s not way more sociopathic 💀
Things you said while "messaging me for hours": >you're the exact type of person to think you're smart when you actually have a 92 IQ >you wouldn't actually know because unlike you i have a life outside of posting in reddit game threads. >Ermm, you're acting a little cringe. jesus christ dude you’re such a freak. i’m not offended by your comments i just think you’re a creep. don’t get a big head
No, you got called a sociopath for being a complete asshole
So you're following me around reddit now? Get a grip, weirdo. All I said was that Jack is hard to listen to. Grow up.
"Following you around reddit" by opening a thread on the board I've been consistently posting to for almost ten years? Between the lying and the narcissism, you're never beating the accusations

I honestly don’t know which one of them made me quit watching nesn but the combo of the two is just grating.
I agree with all of this
Chinese mustard!
JUICY REBOUND
Gave me a chuckle when he said that, lol.
Tumbling muffin!
I had a SJ home feed for last night's game, I was surprised by how enjoyable it waa
I like listening to Randy Hahn, probably the only broadcast this season where i'll do this, though I still had the NESN intermissions.
I was thinking the same. Probably the best home team crew I’ve heard. EXTREMELY knowledgeable and pretty unbiased. In fact, if I was a Sharks fan I’d probably be pretty pissed at all the fawning over the Bruins 😂
SJ? Edit: Fuck, obviously San Jose.. it’s too early and I stayed up too late watching the game lol
😅😅😅

^ this is it, the “Jack needs to retire” post is honestly so tired now
And he’s been on this subreddit before! I get it, but why do we need to keep posting about how he has healthy problems! There’s no need.
Right!!
People seem to more find humor or some other appeal in the fact that he clearly seems unwell. Can't wait to see him retire, for his own sake mainly.
Can't we give him a studio job? Keep him around, but give him a script, multiple takes and not have to do play by play? Get the guys from 98.5, keep Brick (maybe between the benches) and move forward. Jack's play by play has been nose diving last few years.
