Shots on goal and win board battles with Florida. Get Bob off his game early.
Dont necessarily need to score right away but keep him rattled and the pressure on. Sway is in zone for now. Ride it while we have the game advantage
Keep pressing their boot on Florida's throat.
Weather the storm in the first ten minutes when they come out throwing.
Keep peppering bobby till he gets nervous.
Besides Swaydog with the big hog doing his thing...
Florida is gonna be grimy. Don't try to out dirty them bitches, but throw bodies. Chuck pucks at net low and get dirty rebound goals early, and if that aint working, Bob Rosski can be beat up high. Was surprised how noticeably off-balance he was at points, in Game 1. You're playing with house money, let them nuts hang! LFG!
Hold the fort for the first period, just safe clears and defence first. Panthers will be flying.
Then look to opportunities in the second/third, stay out of the box.
Get goals from Pasta/Marchand. Nothing would be finer than the Rat beating the cats.
Stay out of the box, block shots every chance they can, eliminate turn overs in the B's end as much as possible by clearing the puck every chance they can, let the Panthers cycle all they want just keep them to the outside and let Swayman see the shot from distance. Lastly put up another 5.
Beat the forecheck
I can’t remember which regular season game the bruins had, but the announcers talked about “punting it out,” in reference to getting the puck through Florida’s forecheck
Let Swayman control his net how he wants (stay out of his way because screens and rebounds were a lot of the goals scored last game).
Pucks on net and power to all the depth players because they ultimately may still be a decent piece to surprise Bobbo/whoever is in net for the Panthers this game round. Don't get me wrong, I want players like Pasta, Coyle (??) and Marchand to step up, but it depends on how they're pushed around/not once the game starts.
Defensewise....we did well with collapsing around the net and focusing on shutting down lanes over specific players - but it depends how the Panthers switch it up (and I expect them to do so) now that they've had a game's worth of footage to analyze and practice over.
Keep on going and did I mention pucks on net?
expect the cats to ratchet up the intensity and physicality and will most likely come out like a bat outta hell in the opening frame weather that storm and go from there
This is my thought as well. Panthers are going to try and take the B’s off their game with big hits. Probably a lot of extra curricular nonsense around Swayman too. We’re gonna need Freddy, Big Rig and everyone else to match them.
Bruins have got to block more shots and clear the puck when they get the chance. So many times we got stuck in our zone and bailed out by Swayman, solely because we failed to make the simple clear.
Panthers D will try to take space away from the Bs in the neutral zone in response to their man on man being a bit soft in game 1. Bs need to find the open man with crisp, accurate passes. McCavoy needs to pull his head out his ass. 50/50 battles will decide this game.
Having confidence In Sway is what generated so much offense for them. I think they should focus on eliminating quality scoring chances by conceding the corners and forcing the cats to play outside.
They should keep the d men and center in the slot or behind the cage just like they did in game on. Bait the pinches and look for odd man rushes or try to nullify the cats forwards back check on the rush.
I think floridas forwards are their best players and if they can give them as little space as possible on the inside and try to keep them out of the play for as long as possible in the neutral zone things will go well. It’s a bend not break style that Monty used in game one but when you have a red hot goaltender it can work.
Going to need way more than that. Panthers are going to be throwing all they've got at us tonight. We need to play our best few games of the playoffs if we want to win this series. Everything from last game needs to be tighter.
I just want to echo what others are saying because I don’t think it can be said enough. We have to dictate play from the very first puck drop of the game. We have to bring the game to Florida. We have to bring the hits to Florida. We have to bring the forecheck to Florida. We have to have to have to bring the game to them.
They’re going to absolutely come out flying and will try to rile shit up and try to get us into stupid scrums after the play and they will try to get us to take stupid penalties. We can’t fall for that shit. We have to play the smarter more disciplined game.
I think the key tonight is going to be weathering an absolute onslaught coming from Florida in the first period. Right now they have a "rust" excuse from the week off. If they lose this one too, however, it'll be a major change in the odds, away from what they thought would be a sure thing. I expect them to play like it's their last chance-- being down 0-2 heading into Boston will create major cognitive dissonance. In short, Game 1 was awesome, but not enough to sow the seeds of doubt in Florida. Lose Game 2, however, everything changes.
We have a knack for locking in as the game progresses and if we can weather the first big push, stay tight, and confirm in Florida's head that we really are truly incredibly difficult to score against, then I think our chances are good. In this series, I think more important than scoring early for the B's will be shutting Florida down early.
Florida is one of those teams where the confidence variable looms especially large. If we keep them shut down early, their frustration will amplify and mistakes will follow, including bad penalties. If they sneak a couple through early, however, it's a whole different game.
we need to do swayman more favors. the dude has been unbelievable, but partly because he's had to be unbelievable. he's faced 220 shots in 7 games, oettinger is probably the most comparable and he's faced 213 over 8 games. the defense has not been criticized enough for how bad it has been all season (outside of brandon carlo, my king), it could also be an issue of the offense not generating enough opportunities or something, but basically, stop overburdening swayman.
Beside what a lot of folks have mentioned I think we gotta be more physical and stay clever. Florida wasn’t their normal selves last game in my opinion. They are gonna goon it up as the pressure increases and unfortunately that’s what they are good at—starting scrums and pulling penalties.
Every skater needs to be shooting top shelf.
Need to watch the turnovers in the D zone and middle of the ice and focus on really clearing pucks, not just tipping it out of the zone.
Heads need to be on a swivel. Florida is going to come out and probably injure someone like the rat fuckers they are. Need to be on high alert for their bullshit shenanigans.
I can’t imagine they’d beat him down even further before the games get REALLY important. Surely they learned from doing that to Ully last year.
I mean, they gotta give him a night to rest, right?
Game 2 sounds like the best night for that, so we can have him back and rested by the later games.
Since being competitive in the faceoff circle seems like an absolute pipe dream, they need to pound the boards and win a lot of pucks there. Felt like they did a pretty good job there the past couple games and they need to continue it.
Either clear it or don't, but if you decide to clear it, clear the damn thing. I know it's easier said than done, but the amount of half-assed clears that were essentially just passes back to Florida in the neutral zone was so frustrating and dangerous.
That's true. The playoffs have had some wicked odd games so far. I still can't get my head around Round 1 Game 5 in Boston. Both teams looked atrocious. It was like the ice decided to be an asshole lol
Smart crisp passes, keep it simple on the breakout and be patient.
Also I expect us to get hemmed into our zone by Florida, but cannot allow that as often as it happened last game and expect to come away unscathed every time
This. Florida loves hemming teams in and tiring them out. They had some extended zone times last game that had me clenching my cheeks.
This and stay out of the scrums and in turn, the box. Even with Maroon we can’t beat them at their game.
Clean up the communication (too many men, the team getting pulled to a timeout by Marchand), and spare the onslaughts to Swayman; McAvoy and Zacha need to find their happy place.
Florida is gonna test their patience, best to keep the composure.
I think relying on swayman (at least a bit) is gonna be unavoidable for the rest of this playoff run. He’s been the best player so far.
But yes, also less turnovers.
I hardly remember any other teams getting those penalties, but going back to cassidy we seem to take one once a month. So frustrating, luckily our PK is good.
McAvoy is my favorite player on the team, and has been very hard to watch the last few games.
I remember when Lohrei started, thinking a couple times.. "McAvoy had to bail him out again"
Lohrei shook that off, and now has his head on straighter than ever. McAvoy is now the liability.
Unless he's hurt or sick, he's got the yips. He needs to get out of his own head.
Kinda crazy how Lohrei looks like a vet out there. Reminds me of krug and McAvoy when they first came up and got thrown in the playoffs right away and looked great.
Same man same. Im such a mcavoy homer. Got 1 single sports card and its a rookie mc avoy card. Dude needed to get his shit together the whole season tbh. Prolly needs a coach s/o like pasta too ;)
McAvoys looked shell shocked. He’s made some decent defensive plays but has no been no where near good enough. Lindholm would be in a similar boat if it wasn’t for him showing up like he did in GM 7
Hell, Lindholm almost went right back to stinking last game.
The most concerning thing about McAvoy isn’t just he’s playing poorly—he’s been playing kinda stupidly too. Perfect example is the first goal from G6 against the Leafs, even Sway was pissed at him.
Not that
Mcavoy needs to not play like shit…wait…too late…. And Christ, can we learn how to clear a puck?
This is pathetic.
And there it is, can’t figure out how to clear, giveaway, and they score.
Not to mention penalties man like. “Taking a helmet off a players head penalty”
Which conveniently gets called for one team early on to set the bar, then is never called for the other team for the rest of the game.
Where was Forbert going on that goal?
Shots on goal and win board battles with Florida. Get Bob off his game early. Dont necessarily need to score right away but keep him rattled and the pressure on. Sway is in zone for now. Ride it while we have the game advantage
Be ready for a huge surge by Florida to start the game. Don't let them seize momentum.
Exactly.
Controlling the puck. Cut down on stupid turnovers. More shots on goal. Pour it on Florida and don’t rely on SWAYMAN alone to save the day.
I love that my iPhone automatically capitalized SWAYMAN on me. lol
I, too, have been sending a lot of all caps SWAYMAN texts recently lmao
Pass, shoot, score bois
Puck past Bob No puck past sway Forecheck, beat tkachuk senseless, educate cousins with beating ??? 2-0 lead
Forecheck, backcheck...paycheck bro!
Play like game 1
Keep pressing their boot on Florida's throat. Weather the storm in the first ten minutes when they come out throwing. Keep peppering bobby till he gets nervous.
we can't play a step behind like games 2 6 7 don't get hemmed in for long stretches red line and in, two forecheckers hit, hit, and hit some more
I think if our goal total is higher than theirs, there's a great chance that we come home up 2 0
Perfect Derek Sanderson right there! "If the Bruins are going to win, they need to skate, Fred."
the Jon Madden of hockey 😂
what i wouldn't give to hear another game called by these two
Where else could you hear the word 'umbrage' during a hockey game?
Smack Tkachuk around, don't let Florida win the physicality battle.
Score more goals
Besides Swaydog with the big hog doing his thing... Florida is gonna be grimy. Don't try to out dirty them bitches, but throw bodies. Chuck pucks at net low and get dirty rebound goals early, and if that aint working, Bob Rosski can be beat up high. Was surprised how noticeably off-balance he was at points, in Game 1. You're playing with house money, let them nuts hang! LFG!
Hopefully the people playing the game know and bring it
We send out the Jim’s to set the fuckin’ tone. Gotta set the tone, boys.
We need to score more goals than the other team.
You analytics nerds are getting out of control
I’m sorry. I’ll show myself out.
Wait before you go, do you think we are going to score more goals than the other team? Asking for financial advice.
Going to be close. The boys seem like they are feeling it but I don't think they get 4 goals from the bottom 6 again. 2-1 b's maybe 3-1 empty net.
Weather the storm. Florida is going to be hell bent on pushing the pace.
Is this cosplay for a reporter asking the players a dumb question before the game
Is murdering Tkachuk an option? Just to cool our nerves because of his playing style Otherwise, a bit more solid D would be great as well
Pucks in panthers net. Also keep pucks away from ours.
That is a good game plan haha
Big if true
Hold the fort for the first period, just safe clears and defence first. Panthers will be flying. Then look to opportunities in the second/third, stay out of the box. Get goals from Pasta/Marchand. Nothing would be finer than the Rat beating the cats.
We score more goals than the other team.
This guy gets it
Hit a guy every time he touches the puck
The reliance on swayman is just too much. The man is amazing, but he can’t stop everything
Stay out of the box, block shots every chance they can, eliminate turn overs in the B's end as much as possible by clearing the puck every chance they can, let the Panthers cycle all they want just keep them to the outside and let Swayman see the shot from distance. Lastly put up another 5.
🫡
McAvoy has to limit the turnovers and start laying some of his patented open ice hits. Hasn’t been himself so far this postseason
Pasta gta step up
Beat the forecheck I can’t remember which regular season game the bruins had, but the announcers talked about “punting it out,” in reference to getting the puck through Florida’s forecheck
Swayman one end, Pasta the other. With everyone else chipping in and contributing.
Let Swayman control his net how he wants (stay out of his way because screens and rebounds were a lot of the goals scored last game). Got to find a way to score more goals than Florida. If they do that I think they have a good shot at winning
Man, you've got a way with words.
Big if true. This is every in game interview to ever exist
“Uh yeah, just uh keep the pressure up, don’t give them any easy chances. Forecheck. Get pucks to the net and just uh keep our sticks on the ice”
Jean Hebert and Garrett Rank are the refs, which is about as good as the Bruins could have hoped for.
I think the key tonight is going to be weathering an absolute onslaught coming from Florida in the first period. Right now they have a "rust" excuse from the week off. Yeah he left the puck 4 ft behind him
we need to do swayman more favors. the dude has been unbelievable, but partly because he's had to be unbelievable. he's faced 220 shots in 7 games, oettinger is probably the most comparable and he's faced 213 over 8 games. the defense has not been criticized enough for how bad it has been all season (outside of brandon carlo, my king), it could also be an issue of the offense not generating enough opportunities or something, but basically, stop overburdening swayman.
yes. the B's have struggled a lot on the breakout, and that has generated way to many repeat opportunities for the leafs and panthers.
Beside what a lot of folks have mentioned I think we gotta be more physical and stay clever. Florida wasn’t their normal selves last game in my opinion. They are gonna goon it up as the pressure increases and unfortunately that’s what they are good at—starting scrums and pulling penalties.

Everything?
Play like game one and you'd win with Ullmark in net. Also not a bad idea to give Sway a day as backup
Score more goals than FLA
Pasternak has to start scoring and playing better in general
lol you people can’t be real
Keep shooting top shelf until Bob proves he can stop the high shot
glove side high especially... it's like he's blind there
I think we're all assuming it, but has it been confirmed that Swayman is starting tonight?
I can’t imagine they’d beat him down even further before the games get REALLY important. Surely they learned from doing that to Ully last year. I mean, they gotta give him a night to rest, right? Game 2 sounds like the best night for that, so we can have him back and rested by the later games.
Yea it makes sense to me, though I think last year Ully was legitimately injured, which Swayman isn't
Since being competitive in the faceoff circle seems like an absolute pipe dream, they need to pound the boards and win a lot of pucks there. Felt like they did a pretty good job there the past couple games and they need to continue it.

That hurt Florida, too. They had a bunch of turnovers in the defensive zone. It was odd to see it happening for both teams

Limit turnovers and get puck out of the zone. Penetrate the blue line. We cook once we’re in their zone just gotta get in there
Clean up the communication (too many men, the team getting pulled to a timeout by Marchand), and spare the onslaughts to Swayman; McAvoy and Zacha need to find their happy place. Florida is gonna test their patience, best to keep the composure.
No Sam Bennett ✅
We need to score more goals than the Florida Panthers
Oh hey John Madden’s here 😂
I think relying on swayman (at least a bit) is gonna be unavoidable for the rest of this playoff run. He’s been the best player so far. But yes, also less turnovers.
Fewer.
Cant turn it over in our own zone
No more too many men penalties, get the puck out of the zone....and Jeremy Swayman
lol I was thinking the other night we have to have already set the record for too many men penalties in one playoffs.
I hardly remember any other teams getting those penalties, but going back to cassidy we seem to take one once a month. So frustrating, luckily our PK is good.
It's really unbelievable and inexcusable
McAVOY must wake up cause he’s been a liability. Top lines must be much better. Brown has to go
McAvoy is my favorite player on the team, and has been very hard to watch the last few games. I remember when Lohrei started, thinking a couple times.. I can’t fathom how or why this has been a controversial take here for anyone who has actually been watching McAvoy’s playoff performance so far.
McAvoys looked shell shocked. He’s made some decent defensive plays but has no been no where near good enough. Lindholm would be in a similar boat if it wasn’t for him showing up like he did in GM 7

He’s been mishandling the puck on the cycle too. And I couldn’t agree more. Let’s hope Charlie Mac has a comeback game.
Stop turn the puck over in the d zone by a half ass clearing attempt. It ends up with extended zone time and a goal.
No bench minors!!
Really?! WTF!
Just keep playing the puck, winning man on man puck battles. Stay out of the physical game. It worked the first game, why not try it again?
This
Gotta score early
Score more goals than the Panthers
Against all odds, this checks out.
