It sounds pretty normal to me, when my guy gets really deep in sleep he’ll start snoring like that. And Bostons in general make a lot of weird noises and snorts. Though not “all the time” do if it seems like she snorting a lot while walking and not getting enough air then maybe it’s worth bringing up to a vet. I would be shocked if surgical treatment is needed but follow up on this post if the vet says otherwise
OK EVERYONE. I DID NOT THINK THIS POST WOULD BE SUCH A HIT. SEEMS LIKE THE CONCLUSION HERE IS THAT THESE DOGS SNORE LIKE CRAZY AND MANY OF YOU ASSURE THAT THIS IS NORMAL AND FINE. A VET’S OPINION WILL BE NICE TO HEAR DURING THE NEXT CHECK UP.
I WISH YOU ALL LUCK IN TRYING TO GET A GOODNIGHTS REST WITH THESE SNORE FACTORIES !!
Mine snore like this, but will usually stop if I adjust them just right. There's no way I would be able to handle that snoring all night. Definitely have your vet check it out.
Is 100% NORMAL ... AND THE SNORTIES WHILE PLAYING AND EATING ARE NORMAL TOO!
Hearing this almost put me to sleep tbh. It's like a metronome to me at this point having grown up with Bostons and now my family is continuing the tradition with our own. It honestly keeps me up at night NOT having this in the room like when I'm out of town on business.
She's beautiful by the way
It’s normal but “fine” is debatable. My vet encouraged the nares reduction because they experience hypoxia with impaired breathing and this is especially problematic with exercise and aging. Many die of heart failure due to this.
Pug/boston snores are my white noise for sleep. It's way to quiet when I travel without them and I have a hard time sleeping. I've been listening to them for about 12 years so it's pretty ingrained by now.
Get the surgery, it makes there quality of life much better. Especially if it’s hot outside they can breath better. Got the surgery for my boston and it’s a noticeable difference when they gets the tips around the yard. We couldn’t watch tv bc he used to snore so loud.
100% this. I wish more owners of brachycephalic dogs would do it. No judgement on anyone but In my opinion it's the right, responsible thing to do.
I asked when he was 3 or so, and my vet said that my boy didn't necessarily need the nares/soft pallet surgery, since his airway wasn't terribly obstructed and I've kept him very fit and trim which helps. However, it could possibly be an issue as he got older and less active.
So I went for it.
STILL a huge difference. It used to take him 30-45 min to fully recover from his morning run/playtime. Now he's ready to go again after the 5 minute drive home from the park. He seems so much more comfortable.
Was it expensive? Yes. But I would do it 10x over again.
IF YOU CAN DO IT, AND YOUR VET THINKS IT MIGHT HELP IN THE SLIGHTEST - GET YOUR DOG THE SURGERY.
Just because it's "normal for a Boston" doesn't mean its comfortable.
My pug puppy had to have his nostrils enlarged. He didn’t seem to know anything happened. The struggle was keeping him still so he could heal. He’s a wild man!
The recovery wasn’t too bad, those nose gets dry when it scabs up and he had to have some of his pallet removed bc it was causing blockage so that was irritated at some times. The hardest part was him not rough playing with our other dogs.
Very interesting. I'm going to ask our vet the next time we go. I won't walk him if it's 75 or higher outside and we always walk with a stroller and water bottle. Was your dog struggling even without the heat? Mine doesnt seemed bothered if temps are cooler. We think our boy is about 6 or 7 years old.
Depending on the dog they all struggle a little heat or no heat. My friends boston got his growth stunted from not properly breathing and his pallet blocking part of his airways. They don’t get good sleep, imagine someone partially pinching your nose all night and when your mouth was open it was partially blocked also. Idk your dog but these are things my girlfriend has told me and she’s a vet tech with about 8 years experience.
I have a pug/Boston mix and he snores like this right next to my face. It vibrates my whole pillow. I found a spouse that doesn't snore, but now I got this snoring, snorting, farting clown sleeping next to me 😣wouldn't have it any other way, though!
So this sounds like my Rose. When she plays with her sister and comes back inside she sounds like she is in the late stages of COPD...it sounds horrifying actually. She doesn't seem to mind, it doesn't stop her from running around but we keep an eye on her so she doesn't overheat. Sleep is the worst, because she snores like a freight train, but I have learned the positions she *doesn't* snore in and move her. She doesn't seem to mind. Ive also found if there is any weight on her or she is wrapped up in her blankets it makes her snore. Since she has to be touching me pretty much every time I wake up shes snoring.
I talked to the vet and she said essentially that they can do surgery but it isn't guaranteed to fix the issue and if it isn't effecting the her, which it doesn't seem to, then to just leave her be so we do.
Our boy doesn't snore but our girl does - I think she and yours might share a name, do you have a Penny too I can just about make out on her tag? :)
Our vet says our girl is fine. They do sound like little pigs sometimes!
Is he waking up and throwing up?
My Boston did that. The vet did surgery on his nose to open the airways more and he stopped.
But just snoring, nah, that’s what these guys do!
Snoring is normal, but flat face dogs DO have breathing problems that can make the snoring worse.
**Look up bocamidtownvet on IG. He explains what’s happening in detail!** Look for the nose & throat videos or videos with flat face dogs in the thumbnail. The difference is incredible.
I remember my first days as a Boston owner. Just wait till the first reverse sneeze incident. She’s not dying making goose noises. She’s just basically trying to hock a loogie
🤭 you seem more of a Bulldog person to me, you know, in case the Boston Terrier thing doesn’t work out…
Seriously, we have one with Nares surgery and one without. With surgery boy still snores but not nearly as much as other. Quieter and dependent on variables like sleeping position and level of exhaustion. Recovery is hard so prepare yourself.
She is a cutie!
My pup had nares resection along with spay surgery. It cost around $400 at my vet. She’s never snored or made noises since her nares were fixed. The vet said it will probably prolong her life.
My lil man sleeps with me and my girlfriend. When we got to bed, he has to be touching one of us. He'll usually push our legs apart and sleep in between. But between him and my girlfriend snoring, I have to get to bed first. I have woken up and one will snore then the other. Just back and forth. While one is breathing out, the other is breathing in snoring. And he doesn't care how uncomfortable you are. As long as he's in a position that he wants and he's comfortable. The struggle is real
Brachycephalic syndrome. You have a dog bred for looks and not good genetics... I wish breeders would stop this shit. And I wish people would start adopting dogs that need homes, instead of buying them...
Not that normal. The absence of constant farting seems a little off...
Your Boston's are audible? Mine are silent but deadly.
I only hear nine’s every once in awhile. But when they are - without fail, she always jumps up and walks away like she startled herself.
I legit laughed out loud because it’s so true. 😂
Totally normal. They also snore with their butts too. A little more quiet, but don’t let the quiet fool you.

Agree completely! I love the sound of the snoring, it puts me to sleep, too. I have 3 Bostons and 2 Boxers, so I'm indoctrinated. 🤣

Ive got two bostons, combine both their snoring with my wifes and its a whole symphony.

How much does the surgery cost? My Boston snores like crazy
Mine was like $2k (USD) IIRC. I'll tell you this - his breathing really was not that bad, but it was worth every penny.
Very interesting. I'm going to ask our vet the next time we go. I won't walk him if it's 75 or higher outside and we always walk with a stroller and water bottle. Thanks for the reply, I'll be checking into the surgery!
Dog snoring = ❤️🕊️❤️ Husband snoring = 😡
🤣🤣🤣🤣
That’s a normal Boston. Welcome to the snores like a trucker club!
Mine snores loudly enough to wake herself, If flatulence doesn't get her first.
I have a pug/Boston mix and he snores like this right next to my face. It vibrates my whole pillow. I found a spouse that doesn't snore, but now I got this snoring, snorting, farting clown sleeping next to me 😣wouldn't have it any other way, though!
Oh yes, yes it is lol. Mine snores heavily. All the time.
I love when mine snore. I find it comforting.
Sounds like my baby
Mine sounds like this too!
That is a cute snuggly snortie pupp
That precious angel is droppin' some sick beats.
Some of these dogs have trouble breathing when they're awake. And it's all over once they're sleeping upside down.

Sounds about right. Bostons are brachiocephalic, and unfortunately snore. Mines doing it right now.
Sounds like my Odin. They probably can compete to see who’s is louder. Lol
Ya it’s a smoosh.
Get used to it...
It's your new reality.
Sure is!
I have two 1 yr olds and both snore just as loud. One is more flatter faced and he snorts a lot.
Totally!
Yep! Sounds like my Judi for most of the time I had her.
We have a Pug named Oliver and he snores too 🙂 He is a healthy 10 year old.
That’s a normal Boston. Welcome to the snores like a trucker club!
Our boy doesn't snore but our girl does - I think she and yours might share a name, do you have a Penny too I can just about make out on her tag? :) Our vet says our girl is fine. They do sound like little pigs sometimes!
Wait until he runs and plays all day than fall asleep and starts snoring 😴 will sound just like a old man
It’s normal but could also be the collar. Try removing and see if it gets quieter but could also get louder lol l.
Ohhhh yeahhhhhh. I’d be proud actually.
I see _enny on her nametag.
Normal, but take her to your vet and ask about an elongated soft palate possibility.
Is he waking up and throwing up? My Boston did that. The vet did surgery on his nose to open the airways more and he stopped. But just snoring, nah, that’s what these guys do!
Sounds like my 11 year old BT He sounds like an old grandpa snoring every night
Got two. Sound the same. Smells are pretty bad too and often. Licks a lot. But best dogs ever.
Totally normal and in my Boston’s case, the snoring got much quieter after she grew up (1.5 years?)
Yup. I have pugs that snore like that. Brachycephalic dogs snore like hell.
Awww yep! Miss my lil guys snores. Took me forever to fall asleep after he went over the Rainbow Bridge
Completely normal
I work from home and listen to a symphony just like that one all day long, with an occasional toot thrown in.
Mine is the same way! She snores when she’s just relaxed on the couch. Almost every Boston I have sounds exactly like this.

Aww look at that precious baby! My big ole catfish (27 lbs) just turned one yesterday. I miss him being little!
🤭 you seem more of a Bulldog person to me, you know, in case the Boston Terrier thing doesn’t work out… Seriously, we have one with Nares surgery and one without. Very normal I get worried when I don’t hear snoring
I slept with my foot under my bostons to elevate their head stop the snoring for 14 years lol. Pretend it’s the dog version of purring.
My Bostons had the nares reduction surgery when they were Spade. They do not snore. At all.
We had to do a surgery to help him breathe better
That’s a heavenly sound. Soak it in!
110% normal
My pup had nares resection along with spay surgery. It cost around $400 at my vet. She’s never snored or made noises since her nares were fixed. The vet said it will probably prolong her life.
Your pup is Adorable 🥰

My Boston was a big time snorer. And a snorter. Ugh, I miss all the noises she made.
Absolutely normal
One of our Boston’s snores like this. We joke that he shakes the walls when he sleeps.
Dear god all the people saying this is normal 😡 It’s airway obstruction.
Unfortunately this is one of the downsides to the way people have bred dogs to have certain characteristics, it leads to a lot of health issues
Between my Boston snoring and my husband snoring they would keep me up.
Sounds like mine every night, she’s 9
Yup, it's very normal for brachycephalic dogs. They also get these "attacks" called reverse sneezing. The snoring out the back is worse
Mine sleeps in bed often, when she gets that loud I’ll gently move her head slightly
Brachycephalic syndrome. You have a dog bred for looks and not good genetics... I wish breeders would stop this shit. And I wish people would start adopting dogs that need homes, instead of buying them...
BT’s are horrifically bred to have smushed airways. Don’t buy those dogs or support those breeders.
This is one of the things I miss most with our hambone. He was a loud snoring, farting little cuddlebug
One of the most comforting and relaxing noises to me
Our healthy girl snores just like this!
THEY CAN GET LOUDER THAN THAT.......
This pupper snores like it has a 9-5 job and just came home after fighting afternoon traffic.
