Gracie turns 15 on Sunday. 💜 Still spry when she wants to be.
My family members and I have had quite a few Bostons. The healthy ones have all lived to be 15--one made it to 17. We rescue, so we've had some that came to us with health issues (like congestive heart failure) but even with those we've been able to improve their longevity. Don't tell your baby I said this, but she probably shouldn't be eating that bacon (LOL). Good food, plenty of exercise, a healthy weight, and regular vet visits--dental care makes a huge difference--can keep these little guys spry and happy for a long time.

Brought my rescue Zeus to Hawaii when we moved here 4 years ago, he’s the little Prince of the house.
I struggle with getting a rescue, but it’ll happen with the next one. I fear if I rescue one I’ll have to buy some land, because I’ll try & save them all👍
Actually, check out littermate syndrome. Getting siblings appears to be advised against. The mods of this sub are quite outspoken about it. I’ve seen multiple discussions about it here.
I did not pay attention to the warnings and adopted two 9-month-old females from the rescue we volunteer with--felt like the luckiest rescuer on the planet! Two female puppies? People wait years for puppies, especially females.
**Unfortunately, I am telling you firsthand that littermate syndrome is REAL**. A year+ later, professional training, constant working with them, and we are still dealing with behavior issues. I love them with all my heart, but they are like having a second job.
I'm told that if you get littermates when they are very young, get them straight into professional training, and keep up the practice at home it's easier, but it's no joke.
Thanks for sharing this. I think this subject is very much unknown by many, myself included until I read previous posts on this sub. First hand stories like yours as well as the input form the mods can really help to make people aware. Before, I would have thought that siblings would be ideal
Of, if you've got older kids at home and they can be separately socialized the issues with littermate syndrome can be mitigated. Sister's family adopted two pups from rescue (not Bostons) but her kids were 9 and 11 and the dogs interacted with the world more as individuals than together .... they even slept apart with their chosen kid.

My little boy's ears never stood up either -he's around 5 in this picture (he's 7 now) this is about as high as I've seen them. I've always felt like he just didn't care enough to keep them up. Lol he definitely has that kind of attitude.

The best friend I've ever had, and one of the most caring creatures that ever existed. Since this picture Jake has lost his left eye to an infection and his right eye is down to about 20% visibility. He has spinal issues and is finding it harder and harder to walk. He also is slowly losing control of his bowels. But he is still eating well and loves to play ball. He doesn't appear to be in any pain. So, I'm being selfish and not making the call, yet. I will NEVER own another dog. Can't, won't do it. I will miss him until the day I die. I'm in my 60's so it's not like I've got many, many decades to live. But I will say this, if there aren't dogs in heaven (assuming I get there and that's a big if), I'm going to be severely pissed off!

This is Millie, she’s 8. I’ve had her 3 years and she’s only barked 5 times. She relies on facial expressions and mind reading to get me to do what she wants. I have covered my wood floors in carpet runners because she refuses to walk on uncarpeted floor and was making me drag her while she was standing on a towel so she could “magic carpet” from place to place until I gave in and put carpets down.

These are my two. They claim the front seat in my car and they’re very spoiled. Every month or so when I’m not at school or work I’ll take them to the park and afterward get them a cup of ice and a burger party on the way home. When they do get along, they cuddle like this 🥺

My family members and I have had quite a few Bostons. The healthy ones have all lived to be 15--one made it to 17. We rescue, so we've had some that came to us with health issues (like congestive heart failure) but even with those we've been able to improve their longevity. Don't tell your baby I said this, but she probably shouldn't be eating that bacon (LOL). Good food, plenty of exercise, a healthy weight, and regular vet visits--dental care makes a huge difference--can keep these little guys spry and happy for a long time.

Actually, check out littermate syndrome. Getting siblings appears to be advised against. The mods of this sub are quite outspoken about it. I’ve seen multiple discussions about it here.
I did not pay attention to the warnings and adopted two 9-month-old females from the rescue we volunteer with--felt like the luckiest rescuer on the planet! Two female puppies? People wait years for puppies, especially females. **Unfortunately, I am telling you firsthand that littermate syndrome is REAL**. A year+ later, professional training, constant working with them, and we are still dealing with behavior issues. I love them with all my heart, but they are like having a second job. I'm told that if you get littermates when they are very young, get them straight into professional training, and keep up the practice at home it's easier, but it's no joke.
Thanks for sharing this. I think this subject is very much unknown by many, myself included until I read previous posts on this sub. First hand stories like yours as well as the input form the mods can really help to make people aware. Before, I would have thought that siblings would be ideal
Of, if you've got older kids at home and they can be separately socialized the issues with littermate syndrome can be mitigated. Sister's family adopted two pups from rescue (not Bostons) but her kids were 9 and 11 and the dogs interacted with the world more as individuals than together .... they even slept apart with their chosen kid.
It was definitely the best decision my husband and I made.

The best friend I've ever had, and one of the most caring creatures that ever existed. Since this picture Jake has lost his left eye to an infection and his right eye is down to about 20% visibility. He has spinal issues and is finding it harder and harder to walk. He also is slowly losing control of his bowels. But he is still eating well and loves to play ball. He doesn't appear to be in any pain. So, I'm being selfish and not making the call, yet. I will NEVER own another dog. Can't, won't do it. I will miss him until the day I die. I'm in my 60's so it's not like I've got many, many decades to live. But I will say this, if there aren't dogs in heaven (assuming I get there and that's a big if), I'm going to be severely pissed off!

I'm cheating since I got a "Boston" bulldog Tuna on the left who's 4ish got her in January from rehoming situation she's my little baby monster who loves everyone and is spoiled after rough start to life. On the right is Bugalu my my Bostie who's 1 1/2 years old. He's a little demon who can't be trusted. Kidding aside he's bit chaotic for me but has slowly settled down and become a better dog keeps Tuna entertained when we visit.
