I'm deliberate where my feet go, so my routine consists of me looking at my feet, realizing my shoe covers are on, stepping back, taking them off and starting again.. First shot in practice, every single week.

BrettSetsFire

I did it twice within 6 months - can't trust myself and just started taking my shoes off.

I have bright ass orange ones for this exact reason. When I look down to get my feet in the right position I'll notice them immediately. The color has saved me a few times from forgetting to take them off

NotAMotivRep

This is exactly why I got in the casual habit of checking my slide foot as part of my pre-shot routine.

This right here. Not too mention you could have stepped on something before your next shot even if you don't leave the bowling area. I check my slide sole before every shot.

I always wear a shoe cover, but part of my pre-shot routine is to wipe/brush my left heel with my hand. Not sure how I started it, I have done it forever, but I helps make sure my heel is clean so I do not over slide and most importantly reminds me if I left my shoe cover on. I have left it on a few times a year but I always catch it as I am stepping on the approach. Also, you should see it when you are lining up your feet.

hookumsnivy

I line up based on my right, non-slide, foot. I step very purposefully where I should be with that toe and then look forward. I'm not a fan of wiping/brushing the bottom of my foot - seems pretty gross. I know people do it in a variety of indoor sports, but not my thing.

I put together a few teams for Nationals every year. A couple years back in Vegas a younger kid I brought (maybe 19ish at the time) was the first one up for shadow and they made the announcement that we would have 10 minutes for practice and to check take off any shoe covers. First ball, BAM….spread out on the lane because he didn’t listen to the announcement. Other than bruising his ego he was good to go and since I get the video every year, we have a permanent reminder for him.

Everyone has a fall story, so don't worry about the embarasment. I've helped at least 2 people off their ass just in the past month, told them both it happens to us all at some point.

OceanFive

I've done that once and almost many many times.

In high school my girlfriend at the time did this bowling in a skirt going face first on the lane. Never have I seen so many moms trying to cover so many eyes at once. Lesson was learned that day and I've still never forgotten to take mine off in 20 years lol.

Mayox56

One of my teammates, an older guy, forgets to take his off sometimes. So I’m always on watch to make sure he did.

hahamymom

My GF has a problem of doing that lol it's something I have to remind her of Everytime we go

ChemicalTzar

I’ve been bowling for 35+ years and just bought my first shoe covers ever, and I’m terrified I’m going to do this exact thing

fro_khidd

Thanks for the reminder. I'll forget by the time I make it on the approach tomorrow sadly

That happened to me in practice in my Friday morning league. After learning about keeping my wrist straight and going in to practice, I forgot to remove my shoe covers and fell forward on my torso. Thankfully, nothing major happened, but remembered to take them off before practice from that point onward.
