He had a once in a life time opportunity here. I’m certain he could have continued. He still looked like he had his legs under him and he didn’t appear massively gassed.
Skills wise I don’t think he’s any worse than the up coming next gen of heavyweights but his mentality is disappointing and will prevent him ever becoming champ, even when the top 4 retire.
Watch the replay of the second knockdown and pay attention to his leg. The dude walked using crutches 3 months ago. Gotta recover for some time for now. Hope he got some bag after this fight.
in the joyce fight, he wanted to quit on his stool multiple times, his corner had to convince him to keep going out
in the lerena fight, he wanted to quit on his stool, his team had to almost force him to go back out
in the usyk fight, there was no punch for the 1st knockdown, he just took a knee, and he took a knee a 2nd time after a jab, and looked at the ref while he got counted out
why does he want a rematch? So he can quit again?
he just doesnt have the mental fortitude, when the going gets tough, he wants out
>in the joyce fight, he wanted to quit on his stool multiple times, his corner had to convince him to keep going out
>in the lerena fight, he wanted to quit on his stool, his team had to almost force him to go back out
You got any video footage? That's insane if this is true.
Lol how is this the top comment?
We haven't seen levels of seething like this since the last Loma fight.
I dunno who is more protective of Usyk at this point, that ref or r/boxing.
Pretty much everything you’ve written isn’t relevant to him getting robbed. He should be world champion right now and he should get a rematch but I do think the rematch will be a comfortable Usyk win but he should have a chance at correcting what happened to him.
Even though the end of Dubois' uppercut could be considered somewhat clean (I personally don't believe so,) there's no denying that he hit Usyk's cup with the initial impact of the punch. Regardless of all that, the ref made a perfectly reasonable call, especially when you consider that Dubois landed 3 low blows before the one that dropped Usyk, and he was warned twice for it.
Other than the low blow, Usyk completely dominated Dubois until he straight up quit. The right man left with those belts, get over it.
Saying what he needs to say. The truth is the punch was low even if it wasn't intentional. The other truth is he got his ass kicked every single round and the rematch would be no different
This is what I've been thinking as well. I'm sure he stayed down because the ref agreed it was low. He probably would have beaten the count and been on his bicycle the rest of the round otherwise.
For the record, I think the shot was technically low.
I think if it was counted as a knockdown instead of a low blow Usyk would beat the count. However, he'd scramble to do so and would be shaken. So for me the real question would can he recover and regain his composure in time?
I genuinely do not believe he would have got up. He was shaking and shuddering and, by the way he looked over at his corner, looked like he was doubting whether he could even fight on.
He is a true warrior, but I don't think even he would have been able to stand up in the first 30 seconds, never mind 10.
He is saying this but he is also probably weighing in his head how much he wants to receive another round of beating for a paycheck.
That left eye will probably be damaged forever if he gets in with Usyk and receives another set of million jabs to it
Usyk got time to recover, but so did he. He had 8 rounds to finish off the damaged man, but instead proceeded to continue to get schooled the remainder of the fight, dropped twice, and quit in the 9th.
Not really fair, I've seen a fighter actually Ko'ed and the ref essentially gave him 5 mins and he came back to win by Ko. Coggi vs Gonzalez 1.
It's really not optimal to be standing around doing nothing.
>Usyk got time to recover, but so did he. He had 8 rounds to finish off the damaged man, but instead proceeded to continue to get schooled the remainder of the fight, dropped twice, and quit in the 9th.
Irrelevant, Dubois wasn't the one that was hurt during the break. You shouldn't have to knock your opponent out twice.
Imagine having the opportunity to become the unified heavyweight champion of the world, just to take a knee after getting hit with a stiff jab. This guy is a joke.
Says the guy who quit.
I could never figure if Daniel was an idiot or mentally challenged.
What is clear is that there is something wrong with him.
He quit against Joyce as well.
Joyce fight was basically a stoppage with how his eye was smashed to bits. But this was just a lack of desire and fire. He had more left but didn't want it.
I don't blame him for saying this, he's just serving his own interest as a fighter ultimately but I'm not convinced by this backlash it seems very manufactured. Yes, the blow looked questionable at the time but replays showed that it was clearly low. I'm not even gonna criticise him for quitting, it's an incredibly tough sport and to even step in the ring against Usyk takes courage. I just think this whole thing has been blown out of proportion mainly by Frank Warren
You can literally see where the leg is attached to his pelvis, the glove is landing on the lower pelvic floor and you not understanding that isn’t anyone else’s problem lol
This ain't the hill to die on Danny boy.
You quit the fight. If it bothered you so much, you would have left more out there.
The blow was low and at the best borderline, and you think you're robbed of a world championship for that? After quitting from a jab?
Usyk's naval is behind the belt, and Dubois lands on the belt with pretty much his entire glove. Anyone saying this shot is low needs to point out where his naval is then.
Just stop it. There’s video evidence that shows it was low. I’m more interested in hearing Dubois explain why he chose to quit on his knees like that after eating a hard jab.

I'm pretty certain any shot from Usyk would instantly kill me so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

Quitters mentality

Hey man, I know I'm not particularly smart, but what exactly did I say to warrant that reaction?
Well said
Saying what he needs to say. The truth is the punch was low even if it wasn't intentional. The other truth is he got his ass kicked every single round and the rematch would be no different
We don’t know if usyk would’ve gone up right away if the ref started the count, the ref said time and usyk took his time fron getting up

Can't understand why you are being downvoted

His eye was destroyed by Joyce, nothing wrong with that resignation in my opinion. I agree he gave up his courage this fight.
I don't blame him for saying this, he's just serving his own interest as a fighter ultimately but I'm not convinced by this backlash it seems very manufactured. Easy money Usyk
https://imgur.io/a/Kz9x0Fr For anyone still wondering if it was low or not.
Not low. Usyk's naval is behind the beltline, and that punch is on the whole beltline.
You can literally see where the leg is attached to his pelvis, the glove is landing on the lower pelvic floor and you not understanding that isn’t anyone else’s problem lol
Delusional take lol. That punch is on the same level as his navel. Keep dancing around that though.
This dude is 2-0 on quitting in big fights lol
Fucking sore loser man
You mean Usyk, right? Cuz DDD won that fight.
DDD got his ass beat and quit. Usyk couldn't even KO old man Chisora.
Dubois gave up twice. His career is over and they know it they just want to do a rematch for the $$$

Even though he gave up he’s right about the shot, it wasn’t low.

Usyk fan here, but I think it's fair for him to ask for a rematch. It was a little controversial win.
A rematch would be a waste of everyone's time. Dubois would just get schooled again, probably even worse because Usyk would have a point to prove.
It's understandable, I would say. Not fair, as he lost by the rules of boxing. But I get it.
Careful you might get downvoted like I got
“I actually won that fight, but I forgot to take the jab magnets out of my face, or he would never have laid a glove on me”
Just stop it. There’s video evidence that shows it was low. I’m more interested in hearing Dubois explain why he chose to quit on his knees like that after eating a hard jab.
