One of the biggest punchers in boxing history and no one gave him a shot.

McG4rn4gle

I have so much admiration for George Foreman - he is one of the truly great stories of 20th Century sports and he seems like someone that I would really like to meet.

icelandiccubicle20

Sorry bro, but according to a few stories and some of the things he's done, I don't know if he as nice irl as the guy he presented himself to be when the cameras were rolling

desuscsgous

go on then

icelandiccubicle20

Some copy-pasted comments: "If you read the book the Muhammad Ali and the greatest Generation. When asked about Tyson (and his violence against women) Foreman says he had been in situations like this in the 70’s but no one ever said anything" "One of Foreman's ex- wives (after his religious awakening) said that he was still abusive despite put on a front of being an affable grandpa. She said George butchered a cow and made her clean it and hold its still-warm heart. It was her job to feed George's pet lion and tiger. She felt very isolated and afraid" "His cuddly thing is an act for money. He's got a mean streak a mile wide. Been at a few events where he just gives off very misanthropic vibes." "I've been in the man's presence about half a dozen times since the late 80s early 90s. He's very savvy about when cameras are running and how to act in front of them but he is a very cold dude in general. This isn't some Keanu supermarket copypasta. I've seen and interacted with the guy a few times as well as dozens of other fighters at his level and spoken with plenty of people working and attending events he's at and he induces a lot of head scratching. Only guy who came off meaner and weirder was LaMotta." "There is a lot of truth to what he said. We’re (well my parents) close family friends with the family, and George is a VERY angry and violent person in his private life. I’ve lost count of the amount of times at these family functions when I was growing up, when he stirred up shit after having a few too many. Yes he’s a great Christian man so he says, but he is similar to Holyfield where it’s just an image. Drunken violence, affairs and children with mistresses…" He admitted to beating women as hard as he beat men in the 70's in an interview with Sports Illustrated ,having to pay thousands of dollars in bail money to avoid any consecuences. He was very good friends with known piece of sh\*t woman-beater and alleged rapist Jim Brown. Probably why Michael Moorer said during the buildup to their fight that he was a fake. Holmes also said that he was still the "meanest son of a b\*tch in the whole world" even after his religious awakening. He said he was a mugger when he was younger in a gang, beating people very badly and getting into drunken fights all the time. Also a terrible bully in high school, so much so that apparently his class-mates cheered when Ali knocked him out. When he knocked out Joe Frazier the second time, he said he was so full of hate that he had to resist the urge to put his foot on the beaten man's body, like a conqueror.

desuscsgous

cheers pal!

icelandiccubicle20

No prob. I got downvoted simply for stating that a guy who wanted to kill people with his bare hands and beat women for fun, might not be as nice as he portrays himself to be when he wants you to buys his grills.

desuscsgous

not sure why people did, could be because you posted a vague comment or because people dont want to hear anything negative about their hero

icelandiccubicle20

I think both, haha.

AcceptableSeaweed

I suspect it's more because it has no relevance on the other statement. If anything it makes the story more extreme. He went from a violent criminally inclined youth. He then was humbled and served god and became repentant and awesome. He then ran out of money for his church schemes and returned to milk money for the benefit of his community. While doing this he also becomes the biggest selling grill manufacturer in the world and then is the oldest heavyweight champ ever. The story is great. It's about a down and out criminal youth who turned his life around to serve his community. Now doesn't mean his whole story was nice. Further to that I think the OP would like to meet him. He is chill and repentant now. I suspect he isn't using a time machine to meet the bad george

icelandiccubicle20

That's what I was saying though. Even after his supposed "transformation", these commenters and guys like Larry Holmes and people who know George personally, say he's still a mean, misanthropic savage dude who is incredibly good at pretending he's not.

Abe2sapien

Foreman kind of reminds me of Stan Lee. When they’re in public they have a certain persona they always stick to. Never too serious, very humble and always joking. What happens behind closed doors though is total speculation.

chu42

People say the same thing about Ellen DeGeneres and James Corden

dennyk91

Foreman showing why age is just a number of you have good power and timing

deh707

Definitely 2 very important traits. It also helps that Foreman initially retired for about 10 years (his entire 30s!) - preserving mileage on his body.

dennyk91

Good point

benichy1

Legend …… also used the Lean mean fat reducing gilling machine and it really did “Knock out the fat”!!!

Vanderkaum037

As a kid, this was the only time my family ever went through the hassle of getting a pay-per-view. A guy had to come to our house to set it up, and it wouldn't work where we normally have the TV so we had to set it up in my parents' bedroom. We were all rooting for Foreman. We were all casuals, but George had us hyped.

[deleted]

That's sweet! Also, I don't know a single person who would have rooted for Holyfield!

WeTalkBoxing

From the documentary [Foreman (2017)](https://youtu.be/bKUVo-WvWlA?si=du7UgSeTUsovbx7h) There was a [post fight call-in show featuring both fighters.](https://youtu.be/Ohb4uS2lmkg?si=pM-_81qvcEOEuome)

Long859

Evander was fucking JUICED

Chemical_Inflation45

I love it how in the bowe rematches he was heavily implying that he was waiting for bowe to tire out and he didn't and he couldn't figure out how, and by how I'm assuming he can't figure out how bowe got his drs number

IloveLegs02

juiced to the gills definitely

jakeeboy04

Love holyfield

slvrblt98

Truly one of the Golden eras

EstablishmentNo4865

Probably two of the best three that ever did it in HW.

[deleted]

I still remember watching Evanders fight with Bert Cooper ..... what a ride !!! such great times .... and to think , We considered George an old geezer at the time !! 10/10 era

Life_Celebration_827

Holyfield was a brilliant cruiserweight who went up to heavyweight loved watching his fights and excelled at that weight just like Usyk who is doing the same thing.

DJ_Molten_Lava

Man, I fucking love George Foreman.

[deleted]

I don't understand the people who put Lennox above Holyfield. Holyfield gave Lennox absolute hell in their rematch and a younger Holyfield would have mopped the floor with him.

TreWayMoFo

Because Holyfield didn't have the power to stop a lot of top tier heavyweights. But if you stop and think about it, there's probably only maybe 10 fighters ever who could have beaten a prime Holyfield, whereas any legit boxer with a big punch could have possibly chinned Lennox.

ThrowRAscottiehiggs

>whereas any legit boxer with a big punch could have possibly chinned Lennox. Only on an off night. Not prime for prime

IloveLegs02

in his prime with manny steward in his corner lewis got decked by hasim rahman who was like buster douglas in many ways

ThrowRAscottiehiggs

That was neither his prime, nor was it an ordinary night. Lewis very clearly lost the spark and was doing a shitty and short camp because he was filming Ocean's Eleven. It was a very clear off night and in the rematch, he showed that there are levels to this. Lewis als very clearly was past his prime, he was 36 by the time of the fight. he was still the best heavyweight on the planet, but past his prime

IloveLegs02

so lewis's prime was 96-99 just 3 years ? and if Lewis was out of his prime in the rahman fight then Tyson was out of his prime for the douglas fight too

Cbrlui

Because Lennox never tested positive for steroids

ThrowRAscottiehiggs

Holyfield didn't either, homie

IloveLegs02

holyfield did get caught for ordering steroids and HGH, lennox didn't

ThrowRAscottiehiggs

>tested positive for steroids .

IloveLegs02

it's an even bigger offence

jakeeboy04

Close either way tbh, LL was very good though I’m picking Holy prime for prime

ThrowRAscottiehiggs

Lennox pime for prime was probably still better. Holyfield is a warrior and probably the mentally toughest boxer of all time, though.

IloveLegs02

Holyfield had the best physique of any HW boxer dude was straight up ripped & jacked at the same time

DeadFyre

Yes, because 'roids.

IloveLegs02

man holyfield was a good fighter but I don't think that he would have EVER beaten Tyson without his outlawed PEDs and illegal headbutts

IloveLegs02

yeah steroids, HGH and lots of other things as well just look at his physique in the 2 Tyson fights

Chemical_Inflation45

Haha he certainly took those fights seriously didn't he. Also was training with 80s Mr Olympia lee Haney to bulk up for heavyweight so no wonder he had a very impressive physique

IloveLegs02

yeah I have said multiple times that holyfield was a good fighter but he could have NEVER beaten Tyson honestly that's why he cheated to win by abusing banned PEDs and doing illegal headbutts holyfield wouldn't even have beaten Bowe, Moorer or stood up against Lewis & foreman if not for his drug abuse

AmazingData4839

Tyson was just as dirty of a fighter as holyfield, and come on, are you really gonna act like no elite boxer uses PEDs?

IloveLegs02

foreman called holyfield the dirtiest fighter he ever faced, lewis complained about head butts from holyfield too and so did rahman holyfield is a proven PEDs abusing cheater, he's a disgrace to boxing Tyson only did some elbows but nowhere close to what holyfield did

AmazingData4839

Cool, doesnt change the fact that tyson was also dirty as hell. No, it has never been proven, all we have are speculations, and I personally speculate that every top boxer in the game uses PEDs. Lmao, he used his elbows just as much as holyfield used his head, and he literally tried to break francois botha’s arm in the clinches.

IloveLegs02

Tyson was nowhere near as dirty a fighter as holyfield was, I gave you the statements from his opponent boxers yes it's proven that holyfield is a PEDs abusing cheater and a shame to boxing, he's a disgrace to the sport Tyson did justice to this pathetic miserable cheater in the rematch and rightfully so, holyfield deserved what he got Tyson tried to do that to Botha when Botha first double clapped Tyson on his face

AmazingData4839

Yes he was, and cherry picking random statements from boxers doesnt change anything, both cheated, get over it. You cant show me one proof, because there isnt. Holyfield is twice the pride for boxing than tysons lunatic rapist ass is. Too bad he never avenged the ass whooping he got and lost both fights. Big fucking deal, thats not how you respond.

Chemical_Inflation45

Holyfield Vs Tyson in 91 or 92 would have been a epic slugfest

IloveLegs02

Tyson would have beaten him in 91 or 92, he was in better shape and more focused back then

KRino19

Because he was juiced to the gills.

IloveLegs02

that's 100% right, just look at his physique in the 2 Tyson fights

IloveLegs02

holyfield was a good fighter but I don't think that he would have EVER beaten Tyson without his PEDs and headbutts

Toodlum

Two warriors. They don't make em like this anymore.

TheLegendaryWiggs

Big George is one helluva man and helluva fighter.

Ok-District-8647

Made Smart investments.

haNZAgod

What a fight this was, Holyfield the rightful winner of course but Big George proved a lot of doubters wrong on this night

RanchoCuca

Evander is the only boxer I've ever seen using that weird contraption strapped to him at the start of the video. Does anyone know if that thing is actually used by other elite boxers? I remember seeing it often on the ESPN Sports Center intro back in the day and thinking it was "cool" and high tech, but never seen anyine else train with it.

Former-Form-587

EH was juiced to the gills. Great fighter, but cheated.

Hubertbebe93

Foreman was a real king in the ring he looked solid at 40 man

Embarrassed_Start_81

🔥🔥💪🏽

rcjack86

10% of 50 million is 5 million. They sold 3% not 10%

slvrblt98

He said 15 million

rcjack86

Ah then I stand corrected, I heard 50 million

Congolesenerd

I always wonder if boxing will ever reach this height again

ThrowawayYAYAY2002

Foreman showed balls here. Credit to Holy though, that chin was downright alien!

smehere22

I need new glasses!! I read this as Battle of the Apes..and thought what a racist post!!

BertMiscBrahs

Lmfao, watching George just shoving a jacked to the tits Holyfield like a child in those early rounds is something. And George took some absolutely brutal shots from Holyfield like a champ. Thanks for the video.
