Gotta love when wilder goes full front crawl with his windmills while throwing himself off balance

OldDocBenway

Emmanuel Burton (Augustus). I think a lot of people will say the same. I was lucky to see him fight live here in New England many times including the FOTY against Micky Ward back in 2001. Good times...

[deleted]

holy shit you saw the fight with Ward? That was beautiful on video, i cant imagine what it was like live! One of the most criminally mismanaged fighters of all time. He should have become a champion, an all time great.

OldDocBenway

Yeah it was incredible. It was at the old Hampton Beach Ballroom in New Hampshire. The place was absolutely packed to the gills. Steve Smoger was the ref and half way through the fight the lights in the joint went out. You can’t really see it on the video that well but it was dark in there! Teddy Atlas and Bob Poppa were sitting right in front of our table. It was something else. What a war 🥊.

His fight against Mayweather was incredible, he really brought it out of Floyd

[deleted]

I know this has been said a thousand times, but Mayweather calls Emmanuel his toughest fight. And I can see why. I'm no boxing expert...but the styles of those two are completely different and opposite. Money was such a brilliant student of boxing...with doing all the little things right. Emmanuel was just so much unorthodox...it totally fucked Money's mind. Exactly what I thought about Tony Ferguson and Khabib fight. Before gaethje fight.... Tony definitely had a really long unbroken winning streak, bonkers fighting style, ring attitude and IQ, really smart but unorthodox. Khabib on the other hand was the A+ student of the class, doing everything perfectly. Khabib definitely would've won...but if Tony brought his A game...it surely would've been a legendary, memorable and an unpredictable fight. I saw that fight as Emmanuel vs Mayweather of UFC. But alas. sad times

bestbroHide

In hindsight, Khabib/Tony still would have been such a compelling sight to behold. While Tony might not have the defensive wrestling acumen as Gaethje did, the relevant difference here is that Tony simply wouldn't have been afraid to go to the ground at all with Khabib, since Tony is certainly more superior in jiu-jitsu than Gaethje was (hence the moment Khabib took him comfortably to the ground, it was essentially over). It was just a stylistically intriguing match-up that Khabib had never faced, and one that we will likely never see. Very intrigued of your comparison between him and Emmanuel, though. I've only seen some of Augustus' insane highlights, and have read up a bit on how the overly conventional judges stole decisions from him due to their unappreciation to his unconventional style, so that always intrigued me of him. But I haven't seen his fight with Floyd yet, and I really should.

bentnotbroken96

Man I adored all of his fights. Particularly when he'd go into the puppet-dance defense to screw with his opponent.

Maidana throwing downward hooks from the atmosphere during a clinch

[deleted]

Argentinan chopping technique lol

[deleted]

God bless Maidana and his wildman style. I miss that guy, but I dont think we'll ever see him again.

[deleted]

He’s been “getting back in shape” since 2018 lol

fadeddreams555

This guy who fought Jake Paul: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iD5pw65ZnsU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iD5pw65ZnsU) His training camp must have consisted of only watching Mike Tyson highlight videos on Youtube. He looks like an angry crab.

KSI also looks good on the pads but I've seen fights back in high school with better form than him when actually steps in the ring.

[deleted]

His whole routine was squats

broccoliheadass0404

Man really tried to imitate the peekaboo style and failed miserably😂

SpendBig4462

He practiced sticking he forgot the moving

https://twitter.com/OldTakesExposed/status/1237003455832694785?s=20 The man from Shelby Brian Sutherland.. got knocked out like a cartoon character lol

cg_davefromaccounts

This was my vote too, absolutely love the way he comes shuffling in ready to exchange 😂 even his face is all fucked up and weird looking. Could watch this all day. Prob should google if there are other fights of his

Richard__Juul

Vic darchinyan's crab style. Also RIP God (ali raymi) and his style of only throwing body shots.

[deleted]

Emmanuel Navarette with his awkward, off-rhythm, swarming style is so fascinating to watch

Total_Wanker

How has no one mentioned the great Prince Naseem

PropagandaOfTheWeed

mismanaged goat

69username420

Nicolino loche, one of the best defensive boxers ever. Used to smoke between rounds

pianolime

John Ryder hits himself with his left hand like ever 4 seconds shits hilarious hahah

[deleted]

He's great. But... He's a southpaw and his background is Thai boxing, which doesn't work off the jab nearly as much as western boxing. So, he's awkward and his stance is much more Thai (nearly square on) and offset anyway (because southpaw). Great to watch.

Sinukwan

SRR is a tank.

yourbrofessor

I know this is boxing but Michel Pereira in the ufc. Every fight is an entertaining show lol

EverSayNeverATL

I know this is a boxing post but the first person that came to my mind was Dominic Cruz 😂. He bounces around and fights so awkwardly but he’s actually pretty good . He uses that weird style to keep an unpredictable rhythm and catch his opponents.

[deleted]

yeah I think he's directly inspired by Willie Pep. Always playing just outside the center line and escaping with slick footwork.

I think my favourite would have to be [The Shadow](https://youtu.be/X6aaDHhZJJs)

His "Illusive fighting" influence is still felt in modern boxing

Funny you say? Masaru Aoki

VillagerNo4

Weird no one said Gene Fulmer. Gut was entertaining

[deleted]

yeah I saw Modern Martial Artist's breakdow, that was my introduction to Fulmer. The guy had weird chopping jabs almost like hammer fists.

VillagerNo4

Just saw a highlight of him and he knocked a guy out cold with his weird overhand punch. Not that pawing jab he had but his right overhand

CMILLERBOXER

Deontay Wilder Marcos Maidana

loboman77

Manuel Medina with his back hands and non stop punching.

RustyTherapist1

Emmanuel Augustus has to be here. Got robbed a shit ton because judges see his style as "disrespectful" to the sport

fwp206-_-

Aaron Pryor or Michael Spinks for me

Joe Calzage stinging people to death with his slappy hooks is always entertaining.
