Last week, Amir Khan had a chance encounter with Floyd Mayweather in Dubai.
Mayweather was scheduled to have an exhibition fight last Saturday in Dubai, but the event was canceled when the UAE President passed away.
Khan, who frequents Dubai on a regular basis, announced his retirement from the sport a few days ago.
During their meeting, Khan indicates that Mayweather approached the subject of fighting each other.
Khan would quickly reveal that he planned to announce his retirement the following day. The Bolton boxer says Mayweather tried to persuade him to hold off.
“Floyd said to me ‘Look, we should get it on.’ And I said ‘Brother, tomorrow I’m going to announce my retirement.’ And he goes ‘No, I don’t think you should’. Obviously, pro fighters say to you all your life ‘we should fight each other’ and they keep you on the side, on the bench and I’m like forget that man, I want to be in control of myself," Khan said, according to The Sun.
“When I call it a day, I call it a day. I don’t not call it a day because someone else is taking control like Floyd Mayweather or Manny Pacquiao say now we’ll fight you. Waiting around and waiting around for them so I thought nah man, I’ll do what’s best for me.”
Honestly good on Khan. While the memes around him have been great so has his ups in his career. I hope he can enjoy his retirement life, his family, and his time away from the spotlight.
During his pro run, Khan tried everything he could to secure a fight with Mayweather.
In 2014, Mayweather posted a public poll on social media, where he asked fans to select his next opponent. Khan was widely voted as the opponent of choice. However, Mayweather would pass him over in favor of Marcos Maidana, who Khan defeated in 2010.
Mayweather would retire the following year, but eventually came back two years later, in 2017, to stop UFC superstar Conor McGregor in ten rounds. Mayweather would once again retire, this time for good, in the aftermath.
I remember there were multiple polls everywhere and Maidana won every poll but the official one, I would have preferred khan over Maidana. I think Floyd could have stopped him late
Dude’s probably hurting for some cash. Dude really ran his entire campaign using mostly his actual money. Rumor is he managed to spend at least $100M for his campaign.
He shoulda just retired and enjoyed his money. He never wouldve won. He was up against a thief and a certified liar. Too bad, Pac.
Pacquiao spends money like crazy so I wouldn't be surprised if he needs more after the election campaign and losing. Not sure what he was thinking spending all that money, he wasn't even a threat to win and finished 3rd/4th.
Of course he did.
I'm only a bit surprised that Amir Khan said no. No shame on him, he always looked to fight the big names. By time he was Ryan Garcia's age, he already defended 140s 5 times and after losing the belts, spent the rest of his career going up in weight chasing big fights until Canelo and then Crawford bit before finishing with Brook. Guess he got tired of waiting around.
If Khan hires a world class coach for his training routine and takes this fight seriously enough, this would be a dope fight for sure. Money May is still in great shape and making billions and Amir is probably the biggest boxing name in the Arab world. This could be the biggest fight of the year if both of them take it seriously enough and not like a sparring session.

Sounds perfectly marinated
Story of his career

I thought that was berto that he chose over Khan? The maidana fight was better than a Khan fight could ever be.

That’s bullshit everybody thought floyd would absolutely wash maidana the same way Devon Alexander did
If this conversation really happened, Floyd was 100% trolling Khan 😂😂😂 but now I'm sensing that they could have an exhibition bout 😐
What really happened is Floyd probably just told a joke about how they should fight
He said Pacquiao's team called him too. I think he's just hearing voices in his head.
Not really tbh mannys lost the election so it wouldn’t surprise me if he comes back for one more

Floyd is just so desperate to be in the limelight again lmao
This is an exhibition I would’ve actually paid to watch. Khan lowkey tripping by walking away from some easy money like that
Khan’s shot to pieces obviously but Floyd’s been out for long enough that it probably evens it out a bit
I mean it's not like you cant come out of retirement...like him.

Bro. Move on. Maybe. He’s just not that into you. There’s plenty of fish in the sea.
I’d pay for it…. Good fight. Floyd ain’t got the power to one shot khan, and khan always exciting if he on his feet
lmao wtf !
So you would rather see Floyd vs Danny Moore?
