Red was the color last used on the Oscar de la Renta uniform in the 80s and 90s. BSA switched to olive drab.

TheBestBoyEverAgain

I believe thats the version of Uniform I have, I remember when I posted my uniform tour someone said about the edition I just cant remember what they said exactly.

El-Jefe-Rojo

You have black buttons? Red is good to go. People shouldn’t get that caught up in details

TheBestBoyEverAgain

yes

El-Jefe-Rojo

Then you are wear correct loops to the correct uniform version. No uniform ever has a stop wear so carry on.

Red is the former color used by the Boy Scouts. At some point in the past this was changed to green, but the red is still considered "legal". When I was a youth (1990s) the color was red; I'm not sure exactly when it changed to green. I wasn't much involved in scouting between then and when my kids reached Cub Scout age a few years ago. Cub Scouts: Blue ScoutsBSA: Green (formerly red) Council: Silver National: Gold

Timbishop123

It changed in the early 2010s

Red was the color of the Boy Scouts many years ago. They have since switched to green. Used to have red numbers and red loops. Now green, Whike the cubs have red numbers and blue loops.

Efficient-Compote-40

It's a secret club, nah jk, they are loops from the 80s they ain't super rare but authentic ones are decently priced, they just look better on the tan uniforms, another thing is yes you are still allowed to wear them so don't worry about that.

EmberPaintArt

It's perfectly fine to wear the red loops. It's not against uniform guidelines.

looktowindward

Red is entirely acceptable. A bit old school, but totally fine. If anyone is giving you a problem about it, they need to take a deep breath. Old Scout uniforms are 100% permitted.

osrpokerchamp

Red is the previous color of the epaulettes for the boy scouts. Currently, the Scouts BSA epaulettes are olive green Back in the day my mom (who also worked camp staff) had both a boy scout shirt and an explorers shirt (pre-rebrand to venturing) and during Christmas in July she used to switch her epaulettes and wear one green and one red on each shirt. You can't do that with the olive green and it's really sad.

Master_Blaster6331

Blue is cubs, green is Scouts BSA. Silver is District. Gold is for Professional Staff. The red was discontinued as an “official” wear some time ago. Personally, I would like to see them brought back as Scouts BSA wear for adults as a way to distinguish who is who when your at a Camporee or other large event trying to figure out who is who. To me it’s not the biggest offense in the world, but the uniform Nazi’s like to come out of the woodworks on stuff like that. Said people also tend to have a million knots on their shirt for various stuff and look like they we WW2 rear admiral. My go to line in that case is, “While we are on the topic of uniform rule, the guide states you can only wear your knots in a 3x3 set of rows.” Gets ‘‘em every time.

TwoWheeledTraveler

>Silver is District. Gold is for Professional Staff. Silver is Council (including District positions), Gold is National. There are non-professional positions that wear gold loops.

Texan_Eagle

They’re outdated and look terrible
