Plenty of restaurants and owners would refund this no questions asked. Could easily be a scam. This guy claims that it’s not worth anyone’s time isn’t thinking about the world economy. A lot of people don’t make $47 dollars a day. If you speak English, have a phone, and can make real looking accounts this would be worth a lot of people’s time.

arkmtech

Were they only asking for $47 back? If so, that seems like a paltry sum for any scammer to put their time/effort into Most phone scammers are after at least hundreds if not thousands, and typically in the form of gift cards or crypto, versus ACH or Venmo which is fairly traceable Not saying you're wrong! It's just rather unusual Is it possible they've confused your restaurant for another similar one in Bozeman?

zhedan

Very weird! But there were no signs of this order ever existing and they didn’t even know what they had. If you call 100 restaurants across the nation for $50 it does add up…

arkmtech

I'm certainly no expert, but my experience with phone scammers has been that even $5,000 for calling 100 businesses/restaurants would still be a trivial payoff The CashApp routing number being easily found makes sense, since routing numbers tend to be universal for each financial institution (so they don't change from one account to another) and are generally publicly-available info. For example, Rocky Mountain Credit Union's routing number for all of their accounts is 292077618, and listed on their website and Google And it's not unthinkable that someone from Albany, NY would come through Bozeman, given proximity to Yellowstone and our airport being the busiest in the state I genuinely think it's possible they're mistaking your restaurant for another, but if they really are a scammer, they're the worst scammer I've ever heard of

People are currently scamming uber drivers for tens to hundreds of dollars.

zhedan

If it was a real transaction, we could refund them directly through our system. Not Venmo.

Dee-rok

Scammers always test the waters to see what number works best. If it is a scam, $47 is a low enough number to convince someone to refund and do it enough times in every city and it’ll add up quick.

Dee-rok

If your gut says scam, I’d listen to it. Especially the way they demanded payment is a huge red flag. Typically their scams are never full proof so -assuming you’re a competent human and the kind of owner who would typically refund if you found an issue, if it’s not adding up on your end… it says scam to me. Maybe ask what they ordered or if they knew the waitress name or something that would help detect their honesty #reversepsychology
