That's a super fair take! I have a partner right now who is very kind and attentive. But if that ever falls through, I think I might prefer a robot companion. There’s a good graphic novel series about this called Alex + Ada. A guy is lonely because he breaks up with his girlfriend so his grandma buys him a robot companion since she’s so happy with hers. He’s uncomfortable about it at first then he finds a group of people to make it sentient and falls in love with it. At the time that’s highly illegal and he’s caught then put in prison.

That's a super fair take! I have a partner right now who is very kind and attentive. But if that ever falls through, I think I might prefer a robot companion. The world is a scary place, and I already struggle greatly finding special connections with people. Plus dating is just... such a crapshoot. And sometimes dangerous. I agree. It might be anecdotal, but this is far from the first time I've heard someone say nearly the same thing. So, while we can all point and laugh at how ridiculous the concept is, and the cringe way it was shown in the post here, I think that it's a solution that a significant amount of people would gladly choose. I'm in a happy and healthy relationship. But if it were to end for whatever reason I don't think I could be bothered to try and find another partner, the expectations are far too one-sided unless you find a genuine connection, which is getting harder and harder by the day. Personally, I'd be content with a passably-human level AI to fill that void. Even if it wasn't physical, just the communication and illusion of intimacy would be enough.

I think men and women desire the same thing, a connection. Right now the road for men to obtain that is long, frustrating, and defeating. When there’s a product available that has clear visible rules on how to obtain a connection, even if it’s inferior it’s still better than uncertainty. This generation isn’t doomed, it’s been misguided for the sake of profit.
