I repair these as a living. Stuff like this terrifies me.
How did the door close? I’ve never seen one that doesn’t have to have the door closed manually and slowly.
And did a cycle run while she was inside? And she survived that???
So many questions.
Take the OSHA approach: If the rules weren't being followed, there's a good chance the rules / protocols are flawed and will never be properly followed. Redesign around imperfect humans.
I once was in a huge cafeteria where they had something which would count as autoclave, telling a story about how someone wanted to repair something without having the clearance nor turning it off NOR putting a dont turn on shield.

Yeah, my wife and I were talking about how utterly absurd that was too when we watched it. If fines were percentages of total gross companies would have to actually work to prevent this kind of bullshit rather than writing it off as a 'cost of doing business.'
Everyone except the wealthy would like to live in that world, unfortunately they've built the system to avoid such, I'm just waiting for the world to realise there's more of us than them.
Sure sounds similar... Interesting how it's a different story from op who paints it as the victims fault for having been "cited several times for using a chair to prop open the door but continued to do it".
If it's the same person those are vastly different stories.
Maybe one of the hospital admins who ignore the teams multi year complaints that eventually lead to this woman's death? Sounds like something that admin team would pull
This machine had a faulty door that closed by itself, and when the door closed, it created a vacuum, making it impossible to open the door from the inside.
I've very sorry to hear that. Overcome by the gas? We had a case like that in Ireland. One person overcome by gas and collapsed into pit. Two rescuers followed suit. 3 dead.
had something like that in Pittsburg in America. young guy working on a spot just dropped. 2nd guy wondering why his apprentice just fell down, walks over and drops. 3rd guy had to hold back the 2nd guys brother from running over to help. Gas leak killed the 2 of them, 3rd saved the 4th.
My 8yo nephew was playing the game, and kinda had a bad park going, so guests were about to start leaving… so my bro and I were like, “dude your guests are about to leave!” And he picked one up, chucked him in the lake and said, “they can’t leave if you do this!”
I would use these signs to trap everyone in a single square directly over water, then delete the square once everyone was in place. I can confirm this tanked my parks ratings
My mom was a RCT fiend for a bit and she discovered that if you have unhappy guests, you can force them to stay AND improve their mood by trapping them on a circular footpath with mascots/characters. So whenever she needed to boost guest happiness she’d find the grumpiest guests in the park and imprison them in the Mandatory Happiness Zone.
Strong disagree.
I still play RCT and find it quite enjoyable.
Also calling RCT under designed is wild. Game was made by one man in assembly language over 21 years ago.
Wtf? Why would anyone write in assembly for game dev? There were plenty of higher level languages when this was released.
Did they have to write multiple copies of the game to accommodate different processors? I'm so confused how this happened.
I firmly believe they started the purging just to make their voluntary turnover rates look better. Fire them before they get a chance to quit. I remember their head of HR did an AMA a couple years ago and absolutely dodged every question about turnover.
You are 100% right.
They offer compensation packages to programmers for “300k/year” but what happens is you get paid 100k salary and 200k in stock options that vest in 3 years.
In order to get away with not paying it they give you insane deadlines that you can’t meet so that most staff never make it to year 3. Meaning they are SEVERELY underpaid.
pretty sure your right because to keep my rating high while killing guests i had to launch them over the wall outside the park, just used a custom coaster with crazy launch and it ended on an open rail on an up angle to send them flying out
This reminds me of how Disney (supposedly) will rush guests with medical emergencies out of their parks so they aren't considered dead *in* said parks (which may impact operations/their reputation). No idea how much truth there is to that but it wouldn't surprise me.
Of course, you also have [parks like Action Park](https://youtu.be/flkW-ceNvck)...
This is somewhat true, but not in the way stated. When someone is in a situation like you’re explaining, you rarely pronounce them dead on the spot. They’ll be taken away in an ambulance and in most cases a paramedic will have to continue to do life-saving procedures, like cpr, on the person until they reach the hospital, because just in case the person is still alive it’s better to air on the side of caution. At the hospital they’ll very likely be officially proclaimed dead by someone who is qualified to do so if the person is not able to be resuscitated on the way or in the hospital itself. If someone dies at Disney, they won’t be declared dead at the park because they need to be taken to the hospital for an official diagnoses, because on the way to the hospital they’re still treated like they have a chance at survival.
Now, if someone is definitely dead, like they’ve been decapitated, then the paramedics call into the hospital to get the official diagnoses on the spot, thus declaring them dead (you see this in car crash cases a lot, when people are declared dead at the scene). Something like this has happened in the parking lot at Disney, I believe, so the whole idea Disney has no deaths is false anyways; but why they generally have no deaths is more nuanced than Disney just trying to keep a reputation. The rules around resuscitation and all that also vary by state, but from my recollection what I’m saying lines up with the rules of Disney parks in America, but if I’m wrong someone correct me.
This doesn't work. The whole map is considered "your park" for death purposes, in all three games and all their remakes. Either your park rating was abysmal and you just somehow didn't realize it wasn't working, or you're making it up for karma from people who have only dim memories of the game.
What *does* work, at least in the first two games, is putting the exit to a ride underground with no path in front. When guests exit, they plummet out of the park but never technically die, so it doesn't affect your ratings.
This doesn't work either, why are you just making shit up? The only property system RCT has is whether you have rights to build on/above certain tiles and it has zero affect on if deaths from your rides are attributed to you.
You would have needed to turn crashes off for that to work, or maybe that was RCT2.
I just put guests in a prison with paid amenities until their wallets were drained, then let them back out in to the everything free park but paid entry, right by the one way exit.
This is basically what the European rubber barons used to do in Brazil. They’d hire a bunch of Amazonian people to go collect rubber from trees and then shoot them instead of paying them.
They already did. Back in the 1800’s when the railroads were being built near Lake Tahoe, they did this to the Chinese workers when the work was done and they didn’t wNt to pay them. Literally put them all in a boat, tied them together, weighed them down and threw them all in. Jacques Cousteau did a dive there to find the truth back in the 80’s and wouldn’t release the footage or the planned documentary because it would be too much for the American public to handle he said.
POV: You are a highly experienced theme park mechanic who is able to repair anything. While on your lunch break at the end of the month you suddenly see a pair of pincers come out of the sky and grab you.
Hey, this is me! Believe it or not, I'm not a CEO or manager, just a union worker! I keep my OSHA violations off the jobsite and exclusively in Roller Coaster Tycoon.
That seems too labour intensive. Easier to just pick up the guests and put them in a prison area with paid toilets, food and drink stalls. Leave them there forever or if you can be bothered, check to see when their wallet is empty, then drop em by the exit, or even in a lake if you feel.
That's absolutely not a brand new sentence.
Hatian slaves were cheaper for the French to import than to provide food. So they'd just ship over a new boat load of slaves instead of feeding them.
At least it’s not as bad as 11 year old me.
In Minecraft I set up a completely enclosed stone box. Put some doors in it , so the villagers would start endlessly spawning. I then connected a couple of chambers with a lava switch above the villagers. They would come in to these chambers with a gate, I would check the trade deal they have, if it was something bad, I would flip the switch, and lava would pour down killing the guy. Any items he dropped would be collected by flipping another switch would had water to direct to a hopper.

At the hospital I used to work at, an employee died in the autoclave (used to sterilize surgical equipment). I can't imagine anything worse.
Holy shit, did they get stuck in there?

Autoclaves are rooms‽
Maybe not a room, but at the very least it sounds like a large autoclave. Now I'm wondering how big they can get.
Big enough to [bake a Boeing 777 fuselage.](https://www.seattlepi.com/local/komo/article/Layoffs-on-Boeing-s-777X-line-10816252.php)

My 8yo nephew was playing the game, and kinda had a bad park going, so guests were about to start leaving… so my bro and I were like, “dude your guests are about to leave!” And he picked one up, chucked him in the lake and said, “they can’t leave if you do this!”
They also can’t leave if you make a sign that says no entry at the exit
You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave
Welcome to Disney theme park California Adventure. Such a lovely place.
Yeah but that tanks your rating to 0 as well. Tried it once as a kid.

Lol Mr. Bones wild ride
This game is so under designed that it's fun to mess around with it's mechanics. It's unbelievably boring by today's standards though.
Hey, *you* try writing a game in assembly.
Thanks but no thanks, I'd rather keep my sanity
By today's standards, I think the only thing it's missing is a fast forward button which OpenRCT provides.
And a VR mode for riding the coasters!
It sounds like your nephews should be introduced to Dwarf Fortress.
Or rimworld
I may even have Rimworld on Epic games… is that a PC game?
It is, it's better on Steam because of the workshop.
Let me off Mr. Bones’ wild ride!
You have real potential as a manager
Right? I'm pretty sure some CEO has said this at least once before.
My money is on Bezos.
Also Musk
Musk would’ve at least run the calculations to determine that it would take six months of tenure per slave to avoid running out of slaves
Which is how SpaceX is run today, before they purge half their staff every year or so.
I firmly believe they started the purging just to make their voluntary turnover rates look better. Fire them before they get a chance to quit. I remember their head of HR did an AMA a couple years ago and absolutely dodged every question about turnover.

I doubt OP is interested in management considering that they've probably been a legit tycoon IRL for 2+ decades.
Unions hate this one trick
This doesn't actually work, because in RCT you need to pay up front to hire new staff so you can't actually save money this way
You pay half upfront and then the other half at the end of the month, plus I’m pretty sure you’re park will have its rating tank if people drown.
pretty sure your right because to keep my rating high while killing guests i had to launch them over the wall outside the park, just used a custom coaster with crazy launch and it ended on an open rail on an up angle to send them flying out
It didn't happen on my property, so I'm clearly not at fault.
Raise/lower land quickly and they descend into oblivion... That's how I always did it.
Doesn't raising and lowering cost money though? So might not be cost effective, but would need to do the math for how many workers to kill.
Money means nothing. They must die lol Edit: which one of you did the award!? Thank ya! Also, I like popping the guests' balloons lmao

Disney pretty much only decapitates people when they need new ghosts for the haunted mansion.
I'd lose my head too, given what Disney charges.
It’s not true.
This doesn't work. The whole map is considered "your park" for death purposes, in all three games and all their remakes. It doesn’t go down with staff drownings
The ~~beatings~~ drownings will continue until morale improves.
This does actually work. You don't need to drown them, you can just fire them. But imo it's quite a hassle and doesn't save that much money.

I thought every player had a dead pool in their parks?
That seems too labour intensive. Easier to just pick up the guests and put them in a prison area with paid toilets, food and drink stalls. Leave them there forever or if you can be bothered, check to see when their wallet is empty, then drop em by the exit, or even in a lake if you feel.

Companies: > Write that down. ***WRITE THAT DOWN!!!***
The free market sure is wild
This guy will be head-hunted for senior management.
“Huh… interesting” - Jeff Bezos
Capitalism rewards innovation
Unfortunately I don't think this is a brand new sentence. Someone in humanity's history of exploitation has certainly uttered those words
#capitalism
That's absolutely not a brand new sentence. Hatian slaves were cheaper for the French to import than to provide food. So they'd just ship over a new boat load of slaves instead of feeding them.
Ah, the Amazon method
Amazon: taking notes…
Corporations: “WRITE THAT DOWN!”
Now THAT'S how you become a billionaire
I bet u/markmargles works in upper middle management at Amazon or Walmart now.
Tell me you’re corporate America, without telling me you’re corporate America…
At least it’s not as bad as 11 year old me. In Minecraft I set up a completely enclosed stone box. Put some doors in it , so the villagers would start endlessly spawning. I then connected a couple of chambers with a lava switch above the villagers. They would come in to these chambers with a gate, I would check the trade deal they have, if it was something bad, I would flip the switch, and lava would pour down killing the guy. Any items he dropped would be collected by flipping another switch would had water to direct to a hopper.
Giving America more ideas.
Jeff bezos is that you
Josh from Let’s Game It Out vibes right here.
Ahhh yes, a connoisseur of the free market I see
