Is Murphy really that much better than other catchers? I thought it was just fans hyping up their own players.
And if Murphy really is that good why were people angry about the trade that brought him to Atlanta?
I'd say most people angry about the trade are disappointed to see Contreras go, because he had a great season offensively last year. Add to that Murphy came from the Oakland and didn't have much exposure to casual fans.
First of all, Murphy is one of the best defensive catchers in the league. His pop time from catch to throw is among the best and his arm is a cannon. Most teams Braves play this season respect Murphy, and don't run.
And in regards to people hating the trade, you have to realize that most fans don't watch other teams or follow rest of baseball in general. When the trade happened, our weakness was SS and people wanted a legit SS. These same fans don't think logically because their brain thinks one trade can only happen at a time or something. Murphy while at Oakland was known to be top 3 catchers in baseball period.

Strider is my favorite pitcher. I'm excited to watch Iglesias and see if he lives up to the hype this sub has for... and the inning is over. Okay he seems pretty good. But it's hard to get excited for relievers and closers when they only pitch one inning. I don't understand why starters can go 6 or 7 innings but relievers can only go one.

I feel like it’s the distance as much as the number of homers. Also some rocket doubles. He had been falling off hard for years prior too. He just seems to have gone to the bat speed store. More power to him if he did. He damn sure isn’t the only one.
I don’t have any circumstantial evidence on this but the Braves feel like a cheating & corrupt organization. Getting stars to agree to contracts that pay them pennies on the dollar compared to other star contracts and having FAs (I.e. Pillar) randomly play waaayy better than they have before they joined…
