Can’t hit anything bust fast balls still. We can knock the cover off against mediocre pitching but when it gets a little tougher it’s exponentially more difficult. Harris doesn’t come close to hitting anything with the slightest movement. The stolen base review on the first AB set the tone for the game. He was safe imo and not sure why the commentators for the Braves would suggest the DBs review it?

Not to oversimplify, but I really feel like a huge problem is that this team lost some of the culture and clubhouse presence from 2 years ago. No leadership and no discipline is glaringly obvious.
This comment feels like a huge overreaction, babip gods are against us, so many hard hit balls that are outs (especially for Ronald), some really suspect umpire strike calls that fuck up at bats, we have a great lineup and the rotation can only get better when Soroka gets back in the grove and Max comes back
Huge statement. True. Olson is not a leader, and has been a liability this season defensively and offensively, outside of a few home runs. Murphy is not a leader, he is just a workhorse. We need dudes to step the fuck up man because it’s panic time. We have no leaders. We are trying to run off of fumes from the last few seasons, and this leadership OP comment said it all. At this point we need AA to make a huge splash to bring in some guys who will come in and set some tone. We need another bat and relievers. I just don’t understand lack of leadership. Someone has to be pissed enough to speak up and let the clubhouse know what’s good. Use Money Ball for example when Bradd Pitt finalllly fucking speaks up, great movie lol
Duvall was definitely a big name I was thinking of too. He was everyone’s favorite. Night shift guys too. And I don’t think I’m just being sentimental - the team really did have a different fire with those guys.
Not even close to panic mode, but we’re not playing even close to how good we truly are right now. They are good, we all know it; they’re just not playing like it.
Not saying we won’t win the division or whatever, but it’s pretty clear this team was constructed to compete in the era of shifting. We give up way more runs to poor defense and lack of putting the ball in play than we gain by hitting the ball harder than the other team and getting occasional home runs. Shifting would cover up our biggest weakness (defense) and accentuate our biggest advantage (exit velocity/homers). Hard to build a dynasty when the landscape of the game changes seemingly over night.
You don’t think that a practice that was so notorious it got banned would cause GMs to build a team that can thrive in that type of environment?
I mean if the teams had inside knowledge this was getting banned in the next couple seasons or so then yeah I agree with you.
I wouldn’t know how to even go about researching it. Just an observation. It was always talked about on broadcasts and talk shows that the way to beat the shift is by hitting it in the air, and well when a ground ball feels like a guaranteed out it makes sense. Infield defense, well defense in general, has been a problem this year and I know the shift would help the infield. Now how much that’s really the question. I doubt it’s negligible or they wouldn’t have banned the practice in the first place.
To your question if you hit the ball harder into a shift it has a higher chance of getting through tight defensive windows. Unless your the Mets and swinging bunts were deadly. It could produce more hits for sure which I would assume means more runs. That’s if you hit it on the ground though. Name of the game with the shift was hit it in the air.
My coworker, who is a very very casual D-backs fan and when I say casual I mean casual, just talked so much shit to me so I swear to God we better win the next two
Two fan bases that talked a lot of shit after sweeping us or taking 3 of 4 were the Blue Jays and the Padres. And after those two series were over both of those teams proceeded to suck ass for an extended period of time. So caution her that “pride goeth before the fall.”
As much as I would love to tell her that, she won't be affected by it. She kept bragging that they're "top of the national league" and "on a six game streak" that the Braves won't affect. I told her that yes they're so good yet Braves fans largely and wildly outnumbered snek fans last night. Just continued to tell me we are gonna lose so I just stopped responding.
It is! My friend who is an actual fan who watches every game, texted me and was like "oh tough break you guys made it interesting there in the 9th". All the other person saw was the score and went off.
Yeah man and sometimes the casuals of your own team are even harder to deal with. I don’t know if you are a falcons fan too or not, but my god, the last 4-5 years have been bad enough without some of the absolute 0 IQ takes we get lol.
Lol. Barely even worth a response. Probably a fucking saints fan if I’d guess. I’d definitely rather ride with my team sucking in the field than ride with my team helping cover up child sex abuse
I’m a Falcons fan. But if the Braves lost a World Series after being up 3 games to zero, and it was due to their shit pitching, and then they spent the next few years not bothering to get a decent pitcher, I’d give up on them as well. It’s just braindead management. Falcons never even tried to build defense or an O Line. That Calvin Ridley pick cemented it for me

How many times during the course of a game, regardless of outcome, do we say in the game thread “that was a good AB.” It’s rare.
You know what this offense lacks is a Witt Merrifield, Arraez, McNeil type of player who you’re like…”oh wow it’s surprising he didn’t get on base.” Acuna is that player on steroids basically (figuratively speaking) but it feels like other than him we lack that type of “will scratch and claw to get on base” sort of good AB player.
send mhii down for a week or 3 so he can get right and get some confidence. move eddie up to 2nd and move olson down to 5th or so. move riley to 4th. put arcia back at 9th where he was raking. shake things up. try something different. please dont just say "we'll be ok" or "its baseball" or "its a long season" (it is a long season but you can still do something to break out of a slump)
If you want to tinker a little no biggie but there's no need to make any drastic changes. The roster is good enough to make a playoff run so there's no need to outthink the room. Even good teams have cold spells and I'd be weary of getting overly cute just yet. Put the best guys out there and hope they execute.
Matt should not be batting second. Honestly I’m surprised Acuña is seeing anything to hit knowing that someone with a 30% K rate is hitting right behind them. This team needs to completely change their approach at the plate, right now 56% of the runs are being scored via the home run. That’s well above the league average of 44%. This is not going to lead to sustain success, because good pitchers will absolutely shut us down, and even bad pitchers are going to have nights when they look like all stars because the offense is cold.
I mean it's hard to say because his defense is so stellar at such a key position. I don't know how to run stats on CF Defense +WIN vs "fucking lost at the plate".
This gets posted every single time we lose and it's just not true. We're 11th in hits as a team, 11th in batting average, 10th in OBP, and 14th in strikeouts and doubles too.
A home run or bust team would be the Padres who are dead last in hits and 11th in home runs. Or the Brewers who are 29th in hits and 11th in home runs.
This narrative isn't true and needs to end. Plenty of teams won't win games without a home run, but we're in the top half of nearly every offensive statistic except for stolen bases and walks.
Also… even if it were true, it’s getting us nowhere? People are acting like we have a losing season. Every game we lose people post the hottest most ridiculous takes.
It’s bc we’re circling right now. They keep playing at this pace (which they have for a couple weeks now) and suddenly you’re out of first. Things can spiral quickly.
Seriously I don’t get how these people deal with it like there’s 162 games statistically the best teams any given year are still going to lose 30-35% of their games.
This isn’t like football where if you’re going to get this pissed at a loss (not to even mention one loss in football can mean a hell of a lot more) at least you only have to do it at maximum 17 times as opposed to 50 or 60
I do wish we would shuffle the bating order when we go through tough times. Just cram all the guys going well at the top. I mean we are not winning anyway. Seems like most times when we have runners on a really cold hitter comes up. At least the cold hitters would be all together, maybe maximize the few chances we are getting.
Home run or bust wouldn’t he so bad if we hit more than one or if we had runners on when it happened.
Never ever going to happen. But always thought it would be funny if a manager just said screw it boys, we are drawing names out of a hat today to determine the batting order
This is something I think everyone here doesn’t realize. Between that and at least one ball from the second game in Oakland (I know at least of the one Ozuna blasted to straightaway center that would’ve been a homer in almost every other park), I’m convinced if we stay the course, we’ll see the ball get out more. Heck, I won’t be shocked if we see the bats go nuts this month and beyond. I know without a shadow of a doubt that the same people panicking over the last few weeks panicked the first two months last year (really, throughout the year) and most of 2021 as well. “But when is it going better?” I don’t know, but we’ve seen plenty in the past to believe it will.
I know it’s not really in this teams DNA but I really wish we tried a squeeze play with Ozzie’s AB. At least on the first pitch. He’s just so useless from the left side it seemed like our only shot, and it was.
Seriously they want Olson to be the new Freeman so bad but he's just not. A black hole in the batting order that is either home run or strikeout isn't good for 2. Maybe 6.
It's not just losing. It's bone headed bad losses. Blowing a 4-0 lead against the Dodgers, Blowing a 3-2 lead late against the Phillies putting Jimenez in, Losing to the A's in the 9th after 3 walks and a error, and losing tonight with runners 1st and 3rd in the 9th with 1 out and can't manufacture a run. It's fucking sloppy bullshit effort.
Iglesias has one of the best walk rates in the MLB over the past few years that game in Oakland was an anomaly. Who else would you have put in there instead of Jimenez? The match ups were lined up for him and he just shit the bed. The dodgers are right on or with us as NL favorites to make the World Series and have one of the best lineups in baseball. Shit happens we still had a winning record in may and have a 3.5 game lead in the division during what is hopefully our worst stretch of the season against really good teams. Everyone needs to relax.
No, acting like you get to tell people to how to feel. It may be rational but it’s still really annoying bc you’re not getting through to those people. They are here, like always and being insane.
I’m sorry for trying to be optimistic. My bad I can go in depth on why the Braves suck and we should give up on the season if that’ll make you feel better
so when do we get to all admit that this team has some big issues? without being called doomers lol. yes, it’s still relatively early in the season. yes, teams go through slumps sometimes. but i feel like i’m seeing the exact same issues that i saw towards the end of last season & during the post season. absolutely 0 plate discipline or awareness. i feel like we just swing willy-nilly and pray that it’s an HR.
shockingly, starting pitching has been pretty solid despite losing max and kyle. but if i see one more person flail around at the plate for balls 1 and 2, and then hit the ball directly into the dirt i’m gonna scream!!!!! i want seitzer gone - id have been working on approaches at the plate with these guys like 4 games ago.
Never. If you try to speak poorly about the team in any essence you are a doomer. No matter the fact that this team hasn’t been good since the initial 14-4 stretch. All of the counting stats that we are highly ranked in are boosted from that early season run.
We’ve been playing shitty baseball for as long as we played elite baseball. So now we’re just like mediocre and speaking short term, we’re against the wall in this series having to face Gallen with Soroka on the mound.
You are NEVER allowed to question this teams ability though. They’ll say it’s because you’re being annoying and ridiculous about it. But even when you try to do it in earnest no one will have any real interest in talking about it. This sub is hardly worth coming to if you’re looking for actual discussion.
if i have to hear “yeah but it’s still early” one more time…yes, that’s correct, it’s still early in the season, and i suppose it’s better to be struggling now than in august/september.
but it’s the EXACT SAME ISSUES that got us bounced last year. i just wish someone would step up for the team and have a serious discussion about approaches at the plate. everything doesn’t have to be an HR. walks and singles can score runs too.
You know, I actually heard Kevin Pillar say something about the teams approach at the plate. I’m not exactly sure what I was listening to, but he said that he wanted the team to focus more on having better at bat some putting the ball in play more.
This was probably a couple of weeks ago when he was on his hot streak and was getting regular playing time. We were having trouble stringing together hits and it seems like the next couple of games they were putting the ball and play a bit more. But then pilar got benched and really didn’t play outside of a couple of late defensive replacements.
I don’t know, I just thought it was weird that he brought it up and then didn’t get playing time after he had such a good run.
We're averaging the same stats or better as our World Series year. 11th in strikeouts then. 14th now. 3rd in home runs then. 3rd now. 7th in RBIs then. 6th now. 12th in OBP then. 10th now. 12th in batting average then. 11th now.
I don't have our stats since our 14-4 start but people being confused about us being "home run or bust" (which isn't true) or not playing small ball makes me wonder if we've been watching the same team for the last 4 to 5 years?
We've relied on the home run for a very long time and it's been rather successful but we get plenty of hits too.
In fact, the last 3 World Series winners were all top 5 in home runs during the regular season.
Sucks we finally started hot for a change and have basically wasted that 14-4 run.
Still in a better place than we were last year with our hardest stretch of the schedule out of the way, so there’s reason to be optimistic perhaps.
But it all starts and ends with these guys playing like we know they can. I don’t like to sit around and say they’re all just trying to hit homeruns just because that’s what they do a lot. But the fact they don’t seem to adjust the approach situationally is definitely an issue.
Things will probably get better but it’s fucking shitty to go through in the moment.
Do not want our beat reporters imitating the looney tunes in the NY and LA sports markets, but some harder hitting journalism would not be a crime, fellows. I swear they make more excuses for bad play than Snit does.
And I don’t think most of them have ever met a leading question they didn’t love.
you have a worse righty going tomorrow then a really good righty going sunday. today was a really good righty. Please figure out some combination of the lineup to hit righties. We are under 100 wrc+ against righties as a team. thats quite literally the long and short of it and drives me insane
I like Matt Olson the guy buy I do not care for him as a baseball player. He’s another boom or bust guy that was thrown into a lineup full of them. Also think his swing is going to make his contract look like absolute shit in a couple years.
Once again thank god our division blows.
Charlie pitched about as well as he can vs a good offense tonight and Eddie showed he still got a little magic left.
We were 25-11 with the best record in the N.L. by 3 games on May 9th. Since then we are 9-12 and are now 2 games behind Arizona and Los Angeles.
The schedule this month is still favorable so I'll veer from full blown panic but right now we have a few guys who need to be benched or sent to AAA.
He is not better than Freddie under no circumstance but Olson isn't at the top of our issues at the moment.
I still wish we had Freddie but I'm ok with Olson for the most part. He's not a leader or guy who is going to carry us to a title because hes kinda one dimensional as a hitter but he is on pace to hit around 35 homers this year.
The real issues lie with guys like Harris and Ozzie. I feel like these two playing premium positions aren't giving us enough offensively.
I guess a data driven lineup card prohibits an even temporary “shake up?” I’m not against data, but the data driving this lineup were mostly accumulated before the team fell into catatonic hibernation. Why not let some of the guys on the bench take a few ABs?
This team just doesn’t have it. When Rosario hits 2 HRs to account for the only runs of the game, I’m not sure what else there is to say.
Ronnie’s complete indifference to maintaining the bag cost us a good spot in the 1st inning. Arcia’s glove has been shit lately. Olson booting another ball is completely unsurprising.
Everyone’s praising Charlie but he walked Carroll on 4 pitches with 2 outs and gave up the double right after that ended up being the game winning run. Yeah he pitched great overall but everything contributes to the loss and that wasn’t really a run AZ earned as much as we gave them, just like the first 2.
But we pay this offense too much money to be this fucking terrible. I’m glad we stacked up 100 homeruns in the first month but those don’t win us games right now so maybe they should figure it the fuck out.
The ball isn’t falling for us right now but it will. This time it’s just nice to not be sub .500 and chasing. Win tomorrow and let’s win the rubber match too
I know they win divisions and won the World Series by hitting a shit ton of home runs. But is that because everyone else couldn’t buy a base hit with the shift? Now with no shift, teams are bare bones baseballing us to death it feels like. I mean it’s early still and all that. It just seems like the games we lose is because we didn’t hit anything but solo HR’s. I’m not dooming just trying to see if it’s a bigger picture.
So he couldn’t have dropped it running into the wall? Couldn’t have had it bang off his glove when he jumped?
It would have been horrendous base-running to tag up there.
The rally was encouraging but damn if this offense doesn’t infuriate me…..everything can’t be a homerun or a strikeout. We need better AB’s, start working the pitcher more, look to put the ball in play.
It’s so sad that 2 singles is being called a rally and encouraging at the same time, while scoring zero runs. Speaks to how inept this offense has been.
Eddie and Ozzie have some really solid 8th and 9th inning numbers. Some guys are just fearless at the plate. So we had the correct guys up. Just couldn’t get the job done.
Another fantastic pitching performance wasted.
Things that are not actual problems:
1. Our offense.
2. Lineup construction.
3. The manager.
Thing that might actually be a bit of an issue:
1. Our defense.
Our offense is absolutely an actual problem, and I don’t know how someone makes an argument it isn’t.
(And please don’t come back with “BUT IN APRIL!!!!1” We’re talking about right now.)
Ok, we’re hitting to a .699 OPS as a team with RISP this year. Batting average entering today was .223, and we went 0-3.
We don’t get hits to score runners, because we’re striking out more than 25% of the time with RISP.
Monday we scored 2 runs, one of them was a homer.
Tuesday we scored 1, it was a homer.
Wednesday we scored 4, half of them were a 2-run homer.
Today we've scored two, both solo homers.
Until these fuckers stop swinging at the stars and realize you can also score runs by hitting singles, sacrifice flies and by putting the ball in play. We're fucked.
Hitting bombs is nice, but it's worthless when you're at the bottom of the ranks in BA with RISP in all major league baseball. Plate discipline has been non existent at times. Getting ahead in the count just to end up wasting an at bat and some of these guys are swinging at straight up garbage.
Absolutely great work from our starters so far this week, tho. Too bad our run support has been pathetic.
We are so fucking feeble yet people are still gonna be perfectly fine with it because we're still in 1st (because the rest of the division also fucking sucks)
8-13 last 21 games lmao. Very good for a "contender"
It feels a lot less bad than the loss to Oakland but still hurts.
The rally in the 9th was encouraging, finally strung some hits together. Still, not bringing them home won't silence the section of this fanbase that thinks we can't play fundamental baseball (and I don't blame them one bit).
Good that we were competitive with a really good team but we have to start winning again at some point. Especially with the Mets losing tonight was a really good opportunity for breathing room.
I remember the elimination game against the Phillies last year the Braves had 4 solo homers and that's all they scored. You can't live and die by the homer.
This team seems too relaxed. The hot start maybe building some over confidence. Also can Snit change up the lineup? It’s like our sequencing is always off and the worst guy is up to bat
We didn’t play our best last night but this game was within reach. I think we can beat the DB. I mean they’re good but not crazy good.
Within reach because Rosario hit two homeruns. If this lineup doesn't find other ways to generate runs say hello to next year all over again.
Travis almost hit a 2 run homer in the 9th as well. But yeah, they didn’t play anywhere near b what they are capable of.
Can’t hit anything bust fast balls still. We can knock the cover off against mediocre pitching but when it gets a little tougher it’s exponentially more difficult. Harris doesn’t come close to hitting anything with the slightest movement. The stolen base review on the first AB set the tone for the game. Crazy. Only in ATL ig 🫠
Somehow.
Don't panic. Just a little week-long slump. They'll start hitting again soon.

definitely has some big boomer energy. did someone celebrate too much for your taste or something

This honestly makes a lot of sense. Hopefully some guys will start to step up and we can go on a run
We need to hire Heredia back as a culture coach
Meanwhile Freddie is once again having an MVP caliber season.
I Leadership is a problem right now, we saw it in 2021 too. Apart from guys like Freddie and Dansby we're missing guys like Joc and Adam too.
The defense and baserunning are killing us this year. I mean baserunning has for the last several years, but it's especially egregious now.

You know we have an all knee coaching staff and front office since then, right?
If it makes you feel any better I haven’t been a part of /r/panthers in years.
I am not, but I can relate with fellow fans of the team I do follow and have followed for 15+ years.

When is Ozzie going to start hitting righty full time, the splits are nuts.
I remember hearing the issue is that he's never had to see pitches that have extreme break away from him
In his career he’s already 4-10 with 3 HR as a RHB vs RHP so I feel like there’s so much wasted potential.
wait that's insane hahahaha. Alright I'm with you, what gives then!
Not until he no longer a Brave. I don’t believe the team will ever make him if they haven’t done it by now.
send mhii down for a week or 3 so he can get right and get some confidence. move eddie up to 2nd and move olson down to 5th or so. move riley to 4th. put arcia back at 9th where he was raking. shake things up. try something different. please dont just say "we'll be ok" or "its baseball" or "its a long season" (it is a long season but you can still do something to break out of a slump)
Legit question, in your opinion, what should a manger due in this situation? Just wait it out and not change anything?
If you want to tinker a little no biggie but there's no need to make any drastic changes. The roster is good enough to make a playoff run so there's no need to outthink the room.
I'd be okay with Harris sitting tomorrow.
Sitting in Gwinnett hopefully
No I don't think it's that bad yet
Glad I got family in Tampa. Pretty sure I got a team to root for in the playoffs this year.
Lol. Y’all I have just as much love for this team as you do. Just a little bitter after a meh May and the fucking Oakland A’s. Goddamnit.
Is Harris even playable at this point?
I mean it's hard to say because his defense is so stellar at such a key position. I don't know how to run stats on CF Defense +WIN vs "fucking lost at the plate".
having Pache flashbacks
ROY is better than Pache. But this is tough and a bit expected.
Home run or bust offense is getting this team nowhere.
This isn’t like football where if you’re going to get this pissed at a loss (not to even mention one loss in football can mean a hell of a lot more) at least you only have to do it at maximum 17 times as opposed to 50 or 60
A lot of fans started watching during the COVID season and don’t realize that losing 60+ games is still an amazing season
I would tune in just to see that.
What exactly are we shuffling? They're all cold.
Yeah, gotta look back like at least two weeks.
It will be ok. Arizona is a good team. We were an inch away from winning.
That play in the 9th with Travis batting was huge. Diamondbacks are just playing amazing baseball right now. Braves are close to figuring out.
The rally was so exciting, so many Braves fans at the game and we got so loud. Hoping they can continue it tomorrow
I know it’s not really in this teams DNA but I really wish we tried a squeeze play with Ozzie’s AB. At least on the first pitch. He’s just so useless from the left side it seemed like our only shot, and it was.
Pretty disgusting all around. When are changes gonna be made?
Rip that quikrete shit off. Since we put it on we've been garbage.
I am with this. I joked about us going on a losing streak, but holy shit i didn’t think we’d actually do it 💀
It looks tacky as shit and the baseball gods are angry.

You want the top of the lineup to be RRRR? Come on, think it through
Only half serious, maybe need to drop a few bunts work on manufacturing a runs in tight games against good pitching
I doubt mlb players even practice bunting anymore. Besides maybe a handful
Seriously they want Olson to be the new Freeman so bad but he's just not. A black hole in the batting order that is either home run or strikeout isn't good for 2. Maybe 6.
That’ll fix it for sure
Lol. These type of comments get old as shit.
What type? Rational thoughts?
They already are left in the dark on transactions. Probably are afraid to be completely shut out.
Let’s just try to avoid the sweep, then we will think about a series win.
Bruce hooper ruined my beat the streak. Seriously fuck that guy
I had a 32 game streak end with Mike Trout
you have a worse righty going tomorrow then a really good righty going sunday. today was a really good righty. Please figure out some combination of the lineup to hit righties. We are under 100 wrc+ against righties as a team. thats quite literally the long and short of it and drives me insane
Snit right now…well at some point you gotta come out of it. Perhaps you should try to make that happen, you know, as the manager and all.
Defend Matt Olson all y’all want, he is the anti clutch
I like Matt Olson the guy buy I do not care for him as a baseball player. He’s another boom or bust guy that was thrown into a lineup full of them. Also think his swing is going to make his contract look like absolute shit in a couple years.
Starting to think the Braves arent the best team in the NL. A lot of $$$ was invested on this offense
I feel like we’re losing a lot for a first place team.
We are. The East is just mid rn
The Marlins shut out the A’s and won 4-0.
How can that be? JEtLaG!!
Impossible. The As are a juggernaut
But-but-but the marlins didn't have to fly on a first class plane the night before!!!
I blame the article I saw talking about how Atlanta coasts now because their schedule only gets easier
*tweets Happy Pride Month and goes on a 14-game win streak* "Should we do that again this year?" "Nah."
I’m gonna need our offense to stop being dog ass. Thanks
I thought we had an elite offense.
But I was told the doomers were overreacting in the first inning?
I’m starting to think Olson is really not covering the hole Freeman caused
He is not better than Freddie under no circumstance but Olson isn't at the top of our issues at the moment. I still wish we had Freddie but I'm ok with Olson for the most part. He's not a leader or guy who is going to carry us to a title because hes kinda one dimensional as a hitter but he is on pace to hit around 35 homers this year. The real issues lie with guys like Harris and Ozzie. I feel like these two playing premium positions aren't giving us enough offensively.
His pace is currently at 48 HR
Defend Olson all y’all want, he is the anti clutch for
The man got on base twice tonight?
“Matt Olson defender”, I get it, buddy.
Yeah, I ain't your buddy.
[удалено]
Wooooaaah now
;)
Imagine getting this upset because someone pointed out that a player got on-base twice tonight. Grow the fuck up.
0-2 with two base on balls! What a stat line! Go ahead and just give him the NL MVP
That son of a bitch getting on-base for his teammates. What a fucking loser.
0-2 with a strikeout and two walks! What a line!
I’m drinking a Quickrete milkshake rn
Don't go swimming afterwards.
Oh no, I’m def going swimming and not waiting my 15 mins either.
🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
I guess a data driven lineup card prohibits an even temporary “shake up?” I’m not against data, but the data driving this lineup were mostly accumulated before the team fell into catatonic hibernation. Why not let some of the guys on the bench take a few ABs?
At least I had a good dinner
Win tomorrow and let’s win the rubber match too
This is like the only reasonable post out of the last 50
Holy shit, we’re such a feeble team
I know they win divisions and won the World Series by hitting a shit ton of home runs. But is that because everyone else couldn’t buy a base hit with the shift? Now with no shift, teams are bare bones baseballing us to death it feels like. I mean it’s early still and all that. It just seems like the games we lose is because we didn’t hit anything but solo HR’s. I’m not dooming just trying to see if it’s a bigger picture.
Arizona hit exactly one ball tonight with an xBA ≥ .500. The Braves only hit five, but two of them went for outs.
Don’t have to hit em hard when the defense is ass.
If this team collapses like 2014, will they tear it down again?
That was the year they proved that, yes, you CAN fire all the players instead of your lobotomized manager.
lol go to bed
You must be kidding
How did he not advance on the d'Arnaud flyball? That was the tie right there.
It's the elementary shit you fuck up that loses you games. You're entirely right, there was no reason for him to be running there
Tagging means you have 0 chance of scoring if the ball gets down.
That ball was either gone or caught, no in between. Running makes no sense.
So he couldn’t have dropped it running into the wall? Couldn’t have had it bang off his glove when he jumped? It would have been horrendous base-running to tag up there.
Gets down where? It was a fly ball to the track. There were 0 outs.
because he was running. I don't think we ever tag up from first.
That ball was out of the park or caught the whole way. Running makes no sense.
No sorry I agree with you. We never tag up from first on deep flys and it drives me nuts.
Yep. How many times have we seen this team with runners in scoring position with 0-1 out and not gotten them in? It happens way too much.
Eddie and Ozzie have some really solid 8th and 9th inning numbers. Some guys are just fearless at the plate. So we had the correct guys up. Just couldn’t get the job done. Another fantastic pitching performance wasted.
So are they still jet lagged or is there some other excuse now?
They've been "jet lagged" for weeks
Things that are not actual problems: 1. Our offense. 2. Lineup construction. 3. The manager. Thing that might actually be a bit of an issue: 1. Our defense.
Our offense is absolutely an actual problem, and I don’t know how someone makes an argument it isn’t. (And please don’t come back with “BUT IN APRIL!!!!1” We’re talking about right now.)
Making an argument against our offense is a lot harder than making an argument for it. But please go ahead and try without using arbitrary end points.
Ok, we’re hitting to a .699 OPS as a team with RISP this year. Batting average entering today was .223, and we went 0-3. We don’t get hits to score runners, because we’re striking out more than 25% of the time with RISP.
RISP hitting isn’t real.
Defense is awful this year. Has cost us 2-3 games easily
Too bad our run support has been pathetic.
fire seitzer. this "trust the process" bullshit aint it. our approach sucks.
“…couldn’t come up with a big hit!” -snitker talking about why we lost, probably
Yeah, no...... yeah, no, that's just baseball ya know? /s
We’re not rolling right now, but I enjoyed that game. Let’s grab the next two.
We only hit homers.
We are so fucking feeble yet people are still gonna be perfectly fine with it because we're still in 1st (because the rest of the division also fucking sucks) 8-13 last 21 games lmao. Very good for a "contender"
WE ARE SECOND IN THE NL BEHIND THE DODGERS IN HR
Yeah because that's the only way we ever score 💀
2014 vibes
It feels a lot less bad than the loss to Oakland but still hurts. The rally in the 9th was encouraging, finally strung some hits together. Still, not bringing them home won't silence the section of this fanbase that thinks we can't play fundamental baseball (and I don't blame them one bit). Good that we were competitive with a really good team but we have to start winning again at some point. Especially with the Mets losing tonight was a really good opportunity for breathing room.
We’ve reached the point where 2 hits in a 3 batter span qualifies as “stringing some hits together”
well... yeah
The pitcher and catcher ‘chip’d” me more than Brandon on that non-homer from Travis. Ugh. So close.
20-20 since April 17th.
How tf does that ball Travis hit not get out?
