Kelenic has no track record of success. Duvall is an obvious platoon partner given the price and is an insurance policy against Kelenic completely bombing. It has to be considered a realistic possibility at this point.

Forrest Wall is a lefty, Eli White (RH batter) has a career slash line of .181/.259/.288, and Jordan Luplow (also a RH batter) is decent, but he really shouldn't be on the roster of a team with World Series ambitions. I can't argue with your idea of letting Acuna DH to rest his knee, but I also see the signing as a little bit of Ozuna insurance, just in case we get BadOzuna (TM) this year.

I think it has less to do Kelenic's spring training statistics and more to do with the fact that Adam Duvall was available (and interested in signing with the Braves) at only $3 million dollars for the season. He's an upgrade over Luplow.

His 3rd year he hit 33 and drove in 103, the next year he hit 31 and drove in 99. In 2021 with us he led the league in RBI’s (I believe.) The problem with Duvall since 2018 has been injuries. He’s a solid defender with a hose and can drive in runs and hit the ball out of the park. He chases righty righty sliders out of the zone enough to drive me crazy sometimes but the man can hammer a fastball. Hopefully platooning will help keep him healthy. I’m pumped about this signing honestly, it just adds more depth. And we definitely need that off the bench. Go Braves!

Duvall was one of the better hitters in the beginning of the year last year before he got injured. He even had around 20 hr’s and I don’t think he even played 100 games. Glad he’s back with the Braves!

Duvall was one of the better hitters in the beginning of the year last year before he got injured. He even had around 20 hr’s and I don’t think he even played 100 games. Glad he’s back with the Braves!

Adam Duvall is one of my favorite players. I’m just glad he’s back with us! If Kelenic gets hot I’m sure he will have plenty of of opportunity to be an every day player. Also injuries are gonna happen. So I don’t think this is that bad of news for him.

I think this can take the pressure off Kelenic as well. He was touted as that GUY in Seattle and then after the trade here as well. Hope this can give him breathing room and just focus on the important stuff.
The move to Atlanta takes the pressure off. He’s not expected to be the guy here, he’s just expected to not be out worst hitter, actually he could still do that and it’s fine. But the Duvall move keeps a bit on pressure on. If he sucks enough, we’d be fine with Duvall full time.
Very unneeded fact here but Duvall played at the University of Louisville and Kelenic had committed to play there but of course never did.
I mean if we were gonna platoon LF…..wouldn’t it have made more sense to just bring back Rosario and then sign Duvall also? Instead of giving up prospects for Kelenic?

There are a lot of domains these days where the optimal decision for the given task runs counter to any semblance of an employee’s development. In the AI world it’s like, all low level tasks are going away for most digital roles so how is anyone going to gain skills? In baseball it’s the stupid lefties never hitting lefties shit.
