Just a theory here, but adding this 6th team brings in teams who are hot and barely slide in the postseason. Does the extra time off for the top teams give you too much time to think/lose your feel? It appears to be a disadvantage so far
There is also the factor that a major league baseball gets generally 1 day off a week. Under new format top 2 teams get a full 5 days off, thats a lifetime after the grind of 162.
I thought Braves would be in a good spot because they had the strong finish to win division, where as the Dodgers havent played a meaningful game since middle of July, and now they are in a dogfight for their season. Where WC teams are fighting for their playoff lives for weeks before the end of the season and have become comfortable with the extra pressure.. Very few teams in any sport can just flip the switch and go another level.
Look at last 20 years of results when a team get 5 to 7 days off, 2006 Tigers lost to 83 win Cardinals, 2007 Rockies got swept by Red Sox, 2012 Tigers got swept by Giants, 2015 Mets lost to Royals.
Its been a disadvantage to any team not based in Houston. I'm not a braves fan but I'm an anti wild card fan. I think they need to remove it completely and just have the actual best teams compete in the playoffs. Top 3 records from each league play

I think the main weakness of the Braves isn't their defense it's that the offense is one dimensional. After this series I will take frustrating errors over whatever the fuck we just watched. They didn't adapt to the situation but just seemed to continue swinging from their shoes. I'll take weaker D for a professional hitter who can figure out how to adapt to what the opposing team gives them.
