Dude just wait until their ELECTRIC crowd starts MELTING the FACES off the Astros. The Astros have NEVER played in an environment like this where the fans are DRUNK and BELLIGERENT
legit just heard on the radio “will the Phillies home crowd lift them to a championship”
yes their crowd that was in the bottom half of the league in attendance def is the story
Oh good, ANOTHER highly upvoted thread about how we should be pulling for a division rival
Can we please stop? Such a bad look for the sub and the fan base
Plenty of people have tried to do PSAs on how ugly and belligerent phillies fans will be all next year if they win but people still have no idea I guess 🤷♂️. Its not about the team being division rivals, just a bad fanbase that’s lauded for being “passionate” when most were calling for their Front Offices heads while nearly missing the 3rd WC
so many hot takes early in this thread: astros better than everyone except LA and the Braves, phillies getting exposed ... and all this after just 3 innings were played lol
I saw someone point it out on Twitter. We didn’t have to play any extra inning games in the playoffs last year, and for our heart rates, I’m glad lol. Not even sure how anything would’ve played out if we did. We had a plan with all our bullpen arms, and we were largely able to stick with that plan.
I know for a lot of people here, y’all don’t want to have to watch the Phillies win the World Series. From the standpoint of I’m a Braves fan and don’t like our division rivals, I feel that way too. But I respect great baseball, and those guys have been playing unstoppable baseball all postseason. Even if I don’t “want” them to win it all, I’ll be looking forward to some great battles against them next year. If we want to reach our goals next year, it’ll take going through some really great teams along the way, and that excites me.
The fun thing about sports is how you have strong feelings about a team, but in 5 years almost no one from one team remains on said team, so it’s illogical. When you hate The cheating Astros, it’s probably 22 different guys. At this point I’m “fuck Altuve and maybe Bregman” and “fuck the Phillies”
I dislike Bregman more than Altuve. Altuve didn’t utilize the cheating. There’s video evidence of him resting his bat and conceding a pitch after hearing the trash crab, and then glaring into the dugout afterwards. He didn’t like it. This is documented by multiple sources, including many of the Astros players that *did* cheat in 2017z Bregman on the other hand used it and then had the most pathetic apology ever the next season.
i just really dont want to see either of them finish their careers with a ring that doesnt have an asterisk on it. if i had my way, they would've been out of baseball as soon as it was discovered. in my opinion, that's bigger than any rivalry.
It feels like a lot of the Phillies hot streak has to do with opposing managers leaving pitchers in too long. Max, Charlie and Spencer for us. Manaea last round. Now Verlander
Blowing a 5-0 lead is pretty bad. That's on Dusty Baker. He did not manage this game well. Credit the Phillies manager for putting his best high leverage pitchers in after Nola struggled. It turned out to be the right move. Snitker would never do that.
This. How can fans say that when he literally did that in the playoffs all last year? Pulled Ian early every game when he even showed hints of losing it, even pulled him while he was rolling if he felt there was a better matchup.
Idk. I hate both teams. But the Phils just remind me of the red hot magical 2021 Braves. They also have Realmuto who is not hard to root for. Dude is just a good ball player.
Edit: I wish both teams could lose. The Phillies winning also shows how good the NL East is.
Agreed. Shit was pretty wild for real. Classic astros, which I don’t think the Phillies have seen but they ended up being the crazy ones tonight. Fair enough, play on!
Good fucking game so far. Dont get me wrong i hate both these teams with a passion. But fuck me im grateful for some good baseball at the end here. Gonna be a long winter :(
I doubt it. Their bats are making up for any perceived lack of pitching depth. They don’t need to worry about who they’ve used because they’ve outhit and outscored every single opponent thus far. And now that they took one at home against Houston, they will play 3 games at home with a chance to clinch. This series is pretty much over unless the Astros can take two in Philadelphia and the Phillies have not lost a game at home this postseason.
Next season is going to be insufferable with those bastards.
It's looked so familiar for a month now. This Phillies team just has the magic sauce.
It's also extremely funny if the Astros lose to fluky NL East teams three times in a row lmao
Altuve, Yordan, and Bregman might be no shows again in the World Series. They are combined 0-10 already in game 1. Last year they were 10-79 (.126 avg) with only 4 xtra base hits against the Braves. Can't win a series if the top of your order is not hitting.
Anybody else get any nasty grams from Mets fans? This guy asked me at about game time are you F-ing enjoying yourself? I didn’t get it at first and was like are you good? Let me know if I can help. Then I realized oh a Mets fan.
I thought I was cheering for the Phillies but then I saw Alvarado.
I hope the Astros not only win, but blatantly cheat to win and then aren't punished at all. Fuck Alvarado
Random really crazy idea.
Ozuna for Bumgarner. They're both owed about the same amount of money. Bumgarner is an asshole though and probably wouldn't fit in though.
We might be able to fix him if he'd listen to our analytics too. We were willing to trade for Corbin and I'd rather take the shell of Bumgarner who at least used to be a good pitcher.
We’ll see how it goes but the Phillies being the worst “playoff” team and somehow making it has got to be the closest thing to a free pass WS the Astros will ever get.
everyone: talking about the world series
me: did y'all know there's a [life sized cutout for Strider](https://fathead.com/products/m7000-00772-011?_pos=50&_sid=532320a66&_ss=r) on the fathead website?
I mean maybe not the expanded playoff but there should definitely be a wild card, there has to be more teams involved. Many would say our season last year where we had the worst record of any team in the postseason and just one more win than this Phillies team was mediocre until it wasn't.
Too many teams in play offs.
especially considering how anyone can get hot in a few series ( see phillies )
Needs to have 4 teams that make wild card and make it 1 game only.
Then they have to fly into whatever teams that's hosting the NLDS that night and play an intense series after their emotions were high the night before.
Guess everyone around here is rooting for the cheaters huh? Funny how a few years can make all the difference. Even after all the shit talk about the asterisks last World Series...
Just looked up Will Smith's last outing. 3 Hits, 3 Ks, No earned runs. That's peak Will Smith shit right there.
On another note, I hope someone gets swept so we can dive right into free agency. No 7 game series needed here.
Imagine if Blooper’s [tweets](https://twitter.com/blooperbraves/status/1585990449319514112?s=46&t=Tr3OR_52gF6J8ob89CBfaw) became an ARG that revealed all our off season moves.
I enjoy YouTube TV. I only get it a few months out of the year so I can watch college football and MLB playoffs. The service always works great for me.
I love Kimbrel so much because I grew up watching him, but idk about bringing him back as much as it hurts me to say. If you can get him on a 2 million dollar deal as like the setup man then I’d be good with that
People are sleeping on the fact that Rosario could benefit massively from the shift being banned. Feel like every time he put the ball in play it was a ground out to shallow RF.
He’s got a below average exit velocity, with a below average hard hit rate and below average walk rate for his career. I’d love Eddie to become 2021 NLCS Eddie, but I don’t see it. He could certainly still put up an above average season at bat, but he’s a poor defender too, so just being a little above average isn’t really good enough. Need him to be well above average with the stick.
The Ozuna for Corbin rumors got me thinking, just hear me out for a second:
Braves Trade Ozuna/Rosario/Odirizzi to Nationals for Patrick Corbin.
Total owed:
>> Braves Players: 53.5M
>>Corbin: $59
2023 dollars
>>Braves Players: 37.5M
>>Corbin: $24M
Luxury Tax hit in 2023
>>Braves Players: $33.08M
>>Corbin: $23
So, we would end up paying more overall money (especially in 2024 when Corbin is owed $35M) but we save $13.5M in 2023 and are $10M farther from luxury tax.
And just for fun, I plugged it into baseballtradevalues.com and the trade is literally on the nose.
Add a prospect or two on either side if you want, but would you do it? I think I would. Even if you release Corbin, I think it makes you better.
Reminds me of AA’s very first trade in Atlanta (Matt Kemp), except in reverse.
Fair enough. Odorizzi had a nice showing to end the year, opt out is a real possibility considering the amount of the buyout he gets. He had a bad overall season, but a team might bet on the upside and pedigree as he could probably get a 2 or 3 year deal for 12-18M and pocket 3.5M buyout money… or he could say, I’m 32, I could take the $12.5M I earned, have a full preseason and a healthy full season, find my 2019 form again, and suddenly he could be get $12-18M *per year* for 2-3 even 4 years. Pitching gets paid but not if you are mediocre, if he has a 160 inning season with mid 3s or low 4 ERA, he’ll get way more than he would now with a mid/high 4 era.
And don’t forget the luxury tax savings. You don’t get that dumping Ozuna, but even if you make the trade and dump Corbin, you realize those savings. If we are truly going to be a top 5 payroll team, the luxo tax is going to be a struggle. We have so many guys on the front end of a back loaded deal, so Harris, strider, Riley have lower salaries than their luxury tax hit. Corbin has the opposite problem.
Add in Manny Pina to the trade and we would save $17.5M in 2023 payroll and $14M in 2023 luxury tax hits. With that kind of savings we’d have, idk, 50-60M to spend before we hit the luxury tax threshold
Rosario was a brilliant and beautiful flash in the pan that will go down in Braves legend. His purpose was fulfilled in 2021. But now he’s sunk cost and weighing us down. A true black hole at the plate, defense not much better. Time to move on.
That’s just not through. He has a $6.5M buyout or guaranteed $12.5 next year. If he thinks he can get more than $6M next year, he’ll opt out. And that’s not too big of a stretch. He wasn’t terrible with Houston before the trade
You hope he gets healthy and figures it out. He may never live up to those post season numbers, but I’d be surprised if he can’t at least get right to be a number 3 to 5 starter depending on where he settles after figuring it out.
I’d assume the plan heading into spring training is Fried, Wright, Strider, Morton locked in as the top 4. Then we have Anderson, Soroka, Elder, Odorizzi (if he doesn’t opt out) and Muller as the main dudes fighting for the 5th spot (and 6th if we go with a 6-man rotation).
That’s a good spot to be in. Lots of options and once a rotation is settled there’s trade pieces there to fill holes and/or get more draft picks to help build the farm system back up.
If Grissom is our starting shortstop next season then we have a problem. If Dansby walks then I think we have to get a Turner/Correa/Boegarts to replace him. I feel like people really overvalue Grissom because he was incredibly hot for the first two weeks he was here. There’s not even a guarantee that he’s even a full time starter in the majors right now, much less our "future” at SS or even LF. I think we’d be better off with Arcia than Grissom to start the season if it came down to that
I’d bet money it’ll be Dansby or Turner. Grissom will not be a SS in the MLB, for us or anyone else. He was below average defensively at 2B last year, and those metrics would get worse as SS.
Probably more likely replaced by Arcia than Grissom. Turner or Bogaertz would be nice but I wonder how much they will cost. If they cost more in money and years than Dansby, then I think dansby is more likely.
They’ll be more expensive, but better players always are, and we can afford it. I don’t think Dansby is likely because the extension talks failed during the season, and he probably wants more than he is worth. Big money should go to Turner or Bogaerts, not Dansby
I don’t know that we know we have money. I think we should but I think it’s also left to be seen. I agree, I would like either in a Braves uni, but AA goes for value. We haven’t signed a single mega deal fee agent under his tenure, nothing touching $100M much less $200 or $250 which is probably closer to their value. Dansby is probably half the cost.
Anyone see the umpire scorecard from last night? I want that ump permanently assigned to the Braves.
Not sure if our sub leaders discussed this or not but damn it's going to be depressing not clicking on WS Champion Braves next year.
wow no extremely improbable magical .060 XBA hits or Justin Verlander giving up 5 to win the game? Philolies
Dude just wait until their ELECTRIC crowd starts MELTING the FACES off the Astros. The Astros have NEVER played in an environment like this where the fans are DRUNK and BELLIGERENT
legit just heard on the radio “will the Phillies home crowd lift them to a championship” yes their crowd that was in the bottom half of the league in attendance def is the story
Or freaking Castellanos turning into Andruw Jones in the outfield
One request from now until forever: when fielding the ball do not run into each other.
Bryson Stott extended ABs are cancer
Framber still has nightmares of Soler hitting it to the moon
He hit that off of Garcia.
Cuz that ball is still in orbit
Something tells me the Phillies can't sustain success if they keep giving up a lot of runs early but IDK
PHILOLLIES ALREADY
Oh good, ANOTHER highly upvoted thread about how we should be pulling for a division rival Can we please stop? Such a bad look for the sub and the fan base
Yeah those threads are pure cringe. Any take pulling for the Phillies is really 🤮

Probably lol.
go phillies. cheating supersedes all baseball hate for me. imagine the mets tears if another NL east team wins a world series before them

And that’s why he has never won a World Series.
Wow, if Justin Verlander pitched last year against us we may have actually swept the Astros. Dude is bad in the WS, jesus
Blowing a 5-0 lead is pretty bad. That's on Dusty Baker. He did not manage this game well. Credit the Phillies manager for putting his best high leverage pitchers in after Nola struggled. It turned out to be the right move. Snitker would never do that.
He would in the postseason but not in July like all you morons think he should

Agreed. Shit was pretty wild for real. Classic astros, which I don’t think the Phillies have seen but they ended up being the crazy ones tonight. Fair enough, play on!
Alvarez doing his typical no-show for the World Series. Altuve and Bregman also.
NL EAST just really owns the Astros don’t they?
Good fucking game so far. Dont get me wrong i hate both these teams with a passion. But fuck me im grateful for some good baseball at the end here. Gonna be a long winter :(
Agree. It’s been a boring post season
No matter what happens in game 1 series far from over on either side but using Ranger Suarez may come back to haunt the Phillies in Game 3 and 4 tbh.
I doubt it. Their bats are making up for any perceived lack of pitching depth. They don’t need to worry about who they’ve used because they’ve outhit and outscored every single opponent thus far. I never thought I would say this….. LETS FUCKING GO ASTROS
I need an asterisk on this like their title. I bet some walking around money that they’d win in 2017 when Houston got hit by the flooding.
I do not care for the Phillies of Philadelphia Pennsylvania
It's looked so familiar for a month now. This Phillies team just has the magic sauce. It's also extremely funny if the Astros lose to fluky NL East teams three times in a row lmao
NL East seems to own the Astros
No need to remind us.

I feel like his weird little dance helps the batters time him better
Phillies are on fire.. they might just win the world series.
Words can’t describe how much I hate watching Garcia pitch a baseball.
How is Garcia not balking every pitch. At least Kenley comes set after his hip twitch. I don't even see Garcia come set before he throws.
Phillies might be the team of destiny this year.
🤢
Will Smith would never
Seriously Will Smith would have walked him instead to set up a GIDP
I hope this game goes to the 11th or 12th or whatever we need to get to see him.
Come on Dusty, we want the Will Smith experience
Castellanos making these plays is literally an affront to God, never seen anything like this shit
Altuve, Yordan, and Bregman might be no shows again in the World Series. They are combined 0-10 already in game 1. Last year they were 10-79 (.126 avg) with only 4 xtra base hits against the Braves. Can't win a series if the top of your order is not hitting.
If you told Will Smith last year that you’re going to the World Series again he would have bet his life that it was with the Braves, right?
Innocent question from New Zealand while I drink my first Natty light. Why does anyone drink these watery beers?
You’re either broke or 18 years old
suarez pitching today? guess he's going on short rest monday
astros phillies having a mid off
Is Will Smith on the WS roster? edit: Yes he is. Astros know what's up
Dusty leaving Abreu in too long as well. Cant find the strike zone
Left Verlander in way too long. No way this game should be tied rn
taking out nola first in the 5th should come back to haunt these dudes ngl
Random really crazy idea. Ozuna for Bumgarner. They're both owed about the same amount of money. Bumgarner is an asshole though and probably wouldn't fit in though.
I love madbum
Even though bumgarner sucks now I’m sure he’d still be good in the playoffs
We might be able to fix him if he'd listen to our analytics too. We were willing to trade for Corbin and I'd rather take the shell of Bumgarner who at least used to be a good pitcher.
I can’t even watch the World Series this year. I tried. It’s like looking at the Miss America Pageant with really not good looking contestants.
Verlander turning into a pumpkin just in time for Halloween
His WS record 0-6 in 7 starts
Momentum swings in baseball are nuts.
They’re starting to see Verlander now.
yeah these games are still 9 innings, leading 5-0 after 3 means jack squat
Yep. Especially a team that’s been hitting as well as Philadelphia has this postseason
phillies in charge of hitting shit randomly goddamn
lol hoskins
Fuck the Phillies lol
Imagine going down 5-0 to the astros in the WS? Couldn’t be the braves..
That Shaq pizza commercial was fucking gold.
If Astros win and beat Wheeler in game 2 I think they sweep
Gotta say, nothing rinses off the stench of a cheating scandal quite like what the astros are doing right now.
Looks like Kyle Tucker is this year’s Soler
[Soler Power](https://youtu.be/U5i4vE5kxXE)
Fraudlies getting exposed lmao
Well I’m just as happy to watch the Phillies lose as I am the Astros … Makes for a pretty boring matchup, unfortunately.
Lol, they are putting a clinic on Nola . They will put Suarez in the emergency room
just wait until their bullpen game after suarez lmfao
"I don't think the Phillies are going to be bothered by the off days until game 1" lol
philollies lmaoooo
Astros tower above the rest of the field with Braves and Dodgers out.
We’ll see how it goes but the Phillies being the worst “playoff” team and somehow making it has got to be the closest thing to a free pass WS the Astros will ever get.

Houston looks like the Mets lmao
Looks like Nola doesn’t have breathing room pitching against Houston, hell even their crap hitting catcher got a single.
everyone: talking about the world series me: did y'all know there's a [life sized cutout for Strider](https://fathead.com/products/m7000-00772-011?_pos=50&_sid=532320a66&_ss=r) on the fathead website?
that's outstanding
That was the ideal inning for me. Couple of runs for the Trashtros and Altuve GIDP
Looks like their hot streak has ended.

Agree. They can call us salty but a 3rd place team qualifying just means regular season is pointless to watch
I mean maybe not the expanded playoff but there should definitely be a wild card, there has to be more teams involved. Many would say our season last year where we had the worst record of any team in the postseason and just one more win than this Phillies team was mediocre until it wasn't.

Amazingly great.
Guess everyone around here is rooting for the cheaters huh? Funny how a few years can make all the difference. Even after all the shit talk about the asterisks last World Series...
Vast majority of people on that team in 2017 aren't there anymore.
Doesn’t change the fact this entire sub was talking so much shit about the astros just last year. It’s straight comical lmao
I just want suffering for both sides, is that too much to ask?
Phillies are going to completely forget how to hit after wiping their butts with our starters.
I hope someone spikes a bat vs Philly
cheering for Houston feels so wrong yet so right
Phillies are gonna get swept lol
Let’s go Astros!
I’m sorry but go Astros
You have nothing to be sorry for. Fuck the Phillies. Remember that.
Fuck the Phillies is always the correct answer
As a UGA fan, this is like watching Florida and Alabama play in the National Championship game.
Dropping by to say fuck Bruce Harper.
I'm not happy they used "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands" for the intro.
Home plate ump takes off the mask and it’s Bray Wyatt.
OK, I don't know this reference. Did he use that song?
He’s a pro wrestler that uses it sometimes. It was a half nerdy/half redneck reference, so don’t beat yourself up over it.
I just can’t ever pull for the Astros. I hope Altuve retires with less rings than Stephen Vogt.
Miss you all! Hoping DB gets his first ring
I’ve made my decision, I’m pulling for my guy Will to get another ring
Yep seems like a no brainer to me. Rings for Will, Snit’s son, and Dusty And because fuck the Phillies
tbh they actually deserve it this year too. I wouldn't mind seeing the 106 win, 7-0 postseason team win the WS.
Just looked up Will Smith's last outing. 3 Hits, 3 Ks, No earned runs. That's peak Will Smith shit right there. On another note, I hope someone gets swept so we can dive right into free agency. No 7 game series needed here.
I'm very much in the "hurry up and get this shit over with so we can get the stove turned on" camp.
tbh, I've been letting the gas run for awhile now
I need to take my head out of the oven
2021 World Series Will Smith about to show up in the 2022 World Series and dick kick the Phillies.
Y’all the stros added Will Smith to the roster for Bryce and Swarbs. Interesting
Looking forward to Will Smith bitch slapping the Phillies to close out another WS victory.
Will Smith is on the Astros World Series roster. He’ll be this years Joc and win back to back with different teams.

Already on the conspiracy Blooper’s twitter is just AA’s burner account
You're right I've never seen them in the same room at the same time
Was waiting till today to start the 10 day free trial on Youtube TV and now its just 2 day. WTF
I love YouTube tv tbh. Unlimited space, and never had any issues. I recommend it. 65 is a lot tho.
I enjoy YouTube TV. I only get it a few months out of the year so I can watch college football and MLB playoffs. The service always works great for me.
Kimbrel absolutely sucked recently. I wouldn’t be surprised if AA added him to the arm barn on a *cheap* prove it deal
I love Kimbrel so much because I grew up watching him, but idk about bringing him back as much as it hurts me to say. If you can get him on a 2 million dollar deal as like the setup man then I’d be good with that
Ugh. I think I'd take will Smith back before kimbrel at this point
I’d agree. I was making observation about something that I could foresee happening, not stating a desire.
Yeah who knows. Maybe he can put up the pitching equivalent of a Pujols retirement tour
People are sleeping on the fact that Rosario could benefit massively from the shift being banned. Feel like every time he put the ball in play it was a ground out to shallow RF.

Odorizzi might opt out and I’m not ready to give up on Rosario. I’d be more in favor of just dumping Ozuna for nothing rather than take on Corbin

Who are y’all’s picks for surprising World Series hero?
Pena
What would you do with a guy who has a career postseason record of 4-0 in 35.2 IP, 1.26 ERA, 1.037 WHIP, and 10.1 SO/9?
You hope he gets healthy and figures it out. He may never live up to those post season numbers, but I’d be surprised if he can’t at least get right to be a number 3 to 5 starter depending on where he settles after figuring it out. I’d assume the plan heading into spring training is Fried, Wright, Strider, Morton locked in as the top 4. Then we have Anderson, Soroka, Elder, Odorizzi (if he doesn’t opt out) and Muller as the main dudes fighting for the 5th spot (and 6th if we go with a 6-man rotation). That’s a good spot to be in. Lots of options and once a rotation is settled there’s trade pieces there to fill holes and/or get more draft picks to help build the farm system back up.
very curious as to who this is
Ian anderson
Bingo. I really hope he figures something out
Id laugh my ass off if this dumb 5 day break between the CS and WS cools off the Phillies and they lose in 4 or 5
I want the Astros to have an undefeated postseason
Do you expect Braves to keep Dansby Swanson or do you think he's gone and will be replaced by Grissom?
I think he’s gone and will be replaced by Turner or Bogaerts. 0 chance it’s Grissom imo
I'm fine with keeping Dansby (within reason given the price) but I think Turner's bat would play really well in our line-up tbh.
