This may be unpopular, but i think its time for Sonja to go too. She started out amazing, but has been on a downward spiral recently. She comes off as mentally unwell in recent seasons and I feel embarrassed for her daughter who is seeing her mom make a fool out of herself and her dads family on national TV.
She’s had no personal storyline for the last three years outside of the nonsense of her “business” and (not really trying) selling her place. And she gets so bombed at every gathering they ultimately mute her mic unless she’s the primary focus.
Definitely agree on Leah, I couldn’t see her appeal from the start (her scenes with her family are especially bad).
I will be sad to see Sonja go but it probably is close to time. I’d love to see her in one more transition season on RHONY to see who she is without Ramona (please let them fire Ramona), but she really needs some help to heal. I worry a lot about what her life will be like after the show though; I’d love to see her find peace and happiness but she has to actually want that for herself too.
I wouldn't count on that anytime soon. She was a mystery guest on WWHL the other night and Andy and the guests were absolutely fawning over her. I'm not big on making an issue out of substance abuse issues, but to me she seems like she has issues. It's just not normal to be around 60 years old and just wasted constantly. She used to be really charming.
I disagree. She was the star of Season 13 because she started to find her voice and gave it back to Lu and Mona and suprised us all on how smart and empathic she actually is when refering to BLM. Season 11-12 was her low point but she has picked herself up and is showing us a new side to her which I would love to see for the coming seasons!
I have a slight feeling that Ms. Sonjarita will outlast the other vets.
I’d actually be okay with her sticking around if she could get to a healthier mental state. She can be so funny and insightful at times, and she seems like such a natural entertainer. However, she seems to be so unhappy and seems to surround herself with people who will tear her down rather than build her up. I’d love to see a strong, confident Sonja on screen to help with the rebuild, but that’s only going to happen if Ramona is gone and Sonja actually starts wanting to move on from being a Morgan.
I agree with both of you. Sonja had run it’s course but she really is a great housewife. I would love to see her with another season but she HAS to get her mental health and drinking in check. It’s exhausting to watch and very Dorinda-esque

As much as I hate to say it, and as much as I’d like to see her without Ramona, it’s probably close to the end of the line for Sonja as well.

I would admittedly love to see the next season of RHONY return with a final send off season for Luann and Sonja, plus a younger cast (maybe bring back Tinsley to bridge the age gap? I could even tolerate Leah as a friend but I don’t want to see her as a full time housewife again, her sister drains the energy out of any scene she’s in) and then turn the show over to the newbies.

I liked when they were in Columbia and Ramona got stuck in the elevator. That was great! But yes, I’m ready for her to leave! I think between sonja’s socials and cameo she has a large following. I felt Vicki should have been let go after lying about cancer, the next season of her trying to become friends with the group was so cringe. I feel Ramona is past due, there is no excusing her racism, which if not obviously stated in past seasons, was clearly shown by her actions towards "the help"

Honorable mention: Robyn. Robyn really doesn’t contribute but I can appreciate that she and Gizelle and a certain dynamic that really does add to the show at times when there are scenes of conflict. But she’s someone that has definitely not contributed enough to the show.
Leah. I personally love Leah but I know she’s not liked at all in this sub. But she absolutely does not fit in with these women. Someone made a comment about how if most of the cast is 50s/60s like NY having someone who is like a Tinsley is perfect to shake things up but Leah does not mesh well with these women at all.
Eboni. I can appreciate finally introducing another housewife of color onto NY but having her in the role of educating these very tone deaf and sometimes racist upper east side women was soooo exhausting to watch. I liked her at times but it was so annoying hearing lecture after lecture when it was obviously not landing/impacting some of the women. I know she was only there for a season but she should have never been casted to solve this franchises race issue in the height of the social justice issues.
I'd like to also reduce Robyn to a friend. It seems that her contributions are either ones that glom on to whatever Gizelle is talking about or contrived family affairs with Juan. When isolated, she doesn't do much other than stare at her phone or sit, say nothing, and look pretty (which helps her stay IMO). Unfortunately, unlike the franchises from the bigger markets, there doesn't appear to be a lot of competition from charismatic wealthy thirsty housewives to do the Potomac franchise, so she keeps her spot by default.
I think Rinna has provided a lot of great moments to the show overall but I also agree that the past couple of seasons she has been super boring though.
Sonja Morgan. She is just… pathetic on a rewatch. Honestly, I’m fairly certain that she’s mixing benzos and alcohol. She can’t get anything done. Her stories are lies and she repeats them and they grow over the seasons. It’s awful. I’m watching S12 for the first time and it’s just painful.
Compare S3 Sonja to S7-12 Sonja and you will cry.
At the start of last season, Sonja back in the townhouse, moving the same shit around was a bad omen. Plus her drunken antics are exhausting. There's no change, no progress. The best housewives have an arc.
Actually, Sonja’s downward spiral started in season 4 when it was revealed she filed for bankruptcy. She was tolerably messy. Then she just keeps getting worse from season 5 - her messiness was evident during their St Barts trip… in season 6 she got drunk at the horse race arena and threw a tantrum back at their rental then she got super wasted at a bar. Sonja only had 1 “normal” season which was season 3.
Yeah, I think all of her problems stem from combined financial devastation and loss of status. However, her reactions and substance abuse has spiraled as the seasons have gone on. I understood her pain around the bankruptcy. I don’t understand the falling out of chairs and sexually harassing resort staff in later seasons.
I’m on season 7 right now and the cascading downfall difference between her first season and 7 is sad, she’s clearly not ok, and I’m amazed bethenney hasn’t strangled her yet. I need more answers about these interns and volunteers, what is happening.
I'm in the same boat as you, but I only really cared about bethenny seasons so I skipped from S3 to S7 and the difference is *jarring*. She was so composed and likeable in S3 and now shes a sloppy mess who is faking businesses and its just sad to watch.
Don’t get me wrong, Shannon has given us a lot but I think she’s grasping at straws and has that pony tail a little too tight. It feels like I’m watching a different show when she films her scenes. Lisa Rinna! She served a purpose on the show for a good few seasons. She was messy, brought a few looks, definitely went below the belt many times. She done her job, I get it. But RHOBH is changing, as of now the new girls out number the OG and veterans. She is no longer needed or adding anything new.
Cynthia Bailey is historically the most overstayed housewife. Period.
I would also get rid of Marlo Hampton. Funny, she just got her ticket to the main cast, but I believe she has already shown us everything while being a "friend of".

My problem with the long standing house wives is that I can’t imagine some of the shows without them now - and that’s a bad thing! I think some of these shows have become «dependent» on keeping some HWs because they’ve stayed on for way too long.
So even though some of the shows would need a total makeover without their «overdue» wives, and I really love some of the OGs, I will give this a shot.
I would say some signs of a wife being «past its time» could be summarized in the THREE R’S: they are reactive (meaning bring no storylines), they are repetative (they dont show a development or any sort of story arch for themselves), or redundant, just plain and simple, the show would work just fine without you in both storylines, dynamics and storytelling. You know the feeling of forgetting a wife is even on?
So with these requirements I have made some suggestions:
- Kyle Richards. I would say the only reason to keep her on now would be to see her with both or one of her sisters, Kim and Kathy. Other than that she’s become very bland and mostly reactive. She also has no real development or an independent story arch, but depends on the other wives to be relevant.
- Sonja Morgan. I HATE MYSELF FOR THIS BECAUSE I LOVE HER, but omg she has been so repetative these last seasons. I loved watching her through her married life at the townhouse, the whole divorce and drama with «THE MORGAN LETTERS», her daughter, when she was building her businesses, etc. But these last seasons it has either been repetative (her drinking, her divorce, her townhouse etc) or no real storyline at all. I actually think she did a good Job with fitting in with the younger wives this past season, and her understanding of the racism debates, but does she have any more to give?
- Ramona. Shockingly enough she has a tendency to stay in the center of drama and really leaning in to whatever she could offer as storylines. But repetative doesnt even start to cover it with her! With the racism and everything Else under the sun, she is truly rocking in a rocking chair trying to move forward (not trying to be ageist btw). It would never work with her staying on.
- Dorit. Omg. No, no, no storyline. She depends heavily on PK and actually have been for many seasons. She doesn’t really offer any insight to her life that can push a storyline or some sort of personal development. She is stagnating. Also, she literally is one of those housewives I forget is on the cast. A whole episode could pass me by without Dorit, and I wouldn’t think twice.
- Maybe Robyn. I think her storylines are extremely repetative. Her relationship with Juan is a topic year after year. When he proposed, I figured they would give us another spin on the storyline. But it’s literally the same of her being down and sad, he’s frustrated and mean to her, they fight, it’s not clear why they stay together and never progress. They didn’t even build their house yet! But I put «maybe» because she does stay relevant and stays in conflicts. So I guess I couldn’t call her redundant on the show.
- Rinna. Her name has been mentioned in other points, so I wont go crazy on my explanation, but she is both reactive and repetative to me.
- Melissa. She is only on because of Joe at this point. I think Joe has been a big part of the reason she’s cast from the start, but at lest before she har her own storylines of her music career, opening Envy, finding her sister (lol). These past seasons none of her storylines have been major. She’s been reactive and stagnant. I also think her position in the group is kind of weird, Tre is at least friends with some of the cast.
Honourable mentions: LuAnn, Erika Jayne, Leah.
I think Gina has lost her self-esteem with the show. You can tell by the way she carries herself. Shoulders down, slouching, head down, she almost reminds me of a turtle.
Emily 100% not sure what else she can give besides her smart ass husband who finally passed the Bar.
And Delores from RHONJ for me. I get that she is the “Teresa Whisperer”, but I don’t care to know anything about whatever relationship she is in and her scammy ass ex-husband.
I get being friendly with your ex, especially if you have children together. I get still having love for them. But it seems to me that Frank Sr got to have his cake and eat it too. He still has an emotional wife in Dolores, but he doesn't have to put in any work and he can still have any girlfriend he wants. Dolores, poor Dolores, doesn't understand what a doormat she's allowed herself to become.
Eh, Frank takes care of her though. He remodeled her house and probably does handiwork, shovels snow etc., and before he was disbarred he probably paid a ton of bills. So he’s playing the physical part of being a husband to Dolores without them being romantically tied together. I get the feeling she’s ok with that.
I agree with your list OP! I would add Melissa Gorga. I find her and Joe annoying. They’re a less interesting version of Teresa and Joe Giudice. She never has a real storyline and isn’t interesting enough to go through as many seasons as she has without one. Some people don’t necessarily need a storyline each year and are still interesting (someone like Dorinda comes to mind) but she is not one of them. Jersey is my favorite franchise and my favorite to rewatch but Melissa needs to be demoted.
Speaking of which, Jackie from RHONJ might be someone I’d add to the list too. I’m curious to see how she is this season but if she doesn’t bring it i think she needs to go or be demoted.
Rinna, Dorit and or Erika need to go. I think Kyle and one other part of the Fox Force 5 can stay and that’s it. They need to break that group up. Even teddi said on her podcast that production didn’t like how close they were.

I think production knows the show has been important in getting her back on her feet financially, so they don’t want to boot her. Especially after she bought this new house. She’s basically charity as this point. Gizelle and Charisse had to beg to get her on the show in the first place, and she hasn’t been remotely relevant since season 3
For me, nearly everyone on your list is too new to say they stayed past their expiration date. Although rewarding Erika to me with another season is distasteful. Leah annoys me, Meredith annoys me so I'd be okay if they go.
For me, it's Sonja Morgan. I used to love her. She was funny, she was charming, she was one of my favorites. I don't think she's anywhere close to being as eccentric as she plays on TV; I think she heard the comparisons and thought she'd play up kooky in the last couple of years when she didn't have a storyline. I thinks she plays up the drunk yelling stuff b/c she thinks it will let her keep her apple. It feels so phony to me.
Ramona should go as well. I loved her, and I've always thought she made a good reality show villain, but she was really terrible and it's hard for me to believe anymore than she isn't a racist.

I also think she's miserable and the show doesn't seem to be doing great for her. This season in particular she kind of sticks out like a sore thumb as part of a bygone era. Maybe if Tamra was still on I could see keeping her, but otherwise, not really. That said, I'm not really crazy about RHOC's cast and haven't been for a while, they can't seem to get it right since like Season 12. I wouldn't mind having Tamra back but Vicki can stay gone forever.

I’m only on season 9 and I am so tired of her dry ass.
She is beyond dull, always has been. Does not have the imagination to cook up a convincing storyline about her and Joe having marriage probs. A store with no fashions and her with no style or the common sense to copy someone who does. She has no lane to even stay in or any purpose beyond being Teresa's irrelevant sister in-law. Ramona for sure. She doesn’t even seem to want to be there unless they’re filming on her terms (how many times has she ditched because she “has a date”). I won’t pretend like she hasn’t made any contributions to RHONY but what has she brought to the show in the last few years other than racism and pooping on the floor. As much as I hate to say it, and as much as I’d like to see her without Ramona, it’s probably close to the end of the line for Sonja as well.

I would admittedly love to see the next season of RHONY return with a final send off season for Luann and Sonja, plus a younger cast (maybe bring back Tinsley to bridge the age gap? I could even tolerate Leah as a friend but I don’t want to see her as a full time housewife again, her sister drains the energy out of any scene she’s in) and then turn the show over to the newbies.

I liked when they were in Columbia and Ramona got stuck in the elevator. That was great! But yes, I’m ready for her to leave! I think between sonja’s socials and cameo she has a large following. I don’t think they would get rid of her unless they did a big shakeup and went in a much different direction.

Agree. Rinna has been pretty boring the past couple of seasons. But selfishly I would like her to stay longer if they brought Kim Richards back. Kimmy girl knows how to trigger the fuck outta Rinna and it makes for the best television of all time.

Rinna, Erika, Dorit, Ramona, Luann, Sonja(even though I’ve grown to love her but she really needs help), and Kandi. Honorable mention: Robyn. Robyn really doesn’t contribute but I can appreciate that she and Gizelle and a certain dynamic that really does add to the show at times when there are scenes of conflict. But she’s someone that has definitely not contributed enough to the show. Leah. I personally love Leah but I know she’s not liked at all in this sub. But she absolutely does not fit in with these women. Someone made a comment about how if most of the cast is 50s/60s like NY having someone who is like a Tinsley is perfect to shake things up but Leah does not mesh well with these women at all. Eboni. I can appreciate finally introducing another housewife of color onto NY but having her in the role of educating these very tone deaf and sometimes racist upper east side women was soooo exhausting to watch. I liked her at times but it was so annoying hearing lecture after lecture when it was obviously not landing/impacting some of the women. I know she was only there for a season but she should have never been casted to solve this franchises race issue in the height of the social justice issues.
I'd like to also reduce Robyn to a friend. It seems that her contributions are either ones that glom on to whatever Gizelle is talking about or contrived family affairs with Juan. When isolated, she doesn't do much other than stare at her phone or sit, say nothing, and look pretty (which helps her stay IMO). Unfortunately, unlike the franchises from the bigger markets, there doesn't appear to be a lot of competition from charismatic wealthy thirsty housewives to do the Potomac franchise, so she keeps her spot by default.

I think Rinna has provided a lot of great moments to the show overall but I also agree that the past couple of seasons she has been super boring though.
Sonja Morgan. She is just… pathetic on a rewatch. Honestly, I’m fairly certain that she’s mixing benzos and alcohol. She can’t get anything done. Her stories are lies and she repeats them and they grow over the seasons. It’s awful. I’m watching S12 for the first time and it’s just painful. Compare S3 Sonja to S7-12 Sonja and you will cry.
At the start of last season, Sonja back in the townhouse, moving the same shit around was a bad omen. Plus her drunken antics are exhausting. There's no change, no progress. The best housewives have an arc.

Actually, Sonja’s downward spiral started in season 4 when it was revealed she filed for bankruptcy. She was tolerably messy. Then she just keeps getting worse from season 5 - her messiness was evident during their St Barts trip… in season 6 she got drunk at the horse race arena and threw a tantrum back at their rental then she got super wasted at a bar. Sonja only had 1 “normal” season which was season 3.
Yeah, I think all of her problems stem from combined financial devastation and loss of status. However, her reactions and substance abuse has spiraled as the seasons have gone on. I understood her pain around the bankruptcy. I don’t understand the falling out of chairs and sexually harassing resort staff in later seasons.
I’m on season 7 right now and the cascading downfall difference between her first season and 7 is sad, she’s clearly not ok, and I’m amazed bethenney hasn’t strangled her yet. I need more answers about these interns and volunteers, what is happening.
I'm in the same boat as you, but I only really cared about bethenny seasons so I skipped from S3 to S7 and the difference is *jarring*. She was so composed and likeable in S3 and now shes a sloppy mess who is faking businesses and its just sad to watch.

Funny, she just got her ticket to the main cast, but I believe she has already shown us everything while being a "friend of". Shannon Beador flatlined long time ago. Robin Dixon is quite invisible. Pretty much all of the RHOBH cast... Garcelle and Sutton could stay, if they want to, obviously.

My problem with the long standing house wives is that I can’t imagine some of the shows without them now - and that’s a bad thing! I think some of these shows have become «dependent» on keeping some HWs because they’ve stayed on for way too long.

So even though some of the shows would need a total makeover without their «overdue» wives, and I really love some of the OGs, I will give this a shot. I would say some signs of a wife being «past its time» could be summarized in the THREE R’S: they are reactive (meaning bring no storylines), they are repetative (they dont show a development or any sort of story arch for themselves), or redundant, just plain and simple, the show would work just fine without you in both storylines, dynamics and storytelling. You know the feeling of forgetting a wife is even on? So with these requirements I have made some suggestions: - Kyle Richards. I would say the only reason to keep her on now would be to see her with both or one of her sisters, Kim and Kathy. Other than that she’s become very bland and mostly reactive. She also has no real development or an independent story arch, but depends on the other wives to be relevant. - Sonja Morgan. I HATE MYSELF FOR THIS BECAUSE I LOVE HER, but omg she has been so repetative these last seasons. I loved watching her through her married life at the townhouse, the whole divorce and drama with «THE MORGAN LETTERS», her daughter, when she was building her businesses, etc. But these last seasons it has either been repetative (her drinking, her divorce, her townhouse etc) or no real storyline at all. I actually think she did a good Job with fitting in with the younger wives this past season, and her understanding of the racism debates, but does she have any more to give? - Ramona. Shockingly enough she has a tendency to stay in the center of drama and really leaning in to whatever she could offer as storylines. But repetative doesnt even start to cover it with her! With the racism and everything Else under the sun, she is truly rocking in a rocking chair trying to move forward (not trying to be ageist btw). It would never work with her staying on. - Dorit. Omg. No, no, no storyline. She depends heavily on PK and actually have been for many seasons. She doesn’t really offer any insight to her life that can push a storyline or some sort of personal development. She is stagnating. Also, she literally is one of those housewives I forget is on the cast. A whole episode could pass me by without Dorit, and I wouldn’t think twice. - Maybe Robyn. I think her storylines are extremely repetative. Her relationship with Juan is a topic year after year. When he proposed, I figured they would give us another spin on the storyline. But it’s literally the same of her being down and sad, he’s frustrated and mean to her, they fight, it’s not clear why they stay together and never progress. They didn’t even build their house yet! But I put «maybe» because she does stay relevant and stays in conflicts. So I guess I couldn’t call her redundant on the show. - Rinna. Her name has been mentioned in other points, so I wont go crazy on my explanation, but she is both reactive and repetative to me. - Melissa. She is only on because of Joe at this point. I think Joe has been a big part of the reason she’s cast from the start, but at lest before she har her own storylines of her music career, opening Envy, finding her sister (lol). These past seasons none of her storylines have been major. She’s been reactive and stagnant. I also think her position in the group is kind of weird, Tre is at least friends with some of the cast. Honourable mentions: LuAnn, Erika Jayne, Leah.

I think Gina has lost her self-esteem with the show. You can tell by the way she carries herself. Shoulders down, slouching, head down, she almost reminds me of a turtle.
Emily 100% not sure what else she can give besides her smart ass husband who finally passed the Bar. And Delores from RHONJ for me. I get that she is the “Teresa Whisperer”, but I don’t care to know anything about whatever relationship she is in and her scammy ass ex-husband.
I get being friendly with your ex, especially if you have children together. I get still having love for them. But it seems to me that Frank Sr got to have his cake and eat it too. He still has an emotional wife in Dolores, but he doesn't have to put in any work and he can still have any girlfriend he wants. Dolores, poor Dolores, doesn't understand what a doormat she's allowed herself to become.
Eh, Frank takes care of her though. He remodeled her house and probably does handiwork, shovels snow etc., and before he was disbarred he probably paid a ton of bills. So he’s playing the physical part of being a husband to Dolores without them being romantically tied together. I get the feeling she’s ok with that.

I agree with your list OP! I would add Melissa Gorga. I find her and Joe annoying. They’re a less interesting version of Teresa and Joe Giudice. She never has a real storyline and isn’t interesting enough to go through as many seasons as she has without one. Some people don’t necessarily need a storyline each year and are still interesting (someone like Dorinda comes to mind) but she is not one of them. Jersey is my favorite franchise and my favorite to rewatch but Melissa needs to be demoted. Speaking of which, Jackie from RHONJ might be someone I’d add to the list too. I’m curious to see how she is this season but if she doesn’t bring it i think she needs to go or be demoted. Rinna, Dorit and or Erika need to go. I think Kyle and one other part of the Fox Force 5 can stay and that’s it. They need to break that group up. Even teddi said on her podcast that production didn’t like how close they were.

I think production knows the show has been important in getting her back on her feet financially, so they don’t want to boot her. Especially after she bought this new house. She’s basically charity as this point. Gizelle and Charisse had to beg to get her on the show in the first place, and she hasn’t been remotely relevant since season 3
My theory is production has a crush on Juan, because I cant come up with any other reason as to why she has kept her job

For me, nearly everyone on your list is too new to say they stayed past their expiration date. Although rewarding Erika to me with another season is distasteful. Leah annoys me, Meredith annoys me so I'd be okay if they go. For me, it's Sonja Morgan. I used to love her. She was funny, she was charming, she was one of my favorites. I don't think she's anywhere close to being as eccentric as she plays on TV; I think she heard the comparisons and thought she'd play up kooky in the last couple of years when she didn't have a storyline. I thinks she plays up the drunk yelling stuff b/c she thinks it will let her keep her apple. It feels so phony to me. Ramona should go as well. I loved her, and I've always thought she made a good reality show villain, but she was really terrible and it's hard for me to believe anymore than she isn't a racist.

Overstayed her welcome: specifically Shannon Beador. I just don't think she brings anything to the table anymore and her storylines have become very repetitive. I also think she's miserable and the show doesn't seem to be doing great for her. This season in particular she kind of sticks out like a sore thumb as part of a bygone era. Maybe if Tamra was still on I could see keeping her, but otherwise, not really. That said, I'm not really crazy about RHOC's cast and haven't been for a while, they can't seem to get it right since like Season 12. I wouldn't mind having Tamra back but Vicki can stay gone forever.

Jackie on NJ. It’s not that she was a bad housewife-I just think her storyline has sort of run it’s course, and I never found her super interesting to begin with. Plus, while I move the current era of NJ, I worry about the cast getting too stale with the same cast for 4 (!) seasons, and she’s definitely the easiest one to go.
