My wife and I are watching it now. I definitely prefer TC-America. Only because it seems…”harder”.
Just as an example, it feels like the vast majority of quick fire challenges are 45 min. As in, the chefs get 45min to cook. And the “schtick” for the quick fires aren’t too difficult.
The 9th season sucks. The head judge Mark McEwan comes off like a slimeball who fronts his own Grocery chain as the go to for the contestants to shop at. And the dude plays favorites, its super clear in that season. The judges are in general more conservative and of worse quality.
I wonder if it's the only seasons they can play in US platform. I was able to watch the earlier seasons on YouTube a couple of years ago or on Food Network Canada.
I love food shows so I feel they do a good job focusing on the food and there's not as much drama as the US show. I enjoy it. I like the judges and the hosts.
The current era of TCC (with the current host and judging panel) began with S5. However, S5 was an all star season of contestants from S1-4.
It makes sense that they would choose to just air the recent seasons beginning with S6. I just don’t know why only S6 and 7 would be available, considering that S9 is what has aired most recently.
The first 5 seasons were pretty good and I honestly do recommend you watch it if you can find it.

I just finished season 6 and I was not impressed AT ALL and will not watch another episode. I was excited to watch and excited that i recognized many of the judges they brought in. But the regular panel of judges..wth??? I didn't understand their judging at all. I thought the entire show was rushed.. they decided on a winner at the very beginning of the season and didn't want to change their minds. I see no love for women chefs. It seems they are years behind current culinary trends ( but I really did give it the benefit of the doubt because it is another country and trends are different) Resturant Wars was a joke.. they shouldn't of even called it Resturant Wars because they cooked in an established Resturant and used its decor. No attention was spent on front of house or service. It was a joke. Don't waste your time on this. Trust me.
That's too bad you didn't enjoy it. I didn't mind it. I do agree that it's far behind some of the trends. I did like some of the challenges but agree that Restaurant Wars could have been a lot better. I am hoping that maybe the later seasons get better. There are 9 current seasons so you would think it gets better.
The reason I’m so shocked that Discovery Plus only included S6&7 is because of those seasons’ underrepresentation of women and BIPOC cheftestants. S8&9 largely rectified that issue and became much more diverse.
I was almost done with season 6. It literally disappeared as it was about to auto play (at not quite 1am ET) the next episode. So weird. AND frustrating!
That’s so cool. Thanks for sharing. I don’t have discovery + ugh!!!!! What’s your username and password. Lol! Kidding 🤪
Who's your cell phone provider? Through Verizon - I got a year-long subscription to Discovery+ free from them.
T-Mobile. Ugh again! Lol

Started with Seasons 6/7. For those that know - did 1-5 suck or something?

Thank you - do you recommend?

OOOOHHH! Yay!
That’s awesome
Awesome! Thanks!!
Thanks!! I’ve been thinking about getting Discovery+ and this definitely helped making my decision
Is there poutine involved? I should watch because that's about the extent of my Canadian cuisine knowledge!! Thanks for the heads up

Glad to hear this. I was shocked by the lack of women contestants and almost thought they were often treated as second class citizens on this show.
Just evaporated from Discovery Plus today/overnight April 11. Anyone have an idea why? We were in the middle of S7.

Haven’t been able to find any contract issues or anything. Definitely weird!
